More than anything, he was just genuinely kind. He had such a great attitude and was honestly one of the nicest and most sincere people I have come across in a long time. You can tell when someone naturally cares about people, and that came through in every interaction I had with him. The food was great, but Keylin is what made the visit stand out. The tacos were very good, if overpriced. Honestly the food was great but the whole experience was not. The music was so loud I could not hear the cashier standing right across from me. Im personally not a big fan of how they call your name to come get your order instead of having a number at your table; they yell into the microphone and it's also so loud. It also takes longer than I feel it should to put orders together. More than once in the past we wanted to try this place, the line was only a few people long, but when we got up there the cashier told us orders were running about 30 minutes behind. So we left and went elsewhere. No time to sit around waiting for them to catch up. If they would turn the bloody music down, stop yelling into the microphone and just bring the food to your table, and figure out their kitchen so it doesn't take so long to put tacos together, this would be a completely different (and better) experience. I stopped into Velvet Taco with a friend while staying nearby for business. I looked for places on Yelp nearby that had vegan options and Velvet Taco popped up. They have indoor and outdoor seating (we chose outdoor) and they had some great music playing while we were there. I ordered the Nashville hot tofu tacos (2) and a drink and we found a place to sit. You can take a variety of hot sauces to your table as well which I always enjoy. The service was good, it took about 5 minutes for the order to be ready. I was really looking forward to getting an idea what the Nashville hot (normally chicken however I'm vegetarian) tofu was about. I took a bite as the tacos come and really didn't find much heat to the dish. Maybe it is more flavorful for those less accustomed to heat and spice but I fixed it with some hot sauce. I enjoyed the rest of my tacos with various hot sauces added. That really helped. I appreciate the veggie options at Velvet Taco however I'd like the spice level notched up a bit. I'll start by saying I have been to many Velvet Taco - most in Texas - so the bar is set high. The service was phenomenal here - they were so friendly and happy to help. The kind lady at the register even offered suggestions for the dip trio since it was cheaper than the two dips we wanted. Late night deliciousness! After a night out in Nashville, we hit up the only decent spot that was not your traditional fast food and we are so glad we did. First off, we eat a lot of Mexican food. Everyone here was super nice! Service was pretty quick although we got here before the line got long. You have to scan to park but it's free if you're eating at velvet . The first time I had this place was in Houston & then I realized we had a brand new one (east nash) at home. This was years ago but I've been obsessed ever since . Every taco is so flavorful! I eat velvet taco weekly & I'm always ordering the same thing over and over because they're the best: Mexi-Cali shrimp & slow roasted angus brisket. But yesterday I thought I'd try new flavors and got the chicken & waffles and the bacon smash burger. Holy smokes they were incredible!!! The chicken and waffles tastes exactly how one would expect this combo to be. Plenty of chicken, the right amount of sauce, and the taco shell is mildly sweet. Just a pro tip: eat this taco first because the waffle softens and then gets difficult to hold up. The smash burger was packed, juicy, and simply divine. I'm impressed with the crispy taco shell too! I sadly shared this one with my man because he'd never ordered it before and it would be a sin to keep it all to myself. Service is fantastic. The man who took our order brought it out for us when they saw me go inside and wait for my name to be called. So nice! This is what happened: It was my first time at that location and I wasn't aware that they used an intercom to announce the orders & since we sat outside I didn't want us to miss our names being called. They asked me what I was waiting for when I returned and waited by the counter and after I told them, they said they'd be happy to bring our food outside. A moment after I sat down, the food came out. The difference between this place and East Nashville is: the people working at this location seem to be more aware of their customers and serve with kindness. They also fill up the tacos more. Ending a bomb date night, we decided on tacos (because I mean who doesn't want tacos?!?!), and walked down to Velvet Taco. The set up is nice and makes for quick ordering. This place is wild after dark. You get the standard drunk crowd. But I had my first "Welcome to Nashville" moment when a drunk chick started hurling the "N" word at one of the employees taking orders. Cooler heads prevailed, and drunky's friends extended an olive branch and bought the employee a meal. I guess that sort of thing happens down there a lot. There were cops standing in there when the girl was screaming at the employee, but they didn't do anything. Just a bizarre scene, but hey I'm just a sheltered northerner so what do I know. Despite all that craziness going on, I must say the tacos were bangin'. During our stay, we hit this place up on more than one occasion (two to be exact). It really is just the perfect place to grab some late-night grub to soak up the alcohol. I'm happy to say that our second visit went without a hitch, and by hitch I mean insane drunk racist lady. One major reason we had to go back was there are just so many darn tacos to choose from. On the first visit, you order 2-3 tacos you want to try, but now having seen the entire menu, you start thinking about the tacos you'll order next time. The tacos begin to invade your dreams. Now granted, my one friend ate the spicy tikka chicken taco on the first trip and ordered four more the next time we went there. Apparently he wanted no other variety. Truly love at first bite. An absolute savior to Nashville's night owls, Velvet Taco stays open until four freakin' AM Friday and Saturday. During this five day trip, Velvet Taco was the only place we hit up twice. Not even that famous fried chicken place got a repeat visit. I mean, it did kind of help it was one of the few joints we could still get food that was somewhat near our AirBnb, but I know it's a prime location for them. There's another in the downtown area, and I just learned there are locations in a handful of other states as well. Perhaps they'll come up a bit further north one day. read more
