Oscar's Tree service ran their truck onto our sidewalk concrete and created a 4-5" deep crater. They refused to take responsibility even when we provided video and photo proof. They claimed there were cracks on the concrete before and therefore it's "damaged". It's quite different between a concrete with a few cracks vs a concrete with a tripping hazard crater. If you want an honorable company that will back their work, go somewhere else. read more

Sales rep came to the door, said "they were in the neighborhood." He gave me a reasonable estimate for tidying up a large camphor and we set an appointment for the next day. The next day (Saturday) the sales rep let me know they couldn't come. We set an appointment for Monday with arrival between 8 AM and noon. At 12:15 PM, not having heard from anyone, I called the rep and he said he would contact his manager. At 1:19 PM I got a text (presumably from a manager) saying they would arrive within an hour or so. At 2:30 I called the sales rep and said that if the crew didn't arrive by 3:00 they should cancel the job. It's now 3:20 and nobody has shown up or called in the last 50 minutes. I got an estimate back in October for a tree removal, stump grinding, and root removal for a tree in my front yard that may be causing problems in the sewer line. I was impressed by Oscar right away and his depth of knowledge. He helped me brainstorm some ideas as to what to do to replace the function of this tree that was giving us some coverage from the street. Post Holiday craziness and realizing that this tree was also clogging up my gutters, I called Oscar and asked if his estimate was still valid. He said it was and scheduled me right away. While it was hard to find a window of time due to the sporadic rain we have been having lately and my kids' complicated schedule, Oscar was able to work around my schedule. The crew worked quickly and efficiently. The stump and the roots had to be removed piece by piece (combo of manual and electrical equipments). 3 hours later, the tree, stump, and roots are all gone, hardly a trace of the tree that was there earlier. I got a letter from the City about street trees that needed pruning, so I called Oscar's based on their stellar ratings. When I mentioned the letter from the city and started describing the trees, he stopped me and said that I would probably be better off letting the city do it and charge me, since it would most likely be less than what he would charge, sight unseen. After my failed attempt to contact another highly rated tree trimmer I decided to contact Oscar's Expert Tree Service to trim and shape a single birch tree. I reached Oscar that evening and asked him if he did small jobs and he responded positively with the stipulation that there was a $175 minimum. I gave him the go ahead and we setup an appointment for 12:00 on a Tuesday. He called Tuesday at about 11:30 to tell me that he was running behind and that he would be there at 1:00. Have used these guys twice. One for a tree trim and another for tree removal. The tree trim was great but the removal was sloppy. They didn't finish the job in my opinion in removing the roots remains after grinding down the roots and left a mess. I called twice to have the remains removed with the 2nd call offering to pay more for removal of the remains and no call back which is pretty weak in my opinion. Job looks great, trees are more airy now and safer above my two story house (they trimmed three Oak trees). I later hired them to do the gutters, and they did a meticulous and careful work there as well. I took off 1 star because we had a mixup with the neighbors, the crew went in there unannounced to prevent large branches from hitting the neighbor's patio but the problem was resolved. This past February I looked out at the yard and realized the fruit trees needed pruning pretty much immediately. It'd been a few years since I last had it done, and our trees are numerous and large. His crew worked on our plum, almond, ginormous fig, and two-story apricot. Oscar came out and gave me a very fair estimate. For extra, I could've had him take away the debris, but I don't mind having the city pick up our yard waste. He was able to get his crew out just a week or so later. The trees had at least six to eight feet removed to bring them back to manageable height, and they've been growing out for almost four months now. They look great, and I'm still going to get a good harvest from the apricot and fig despite the big pruning.
