Good food at good prices with great service. Stopped in for lunch and was immediately greeted by the woman behind the counter. I asked for recommendations, and she was very helpful. I opted for three tacos: Pastor, Carne Asada, and Fish. In just a few minutes my tacos were ready. All three tacos were really good, with the Pastor being my favorite. But they all tasted great with fresh and tasty toppings. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and there is also a patio for outdoor dining. I had stopped in a bit early for lunch, and by the time I was finished the place was already starting to get full. So I definitely think it is worth showing up a little early or late to beat the rush. But this is a great place for tacos, and I'll have to try some of their other options next time. read more

Tried this place for the first time. Not a bad spot. The food has decent seasoning. It's different from west coast Mexican food for sure. Normally asada fries come with the cheese melted, so do not be surprised that Oscar's asada fries cheese is not melted. Nevertheless , the asada fries were good. Meh. These are not street tacos but more akin to what you get at Taco Bell or Taco John's. Standard ground meat, tons of lettuce, and that's it. I will say that I enjoyed their fish taco more as it came with a nice aioli and was a really big taco! Come on Tuesdays as they have a few tacos that are half off. The other major benefit is that many of their bottled beers are half off, meaning you can get beers for well under $2! That's really the only thing this place has going for it. Chips and salsa is fine, but salsa is too watery. Probably wouldn't come here again unless in the area on a Tuesday, and I would only get their fish tacos. read more

Oscar's is one of our favorite quick bites in Nashville. The service is great, the order is always made quickly, and the food is top notch...always fresh, delicious, and consistent. And the food is just as good if you order for takeout as it is if you dine in. The guac is AMAZING and so fresh - and my husband swears by the Ground Beef Burrito (Chimi Style). After visiting Southern Grist in Nashville... this place was close, so a walk to eat tacos was planned. The immediate thing I noticed was the price at this place. Things are priced reasonably. It was mid-day on a Tuesday so the restaurant was filled with many people taking their lunch. A busy restaurant is at least a fresh restaurant. The menu had so many items that I could've ordered it all. Since there were other places to go, a long walk, and the concert that night... I kept it simple. The last thing I wanted to do is eat a bunch of food from a greasy place and then be uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Luckily, it didn't seem that greasy at all. When you step in, it seems like it could be a small chain place that you've never heard of. Oscar's is a local chain specific to Nashville. One of the immediate things I noticed were the tacos. They were under 3 bucks. Some of the Louisville taco shops have created a 4 dollar taco mindset. This reality at Oscar's made me want to order 5 of every taco but I decided to behave. The other important thing to note would be the burritos. They were all priced accordingly(5-7 bucks). I'm not a Nashville fan but being able to have a quality breakfast burrito at that price makes me want to visit more. The place is good. Is it the best I've ever had? Not exactly but I could easily eat this any day of the week. I ordered the Pastor and the ground beef taco. I normally try the Pastor when I go to a new taco place because what even is a taco(life) if it doesn't have pineapple on it. So many places mess this taco up... it was perfect at Oscar's. The ground beef taco was also good but the meat was dry. I did assist the beef taco by trying the mild and hot sauce. Both sauces were delicious. You should definitely give them a try. Run to this taco shops right now! It's soo good and authentic! Being from Los Angeles, it has been hard to find a place that has authentic quick Mexican food. Oscar's has amazing flavor and many options! We both got any two taco combo plates that came with rice, beans, and a drink. We also bought a small cheese dip and chips. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other tacos. I got a classic shredded beef taco and a pastor taco. The pastor is my favorite so far. The short of it: Super affordable, super delicious tacos! The long of it: We had a day full of brewery hopping in store. This kind of thing generally, at least in my case, necessitates some sort of sustenance/food break at some point along the way. Our second stop didn't offer food and had no restaurants around them. So after our first stop at Southern Grist (just up and across the street), we had made the decision, after a Google and Yelp search, to get our taco tuesday on at Oscar's. They had decent reviews and were in walking distance of the brewery, so we wouldn't have to move the car at all in between. It sits in a small strip mall sort of set up, with ample parking, in the shadow of the silo in the Nations neighborhood with the huge mural of Lee Estes (I thought it was Jimmy Carter before looking it up). At first I was a little nervous that we had made a bad decision and were walking in to a crappy chain place. And though it is a chain, it is a regional/small-numbered chain. It isn't much to look at inside, but if the food is good enough, it doesn't matter. I also have heightened expectations when I walk in to a Mexican food restaurant and hear Spanish being spoken all around me, by employees and customers alike. I wanted to try so so many things! All day breakfast burritos? Tacos? Tostadas? Quesadilla? I want it all! But no. We were here for tacos! All of the tacos are under $3, which is just a pleasure in and of itself, compared to my favorite taco places in Louisville! I opted for the fish taco and the shrimp taco. I mean...I wanted more! But experience has taught me that two tacos is, in Goldilocks-style, just right. The shrimp was my favorite of the two, flavor-wise. It just made me wish, like I normally do, that there was more shrimp in the taco. But 3-4 per taco is a totally normal and expected amount. I just wanted more because they tasted good. The fish was also pretty good. The fish taco though was a biiiiit over-filled with pico de gallo. Waaaay too many tomatoes. I had to scrape about half of them off. What I will say is if you come here expecting that, then you're good to go. I like what I order here and I come here often as a lunch option since it is close to my work. I really do just roll in and roll out and even forget to check-in when I come here. They're able to accommodate most palette types. They're also very generous with portions when it comes to getting what you pay for. You can pay as little as $5 for an entire meal to $10 for the hungriest person. Either way, they fit the budget and the hunger type. Sometimes that all I need when I am not trying to have a 'dining experience.' Come, grab, and go. That's my suggestion. I had not had a chance to get to any of the other locations but when I saw that there was an Oscar's Taco Shop opening near the corner of 51st and Centennial, I rushed to try it out. It's easy to miss the turn - you turn in as though you were going to Dollar General and it is in a strip of 3 or 4 businesses behind the store. Onto the review... owner and staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Menu includes beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, fish and vegetarian options. I tried the surf and turf burrito and on my second and third visit had the shrimp burrito with sour cream instead of the Oscar sauce (I have been trying to eat low salt and the Oscar sauce was a bit salty for me though normal palates may like it). I also tried the flan dessert which was smooth/silky/custardy and not too sweet. Ingredients seemed extra fresh and the shrimp was nice sized and well-prepared. The website and photos in the restaurant show the history of the owner's family's taco spot in California many years ago, which is cool to see the history and inspiration behind these Middle Tennessee locations. They also have french fry nacho type options, salads, enchiladas, "platters"(with rice and beans), tortas (sandwiches), fajitas and breakfasty options. Be aware this is a fast/casual spot and they make the food fresh as you order (it's not sitting out in a hot bar), so you'll have to wait a few minutes for it to get prepared. I've gotten the oscars chicken quesadilla a handful of times and it's always just been chicken and cheese, but this time it had chicken, cheese, pico, guacamole, refried beans, and sour cream. This was a takeout order and I'm allergic to beans so I spent about 10 minutes scraping everyhing out and trying to place the chicken back in the tortilla. Oscar's does the following things well: - generous portion sizes -guacamole in nachos and quesadillas - really filling -American mexican flavors The place is clean, customer service is good, food comes out quickly, and offers selection of sauces. The prices are decent, and it caters to a niche (or majority segment of the) market of those who like Mexican food the American way. The flavors are not very authentic, but satisfying. I have been discovering some very reasonable, close to authentic, and delicious hole in the wall Central and South American places. Given that, Oscar's is probably not going to be on my list of regular places to visit. I will say though, most places charge extra for guac and Oscar's gives a generous dollop of it in their dishes. That's noteworthy! Also, the portions are pretty large enough to be shared. They are very generous with their fillings. And, the menu is pretty extensive. So overall, I'd say good value for money. Been eating this for over ten years off and on. You know what you're gonna get when you come here - quick, flavorful, affordable, and great service. Not super authentic and all the flavors kind of run together sometimes but nonetheless it's good food. This is your late night or fast lunch meal that leaves you full for $8 and also satisfied. Not sure about the quality of the protein, but when mixed together with about ten other ingredients, it normally works. I couldn't agree more that Oscar's, any location of Oscar's, serve great food. I have been their fan for quite a while. How come the two stars? For the past three months, I had been receiving wrong orders four different times. When it happened the first time, I brushed it off. Perhaps the lady behind the cashier didn't really hear me because I was wearing a mask. Even though I didn't get the food that I ordered, I ate it anyway because I was damn hungry and because whatever they serve was delicious. But when I had wrong order after I placed the order through their app, that was just annoying. Please don't tell me you can't distinguish between shrimp, chicken and beef. Oh well!
