The sushi roll had a little bit too much spicy mayo, drizzled on top of the rolls rather than inside of each roll. I also felt that it lacked a good amount of tuna and there was a little bit too much rice. The sashimi was pretty good but again not the best. Didn't taste the freshest but got the job done. I normally don't write reviews but I have to let people know my horrible experience at this restaurant. I'll start by saying that the waitress who might also be the owner came up to my table and was quite rude and short like I was annoying her. I ordered a special roll that was pictured on the menu and when it came out I was shocked at how small it was (not at all like the picture). This was smaller than a regular roll that I have had so many times before. To cap off the visit, I decided not to leave a tip and when she realized this, she told the chef who I believe is her husband and then they both started yelling and raising their voices at me saying that I need to tip them or don't come back to the store ever again. The smoked salmon I thought was too salty, but this is not the only place I'm finding that these days! So many it's in the supply, not the restaurant. Been here before and it's consistently great and the key to this is fresh fish and traffic aka volume to keep stuff from ending up in the case till the next day. Now not sure if the latter is practiced here and sure it is as they would need to be Houdini to guess volume right every day but for me I can tell quickly by texture, taste and smell if I'm eating fresh. Sorry for the lack of pictures as too often I am famished and gobble down the food forgetting to photograph the evidence. On this visit it was a sushi and sashimi platter with a step up from the California roll to a Spicy Salmon and once again top of the line. It's been a while since we last ordered from Osaka. While never top tier it has always been decent and better than most other spots in this general neighborhood. Well, that seems to have changed. We ordered a Sushi Deluxe for two, Chirashi, three Eel Hand Rolls and six pieces of Mackerel Sushi. I kinda got the sense that something was amiss when I was placing the order. I asked for six pieces of Saba Sushi and the girl taking the order had no idea what that was. Rule to self. If an establishment doesn't understand the Japanese or Korean names of the fish it's probably a good idea to order elsewhere. Back to the review. The fish, overall, was completely flavorless, lacked texture and was full of water. I think the fish was improperly thawed. Or, it was thawed, refrozen, and then thawed again. That's a no, no. In addition to lacking flavor and texture it really didn't look appetizing either. The piece sizes were very small. Which is fine given that they were lousy. But if it was good I would have wanted larger pieces. The hand rolls were also very small and not prepared very well at all. Osaka has changed hands several times over the years but the quality and preparation has always been pretty consistent. Unfortunately the current management or ownership has dropped the ball. For what it's worth, I gave two stars because they were polite and the order was well packaged. I doubt that I will return. read more

I started patronizing Osaka close to 20 years ago, long before I lived in Little Falls. The restaurant changed hands a few times after the original Mr. Kim left, however the quality was always consistent and the roll selection varied. Unfortunately the restaurant changed hands again last year and the quality has declined. Our first order with the new owners was surprising - the rolls were smaller and the fish was watery (which usually happens when fish isn't thawed correctly). Knowing how difficult it is to start a new restaurant, we assumed it was growing pains and decided to hold off from ordering for a few months. Unfortunately things haven't improved; the new menu isn't as varied (the whole family was so bummed to see Rock N Roll was no longer available) and the fish still has that watery consistency. The food was excellent and super fresh. It was a great price for the amount of food you got. Incredibly affordable compared to other sushi restaurants. They even gave us a free dessert after we paid our bill and just made us feel very welcome. They were both very attentive, but never over bearing or in your way. I ordered from DoorDash so I can't speak on the service. I ordered 3 different veggie rolls all with soy paper. (I'm a vegetarian and don't like the seaweed flavor). I got the AAC (Avocado, Asparagus, Cucumber) roll, Avocado Cucumber roll and Sweet Potato roll. The AAC and Avo Cucumber were good, nothing special but I enjoyed it. But the sweet potato roll is amazing. Other places fry the sweet potato which can sometimes make it dry but this place didn't fry it and it's so good! With COVID / CDC guidelines, this place is one of the safest places to order out. After a doctor's visit in the area, we decided to order from here (couldn't wait to get back to Hoboken). We were so surprised! Called ahead, ordered, picked up the food when they said that it was going to be ready. The restaurant doesn't have that fishy odor (a must when it comes to sushi places). They have a protective plastic sheet around their sushi bar. Once we got it home, the sushi was well packed and tasted so good! It's not the best sushi you've ever had but it's consistently good. the fish is fresh and the rolls are quite diverse - from the traditionally expected to the more inventive. they can be a little heavy-handed with the sauces but accommodating to requests for less sauce or sauce on the side. if you ask them to make a new roll for you with some suggestions, they do that, too (at least for me - but i eat there at least 1x a week so maybe not for everyone?). love ordering delivery b/c it's quick. don't go w/more than 4 ppl. the green tea ice cream here is AMAZING (always forget to ask what brand it is). read more

My boyfriend and I decided to check out this place on a Sunday evening . Yelp says they close at 9 but they actually close at 8:30p. We arrived at 8:20p but they still served us . We ordered the pork dumplings which were made fresh and were delicious . I ordered the volcano dragon roll and my boyfriend got the black dragon roll . I've driven past Osaka Sushi hundreds of times and each time I promised myself to try it sometime soon, but I never did get there... until today. The restaurant isn't particularly close to where I live, and even though it's been open for years, it never seemed to accumulate much in the way of Yelp reviews or pictures, so I suppose it just never became a priority dining destination. Today however, it was lunch time and I just happened to be once again driving by. Not being one to argue with fate, I turned into their parking lot, and I'm glad I did. The restaurant is not very large and I noticed that most of the people who were there, were waiting for their food. Usually I interpret that to mean slow service, but at a sushi bar it can also mean a very exacting sushi chef (yes, I know the word is Itamae). Happily in this case it was the latter. I ordered the lunch special that seems to have become ubiquitous at so many Japanese restaurants. Three rolls for $10.95. As expected, the choices are limited to the simpler rolls, but that was fine with me, since that's what I prefer. I ordered a tuna roll, a yellowtail roll and and eel/avocado roll. There was no salad or miso soup included, so the price, which is still a good value, was nothing extraordinary. The quality however, of the fish and the seaweed (ok, nori) made me forget any slight difference in cost that may exist. Both the tuna and the yellowtail were bursting with the distinctive flavor you would expect from the fish at a more expensive sushi bar, and the rolls were made with whole slices of fish, not the chopped remnants that many other restaurants use. The eel was also very good. It was served still warm and a bit crisp from being freshly toasted. I look forward to returning to try their nigiri sushi, and I will definitely be back for their excellent lunch special. read more
