We were able to get a last-minute reservation on a Saturday night, and I'm so happy we did! We've been here a couple of times. I actually celebrated my birthday here last year and this place is always a hit, never a miss! We started with the cucumber and tomato salad and the country bread, and what a delicious combination! We also ordered a side of olive oil, and they seriously have some of the best olive oil I've had in a while. I definitely recommend getting some on the side to dip your country bread in. Trust me! We paired everything with a pitcher of sangria, which gives you about four drinks and was much more economical than ordering individual cocktails. I finally tried the chicken Parmesan, and boy, am I kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The chicken breast was thick, juicy, moist, and perfectly crunchy. Some places make their chicken Parm so thin that it barely feels like you're eating chicken, but this was an actual substantial piece of chicken with the perfect bite. Our waitress told me I could swap out the pasta and sauce that normally come with the chicken Parmesan, so of course I did! I got the rigatoni with vodka sauce, and it was DELIGHTFUL. The portion was massive, so I took leftovers home and yes, I absolutely ate them the very next day! My fiancé got the branzino and wanted something lighter so he could help me with the rigatoni. His plate was beautifully presented, the fish tasted incredibly fresh, and it was exactly what he wanted. Overall, we had another wonderful experience. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll definitely be back! A special shoutout to our waitress, who was absolutely delightful and told me I could change the pasta and sauce with my chicken Parmesan. You changed my life! You have no idea how happy you made me. Went for a work dinner with my colleagues and had such a good experience here!! We got the arancini, the garlic bread, and the shrimp and lobster pastas and all were perfect. The arancini was so decadent and the garlic bread came with a head of garlic confit - both were perfectly appetizers. We also got the shrimp pasta and lobster pasta and both were delicious! The lobster pasta was very filling, so I recommend the shrimp pasta if you want something on the lighter side. The service was good, but there was a wait both times we strolled by (Sunday and Tuesday), so would recommend making a res. The only caveat is that I would not recommend coming here with a party larger than 4 people, the restaurant is very small and rustic and can't fit a larger party. It was fine for us as we were able to push some outside tables together (and it was a beautiful evening), but I do wish we could have sat inside. read more

The gnocchi are yummy and melt in your mouth. Surprisingly where this meal failed me was the pasta. While visiting my sister in Philadelphia, and having grown up in New Jersey, I was looking forward to dining here because I'd heard good things. The food was genuinely very good. Unfortunately, the experience surrounding it was not. After dessert, I asked for an espresso, the server replied, "I'm sorry, we don't have espresso." I actually paused and said, "This is an Italian restaurant." She simply shrugged. Then I asked about bread. I was told it would be $5. Those two moments revealed more about the restaurant than the menu ever could. The name, the weathered awnings ,the old-world décor, and the carefully constructed atmosphere suggest history, tradition, and the warmth of an Italian family restaurant. But it's a façade--a carefully designed movie set, more reminiscent of a Disney version of old Italy than the real thing. "Little Nonna's" is especially ironic. Nonna is Italian for grandmother. The name evokes generations of family, tradition, and hospitality. Yet I learned there is no family history behind it--it's simply a brand. And no Italian grandmother I've ever known, whether in New Jersey or in Italy, would have served a meal without bread on the table or ended it by saying, "Sorry, we don't have espresso." The food deserves praise. The concept does not. For a restaurant that trades so heavily on the imagery of Italian tradition, it misses two of the simplest traditions that have defined Italian hospitality for generations. read more

Had such a fabulous dinner at Little Nonna's last night. I think it might be my new favorite Italian spot in Philly! The service was great and food came out piping hot, for which they get instant brownie points in my book. Let's get into the food: Garlic bread: 10/10 the roasted garlic is so simple to do, but makes takes a regular garlic bread to a new level. Olives: 7/10 nothing revolutionary, but tasty! Eggplant parm: 15/10 SOOO good! I loved the burrata and pesto mixed in with it. Caesar salad 12/10: the croutons were such a pleasant surprise. I believe they are made from polenta and they were soft and delicious! Branzino: my mom ordered this and rates it a 10/10! I got a small bite and it was superb. Sat outside in the garden and even with the heaters it was freezing. Everyone had their coats on and our food went cold within minutes. We had a reservation but when we asked to be seated inside they told us there was no space. But we literally saw them seat other people inside right in front of us who didn't even have bookings. Came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary and left feeling underwhelmed. The food was fine but nothing memorable. I did enjoy the highly acclaimed garlic bread, though the clams casino was just okay, my boyfriend said he liked it but didn't even take his leftovers. My Sunday gravy had a more home-cooked, authentic taste than most Italian restaurants I've been to, and the portions were huge. The cannolis were actually great, and that's coming from someone who usually doesn't like them. The biggest disappointment was the seating. We were placed outside in the back, right next to what was essentially a server entrance covered by a large shower curtain. I am so glad I listened to the reviews and got the Sunday Gravy, it was so much quality food and an economical option that gave a lot of variety. This is extremely mediocre Italian food served in extremely large portions. Nothing was terrible. Nothing blew us away. Everything had very muted flavors except for salt. As many of the reviews note, the food here is very, very salty. Pasta with Sunday sauce was a disappointment. Very little depth of flavor. An Italian lemonade was a ripoff. I drank a whole carafe. We came here at 8:25 because resevations go veryy fast! We got garlic bread, the squid ink pasta, gnocci, and the rigatoni. They were all wonderful but my favorite was the gnocci! The food portions were impressive, but the taste was disappointing. I chose the Sunday's Gravy, but it was surprisingly bland.
