Not to be confused with its similarly named restaurant on North Broad, Osteria Ama is a delicious dinner spot steps away from Rittenhouse. It's also BYOB with no cork fee, so perfect to bring a bottle (or two) to enjoy with your meal. The restaurant's interior felt warm and inviting, with the faux fireplace playing in the back on TV and vines and lights drooped from the ceiling. There's an upstairs floor with customers, but my party of three were seated promptly at the entry floor. I can imagine being seated near the balcony would ideal for summertime meals when windows open. Service was excellent. Our waiter helped open our wine and took our order promptly, checking in frequently to clear the table, answer questions, and explain the Restaurant Week dinner menu. I felt that the $45 meal was a superb value! There were a lot of options available, so the only element was that it took time to commit on which dish per course. The Food Breakdown: Crab Bites (5/5) - They look small in the photo, but the bites were actually well-sized and filling because of their density. The fry coating didn't overpower the crab taste, and I always love a good chipotle aioli to complement. Lots of it on the plate as well as on top of the three you get per order. (Complementary bread service also comes with appetizers.) Ribeye Steak Flatbread (4/5) - My partner got this as her starter, but I enjoyed the quarter I tried from the dish. There's a good amount of beef, and the toppings made for a filling appetizer. The flatbread was baked well; I didn't feel that the crust was too dense or overdone. Chicken Parmigiana (4.5/5) - Nothing beats a giant slab of lightly-pounded, breaded chicken filet. Tasty and went well with the sauce. If portion size and value is your dining game, you can't really beat this. If nothing else, the accompanying pasta was just okay (but it's meant to be eaten with the parm after all). Spaghetti Fra Diavolo (5/5) - Wow! It's spicy, delicious, and the seafood was delicious. Courtesy of a few bites from my partner's entree, I loved the cook on the calamari. The spicy marinara base was also generous, without being too thick or overpowering. Tiramisu (5/5) - I'll admit, I was incredibly full by this point. But I did thoroughly enjoy the flavors. The coffee taste blended well and made for a solid dessert. While Philly has no shortage of Italian restaurants to visit, Osteria Ama made for a surprisingly pleasant visit. It boasts a more modern interior, but the hospitality still felt closer to a vintage friendly service.

Food. 5/10 - I've had way better Italian food. The pasta was just..bland? Mid tier. Not flavorful.. won't be going back Also got chicken parm. Portions are good but again, pretty subpar. Atmosphere. 6/10 Service. 6/10 Tips. Need reservations in advance if you want to dine in on weekends as it can get packed. Long line on Fri night. BYOB!! No cork fee.

Service was good, byob. It was very crowded, seats are touching each other. Too tight to eat comfortably. The food was just okay. Had the shrimp penne vodka and chicken parm. Chicken parm was very good! BYOB made the dinner much more enjoyable

Osteria Ama is the perfect date night spot! It provided the ambiance, decor and warm welcome from the staff. It was just we needed to kick off our weekend. We had a reservation for 5:00 but were slightly behind due to traffic on 95. I called the restaurant and the woman who picked up didn't even hesitate when I asked for an additional 15 minutes. It was nice of them to allow us to push back the time. Our waiter was quite pleasant and also funny. The staff made sure our glasses of water were filled to the top at all times. As a reminder, this restaurant is BYOB. To start, we ordered the arancini. Super tasty and just enough to satisfy two people. We split the third piece in half. The restaurant provides warm bread with an olive oil concoction. Delicious! My eggplant parmigiana was absolutely insane! It comes with two thick slices of eggplant perfectly breaded, and smothered with cheese and sauce. I could only eat a small portion of it so I had them box up the rest and it look me 2 days to eat it! The pasta on the side was a little bland, but I didn't mind. I added some salt and pepper to taste. The views from the second floor of Osteria Ama must be lovely, so I'll be sure to book my reservation for upstairs next time. I had a great time here and look forward to returning!

I shared the chicken parm rose and the grilled artichokes with a friend, both were good! Didn't blow my mind, but definitely good dishes. My two other friends shared a Caesar salad with chicken which was tasty. The service was not great. I had to ask several times in order to get a waiter to open my bottle of wine, and they were rude upon asking. They continued to ask to clear our plates before we were finished eating. Ambiance was nice, but nothing special. Overall, good place for a BYOB dinner if you're not expecting anything fancy.

I was visiting from out of town for a conference and wanted good Italian food- this place did not disappoint! It's a quaint little restaurant that was booming on a Wednesday at lunch time (so you know it's good!) the waiter was beyond kind and recommended my dish to me, which was absolutely delicious. Will go back when I'm in Philly again!

The Service was top notch, the interior was very clean, and I liked the modern Italian music they had playing. Overall I really liked the ambiance of this restaurant. They did a great job at getting our appetizers and entrées served to us in a very timely manner. The presentation of our meals were perfect. So why only 3 stars. I feel the sauces need a bit more flavor and that the portions could be bigger. I had the lobster Ravioli and I order it with scallops. 3 nice sized scallops that were cooked perfectly, the Ravioli was very tasty but I was not full after I completed my meal. I was left wanting more. The sauce was good but in my opinion I would have liked the flavor to have been more powerful. We liked our experience and we would go here again if we are in the area. I recommend you give them a try. Right a review and let me know what you think. P.S. It's a B.Y.O.A

How cute and cozy is this restaurant? The servers are so sweet and accommodating. The appetizers all had a special twist and they were all delicious. Our entrees were all good. We prefer more seasoning on our food than they use, but it was still good and fresh.

I had a solo lunch here and would rate it as a 3.5 star experience - not bad, not great either. I often tend to round up, but with all the wonderful Italian options in Philly, I'm rounding down to 3 stars for this review. This is a two-storeyed place but only the first floor was in use when I visited. A single server was managing the whole floor - he was super efficient and made sure no table was unattended for too long, but it also meant that there was a general sense of rush and urgency which doesn't lend itself to a relaxed meal. I ordered the risotto al limone which was a lemon-y risotto dish with shrimps and capers and topped with aragula. I was served a single bread roll with olive oil while I waited. The bread was nice and warm, I must say. The risotto arrived quite promptly. It was smaller than I expected. It tasted fine, but the limon flavor dominated the dish. There was no seafood flavor from the shrimps and the shrimps were completely tasteless - what a disappointment. For a $27 dish, I had expected a better portion or at least better tasting shrimps. I'd give this place another try if I were in the area again, but I wouldn't repeat this dish for sure.

Came to Osteria Ama for Philly CCD restaurant week and has an awesome time. I've walked by this place a number of times and finally was about to try. Our waiter was very cool. Graciously walked through the menu, taught a little Italian, attentive, and just overall pleasant to talk to. Food was pretty food. Selected Aranchini and the Crab Meat Capellini for the lunch courses. Capellini was flavorful with a little bit of a sweet finish. Really enjoyed this dish. The location felt upscale with light coming in. It was also pretty crowded so people know what's going on.

Cute place, reasonable prices, and good service! Highly recommend the chicken parm. It's only $24, has huge portions, AND come with a side pasta.

Great phone voice, by the way. We walked to the restaurant during the purported "heat dome" weekend. Fortunately, the air conditioning is pristine. We sat at the oyster bar and recommend you do so too. Our waiter was great. We should have caught his name but didn't. Either way, he was a real one. P spotted some absolute babe across the bar and asked our waiter what she was drinking. Important side note: attractive people dine here, but not in an intimidating way if you're a normie. Turns out it was a mocktail from the Zero Proof menu. We don't judge. Our waiter then turned us on to an OG move: order a mocktail and add booze. P got the Pink Drink and added vodka. J ordered a Bee's Knees and a Firing Squad. All above average. Anyway, we created an oyster flight and got two of each, working our way across the Eastern Seaboard. The house sauce was fantastic and incorporated some sort of onion and horseradish combination. We don't pretend to understand what that sorcery was, but keep doing it. Create your own GD oyster flight. You won't regret it. We also ordered some shrimp cocktail and shared the lobster roll sandwich. We forgot to take pics, but the generic photo attached is actually how it looks. Not a bad bite. This was the perfect amount of food for two hungover people who took IR Adderall before the walk. We lingered for a while and they don't push you out. Ended up ordering a couple IPAs. They started shucking oysters to prepare for the dinner crowd, which is neat to watch when you're on the spectrum like us. Also, the walls are covered in different oyster plates. We spent about 20 minutes discussing which one was our favorite. We landed on a green one. It's a real vibe lifter of a joint. Brought us back to life. 10/10.

Unfortunately, the service is what really brought the rating down. For a restaurant where you're spending around $50 per person, I expected much better service. My glass stayed empty for long periods of time, and it took forever just to get our waitress to come back to the table. I was dressed in sports gear since I'm visiting from out of town, and I couldn't help but feel like maybe we were judged based on how we were dressed instead of being given the same level of service as everyone else. I can't say for sure that was the case, but that's how the experience made me feel. The oysters were great, but when you're paying these prices, the service should match the quality of the food. Unfortunately, it didn't during my visit.

We celebrated my birthday there and I was a bit shocked when they didn't offer to comp a dessert, since most steakhouses usually do, but I didn't mind as it's not expected. Our second visit didn't live up to our first time experience. The steak we ordered was so raw that it was inedible. Luckily, we got 2 big entrees so we were able to enjoy one and take the steak to go and cook it a bit more to enjoy for dinner the day after. This third visit REALLY threw us off. First, we waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, we were seated in what is likely the most uncomfortable seat in the restaurant. You would think if you just made someone wait 30 minutes past their reservation, you'd maybe give them the bigger table that's available to get them back in your good graces. I will say most of the food was very good. We ordered the crab and artichoke appetizer which was good but not great, and for dinner we ordered the duck which was cooked perfectly and the ribeye which was also cooked well. I had mentioned it was my birthday at the beginning of the meal. Since I didn't receive anything with my last birthday experience, I had no expectations of a comped dessert. That was until the young lady at the table next to us received a comped baked Alaska for her birthday. When it was my turn for the waiter to offer a dessert we were asked if we wanted to order anything. We said no and asked for the check. When they brought us the check, they finally remembered we had been delayed half an hour and that's when they offered a comped dessert. Why is it that someone else got a free dessert for their birthday and not me? If you're going to offer that to one you should offer to all. Other than that, the service overall was very lacking. We were checked in on 3 times during the night whereas the table next to us received constant check ins. Not sure what that was about since we had the same waiter. We were also seated and ordered before the table next to us and they received everything before us. Appetizer, dinner, dessert and check. Not sure why this happened but after tonight's disappointing experience and overall food inconsistency I have decided not to dine here anymore. More for tonight's service than anything else. Disappointing and overhyped.

The taramosalata we had ordered as an additional item on a $65 per person set menu with options for your entrée. Unfortunately, it was very bland not the way it used to be when it came. It also did not come with pita which we had to ask for and both the hummus and taramosalata came in teeny tiny dishes, almost the size is what you'd put your soy sauce in at a sushi restaurant. There were four of those tiny dishes (2 of each item) for a table of 10. The next to come was the calamari and the spanakopita. Honestly, I've had better versions of this frozen from Costco than we were served last night. The calamari was not fresh and not homemade, there were no tentacles nothing but rings. It was also cold by the time we got it and par baked. The spanakopita were teeny, tiny triangles, smaller than what you'd even get at Costco and folded so many times in the dough that they were not flaky and honestly horrible. Nobody ate them. Next to come were the salads. That was probably the best course of the night. The take on a Caesar salad with dill was very good so was the tomato traditional Greek salad with feta. It would be nice though if they broke up the feta as there was only three large pieces of feta in there, and if anyone took one, then when you passed things down, the other people did not get any. Seeing as this was all served family style you would think they might have thought of that. Next was the main courses the options were a chicken dish, a fish dish, a lamb dish and a pasta dish. Honestly, the fish dish looked the best of all the dishes, but by the time the food got to us, everything was no longer hot. Five people ordered lamb dishe which was almost inedible. It was shredded meat from a lamb shank that was served in a tiny circular way like it had been molded into a dish and then turned over with some sort of strange sauce underneath it that supposedly was pasta. It was so small it might as well have been something that you would've gotten as an appetizer. Ironically, it was so bad that you didn't want to eat it and everyone left it on their plate. Personally, mine had shards of bone in it, which made my first bite extremely unpleasant and sadly my second bite did too, so I just pushed the it aside and did not continue eating. There was no option for dessert. They just brought down some sort of honey cake that unfortunately they didn't ask if anyone had allergies or anything which a lot of of us do so only a few could eat it, one person ended up taking the majority of the cake home with them. All of this went unnoticed by our server who was rude to the majority of our party. As mentioned before we normally love this restaurant but last night was not a good experience at all. It was extremely disappointing to be treated so cavalierly and as if our party was a downstairs was an afterthought.

The xtra dirty martini with Calabrian blue cheese stuffed olives - was prob the best dirty martini I've ever had. The food unfortunately sucked. Definitely not worth the price we paid. And it's a pricey place, but we don't mind paying for quality food and service. It was our 30th anniversary. Waiter was really nice to take off our unfinished sides, truffle fries and miso tossed broccoli. Broccoli was sweet. Fries were soggy and I couldn't taste the truffle. Steak was overcooked. Sauce au poivre was oddly sweet. Scallops were also in a sweet sauce and they potato puree for a lot of dishes, it got really boring to keep eating. Lobster bisque was meh. Chilean sea bass also meh. Tuna app was decent as was the crème brûlée. Would come here for drinks/happy hour if there is one. But not for a full meal.
