OSJ International is the most authentic Puerto Rican food I've had on the West Coast (not just in Seattleso far. Most Caribbean spots around Washington lean Jamaican, so finding a place doing proper Puerto Rican dishes felt special. The menu and quality reminded me of what you'd find back on the island, at least pre-pandemic. They had classics like chillo frito, mofongo, and pasteles, and it tasted like homemade small business cooking. Honestly, I thought it was even better than La Isla before the fire that shut that place down. A few pain points. It's far. The restaurant is south of Tacoma near I-5, so it's a bit of a drive whether you're coming from Seattle or even from the airport. It was also cash only when I went, though you could sit inside and eat. Last time I called it sounded like they were still mostly doing the to-go model and hadn't fully gone back to the way it used to operate. I haven't made the trip again yet, but it's still on my list. Also worth saying, after the pandemic when I moved to San Diego, I couldn't find an authentic Puerto Rican spot there either. That made me appreciate this place even more. After the Benito Super Bowl performance I'm definitely craving some Puerto Rican food again. Might have to make the drive soon. read more

Ordered to go as a first time visiting. We have been wanting to try this place for a very long time. It appeared as though the dining room was closed off. Not sure if it was always like this or just near closing hours when we arrived to pick up our order., The lady at the cash register was most pleasant and our orders were complete, cooked to order hot and fresh. We ordered 2 orders of the chicken dinners, pollo playero and had bits of pork added to it. We also ordered a side of beans. The food was freshly cooked, so it was nice and hot. It was well seasoned. The meats were tender (with the exception of the pork bits inside the rice). The food had a beautiful presentation with onion, green and red pepper slices on top of the meats. read more

Phenomenal!! As a foodie in Washington this was phenomenal and the pricing was out of this world, our server was the most informative and even made suggestions to make sure we had a great meal. Wonderful service the lady who took my order was very sweet. Need to add that it is only to-go orders online or somewhere because it indeed was misleading , I was expecting to dine in. I got the surf and turf mofongo, Alcapurrias, bacalaitos, & chicken mofongo. And the quesitos. As a boricua myself. I was so so disappointed. I really wanted to love it but the alcapurrias and bacalaitos tasted like they were the Goya frozen products. Did not taste fresh at all. The mofongo didn't have flavor and the consistency wasn't there. the quesitos barely had any filling so those weren't enjoyable either. The only thing I enjoyed was the churrasco. TAKE OUT ONLY - apparently the owners are considering opening it up again but there's no definite date. That's a huge bummer, because why furnish the place to close it off? Also, the single menu got kidnapped every time a family would try to cram into the tiny entry way. The gal taking the orders was super chatty and warm, she definitely neutralized the frustration of having to get take out. Many families pulled up only to return to their cars (us included), and that just seems detrimental to their business, but what do I know. For $70+, we got ropa vieja, a juice, a can of coke, a side of rice and mofongo de bistec. You decide if that's worth it, but to my knowledge, I'm not sure where the next closest PR restaurant is. Flavors were great, and I love plantains so that's always a done deal for me. read more

Not that Ponders is somewhere I would expect much, but there's a Mexican place in the same parking lot that beats this place hands down. I went to OSJ here on a recommendation & all I can think is the person who recommended it doesn't get out much as this was some of the lousiest, flavorless, greasy hole I've experienced in traveling around the . It is kinda hard to find good Puerto Rican food in WA. So I was impressed when I visited OSJ. The space is nice. The food seasoning reminds me of my grandma. Everything I tried was so good. To start we tried the Tostones rellenos de pulpo (octopus) and they were sesoned well and the octopus was tender. Then we ordered the bacalaito trio, they were good but I wished they were bigger. The alacapurrias were my favorite. They were filled with a lot of meat and the sazon was on point. Then the main entrees were bistec encebollado con arroz blanco y habichuelas. The bistec was tender, flavorful and habichuelas were seasoned. The carne frita was good. For drinks we ordered Piña Coladas and they were good. They could've had more alcohol in them LOL. The staff was attentive and super nice. If you are looking for a good Puerto Rican restaurant I recommend it. It's a bit of a drive from Seattle but it is worth it! read more

OMG I have been going to OSJ since they just opened up in their first location next to what is now the Tilted Rock. I had never had Puerto Rican food until then. That was over 10 years ago. Needless to say, they are forever going to be a staple in my life!! The FLAVORS ay dios mio, The BEST! MOFONGO WHAT? And then TRIFONGO!! When they moved to a larger spot, I was so happy for them because their clientele sure was growing. Can't blame them. Everything on the menu is amazing. The service is top notch!! I love you Carla!! I ate here for the first time this past weekend. Loads to pick from the menu but all authentic Puerto Rican dishes except one that was Peruvian. My son ordered it and it did not fail. I order the Jibarito. Drop Mic! The same for the Alcapurrias and Bacalaitos ... downed with a Malta and a Kola Champane. Everything we prefer hit the spot. I have every intention to try something new from the menu every time I go. The indoor seating is not available, they are only taking "order to go" only but they do have a small table with two chair outside. The wait for the food was about 20 min. Which is to be expected if you know Puerto Rican food... as well as it being a small staff taking the orders and one making it. This time I got empanadas , alcapurrias , chicharron de pollo w/ rice and beans and plantinos and the server offered to make a dessert for me as they didn't have any left and made me a puff pastry w/ cream cheese and guava. Very solid Puerto Rican restaurant, although located a bit far from the Seattle city center. If it were not takeout only, I would probably give this 4 or 4.5 stars - the takeout ruins the food by quite a lot. If you are driving down south, definitely do not miss stopping by here to check out some of the food, but try to come when they reinstate indoor dining! I got the alcapurrias (cassava fritters with ground beef) and steak mofongo (bistec encebollado). The alcapurrias were nicely fried though a little bit hard to bite as they are not the typical potato balls - they are made of cassava. It is served with thousand island sauce. Truly comfort food. The mofongo is solid as I really enjoyed the small crispy pork chunks spread throughout the plantains, making the dish more sophisticated and less one dimensional, but the steak is way overcooked and dry. Another miss is that they need to improve on takeout, if 100% of the business is now takeout only (no more indoor seating sadly) - the alcapurrias are deep fried so the hot oils seep into the styrofoam and I ate a few dust pieces of styrofoam which presents a health hazard. read more

I had the Mofongo with Carne Frita, White rice and stewed beans with Chicken rinds and Tostones al ajillo and absolutely everything was delicious! The service is exceptional and the ambiance seems to be very pleasant although they were going through remodeling and didn't get to sit and enjoy my meal, the music made the wait worth it. The outside is cute and a bit run down. The inside is nice. The Latin American vibe is definitely felt. Lovely flowers on the tables and great music. We ordered the Gallega paella and the lomo saltado. The paella was okay but didn't have a ton of flavor. The lomo saltado was so flavorful and delish. I would order this again. It seems random to me to have beef and peppers on top of French fries but it was so good! The portions were huge and there are a lot of leftovers. We got a cocktail and a Puerto Rican frappe and they were both pretty tasty and pretty. Everything in here is beautiful and looks amazing. The staff is friendly and great. read more
