Caciocavallo Stuffed Meatballs. Act fast of you might not get one

OMG! Back again for two meals this weekend and I cannot believe it, but it keeps getting better each time. Always love the salads and the classic beet salad is an always successful start with a big smear of goat cheese, Tuscan kales slivered so carefully and chunks of beets and pistachio pesto with two slices of mandarins oranges to make a wonderful beginning. Delicious. We also tried a new entry in the salads Roasted eggplant. Absolutely fabulous. Life changing. The Smokey eggplant flavor with layers of flavors from smashed white bean spread, celery heart sauce verte with just a hint of spiciness and many more layers. Spectacular edition. We also tried the new hangar steak which was perfection. Perfectly portioned slices over roasted and pickled summer squash, onion soubise with basil chimichurri over the top a delight in every bite. The one night we also tried the bronzino on a great couscous. But the best was a new special menu item of crab tortellini. The flavor palette melted and changed in your mouth from pasta to cheese to butter to crab. An adventurous bite. And we loved being remembered for coming back. Thanks to Beth and Evan for the great service and welcome. And it's also so great to eat outside and see the world go by. Perfect summertime eating ambiance.

We had a really enjoyable dinner at Barbuzzpo. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent throughout the evening. Reservations are a good idea since it can get busy. To start, we shared a fresh goat cheese salad along with the following entrees , including short rib over polenta, mushroom pasta, grape leaves, and an octopus salad. Everything was flavorful and nicely prepared, and it was fun to try a variety of dishes. For dessert, we had the salted caramel boudino, which was a perfect way to end the meal--rich, smooth, and not overly sweet. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience with great food and a warm atmosphere. I'd happily come back and would recommend Barduzzo to anyone looking for a great meal in Philadelphia.

4 Stars feels low - 5 stars seems high. Overall a very enjoyable meal. Food was excellent. Here's the rundown: GRILLED HEIRLOOM CARROTS: Creamy, savory, fantastic SPRING VEGGIE SALAD*: fresh, tasty, elevated salad PAN SEARED GNOCCHI: show stopper, would order again 5 stars ROSSA (WOOD FIRED PIZZA): basic but excellent SALTED CARAMEL BUDINO: house specialty for a reason {small but really good beer selection} Service was attentive - maybe a tad too attentive but certainly well-meaning. *The only (very) slight ding, is that the waiter noted it was family style, but the portions were individual sized. We added on the salad b/c we need something else. I always thought 'family style' was larger portions shared by the table. No biggie. The room is not big a bit cozy. All table were taken but didn't feel cramped or chaotic. Overall - very glad I came to Barbuzzo and would certainly recommend.

Incredible meal on the street at Barbuzzo on Sunday! The pistachio mortadella pizza was actually perfect and so doughy, the grape leaves and accoutrements did not disappoint and the budino was probably a highlight. Idk how we will go back and NOT get the budino truly. Excited to try more pizzas !

The food. ‍ Downtown Philly on a Friday night. Group of 5 visitors in town for a.large conference. Searching at 6:30pm, couldn't get a reservation earlier than 9pm anywhere! Snagged and 8;45 slot at Barbuzzo and walked over 45 minutes early just in case. And boom! Come on back, the host said! Molly our server was great--energetic, polite, patient. We all got the Stracotto, and there was a side of carrots. I love love a mixture of flavors, colors, and textures, so I didnt leave a single morsel of the polenta, veggies, gava beans, or short rib on the plate. The vibe is cool, but think more bar than restaurant. It's a long bar---the length of the narrow establishment--with a short menu. But did I say it was delicious? There is just one line of tables running the length of the room, across from the bar. We were seated at the largest one, adjacent to the kitchen door, elbow to elbow. But we got through it with full bellies, fully satisfied. (5 stars for my food)

Really wanted to love the pasta at Barbuzzo, but this one missed the mark for me. The paccheri with pork sugo came out looking great, but the pasta itself was rock hard not al dente, but actually hard and undercooked. It honestly felt like a can of chili dumped over pasta that never fully finished cooking, which was pretty disappointing given the restaurant's reputation. The highlight of the night was absolutely the salted caramel budino, which was insanely good, rich, creamy, perfectly balanced between sweet and salty, and easily the best thing we had. Even better, the staff kindly gave us one to take back to the hotel, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. Service and atmosphere were great, but unfortunately the main dish just didn't deliver this time. Hoping it was just an off night.

We went in for an early dinner before catching a concert at the Academy of Music, a couple of blocks away. The internet lists this as Mediterranean, which is why I was so surprised the first smell to reach me upon entering was the smell of oven fired pizza. We were seated quickly and our server told us the food is served "family style with medium" portions. Despite this, we ordered as we would at any other restaurant and found it to be sufficient. We started with the stuffed meatballs which had a nice saucy flavor to them, with added peppers which gave them a mild kick. For our entrees we had lamb stuffed grape leaves, which were excellent and came with a healthy helping of chickpeas and tziki sauce on the side. We also had the stracotto which came with an incredibly tender short rib, a very well-paired accompaniment of vegetables, and cheese. I was on the verge of ordering a personal pizza as well, but was unfortunately full by that point. Next time we'll definitely be trying that and the dessert. There weren't many options for dessert, but after hearing folks raving about the salted caramel, I will definitely need to make a return visit.

Nice restaurant, if a bit cramped. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the entrees and made solid recommendations. The meatball appetizer came with just 1 piece of bread but we were able to request a second piece for our party of two. I got the grape leaves stuffed with ground lamb over chickpeas. Very flavorful and enough that I could share with my husband. He got a beef short rib with veggies, which was also enough to share, so we each got to try a bit of everything. Nice place, would like to come back to try their pizzas! Only thing that was slightly lacking was their dessert menu, but there are plenty of other options within a block to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Excellent meal for a large (30) group at this popular Philadelphia spot. Barbuzzo offers a private upstairs room for large groups. It's a rectangular room, open kitchen at the back, bar to the right. Tables are grouped together towards the front. They provide a portable coat check, which is a nice touch on a very cold nite for everyone's bulky winter coat. For a large party a slimmed-down menu is available, albeit with plenty of choices. Appetizers are served family style, and diners choose from one of 4 entrees and 3 desserts. Appetizers are delicious. Standouts include whipped ricotta; wonderful ricotta cheese whipped fluffy and adorned with a drizzle of olive oil and sweet/tart vin cotto. Perfect to slather onto crusty grilled bread. Also, seared shrimp served with a melange of blistered multi-colored tomatoes as well as steak fry-sized bars of crispy polenta. All served tossed in a basil walnut pesto. And tennis ball-sized meatballs - a little spicy - crowned with luscious sweet tomato sauce, served atop creamy, soft polenta. Hard to decide which entree to try because they all sound wonderful. I tried branzino, one of my favorites. A filet is offered here (not the whole fish) which is a nice change from having to navigate the whole head-on fish thing. It's traditional prep done right - skin on, broiled crispy, seasoned and cooked perfectly with the flesh slightly sweet, firm and moist. Impolite to ask for a bite of others' plates at a business function but the feedback about the other entrees was consistent.... Food well presented, hot when served, well seasoned, moist and tender. And we can't forget dessert! I tried espresso tiramisu. Creamy fresh whipped marscapone tops moist espresso-soaked ladyfingers, then adorned with crunchy cocoa nibs. Delicious, and a sizable portion for dessert. Shout out to the service team. Not easy to serve a large group but this team managed with ease. Everyone was served quickly. Everyone got what they ordered and it was all piping hot and delicious. Bravo! Definitely a great experience. Recommended!

Came back to Barbuzzo with a trainee after my initial visit on a Sunday evening 3 years ago. Pictured is the Calabrese Pie which he ordered and I ordered the Funghi which I thought I ordered on my first visit but learned it was another type of pizza. The Salad was the perfect size to share and both pizzas were solid. We actually sat at the long exhibition counter near the wood fired pizza oven. With two of the HH House wines the bill came to $73 without tip.

Great location, Easy to find. A low lighting relaxing atmosphere with metal chairs and benches for guests. I ordered the lamb stuffed grape leaves, it was okay for me. Our team also shared the mushroom Pizza, olives and whipped ricotta -- all really delicious!! The bread with the ricotta was amazing. The tiramisu, which I got to go, was great!

Stopped here on a whim for dinner. Our server was a delight... helpful and sweet. The food was delicious. I had the meatballs and summer squash arancini. Lights out. Friends had the roasted beet salad and margherita pizza and enjoyed both very much.

I recently had the opportunity to take the in-laws out for a meal in Philly. Was able to secure reservations for this establishment. The restaurant had a nice vibe and atmosphere. Love the rustic and hip feel when we walked in. Let's get into the dishes! Gnocchi, fennel pizza, and frites dish are amazingly delicious. Salad was also spot on. Drinks nailed it as well. They offer unique options for craft drinks. Normally, I'm not a gin person, but their current gin craft cocktail was quite refreshing. Summer vodka was also a delight to taste. When we finished the main dishes, dessert wrapped it all up and concluded the enjoyable meal and experience. Friendly and engaging staff members made the evening that much more fun and memorable. Older folks are usually harder to please, but they enjoyed the meal and experience. Great job with your drinks, dishes, and service! While we were only a party of 4, be great if we could secure a bigger group booking. But upon walking into the restaurant, I can see why it's a bit challenging to book a table for 14. Overall, you guys offer great food, service, and experience. Hope to visit this establishment again in the future. Cheers!

The moment we arrived, we were greeted by a bartender whose hostility was immediate and inescapable. His disdain for customers was so palpable that nearly every patron at the bar was openly discussing it, people were literally afraid to order drinks from him. He met every request with eye rolling contempt, as if our very presence was an imposition. Later in the night, when I ordered a drink from a different spot at the bar, he barked at me for doing so. Apparently that wasn't "how things worked here." Never mind that the bar was nearly empty and obviously unassigned seating. The pettiness was staggering. That was my breaking point. I called him out for his abusive treatment of paying customers.. Instead of addressing the obvious problem, a manager approached me with a threat: "We know how he is, but if you don't relax, you're gonna have to leave." Let that sink in. Rather than deal with a employee with an apparent pattern of hostility, they chose to intimidate a customer for voicing a legitimate complaint. Multiple patrons actually thanked me afterward, they'd endured the same treatment all night but lacked the nerve to speak up. I documented the experience on their Instagram. They deleted it immediately. This isn't a bad night...it's a culture problem. Paulie Gees has chosen protection over accountability, and their customers are the ones paying the price. Other than running to a drug store, my only other time leaving my hotel was to grab dinner at Pizzeria Vetri across the street. I enjoyed the food, the service, and the ambiance. I was immediately seated upon arriving to Pizzeria Vetri. I was asked if I wanted to sit at the bar, at a table, or at the pizza counter. I chose the pizza counter so that I could watch staff making pizzas. As I was there on my own, the serving staff continued to stop by and check on me. The menu includes neopolitan pizzas (12" feeding 1-2 people) and metro pizzas (28" feeding 3-4 people). They make pizzas, calzones, antipasti, and salads. I chose a Neapolitan-style pepperoni pizza consisting of pepperoni, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh oregano. It was quite filling and absolutely delicious! They also sell pizza kits so that you can make your own pizza at home. Pizzeria Vetri was created to celebrate the art of authentic pizza making. They aimed to create simple food made exactly the right way using the best and freshest ingredients served in a space where all are welcome. You can visit the Pizzeria Vetri website (https://www.pizzeriavetri.com) to order online, see menus, details about all four locations as well as to learn about classes, hosting events, and catering options. You can sign up for PV Perks at https://www.pizzeriavetri.com/pv-perks. You earn 25 points for signing up and one point for every dollar spent. You receive a $5 discount for every 50 points redeemed. They also have Happy Hour specials. I certainly enjoyed the experience and would go back again iid in the area.

One of our party is vegan and we told the waiter and he said ok great. As we sat there watching them create pizzas the amount of cross contamination was unreal. No one was wearing gloves and just digging their hands in raw meats, veggies and cheese. There was cheese I almost all the other biggie bins.

They also have high quality knives for sale. Ordering done at the counter. Tried two different slices: plain and cheesesteak. Dough and crust was great, crispy and light with a hint of char from the oven. Great cheese and tomato used. The cheesesteak slice is very heavy and an entirely different type of cheese, so not just a topping but its own separate thing. This was great though very rich. Good spot and great pizza, thanks.

I've been coming here since early 2023 - drunk, sober, and drunk-sober - and my review's overdue. Dean and his team work magic in their garden of pizza. There's lots of greenery inside, plants lighting up the space. Recently had their long hot special: hot sausage, long hot puree, and red onions. Went well with a side house salad (I prefer the house over their arugula salad). Scope out their offerings (always changing), and get what calls to you. In the mood for pasta? Pizzata is our top choice in Center City for artisanal, neighborhood pizza. While we occasionally…read moreorder from chains, this is easily our favorite local takeout option. Their plain pies strike a great balance between thin crust and traditional hand-tossed pizza. My wife prefers thinner pizza, while I lean toward something with a bit more structure, and somehow this lands perfectly in the middle. The large plain pie is also very fairly priced for Center City these days, especially considering the quality. A large plain pie with no toppings generally feeds about three people, depending on appetite size, maybe four if people are eating lightly. The garlic knots are excellent, pickup times are reliable, and the place always feels lively. They've clearly built a loyal neighborhood following. I look forward to trying more specialty pies, especially the Brooklyn Upside Down. What I appreciate most is that it feels like a real neighborhood pizza spot, not overly polished or trendy, just consistently very good. The pizza also feels a bit different from a classic New York-style pie in a way that's hard to describe but really works. We've ordered it in for friends and family visiting from out of town, and people are always impressed. Pizzata sets up tables in good weather for casual dinners with kids. It's also convenient that they're on the Slice app for digital orders. Highly recommend if you want excellent Center City pizza for takeout or a casual sit-down experience. Thank you!

While I can't speak for a bulk of their menu, I can say that I was left wishing I had ordered their pizza al' tagglio instead of the classic, "Queen Margherita." We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday night, not realizing they close at 9, and were among the last customers to order. So, a little PSA!!! Get there earlier if you're out and about on the weekend. The cashier's energy made it pretty clear the staff was ready to wrap up for the night, and unfortunately, that seemed to carry over into the overall experience. Our order took about 20 minutes to come out, and while the crust was addictive, the pizza as a whole felt lackluster. The sauce was your rather basic crushed whole peeled tomatoes that seemed hand crushed and spread thinly over the perfectly crisp crust. And I do mean perfect folks. The blobs of half melted mozzarella were randomly scattered atop like a Dalmatian's spots and despite the menu stating parmesan was supposed to be there, I saw no trace. Same goes for the EVOO. Once fresh basil leaves were scattered atop but lost their vibrancy since the had obviously been added to the pie before putting it in the oven. Rating: 7/10 (the crust is the savior here) All in all, I would absolutely give Pizzata another go. The Roman-style pizza gets a lot of love, and after seeing photos of some of their other pies, they've still got me salivating so I am not writing them off just yet. The Margherita may not have wowed me, but that crust alone is definitely something worth coming back for.
