We had Robert come out to evaluate an unhealthy tree we had in our yard. He was extremely knowledgeable of all of the tree types we had, including the unhealthy one. He inspected them all to see if any others were showing signs of stress. He suspected the unhealthy tree was planted too deep (by a different company we had used), so the roots were not getting the proper amount of water. He told us how his team was going to adjust the planting situation, suggested what our weekly watering amounts should be and even came back a few more times to see how it was doing. I got deep root fertilization service with a high pressure tank from San Jose Tree Service. Robert came on-site to give an estimate with the detail on the amount of fertilizer and water, whereas other companies do not provide the detail on the amount of fertilizer. San Jose Tree Service has helped me twice. A few months ago we have a powerful wind storm. 2 acacia trees in the back yard were blown over and were a danger to our house and our neighbors. The Tree Service guys were very busy with wind storm calls and still made it to our house in 3 days. The trees were large and very tall. One of the team members was harnessed up and very skillfully climbed to the top and the tree began to be removed. As the work started I was very worried someone might get hurt. After seeing the largest tree handled quickly I could relax. I called them again to deep prune an overgrown fig and olive trees in my back yard. This was complicated because the trees are part of a very steep slope. Once again the work was handled quickly and safely. I will call them again next year to continue working of 2 other trees that are overgrown. In conclusion, I am very happy with the work they did. read more

Alan and crew came out and did the minimum of what I wanted. Cut the grass and weeds but made a lot of excuses. The weed roots are still there and will spring up again after the first rain. He made all kinds of recommendations like commercial grade weed killer and removing the soil to eradicate the weeds, instead of doing the work as requested. I thought I was clear on what I wanted (bare soil) but apparently the quality and level of cleanup I was expecting was "too much work". The tree pruning seems okay but I will wait a few months to see how well the job was done when they start growing again. TBH, I was surprised at the mediocre quality of the work since this company was recommended by another company whose work was top-notch. They literally saved my fallen tree! We had a 14-year-old red-leaf plum that blew over in the big windstorm in March. Since it wasn't an emergency, we didn't bother calling our tree guy for a bit. After a week, we noticed that the blossoms had blown away, and the leaves were opening. The tree was not dead. Over the course of the next couple weeks, I contacted about a dozen arborists to see if we could save the tree and was either told "we don't do that kind of work" or "there's a reason the tree fell over and it's going to die soon." No one would even come look at it. As it lay on its side growing away, I felt terrible about having to tear it out, but I didn't know what else to do. After the tree had been down for over a month, I went to Yelp one last time and found a message I had missed from Robert saying that they did in fact do that kind of work. He came out to look at my tree and agreed it was alive and doing well. He outlined the steps his crew would take to bring the tree upright. We were given pricing for various stages of the project, with adjustments should it look like the root system was not intact when they moved the tree and we had to shift to removal. By the time his crew was able to schedule my job, the tree had been down for 49 days. They had it upright in about an hour, and it's been thriving for the last 28 days. Robert said we would know for sure if it was going to "take" after 4 weeks, so I'm feeling pretty confident it's going to survive. In addition to raising the plum, they straightened a younger Podocarpus that had developed a lean and did some general pruning of other trees. While saving the plum tree was priceless to me, the overall cost of the service seemed fair and on par with what I've paid in the past. The added bonus to this crazy tale is the plum tree had been growing at a severe lean for years. So not only is my fallen tree still alive, it's standing up straight for the first time in 10 years! I highly recommend San Jose Tree Service.
