Luna BYOB, 227 South 20th Street
    Thomas C.

-The Culinary Adventures if Tom Coghlan, Facebook- ... Luna BYOB, a well rated Italian Restaurant in the Rittenhouse section of Philadelphia, has been at 227 South 20th Street, since October of 2022, when the owners, Dejvi Furxhi and Denada "Dana" Cami, took over from their former boss's "Casta Diva," at the same space. Deivi Furxhi is the chef and co-owner alongside former Casta Diva colleague, Denada "Dana" Cami. I've never been to Luna, but is HAS been on my radar... I brough a bottle of Rose' with me, to play it safe. I met my server, Dana and asked her to put the wine on ice... I started with the Octopus Stufato. The Octopus was cooked in Vinegar and wine, then simmered with roasted Tomatoes, Capers, Olives and Long Hots. The Octopus was firm but tender and swimming with the roasted Tomatoes, Capers, Olives and Long Hots in the Vinegar/Wine Broth. The broth had a spicy but pleasant flavor, due to the Long Hots. For my main course, I asked Dana what she thought their best dish was. Without hesitation Dana quipped "The Pork Chop!" I was convinced! My friend was too! The Pork Chop was cooked in White Wine with Lemon and Butter and served with Polenta and Broccoli Rabe. It was WONDERFUL! My friend remarked that it was the most tender Pork Chop she ever had! I had to agree! Not only was it tender, but it was plump, juicy and perfectly seasoned and charred, with great flavor! Luna was a GREAT restaurant with exceptional service. We had a REALLY good time!

This Italian BYOB is so quaint. I have been here 5x since they opened and have already tasted their whole menu. My personal faves are the Calamari, the Bolognese, the Caesar salad and the porkchops!!! I have taken a few friends for a beautiful birthday dinner and Luna BYOB also makes a romantic date spot!

This is a small Italian restaurant in rittenhouse. It has a cozy and upscale vibe. I went here on a weekday later on and it wasn't too busy but there were customers. There was no wait. Noise levels were a little under medium noise. The complimentary bread+olive oil was very nice. I liked the olive oil and it came in a container so it was very easy to dip the precut bread. I got the calamari as an appetizer. This was good. The olives and capers were very flavorful. I also enjoyed the calamari itself. But I did feel like the calamari was a bit plain. Maybe there could have been some zest or something making the calamari pop more, but I did like this. The arugula pesto with crab chunks was decent. But I think I could nitpick a few things... I felt like the pasta was a little too chewy and the sauce also on the plainer side. I was thinking for a pesto there would be more of a pine nut or salty flavor. Also, the crab meat chunks were plain. I was expecting a more garlic or buttery punch but they were plain. Overall the service was excellent and I think the wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive as well as being friendly. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and prices were reasonable for this ambiance and ingredients.

Dinner was amazing here and they were able to accommodate our larger party of five! Pasta tasted fresh and all the different sauces were great. Menu leaned into a lot of seafood in the pasta dishes which is a little different! The staff was so nice and service was smooth and the room was packed! This is a nice date spot, a little spot for a celebratory occasion, and a solid neighborhood BYO :)

Experience: 3; Food: 4; Value: 3 Thought it's a new place but apparently been open for 2 years. It's a small spot so can't fit many tables inside. Unfortunately we got the outdoor table when it is already pretty chilly out (~50s), not sure if they just didn't set up the heating lamps yet as summer just ended or they don't have it at all (outdoor seating with no coverage), we brought blankets and were still cold throughout dinner. Plates were not heated when serving, so food got cold in mins outdoors. Servers couldn't quite see us from inside and didn't come out often, and seemed only 1-2 ppl manning across, so it took a while to get anything. Food came out quickly. Overall portions are quite small esp. considering the price. The calamari tasted okay, but only a few pieces drowned in tomato sauce. For pasta dishes, the pappardelle flavor was pretty good (normal bolognese replaced with ground lamb), but pasta was way overcooked (soft and almost soggy). The pesto cavatelli completely lacks flavor, couldn't taste much pesto or anything other than the dough pieces (which fortunately were not overcooked), only few drops of crab meat and tomatoes, we had to add in sauce from other dishes to gain some flavor. The special fish was our favorite, cooked to perfect temperature, on a bed of farro and broccolini, with nice sauce. Unfortunately due to the small portions and not wanting to wait in the cold, after 1 app, 3 main courses, all three of us left hungry to seek for warmth and 2nd meal elsewhere...

Entrees. Pork chop and scallops. Amazing.

Loved this place. Nice ambience. Small cozy byo (near Corked wine shop). The service is as good as it gets. Hostess was nice and greeted us immediately. The server was so cool and knowledgeable about the menu. The manager came by several times during dinner to check on everything. Really impeccable service. The portions were good too. We got two apps, a pasta second course, an entree each and we were stuffed. The calamari was tender, not chewy, and sauce was delicious. Heavy on the olives, but I really enjoyed the flavor. Great for bread dipping. The mussels app was one of the stars of the meal. The sausage in the white wine sauce created the best flavor ever. Highly recommend this app. The pasta was cooked very well, and the sauce was straight forward but very well executed. The pork chop was the star. While the scallops were also delicious, the pork chop had so much flavor. I could not get over how the seasoning was infused inside the pork chop. No idea how they did that. Highly recommend this places. Prices are affordable. Great for dates and small groups.

Came on a Saturday night with some friends and had a nice night! We got Caesar salad, squid ink pasta, gnocchi, risotto and lamb shank. Caesar salad - could use a little more dressing but the anchovies was a nice addition Squid ink pasta - I wanted to love this but the noodle texture was way too chewy. A little thinner on the dough and I think it would have been perfect. The sauce was perfect Risotto - this was delicious. Good amount of lobster too. I want a bowl of this rn Gnocchi - this was prob my least favorite dish. There was something in this that made it overly stinky cheesy. The sausage I wish was more of a crumble thank cut up Lamb shank - def not the best I've had but it was tender! Needed more flavors Our server was also a little abrasive. Kept asking if we were finished and could they clear my plate even though I had a fork full of risotto about to enter my mouth. I felt rushed and he seemed frazzled. But it was a Saturday night so I was forgiving creme brûlée was the perfect ending to a pleasant byob meal! I'd def come again

We went to Luna BYOB last night; I knew the neighborhood well, and didn't recognize the restaurant. I found out it just opened last year. I had the two specials of the evening - the Halibut and Raviolis. I like my fish and pasta served at the same time, enjoying both dishes, as they compliment each other. I wasn't expecting to encounter such unique and flavorful sauces on the fish and pasta. The creamy pear-pecorino sauce with the ravioli was spectacular as was the tomato based gravy for the Halibut. The pasta was tender and the cheese inside had a soft velvety texture. The Halibut was cooked perfectly - it was one of the best fishes I've had in awhile. My friend had the Branzino, which was very good.....but I'm glad I ordered the Halibut! Luna is a hidden jewel just off Rittenhouse Sq. - it's worth uncovering!

This restaurant is small but so cute! It's a very limited menu but the food was delicious! Unfortunately some rude fellow diner was a total Karen and scolded my friends and I for laughing with eachother and having fun which really but a downer on the evening, we were a large party of 8 on a Saturday night in a tiny room of course it was loud inside, the fact this lady really went out of her way to yell at us about it was really ridiculous, we weren't the only people laughing and talking in the place!

Luna is a small byob near Rittenhouse Square. Upon our arrival, we had to wait in the narrow hallway outside the restaurant, but at least it was indoors. Once invited in, we were seated in the back behind a wall which helped to buffer the noise. Fortunately, I asked our server about the specials, and when I learned they had one scallop dish left, I ordered it. To start, we shared 2 meatballs over polenta (an appetizer special) and the mix greens salad with strawberries, fennel, and orange. Both were good. I loved the 4 diver scallops with its sauce and sides. Likewise, our friend said the branzino with leeks, mushroom, and romesco sauce was the best she's ever had. Meanwhile, my husband enjoyed the lamb bolognese pappardelle but said the portion was small. Overall, the food was delicious, we loved bringing 2 bottles of our own wine, and felt the atmosphere was comfortable and conducive to conversation.

I actually celebrated my birthday here last year and this place is always a hit, never a miss! We started with the cucumber and tomato salad and the country bread, and what a delicious combination! We also ordered a side of olive oil, and they seriously have some of the best olive oil I've had in a while. I definitely recommend getting some on the side to dip your country bread in. Trust me! We paired everything with a pitcher of sangria, which gives you about four drinks and was much more economical than ordering individual cocktails. I finally tried the chicken Parmesan, and boy, am I kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The chicken breast was thick, juicy, moist, and perfectly crunchy. Some places make their chicken Parm so thin that it barely feels like you're eating chicken, but this was an actual substantial piece of chicken with the perfect bite. Our waitress told me I could swap out the pasta and sauce that normally come with the chicken Parmesan, so of course I did! I got the rigatoni with vodka sauce, and it was DELIGHTFUL. The portion was massive, so I took leftovers home and yes, I absolutely ate them the very next day! My fiancé got the branzino and wanted something lighter so he could help me with the rigatoni. His plate was beautifully presented, the fish tasted incredibly fresh, and it was exactly what he wanted. Overall, we had another wonderful experience. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll definitely be back! A special shoutout to our waitress, who was absolutely delightful and told me I could change the pasta and sauce with my chicken Parmesan. You changed my life! You have no idea how happy you made me. I wish I had gotten your name, but truly, everyone there is always so lovely. Thank you for another amazing experience!

The arancini was so decadent and the garlic bread came with a head of garlic confit - both were perfectly appetizers. We also got the shrimp pasta and lobster pasta and both were delicious! The lobster pasta was very filling, so I recommend the shrimp pasta if you want something on the lighter side. The service was good, but there was a wait both times we strolled by (Sunday and Tuesday), so would recommend making a res. The only caveat is that I would not recommend coming here with a party larger than 4 people, the restaurant is very small and rustic and can't fit a larger party. It was fine for us as we were able to push some outside tables together (and it was a beautiful evening), but I do wish we could have sat inside.

The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. This was definitely not his first, not his second and not his third rodeo he's definitely a professional at what he does. Upon review of the menu we started off with steamed clams and a spicy marinara and actually asked for fra Diavlo hence they gave it an additional hit of spice. It had a nice kick. It was very tasty. My wife was going back-and-forth between their signature lasagna and a little weak weenie with crab Bianco and in the end she went with the baked lasagna oh my goodness the size of that piece on the plate we took half home. I've never seen it like this before and it was extremely tasty. Very tender I would certainly get that dish again. And since I am not a pasta eater, I ordered a side vegetable of broccoli Rob. And we ordered a bottle of the Italian Montepuliciano wine, what was the perfect compliment to our dinner? And this was my birthday. I love this European feel. Up first, I had a $17 El Noe. I was hoping for a strong burnt mezcal taste, but nope. It seems like only Florida gets this drink right. The drink wasn't bad at all, but I was just looking for that burnt taste. I also had a $18 Dirty Pasta Water Martini, basically a dirty martini. It was fine, but it came in a micro grass which was kind of weird. Clearly this isn't a place you come for cocktails. Now, onto the star of the night, the food. Up first, the $16 Spring Salad. Loved it, hit the spot. Also, had the $17 Arancini. I really liked those little balls and especially the dipping sauce. I had the $26 Rigatoni. It was absolutely phenomenal. I could go eat it every day. My mom had the $24 Tonnarelli and it was also top tier excellent. The flavors, the atmosphere, the staff, everything here is top notch. The Internet did not let me down. I'm so glad I decided to book this restaurant. I had a wonderful night.

The antipasti we chose the crudo was not my style of sashimi pairing. They added a fish with something even more oily/heavy so it just made everything heavy and not light and fresh which I prefer. The rigatoni honestly was way too salty for my taste. With the focaccia that's mid...it was less salty. The rumps seasonal pasta was delicious and fresh tasting! The service however is amazing and the server gave the great rec of the seasonal rumps pasta!
