Last Spring I decided that I needed to redecorate my 3 season porch. Up where I live in Western Massachusetts, I could not find any fabric stores with upholstery choices that were to my satisfaction. So I journeyed down to my former hometown of NYC in search of upholstery tweeds in mcm period colors. Upon exiting a Corona Queens fabric store- I stumbled upon a charming storefront just next door called Oscar Deco, The Fine Art of Restoration. It was fortuitous because I was also looking for upholstery services and was also not happy with the choices back home. I met Aida and Oscar on that very day in their atelier and felt immediately that I had found my upholsterers. They were warm, friendly and took great care to explain to me what will be involved to get the best possible outcome for my newly acquired mid century modern Danish Teak set. I wanted to have original looking box cushions with piping and hidden zippers for 2 lounge chairs and a 3 seater sofa. Aida told me measurements would not be enough, that I had to bring the sofa in and one of the chairs in order to have properly fitted cushions. It was not an easy task coming from so far but eventually well worth it. Aida gave me good fabric suggestions and sent me around to several fabric places in New York that were unknown to me. When I found my ideal fabric combination, I brought them the materials and furniture- the turn around time was 2 weeks as they promised. I must say I was awestruck the day I came to pick up the finished product. The attention to detail and the quality of the work was just exquisite. They had advised me that this kind of furniture with banded coils, requires a custom cover over the coils or else the coils make an imprint on the cushions and inevitably damages the cushions in turn making it impossible to use as reversible cushions. I might add that not any other upholsterer that I consulted knew or cared to make this point to me nor did they mention providing those covers as part of the job. Oscar and Aida are true Artisans and expert craftsmen, it is plain to see from their portfolio of pics shown here on Yelp. But to see what you envisioned come to life and have it exceed your expectations- I just could not have felt luckier about that day that I stumbled in to their place. A+ experience from beginning to end. We loved our sofa so much and were so hesitant to reupholster it because of the fear of someone not doing a good job. We are so happy that we came across the high reviews Oscar Deco had on Yelp. We are even happier that we can add another 5 star rating to the list. From the market research we did prior to contacting Oscar Deco, I can safely say that their prices are very competitive. They referred me to several high end stores in Manhattan where I could pick fabric for my sofa. I am so happy for those referrals as I had no clue which stores to pick out from my general "NYC fabric store" search. They even picked up the fabric I purchased from the Manhattan store and took it to their shop. At no extra charge. Amazing. Made my life so much easier. Oscar was on time to pick up my sofa and even completed the work before the due date I was given. It was a joy to work with Aida and Oscar. It is clear to see from their emails, phone and face to face communications how professional they are and how proud they are of the work they do. And they do it so well! When Oscar delivered my sofa and took off the plastic cover from it my jaw dropped! The work they did was superb! Stitching was done really well and we can now enjoy our sofa for many more years to come. When planning to refresh old furniture, here's the best advice I could give you - call Oscar Deco! Behind the name is the husband and wife team of Oscar and Aida Rodriguez. After reading the glowing Yelp reviews, I decided to take the leap and hire them for reupholstery of a sectional sofa and chaise/ottoman. They were in shabby condition, but for many reasons, I wanted to keep them life after my apartment renovation. I detailed my vision, especially of the sectional and Oscar and Aida listened carefully. They went to work, literally turning the sectional from a slouchy, slipcovered mess into a tailored masterpiece. When I first saw redone, I couldn't believe it was the same piece of furniture, because now it's impeccable, with many years of useful life. Ditto the chaise/ottoman. As many have remarked, in addition to their talent and the high standards they set for their product, they are also truly wonderful people to work with. I had met Oscar when he personally came to pick up my furniture so that we could look it over together, enabling him to completely understand my expectations. This is my first ever Yelp review, but I felt compelled to leave one after working with Oscar for a few years. A little background first. I'm starting a mid-century modern furniture business, and generally, I send Oscar mid to high-end pieces, e.g., Nakashima, Sornay, Finn Juhl, etc. Even though Oscar isn't specifically a mid-century restorer, he is as talented as any specialist I've ever worked with. I have no hesitation sending him anything I pick up. I know this might sound over the top, but there's no way to describe him other than an artist at what he does. He works with me to identify how a piece should be redone, and then, he executes the restoration flawlessly. In addition, Aida and Andrew (who handle quotes, inquiries, etc.) are also a pleasure to work with. Working with smaller businesses, you tend to run into the gambit of personalities, but everyone at Oscar Deco tries their best to be prompt, professional, and helpful. Their location is obviously a little off the beaten path from Manhattan and/or most Brooklyn neighborhoods, but if you can make that work for you, you won't be disappointed with the quality of their work, prices, or overall experience. I am not used to writing reviews, but this time it is different; I want to let people know about my trajectory-experience on getting my sectional sofa reconditioned and reupholstered by Oscar Deco, Inc. Let me first say that Oscar and Aida are caring professionals, and they will guide you through from recommending the Fabric Stores to giving you advice on the type of fabrics that would sustain wear and tear. It took me months to visit all the Fabric stores, and weeks to make the selection of my fabric, I went from wishing a blue sectional to later deciding to go beige, and I am glad I did. Beige it is. My sofa came home two weeks ago, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the two pieces arrive with the additional throw pillows. The craftsmanship is outstanding, the piping and finishing details are beautifully done, and I love my sofa. I could have never found a sofa that is so me anywhere without spending a ton of money. The fabric color and pillow combinations were all my own design, and Oscar Deco Inc did his part in reconditioning and reupholstering the two pieces thus creating a one-of-a-kind sofa sectional that can't be bought at any store. If I could give Oscar 10 stars, I would. I had a buffet table that I inherited from my Mom and Dad. It is almost 60 years old. My parents took care of it like it was gold, but as they grew older and needed caregivers, the caregivers ruined the buffet. They put plants on it and let the water run out of the plant onto the furniture and it completely ruined the top of the furniture. I debated what to do with it. I did not think it was repairable but it had so much sentimental value. My parents were immigrants and this buffet was a symbol to them that they "made it in America." So I found Oscar, sent pictures to him and he said .... no problem he could bring it back to it's day of glory. He picked it up, refinished it and fixed the gaping gouges in it from the water damage. I couldn't believe how nice it is. He is a true craftsman and it is really obvious that he loves what he does. Selfishly, he made me very happy. He gave me back a part of my childhood and when I look at this beautiful piece of furniture I feel the same pride that my parents had owning this magnificent piece. We contacted Oscar regarding restoration of an antique kitchen island table. The island was the center piece of our kitchen - the heart of our home, which was destroyed during the Sandy super storm. The piece was completely submerged in flood water for several days. It was the only piece from the kitchen we were able to salvage and it became symbolic of our efforts to rebuild our home. Besides being an absolutely gentleman Oscar came to us, not only with sympathy for our plight, but a complete understanding of what the restoration meant to us as a family, not to mention his obvious skill and professionalism. We feared that it could not be restored and we were completely amazed and overjoyed when he completed the fully restored piece - better than it's original state. It now sits, again, in the center of our new kitchen as a symbol of over coming adversity. While looking for an upholsterer to restore our antique sofa, we happened upon the Yelp reviews of Oscar Deco, a family owned and operated business specializing in restoration of all kinds of furniture and wood work. Up to this point, we hadn't seen anything approaching the raves this lovely family has received for their work. And the raves were well deserved as we found out upon completion of our nearly one hundred year old sofa. It is an absolute work of art! From the very beginning we were charmed by Oscar's wife Aida, as well as Oscar himself. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We brought them several swatches of possible fabrics. Ultimately, we purchased a beautiful mohair fabric in a store near their establishment. We had spent weeks looking for the perfect fabric and we don't think we could have made a better choice. And they agreed. The entire piece was stripped down to the "bones" of the sofa. Much of the old padding and horsehair was disintegrating and the springs were an absolute mess. Oscar, Aida and their staff went to work and restored it beautifully. We highly recommend Oscar Deco for their fine workmanship and wonderful attention to detail. I have over 30 years of experience working with upholsterers. I buy and furnish my own top-quality fabric and have extremely high finishing standards. I highly recommend always giving design vendors very detailed (even illustrated) written instructions so the job is clear to all, and everyone's expectations are met -- clear communication is vital, on both sides. Recently I was delighted to find kindred spirits in Aida and Oscar, the owners at Oscar Deco Upholstery, who recovered and reinforced a Mid-Century Modern Danish open-arm chair. They know and appreciate fine furniture, anticipate work with smart questions, take their time, and use the best old-school fabrication methods to execute highly-skilled reupholstery at a fair price (they are in demand, so if a rush job is even possible, prepare to pay extra). They contacted me as soon as discovering that surprise structural work was needed, which was expertly done for a reasonable added cost. The owners are cordial, trustworthy, promptly responsive, and a pleasure to interact with. You can find less costly upholstery services, however, fine upholstery is an art, and an excellent investment in your home that can offer decades of pleasure. So where do I begin to tell you about Oscar and Aida? I was recommended to use them by a neighbor. When I called and Oscar came, he explained everything that had to be done to my badly damaged bedroom set. He had to strip down all of the polyurethane and years of whatever else was on there. The set was a mess. I also gave him a curio. After a few months, I wasn't in a hurry, everything came like brand new. When I saw that, I gave Oscar an antique wood inlaid table to do. His price was very fair. His wife delivered it with the pillows I ordered from them. Everything was perfect. Oscar has an unusual love of furniture and his craft. He puts his heart and soul into everything. Between Oscar and Aida, you are in the best hands. He knows what he is doing, what will work and delivers above and beyond. I have other projects that they will do when I am able but for now, I am extremely happy I found them. I knew from meeting them in their store the first time that no further shopping around was necessary. They are both kind, sweet, patient and fair. We hired Oscar Deco Inc. to restore a piano that was given to us. He was so prompt for the pickup, he actually beat us there and was almost finished loading the piano by the time we arrived to the location. He has a special trailer that is completely set up with straps and blankets to properly protect the piano as he moves it. Based upon his initial assessment of the piano during the delivery and our conversation as he was setting it up, we decided to hire Oscar for the piano's first restoration in 50 years! The previous owner had not maintained the exterior and it was in bad shape, but the mechanics of the piano were intact. It took a few weeks for the restoration and what he delivered to my home looked like it was rolled out of the show room that day, Beautiful Workmanship. That first tuning is happening as I write this review...and I can report that Oscar Deco Inc. is going to be our 'go-to' resource for many years to come. We was taken advantage off by a rotten dirty man; he took our money and our antique 60's Lane coffee & 2 end tables and he just disappeared along with our the tables. Took us a few weeks to actually find the tables and also see that he used his dead father old company, only to find out that it is now a check cashing place on Roosevelt Avenue. We checked to find a decent, honest company to refurnish the tables (that this man actually made them worse with deep scratches, etc.,) we came about Oscar Deco. Called and explained what had happen and they were so concerned; with what happen and being scared, went actually drove over to the shop to make sure they were actually there. Finally we felt safe and gave them our tables. Well, we received them back yesterday and believe us, boy did they make them NEW AGAIN! From the very beginning, with just the greeting that i received to the help that i received in choosing the proper fabric for the piece that i wanted to be re done., to the finished product! I'm not sure why any of the other reviewers would say that communication was lacking, because that was not at all our experience. Aida was fantastic...kind, courteous and always informative. Oscar and his assistant were the utmost professionals when they came to our home to do the pick-up (he even had his own booties). He reviewed his ideas with me and got my sign off right there in my home. The pricing for my upholstery job, considering it was a practical rebuild of our sofa, was very fair. I upgraded to down wrapped cushions, which added considerable cost, but is well worth it. Though they are not fabric purveyors, they offered me several sources to research. I sent them my options and they gave honest opinions about quality, longevity and ease to work with. I found Oscar Deco, Inc., in Corona, Queens, by searching online, looking for a place near me that could restore, repair, and reupholster a ca. 1940 platform rocker with all original upholstery and parts. Based on the reviews here, I called Oscar. Oscar himself came to my home to pick up the piece, and spent real time to discuss the wood, the work needed, and looked so excited to see that this was "the old upholstery." I was pleased to be working with such a professional and courteous artisan. After looking at the fabric I had chosen, he took the time to suggest the wood color he would go with. He had a (very fair) estimate prepared and a clean truck to place the chair into. The process took a week longer than I'd planned, but good results are worth it. Their work was simply outstanding. The chair looks better than I ever thought it could, and so comfortable. Oscar himself and son delivered it, and they, too, were excited about the results. That is the work of an artist. read more

This time we collaborated with Oscar in locating and ordering ecological materials - foam and faux leather from excellent green suppliers - something very important to us that Oscar fully supports and understands. We are completely satisfied with Oscar's beautiful work and need look no further for any upholstery or furniture restoration job. It was a pleasure working with Aida and Oscar on my project. My sofa was in decent condition. However the fabric and the styling needed to be updated.
