The classic cuban is just amazing, super friendly service and the NA hazy IPA was a nice option, highly recommend!

After the parade, stopped in and ordered 3 Cuban sandwiches to go. While we waited, we had a glass of Pinot Grigio and a Cuban coffee. Both were excellent. Having had Cuban sandwiches in Little Havana, these ranked up there with those. I had the spicy pickles which added another element of flavor. The decor made you feel like you were transported over to Cuba. In the back dining area, they had a band playing which added to the experience. The service was great and staff was friendly. Food came out in a timely fashion. You will not need a passport to experience this culinary pleasure. read more

You know those meals that leave you thinking "this has to be one of the best meals I've ever had." That was my dinner last night here! The appetizers, drinks, entrees, and dessert were all absolutely incredible. My husband, 6 month old son, and I sat down right when they opened at 5 and upon looking at the menu I knew it would be tricky picking what to get because everything sounded soooo amazing. We got the meat pastry as well as the plantain appetizers which were excellent. I got the guava mojito, my husband got their version of a margarita. I believe both were made with white wine. Super tasty! I ordered the rockfish which was one of their specials and my husband got the Cuban sampler plate. We shared and truly enjoyed every single bite. Their cilantro sauce is to die for, I'd drink it with a straw if I could! Although we were quite full, we shared the cheesecake with a gauge sauce which is a family recipe, a bit softer than normal cheesecake and better in my opinion. As well as their special that was cubes of fried cream with a citrus sauce (I can't recall the name). All of which we paired with espresso. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Dining with a baby can be tricky but they made it easy by even bringing my son a book. And as if the food wasn't good enough, the restaraunt is so cute with a fun Cuban vibe. We can't wait to come back and work our way through the menu! Which will be hard to do because what we got was so good I'll want to order it again! read more

For some reason I had thought Mi Luna was only open for lunch, so I was excited when I looked them up and saw they were open Thursday evening. I read some reviews saying they get busy quickly, so I made a reservation a couple hours before we wanted to go to dinner. There were still plenty of reservations available, and we grabbed a reservation for 3 at 6:30pm. Mi Luna is very conveniently located 1 block from the Capitol Campus and has a very cute storefront. When we arrived they were definitely pretty busy but there were still several empty tables. We were seated right away. The interior is super cute and vibey. I ordered the fish special (rockfish) and a side of the postones (fried plantains). My husband ordered the veggie plate and my friend ordered the ropa vieja. Everything was so delicious, flavorful, and very filling. We all agreed Mi Luna is our favorite restaurant we've been to in Olympia. Our server was also very kind and provided the perfect amount of attentiveness. I will definitely be returning to Mi Luna, and can't wait to try more dishes! read more

So happy I stumbled on this location today! Reviews are totally legit. If I could swear on Yelp I'd say this place is so $:&!:!# good! I ordered the vegetable/rice/red beans/avocado bowl and a side of fried ripe plantains. Also the guava lemonade. My friend ordered a cuban sandwich and the fried green plantains. Flavors were amazing. Nothing spicy, just lots of well balanced flavor. Plantains are addicting. Both ripe and green style. Left feeling full but not heavy. Decor is super cozy. Staff all lovely. Oh my goodness! Had lunch here today with a friend, and not only was the food outstanding, the environment is gorgeous, clean and light and elegant but comfy and warm. I had a famous caffe con leche, omg yum. I decided to get a classic Cuban, because I love them, and it was SO worth it. Plus the red beans and rice was delish - really flavorful. At lunch you get to seat yourself, which was nice. You order at a counter and then servers bring food out to your table. All in all, this was a terrific experience and I will be back. read more

This place is beautiful! They have done such an amazing job with their decor. I was greeted immediately by a friendly staff member. I was there for an early lunch, so I was able to seat myself immediately. You can review the menu and place your order at the counter. They will provide you with a number and deliver your food to the table. I had the Classic Cuban Sandwich (dinner sized so I had leftovers) and the one of their amazing Cafe' con Leche!! Next time I want to try the Ropa Vieja - I have it on good authority this is a good one! If you are going for dinner be sure to call ahead for a reservation. Especially later in the week. (Closed Sun-Mon) They have a small parking lot off the street. This is especially nice during the lunch hour as they are adjacent to many State offices. After 5 street parking is free. They are on the corner of Capitol and Union across from Meconi's. They're pretty quick to get the food out, if you have a 30 min lunch take it to go, or better yet call your order in. Mi Luna is a very welcoming Cuban restaurant that is definitely worth visiting in Olympia. Tostones are great, especially topped with the salsa. The Ropa Vieja was really, really good. The meat was so flavorful and so tender, it all just melted in my mouth. You definitely need the salsa that comes on the side to cut the richness, but together it is a perfect combination of flavors. We had the citrus olive oil cake for dessert, and it was unfortunately kind of disappointing. Parts of the cake were oddly tough, and we didn't really get that much citrus as the overall sweetness dominated the flavor. Service was warm and welcoming although not entirely seamless. The environment is very comfortable, and volume levels are perfect for having a good conversation. read more

Our party started with the Pastelito de carne which had a flaky crust and delicious filling. The crunchy Tostones paired well with the pineapple salsa. Our favorite was the Camarones con coco, absolutely delicious. The fish special wonderful as well. Lechon with black beans was good but the other dishes were better. Went here on a Friday probably around 1:00-1:30 afternoon. Wife suggested it as she's heard many good things about the restaurant. I've never had Cuban food before so this was my first introduction. The inside is pleasant and nicely decorated. It gave me a "not in Washington" vibe if that makes sense. I really did feel like I was somewhere else. I wouldn't say it was super busy, but there was still a lunch rush; seating was tight, but ample. Menus are available by the front booth and you have to order at the counter. Apparently the waitress doesn't take your order (at least that day they didn't). Here is what we ordered: Me - Classic Cuban Sandwich with spicy pickles; glass of organic lemonade. Meal comes with banana chips. Wife - Mojo Chicken Bowl/Entree; black ice tea. Daughter (we picked up food to take back to her) - Roasted Veggie Bowl Entree Summary: Again, I've never had Cuban food before so I have no baseline to go off of, but per this experience, I'm not impressed. The sandwich was unflavorful and had a pungent, unpleasant odor. Not sure if that was caused by the grease or the actual meat. It didn't taste bad per se, but it certainly didn't stand out. Similarly, the lemonade was basic lemonade; not worth the $5. Banana chips were interesting, but again, taste was unremarkable. I want to give them more stars and there are two easy ways to do it; don't serve store bought plantain chips, and make it less noisy. I enjoyed most of my food with my friend at dinner. Definitely make reservations. It was very busy on a Thursday and when I asked the server she said it has been very steadily busy. We ordered the special appetizer; shrimp and pineapple salsa. It was served with either plantain chips or cuban bread. Luckily we got half and half because the plantain chips were definitely store bought, very bland, and not good. The cuban bread was good, so we just ate that. My friend ordered the veggie bowl and I got the ropa vieja bowl. They were both very tasty. Unfortunately they were out of the congri, so we couldn't try it. I really enjoyed the black beans. Mine was also served with a small sweet roasted plantain. We had the dulce de leche affogato for desert and it was delicious. I really like the way the restaurant was decorated. The downside, it was so noisy I couldn't hear the server, or my friend sitting across from me. They definitely need to install some acoustic tiles to the ceiling or walls to keep the noise from bouncing around. I would really like to come back, but I couldn't even have a conversation with who I was with. Our server did say that currently they are serving their lunch menu for dinner. That way they can get it dialed in. She said hopefully in a couple months they will roll out their expanded dinner menu. Probably the best Cuban sandwich I had in a while; crispy bread, flavorful meat, melty cheese, mustard and pickles.. it is hard to find a good one up here in the great Pacific NW. But, it is pricey @ $16.. you are paying for the atmosphere which is a bit elevated as it attracts a certain clientele. Plantain chips that came with it were most likely store bought, but good. The pastelito de carne had a nice delicate flake with light tasting flavor of the filling which included ground beef, capers, raisins, green olives and spices. Service was nice as multiple times was ready to take away my plates except they did forget my pastelito de carne which I had to remind them. Clean restrooms and they have their own free parking at the back. All in all a solid place that I will come back to. read more

One of the best, if not THE best, Cuban sandwiches I have ever eaten. The meat was tasty and tender. The Swiss cheese was melty and stretchy. The combination of roasted pork, mustard, cucumbers, ham, and toasted fresh Cuban bread was delightful. The guava lemonade was refreshing. This little gem has been open for a few months now and they already have a good size lunch gathering. The decor is amazing. This was once a fast-food restaurant that has been converted into a Cuban bistro. I really love the renovation. The ambience is bright, airy, and not too noisy. Yes, there is Latin music softly playing in the background. They also have an over-21 seating section. The service was friendly and super fast. I didn't really know what to expect at this restaurant, but I was so pleasantly surprised. First of all, the staff were all so extremely friendly and helpful; I felt like I was having dinner in a friend's home. The atmosphere is wonderful- they really decorated this place well and it is so cozy (you'd never know it was the old Subway!) I was a bit disappointed that they really only have one vegetarian dish on the menu, but it was so good that I'd be happy to eat it again and again. Oh yeah, I'm also Puerto Rican also identify as a New Yorkrican to be more specific... meaning someone both parents are Puerto Rican parents but born and raised in NY. Not upstate NY but NYC aka "The City" (Interesting history look it up). I've also lived in Miami for 12 years. I've lived on the Island (Puerto Rico) for two years but spent my summers and many Christmas growing up visiting family. Now, about the restaurant. I love this place.I can't say the ambiance is the classic Caribbean ambiance but it is still welcoming and well put together. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. The times I've been- one for pick up, one at the bar and one at a table I've ordered the Cuban Sandwich (it's my favorite sandwich of ALL sandwiches) the Ropa Vieja (another favorite Cuban dish) delicious. Full of all the right Caribbean flavors. Each rime I went, I had a desert. My go to is the Pastelillo de guayaba and the Pastelillo de guayaba con queso. Which was my only order the third time I went. If you like authentic Cuban coffee aka Cuban espresso shot, they have a small bar area to have you coffee with a nice desert or a decent cocktail. I'm already a returning customer and will continue to be one when I'm in the area or an in a mood for it. read more

Gets loud and busy, but the food is so delicious that it doesn't even matter. We started off with the ham croquetas and pastelito. The puff pastry was our favoured starter, super flaky and a delicious filling. We tried 5 entrees: ropa vieja bowl, lechon bowl, picadillo, camarones en coco, and the vaca frita. The bowl size is honestly enough to feel full, but if you are a big eater, the dinner size will likely be perfect; for me, it's guaranteed leftovers and maybe even a second meal. We finished off with dessert: guava cheesecake and coconut flan. Wow, an epic meal. The flavours were all perfect, everything soft and tender and cooked to perfection. Visited on a Saturday and there were no lines,so that was nice and easy. Parking is in the back, so it's easy access. I tried the ropa vieja and even though I don't really like olives, I liked this version. Mom tried the porkwith mango salsa and rice and it was delicious. Sis tried a guava pastry and it was solid. Truly, a warm and welcoming restaurant, friendly staff, homey decor, and amazing food!! My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday, August 30, at 5:00PM. While we were the first ones to be seated, the place was packed full when we left a little over an hour later. We were impressed for how warm and quaint Mi Luna is decorated. Very tasteful and elegant in an understated way. We felt right at home. Service also was great. Our server was, I believe his name was Victor though I may be wrong and, if so, sorry! He was attentive without being intrusive and checked back on us to see if we needed anything. The food. The food. The food. I told my wife, Cuban food for me is comfort food. Sitting there tasting the spices, smelling the aromas, I felt like I was at my grandma's house. The food was beyond excellent! Ropa Vieja and Lechón were our entrees. Both proteins were tender, juicy, well seasoned, and just flat out delicious!! The rice and beans were equally tasty and rose to the occasion in pairing with the protein. I wouldn't change a single thing on the plate. We started with a pastelito and a salad. Yummy!!! My wife said she could have eaten two of the salads. Meanwhile, the meat in the pastelito was warm, toasty, and the pastry was flaky. I could have two and call myself happy. Desert was affogato and the olive oil cake. Not much to say here aside from we did prefer the affogato but only because we were stuffed from the meal and the cake felt a touch heavy. Not a bad thing, I promise, just a bit much after that amazing meal. All that being said, for me, the end of dinner coffee was the highlight. I don't know where they source their coffee but, wow!!! At the risk of under-selling it, this place is a real gem! Even though we got there just before closing, the people were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was comfortable in a warm, bright, and alive kind of way. The food was unlike anything else in the area and it seems this is one of very few places around that practice the forgotten art of true flavor craft. I can't say I was surprised that it was good but I couldn't have expected that my kids and I would pick up a new favorite spot to grab lunch. 12 stars! read more

I'm sure this gem is on everyone's radar in Olympia but if you haven't tried it yet I strongly encourage you to do so. Their pork bowl with red beans is the bomb. I don't even like beans but these beans I think about all the time they are that good... I drive from Tacoma for this food... so good. I finally visited Mi Luna after hearing great things about it for the past year. It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and I thought I'd have lunch there by myself. Everyone was nice, but I thought the food was unspectacular, especially the pork. I was expecting it to be a highlight, but it was dry. The food was generally bland and tasteless. The mojito tasted like a lemonade. Hardly any punch. I travelled to Argentina and Spain in the last few months, and I guess I was expecting flavorful food at Mi Luna. Went to the bathroom, couldn't lift the toilet seat up. It was secured to the bowl somehow. As someone who usually pees standing up, this meant that it would be impossible to do so without splashing on the seat. I could see that others had done just that. So I decided not to use the bathroom as I would have had to sit on the (soiled) toilet seat. I was about halfway through my meal, meditating on the various tastes, thinking I still might give Mi Luna a second chance. Every restaurant can have a bad day. I'm a local and always looking for good places to eat. But then something happened and it was just too much... As I was sitting, slowly eating and reading, making the best of a mediocre lunch, a server came by, lifted my half-full plate from in front of me and said, let me get that out of your way... And before I had a chance to say no, she was off with my food. It felt like they didn't know what a relaxed lunch was. Cuba is known for lazy lunches, and I had barely been at my table for 20 minutes. I think, they are used to a typical fast food place where people just transport food from the plate to their stomach as fast as possible. Someone sitting quietly, eating slowly, reading, reflecting. That's not their preferred type of person, I guess. They could have at least read my body language. I was eating about a bite every couple of minutes. I hadn't abandoned my food. Having already paid at the counter when I ordered, I just got up left. There was no use telling anyone anything. Dry pork, unmaintained bathroom, clueless servers. Had been wanting to try this new restaurant since it opened. We live 45 minutes away but it was worth the commute! The service is warm and inviting. The decor and atmosphere created just the vibe they intended- authentically Cuban. We went for lunch and ordered at the register when we were ready. We ordered the Mojo pork bowl and the Classic Cuban. Both were delicious. The Cuban was perfectly warmed and all the flavors blended beautifully. Loved the side of green sauce for dipping. My mother thoroughly enjoyed the pork bowl- so many wonderful flavors! The black beans were perfect. The pineapple salsa was amazing. And the shredded pork melted in your mouth. New place in downtown Olympia which we've been to 4 or 5 times now to sample their menu. Tried their sandwiches and entrees. Everything was amazing. If you need to try anything first, go for the Cuban Sandwich. The restaurant is super cute and never had an issue with service (a rarity for new restaurants, and a downright unicorn for Olympia). I had lived in a nearby apartment when the building was a subway and I tell you my mind was blown by the transformation of the place. As a cafe, the place is so cute. The coffees were refreshing, and the pastelitos are some of the best pastries in all of Washington. While they have a small menu, I would not consider it restrictive as much as I would consider it finely curated. The staff were friendly and the owner was so welcoming even to a small family with baby strapped to me. Had the classic Cuban sandwich, and if you've ever seen the movie Chef and wondered what Cuban food was like, you've got a wonderful opportunity downtown.
