I don't understand why people rave about this place. First, I got my plate within five minutes of ordering. To me that's very suspicious. Because I got chicken fried steak for breakfast and that always takes awhile. Then I figured out why. It was out of a box. Both my ex-wives were in the restaurant business and I know machine made food when I see it and that was not hand breaded. It was from a box of frozen ones. The eggs were ok. But the hashbrowns... were a crime against hashbrowns. Burnt on the outside, wet, and almost cold in the middle. Clearly cooked from frozen and cooked way too hot, too fast. No salt, no pepper. No seasoning of any kind. So I added salt, pepper, gravy, _and_ my eggs to them and _still_ couldn't finish them. They were terrible. I won't go back. read more

Asked if it was good and the server said yes, people were upset when it was off the menu. Well should have kept it off. I have been a fan of Oscar's since they opened. To tell my age I enjoyed eating at Oscar's Steak House (Original Owner) when I was a kid. It was our go to place for special occasions. I was very happy that someone opened Oscar's Diner in Oscar's honor. I went there about a week ago after walking out of another establishment with horrible service. I found the Oscar's to be very busy and crowded which is normal. I was seated promptly and had a very friendly waiter named Jase who was very pleasant and helpful. The food, as always was up to standards. If you want good comfort food at a reasonable price, it would be hard to beat Oscar's Diner. read more

Not a bad place. Food is good. It comes out piping hot every time so don't immediately dig in because unless you ordered a salad I am betting you will burn your mouth. Unless you are sitting at the bar service is a little slow during mid day. That is mainly because the lunch rush is massive. The decor is fun and the menu is a basic diner with a couple surprises. The kitchen does get loud during the lunch rush so be warned if you sit close to the kitchen. You will hear every order coming in and out. Not a bad choice and I will be back. read more

I ordered burgers and on was completely burnt black and the other was supposed to be medium rare and was well done. so I called and told them and had them make 2 new ones and the girl up front was very snobby and rude and the secon medium rare burger was well done again. this is one of the worst places I have ever eaten. read more

The name says it all, classic American fare, done classically well. I was torn between the Bbarney Fife BLT and the turkey bacon wrap, I got the latter, and was not disappointed. Excellent taste, size and price. The chicken fritter sandwich looks like it needs its own zip code. Whenever I'm back in the area I will be back to sample more. read more

Well I've been a loyal customer of Oscar's for several years. The quality of the food is good but they nickel and dime customers. If you want more than 2 slices of lemon it'll cost ya $2.00 for up to 6 slices. It's labeled as a vegetable. If you want more than 1 little cup of salad dressing it's $0.25 per cup. Those are just a couple of examples you will find. The cost of the food alone should be able to cover the cost of the small items. Tea sweet or not is $2.49 then you add more than 2 slices of lemon, that tea with lemon went from $2.49 to $4.49 for tea. I'm done with Oscar's, there are several waitresses I will miss but that's life. I'm taking my business elsewhere. No more loyalty to Oscar's since that loyalty is returned with a price. read more

Food was good. I had the nachos platter and my friends had burger, potato skins, and something else I can't remember.

I have been eating (mostly carryout) there for years. In the last six months I noticed their mashed potatoes tasted like boxed mashed potatoes Runny and not much more than a tablespoon on the plate and very little gravy. The coleslaw tasted rancid. But the fried chicken was okay. Their hamburgers are just too big. Huge amount of meat. Almost impossible to eat in a bun. But people seem to like that. Prolly all related to economy. I think I'll wait awhile before going back. They always have a crowd in the restaurant tho so it must be good. I guess I'm just not much on "diner" food. read more

If you want basic American, this is a good place to be. An older type crowd because, you know, it's a diner. Omelettes are good, particularly Florentine. You can get low carb sides or some good home made chips. Might have to watch fox news and sit next to a dude in a feed store cap, but you'll have a decent meal. read more

We ate there Thursday night 12/16/21. Steaks and potatoes all were overcooked except the dinner rolls were not fully cooked. We were very disappointed since previous meals were always excellent. To their credit they did offer to recook new steaks but we did not have time to wait. All of the wait staff were outstanding, must have just been an inexperienced cook. I eat at Oscar's twice a month like clockwork. I have never had anything I did not like. My favorites there are the Steak salad, grilled cheese sandwich and chili. I had breakfast there and that was good. Always busy. A favorite, especially for the older crowd. The walls are covered with Hollywood memorabilia and is just one of those good restaurants. Been here a few times, usually with family, and have never been particularly amazed. The decor evokes a retro style diner, with bright, clean white walls, checkered accents, classic movie posters, and historic photos of Jefferson City. On the other hand, the TVs in the backroom, inevitably tuned to sports or Fox News, should be relocated to a sports bar post haste. The food is competently cooked and reasonably priced, without any creative twists/flourishes to set it apart from any other diner, which is perfectly OK if you're just looking for a quick, cheap lunch or breakfast. During my last visit I had eggs, sunny side up, sausage, hash browns, and toast. The eggs were a bit over-cooked, but still runny, and the hash browns were crispy on the outside and hot throughout. The sausage could have used more flavor. SO and his father both had the country-fried steak, smothered in gravy, and thought it was pretty good. Service is usually pretty good; the staff is helpful and keeps your coffee filled. Probably not the best diner in Jefferson City, but you could certainly do worse. read more
