The service was great especially since I was in a group of about 20 people with at least 4-5 checks but our waitress made it look so easy. great concept, nice atmosphere... but, all the customers including us were freezing, temperature set way too low to eat comfortably. Methinks this was the reason the food served was cold as well! Had a great breakfast here on my first visit. The food was nothing spectacular but very solid for breakfast. Service was outstanding. It was crowded and we were quoted a 15 minute wait. We were seated within that amount of time, our order was taken quickly and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, all hot & fresh. While we waited for our food our waitress and other staff constantly offered coffee refills. I also enjoyed the pictures on the walls. I would definitely come back here! read more

Nice friendly service and busy restaurant. Food is not freshly made from scratch, but rather pre-made heated and/or fryed food.

This is our main go-to place for the coworkers lunch once a week. We generally visit twice a month or so. With their options on the menu almost everyone is happy. You can order anything almost any way you want it. Their bathroom is always clean and matches the old school decor around the entire restaurant. They have daily specials for lunch and also a lunch menu. My go-to is their cheeseburger (and you can even order a small version - the Little Ritchie, same stuff just a smaller portion). The servers are always nice and attentive. The only complaint I can think of is no broccoli!! I love broccoli ;) read more

I went to Oscar's last weekend on Saturday September 17th, The place was packed and there was a 15 minutes wait. As a rule if you have to wait to be seated it is a good sign that the food is delicious. Maria and I waited and it was about 10 minutes before we were seated. The service was prompt and quick. Our server was attentive and offered daily specials. We had the French toast with eggs and bacon and the hotcakes too. They were perfectly made. I ordered my eggs over medium and that's how I got them. Perfect. We enjoyed our meals and went on our way. On Sunday we decided to go back for a second try. The wait time was 1/2 hour at 12:00pm. So we decided to sit at the bar stools next to the kitchen. Service was great and we saw just about every plate that they serve at the restaurant pass our eyes. Each plate looked delicious. We can count on Oscar's for good ole comfort food. Tonight, for the first time, we had the Honeymooners steak dinner for two. Two 16 ounce sirloins cooked perfectly. They were tender and delicious! Salad, baked potato, rolls and a shared piece of blackberry pie. Perfect. A great bargain. read more

I like this place. Family style restaurant that is very busy on the east side of town. The hippie dippie chic and I have been here many times with some friends and their wonderful kids and the kids' kids. As most good restaurants it is a busy place and.sometimes a small wait it warranted but the wait is definately worth it. They have a great breakfast and unfortunately that is all I have had there. I had the Country Eggs Benedict. Grilled sausage on the english muffin with the eggs and just smothered in sausage gravy. Very, very good. If you leave here hungry, it's not their fault. The portions are generous but not ridiculous. The food is very solid and based on the crowd on a Sunday morning, the service is very efficient. PROS: Staff is the best in town! Service is outstanding, large portions for the price and the menu covers a lot of old timey diner favorites. Great place to go laugh or chat with friends and family. :o) The booths are large and comfy with plenty of decorations to look at. CONS: PEPPER ALERT!!!!! The cooks are the only reason I have a problem with the place--it's an easy fix but the boss (a really super nice guy) lets all the cooks fix food to their taste rather than the customers. It's their idea is (the cooks) "this is how I like it and you're going to have to like it that way too!" That's where the PEPPER ALERT comes in. They use white pepper, red fleck pepper, course black pepper and spicy sausage to make the biscuits and gravy. Can you say FIRE IN THE HOLE!!??!! I know of many people including myself that have complained time and again but--too bad so sad! I ordered pancakes one day and got one perfect one and one that was so burned--it was charred and snapped when broken. The cooks response? "I put it on the bottom and the top half is good." Well dude, the burned taste travels alllll around your mouth--yuck!!!! The hash browns will either be freshly cooked and perfect golden brown or a greasy, over-cooked held too long mess. Shame cooks . . . Shame on you!!! Don't blame the long closing for the remodeling --it's reasons like that and the pepper are reasons people are not coming in like they used to. Take it or leave it works . . . A lot of people are leaving. ICE BOX!! They keep it so cold--bring a jacket especially in the summer. The help doesn't like to be hot and they have to ware long pants and aprons and they roast while they work. ICE BOX PEOPLE!!!! I really don't like wearing fleece in the summer but you'll have to do it to get through your meal once they crank down the air! Burrrrrrrrr Fox News: They also have tv's in every area of the diner. But instead of showing classic shows--they have ALL of them showing Fox News!!! What the hell?? I'm coming to your place to relax and this is what you have on the screens? Seriously??? Yeah that's the other black mark against them. The last thing I want to think about is politics of ANY kind when I'm going to have a beer and relax. Come on! Give us Lucy! The Munsters!! Not politics . . . Ewwwwwww. I see the cooks at this place like most elected officials . . . you elect them to vote and pass laws on your behalf . . . BUT . . . when they get there--they vote for what THEY like and NOT the people that they represent. Look dudes . . . I have to pay for the food I order--I have to eat the food I ordered--I should be able to get it the way . . . I WANT IT!!!! Now there's an idea! Ohhhhhhhh wait a minute!!!! Food was good except that my friend said the chili tasted canned. Service was another thing. I asked waitress Brandi if I could get onion rings as my side. She said yes and I have a table-full of witnesses. When I got the bill I had been charged for onion rings. When I asked her about it she said we charge extra for onion rings. I said you didn't tell me that. She said "I thought you knew that". I said "I have no idea why you thought that." Why would I ask about it if I already knew? So I paid her (never to see her again even though our drinks were empty). I approached a girl at the front counter who also told me that I had to pay extra. I said the waitress should have told me. The girl said that is up to the waitress. What? My friend said that we won't come again if they didn't take care of it. The girl said, "Have a nice day." How rude. It was obvious that neither one cared. They need some customer service training. Plus where is the side that actually came with the meal? I've heard local rave about this place, so I thought I'd finally check it out with my family. I have to say, I'm not sure what the raves were about. Decor is nice and staff is friendly, but I doubt I'll be returning for the food. I had a baked potato which was horribly undercooked (read: hard) and was just barely warm when it arrived at my table. It didn't even melt the butter that was on it. My kids had french fries which were also undercooked and tasted of freezer burn. My mother-in-law ordered chicken fried steak. For a diner it was more a 4 1/2 , but it wasn't as bad as a 4. The décor was fun and the food was OK. There was a nice quantity of food and great service even though the waitress had to come back 4 times to get our order. One in our party asked for the catfish sandwich, but instead he ended up with the cod sandwich. It was correct on the ticket so it had to have been mixed up in the kitchen. The cod was still cooked nicely and was about 3x the length of the roll. The service was worth 5 stars, the food was worth 4, and the bathrooms were clean. read more

My family and I ate here the other day for the first time and I had a pulled pork sandwich and a cup of cheeseburger soup. The soup was amazing!! we were visiting out of town and stopped here for their gluten free options, and during our breakfast a wasp was flying on the blinds next to us, not bothering a soul so of course the manager here decided that it would be appropriate to swat the wasp above our food. the wasp landed in my friends potatoes and the dust from very dirty blinds landed on everyone's else food. although my friends food got replaced and only her food, the staff was still very slow in getting our checks. we decided to give them another chance because another customer had told us their shakes were really good so we ordered three shakes, waited thirty minutes, talked to the same manager who swatted the wasp, he told us he would put a "rush" on it, and then we waited about another 10 minutes before we got our shakes. we ended up being late getting back to our hometown. thanks oscars read more

Swing and a Miss. Rate it about a 1 1/5. We arrived at 2 because of med appts. The wait staff was busy after lunch rush trying to clean and stock so we were treated like an inconvenience. The wait staff was also bickering between themselves. not a great atmosphere. the new building is pretty common, not much character. the food was below average. at a new restaurant or diner i always have the same thing so i can compare. i had the king cheeseburger with fries. the fries are steak fries and they were fine. the condiments were fine and fresh although i prefer lettuce leaves as apposed to shredded. the burger meat was dry and flavorless. they say a toasted bun but it wasn't and the bun fell apart about half way through the meal. just turns everything to garbage. Didn't finish my meal. oh well my dogs liked it. took the waitress about 7 minutes to bring the change back. or just seemed longer. i can think of at least 3 places that have better burgers, atmosphere and friendly wait staff. The 63 Diner, The Heidelberg, and Billiards on Broadway. all in Columbia. Wish i could have tried the meatloaf special but they were sold out. maybe a good sign. if in Jeff city again, might give them one more shot read more
