Papaya salad - 1/5 - it lacked so much flavor, it was almost like it didn't have enough fish sauce. Beef drunken noodles - 3/5 - this was ok, kinda bland in flavor, noodles were a bit over cooked. Chicken Pad Thai - 4/5 - this had a little flavor to it, pretty decent out of all the things we ordered. Chicken red curry - 1/5 - this was a little disappointing since I was craving for some curry. The flavor was ok, they didn't put enough sauce in the container, I barely had enough for my rice. It looks very cheap and cheesy to put it in a shallow container. Thai fried rice - 3/5 - this was decent, very basic. Mixed vegetables - 4/5 - u really can't mess up stir fried vegetables, can u? Plain vanilla, something like you get out of a Chinese dish. Ordered takeout from this location on a weekend evening when we were craving Thai food - unfortunately feeling a little disappointed! I think the cost is a bit high for the portion sizes. Same here for lunch on a Saturday driving through. We had a table of 5 and had to wait for a little. The workers were all nice. The menu had a variety of usual Thai food like curries, rice and noodle dishes. I ordered a rice dish with chicken. The prices were great. The portions were very fair. My dish was ~$13. The flavors were good. I wish there were a few more veggies. The inside was fine. Clean, nothing super cute. But I really liked the different colored water glasses! After hearing soooo many positive reviews about this Thai restaurant on a local social media group page, we decided to give it a try on a Wednesday for lunch. Upon checking their website, we learned they opened at 11:30AM and got there at 11:47AM and noticed the "open" side wasn't lit. The door was unlocked and when we opened it, the lady inside said they weren't open yet. We pointed to the "hours" sign on the door that said they opened at 11:30 and she said we could come in and sit in a booth. From there on, service was decent, but far from good or great! Another concern was had was noticing their menu had a Japanese section. Sorry, but if it's TRULY a good Thai joint, they aren't offering Chinese, Japanese, Sushi, etc, unless they have all those chefs in the back and this little "mom & pop" place clearly didn't. We ordered Larb Gai to start... It came out pretty quickly and it was loaded with a darker sauce than we were used to and the chicken was in bigger chunks than the typical minced, steamed chicken that come on Larb Gai... it also had carrots on it, something I've never seen before and can't say if that's authentic or not. Upon tasting it, the chicken was stir fried and was the same chicken they would use in lettuce wraps - definitely NOT the chicken that supposed to be in this dish. There was little spice to is at all, whereas most Larb Gai is pretty spicy and has two types of onions in it. It did have an abundance of cilantro, which was nice as this was the only flavor that we recognized to be in this dish. For lunch, we went wish three entrées: *Pad Prik King with chicken - The sauce was nearly spot on what it should be, slightly thinned out and the entire dish had a lot of sauce to it, which was fine, considering the flavor was pretty good. The chicken on the other hand looked like white meat, but had the "gamey" flavor like boiled dark meat - wasn't very tasty. The green beans in it were decent. *Pad Ka Pow with chicken - This was completely flavorless and the basil wasn't fresh!! There was so much sauce, it was nearly soupy and the sauce was thin and flavorless. We were definitely able to taste the odd flavor of the chicken in this dish - not very appealing. *Thai Fried Rice with beef - This was excellent! Exactly what we like and tasted like it should... WHEW! Overall, we really can't understand how this particular place is so popular... While we were there, many others walked in and the first two parties who walked in also arrived before noon, right after us and had to hear the lecture from the lady about them not being opened yet - poor! Out of all the Thai joints between Woodbridge and Fredericksburg, there are several that are MUCH better than what we experienced here today... We'd go to one of those and definitely wouldn't return here. read more

Valentine's dinner and Tarntip Thai proved a perfectly romantic place to spend it. We started with a refreshing goblet of mango juice and fried spring rolls. This used to be my go to for Thai. Several years back I ordered pad Thai with extra sauce for dinner and the drenched the entire meal. I couldn't eat it. When I called to let them know the issue, both people, woman and young sounding man I spoke to were rude, dismissive, and told me I should have ordered the entree without modifying it. So because I asked for a little extra sauce to moisten the noodles, they decided to smoother it. After this, I hadn't been back nor ordered anything else from them. This was before the pandemic. Fast forward to last Friday. I ordered green curry, larb gai, and chicken satay. My friend ate the satay and said it was decent, my green curry was a watered down mess of slightly flavored soupy broth, and the larb gai had some powdery substance throughout, flavors were way off, and was overly spicy for medium. Initially, I thought the weird powder was an excessive amount onion or garlic powder, but it didn't have a flavor. Let's just call it powdered yuck, made the entire dish in-palatable. The green curry wasn't reminiscent of anything I'd tasted before because it was watered down with a sparse amount of overcooked vegetables. So grateful I ordered through DoorDash because I received a refund for the two horrible dishes. Another eat here at your own risk, I did warn you. I think it might be time for Tarntip, and our other Thai restaurants in and around town, to retire. They were good prior to Covid. Based on what I've tasted and the customer service, the passion and pride they used to have in making their food has long since sailed away. Now, I drive out to Culpeper to Pinto Thai, whenever I have a taste for Thai. (Beware: don't order the pineapple cashew chicken. I'm still traumatized by the weird flavor; extremely sweet and weird piña colada like, artificial, gross flavor.) The woman was very cold and unwelcoming. We had a party of three and she tossed a menu to our guest instead of going to her end of the table. She wasn't very professional. Upon taking our orders, she grabbed the menus from me and my wife and didn't try to get menu from our guest. When she brought our salads and our guest's soup, she put the soup in front of my wife instead of going to our guest and handing to her. She came out from kitchen area demanding a $2 charge for extra sauce nobody ordered. My wife's panang curry chicken was tasteless, the peppers tasted raw and flavorless and the chicken meat was flavorless. Her "fried " dumplings were cold as was her "fried " springroll.. Our guest ordered fried tofu pad thai which the " fried" tofu was cold as well. I guess they " fry " everything the day before (?) then just add to a sauce hoping it gets reheated? Lazy kitchen staff? I ordered drunken noodle with extra " steamed" noodle for $2 more. Must have gotten steamed the same time the dumplings and spring rolls were fried? Best part of meal was the sesame dressing on the side salads . They must store the salad next to their fried dumplings and spring rolls and steamed noodles. The lettuce was good and chilled . Used to eat here once every 3 months before covid, guess the old crew must have fled the area? These folks have really let the place go. I don't want to badmouth a place I have loved for a long time But what can I say? It's just not the same. I always get Pad Woon Sen, and it's a shell of what it once was. I'm not leaving a low star rating because I want them to go back to being the Thai place I loved, or maybe a reinvented version. Make sure the sauce is ON POINT. Adding many vegetables that aren't important or valuable to the dish won't make up for bland and dry meat that is hard to get through. Fewer but more quality ingredients will take you a long way. Went here for lunch with Momma Dukes. She's branching out into Thai food, but usually only goes with me for recommendations on dishes. She got panang curry chicken (her favorite, and a classic; I always say if a Thai restaurant can't master panang, it's not worth eating at). I decided to try Pad See Ew, a dish I never had before. As per usual, I had a Thai iced tea to accompany my food. Sooooo delicious, I could drink Thai iced tea any day, any time, for any reason. I had the Tom Yum soup and fresh rolls for my sides. The Tom Yum was good, but I'm not a big fan of mushrooms, so I didn't eat those. The fresh rolls were out of this world. The Pad See Ew was great, but was lacking in heat for me. I had a bite of my moms Panang and she shared a spring roll with me. Panang was delicious as per usual, but again needed a little more heat for my liking. The spring roll was perfectly crispy! I've eaten there twice. Pad Thai with beef the first time and beef teriyaki the second. Portions were fine, taste exquisite. I like spicy food, but this was not spicy. I understand they will make it spicy if you request. Seemed to be a steady flow of customers, but not overly crowded. The waitstaff is very pleasant and friendly. Very accommodating, they asked how I would like things, but I'm more interested in traditional Thai cuisine, and didn't want to customize. We decided to stop here for a late lunch based off of the reviews we read. The location and atmosphere are unassuming but the service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I wanted to try a new dish I had never had before and our waitress was very helpful in selecting a meal. The appetizer and entrees came out quickly. The food was delicious. The guy with the glasses and the short lady. They are Rude with mean looking faces. Great food and service!! We tried the red curry with chicken and Thai fried rice with chicken. The food did not disappoint.

My wife has Celiac disease, so she can't eat gluten (wheat, rye, barley, or oats). We just went to Tarntip, and the staff was incredibly helpful. They took the time to understand her allergy and make sure her food was gluten-free. The food was really good, and the service was great. I definitely recommend Tarntip. The food is pretty good,but the service is awful. You walk in and a server yells " 2?" from across the restaurant and then tosses two menus on the table and walks away. It happened a couple of months ago,but we gave it another shot last night.My husband ordered his usual,and the flavor was good,but it was a little bit of chicken and veggies swimming in a pool of sauce.Once we got our food,we didn't see the server again until it was time for the check. Also,there was an employee plucking her eyebrows and putting on makeup behind the bar,and that is not sanitary at all.
