    MINI CARBONADA

We love everything on the menu! Always receive a warm greeting. Once seated they hand you a card with salsa options. You pick 3 and they return with chips and your selections. If ever you need more, you just ask and they will happily replenish. Very cute decor, family friendly with a small sectioned off bar area. Tonight we decided on sharing the Mini Carbonada. The meats are flavorful and cooked to perfection. The beans were fresh, rice not too salty or watery and there were just the right amount of onions, peppers, corn and cactus. We got both flour and corn tortillas. Washed it down with Mexican Coke. It really is an awesome platter to share when you are feeling like a little bit of everything. We have come on Tuesdays for their tacos. Great value, they are not stingy at all with the meat. If you are in the area, make it a point to try them out. You will not be disappointed!

this place is okay, but not my #1 spot to go for mexican food. my fiancée loves this place for their drinks and carne asada tacos. as for me, i only eat chicken and i dont love their chicken tacos. it seems like its just grilled chicken, no marinating so i feel like the chicken tends to be dry. the rice and beans are okay, the beans were a tad bit watery in my opinion & they make them kind of spicy? the rice had vegetables in it which i found strange for mexican style rice

Great spot for amazing Mexican food. Tried the asada and birria and looking forward to trying their other dishes.

    Pozole was amazing.

Amazing food, amazing service. Don't sleep on this place, try it out. The wife and I found our new stop, that is for sure.

The service is horrible , probably due to language barrier . They messed up my order and told me they could not replace it because the food they made me would now be trash if I didn't take it . They just apologized and said they would not give all my money back just enough to compensate for the mistake. The food is bland , not worth the prices.

Llegamos durante Happy Hour y ordenamos una Paloma (Squirt Soda y Tequila) Las Paloma's y la comida estaban riquisimas. Buen sabor!

The food is so fresh and great, the authenticity is there even with the plating. Absolutely love the customer service when ordering and drinks (they have a bar sit in). The ambiance is peaceful and authentic. The margaritas and tacos 10/10 as well as the guacamole!

This is the one guys! This is the one! Authentic delicious Mexican food! We decided to stop by on cinco de Mayo as my usual Mexican place had a 3 hour wait. I'm so shocked at how underrated this restaurant is. Service: the workers were so kind and friendly! They were constantly moving and checking in on customers. Drinks: we ordered the corona margarita and they weren't anything special but good nonetheless. Food: The grilled elote was amazing, don't forget to ask for limes with it. The Chile Relleno was the best restaurant Chile relleno we've ever had! So flavorful and juicy. The Carna asada Gordita was perfectly made! The rice and beans were to die for! Overall, we will be back weekly! I'm so impressed by this hole in the wall Mexican spot. Hands down some of the best in Tacoma.

For a fraction of the cost and none of the wait that you get at Moctezumas I can eat here!!! Sooo delicious. Nothing fancy on the inside, but who cares when the food tastes as good as it does. Great happy hour as well. Their guacamole is SOOO GOOD!!! The first word out of my mouth after biting into my taco, while chewing, yes I know i clearly have no manners, was OMG YOU MUST TASTE THIS.

Everything was amazing. We ordered the platter for 2 And it was plenty of food Could possibly feed 3. The shrimp in particular was our favorite It was nice and flavourful seasoned perfectly , You can add on the shrimp to your platter for $10, elote was good, I would ask tajin next time, or drinks were great, service was friendly, I truly believe this a gem in the dirt. Location is in a kind of a low-key spot if this was more In a city center it would be more lf a hot spot, it was that good.

Is there a place where my kids could sit or is it 21 and over only (my daughters are 16 and 19)?

I bring my 6 yr old daughter all the time. It is a family restaurant.

It is a bit smaller, but food wise I will be back! We went for a dinner and it did not disappoint. Lines for the drive through are long, so we went inside to dine. Loved how sweet and patient the ladies were taking our order. You order your food first, and then they will bring it out for you. Little salsa bar, Coke drinks, huge flavorful portions will make you happy that you visited. I ordered the birria, and although I wished for more consommé, I think if you ask they would have given it. The burrito is epic. Overall so happy to have gone and enjoyed it!

We had adobada, asada and chicken tacos, added a side of fried onion and serrano pepper. The adobada meat was ok, chicken was good and our favorite was the asada. I didn't like the default salsa they put on the tacos, would've preferred just onion and cilantro. In fact I didn't like any of the salsas they offered, the green salsa was the only decent one and I'm sure the orange looking salsa was on its way out, it tasted and smelled funky. Customer service was great. We might come back just for asada tacos but maybe not.

The waitress took it back to heat it up again. It was slightly warmer but not by much. Then came our meal, chicken fajitas...again, it was lukewarm! The iron skillet it came on was not very hot and the food was not even sizzling on the skillet ‍ in addition to that, they no longer serve chicken breast fajitas...they only use thigh meat There were no utensils to pick up anything to put it on your plate (no spoons, tongs, etc.) . The restaurant was so dimly lit, we couldn't even see our food. We were not impressed at all and will never go back! We have recommended this restaurant so many times since January 2026 (we had it delivered while staying in a hotel and it was amazing), however we will stop doing that, as well! It's good that they are doing so well however. The parking lot always looks full. My last visit here was after a planned meal stop somewhere else fell through. I still wanted supper and I was in the vicinity and decided if I could get into Moctezuma's. I got in with ease (there was just me) and seated right away. I haven't had a taco salad in I don't know how long so I ordered one of those. I also got a small sized Spicy Cucumber Margarita. The taco salad was good, very satisfying as well as the chips and salsa that came along with it. The Margarita was great, very refreshing with the cucumber and spiciness blending together nicely. Service was prompt and friendly. I still have a good impression with what I had for this place from meals of several years ago and if you do precise timing (like early supper arrival time (4:30-5 p.m.) or lunch you are more than likely to find seating easier.

Our waiter, Mark, was incredibly attentive -- checking in regularly, keeping drinks topped off, and making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a meal memorable. We started with the Guacamole Sampler -- Traditional, Carlito's Way, and Austin Style -- served with warm housemade chips and their signature salsa. Every style had its own personality, and the flavors were spot‑on across the board. A fantastic way to kick off the meal. For my entrée, I went with the Seasonal Al Pastor Tamales, and wow... this dish is a true taste of the south. The ancho, guajillo, and achiote citrus slow‑roasted pork was rich and tender, perfectly balanced by cumin black beans, pickled pineapple, white onion, and serrano salsa. Every bite had depth, heat, and brightness. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Tomatillo Soup -- hominy, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chipotle, buttermilk crema, cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Served with fresh housemade sopes, it was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully layered. A perfect bowl for any season. We also shared the Navajo Fry Bread -- honestly, this should be listed under desserts. Warm, soft, slightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. The overall vibe was relaxed and inviting. It can get a bit noisy -- especially for someone like me who's hard of hearing -- but the energy is still warm and enjoyable. Cactus never disappoints. From the kitchen to the front‑of‑house, the team consistently delivers great food, great service, and a great experience. Hats off to the cooks and staff for another fantastic visit. We'll definitely be back.
