Dining at Osteria Ester as the guest of Ronnald, who also brought his sister Teris, was truly a knock it out of the park kind of evening. I really, really enjoyed it. It was easily one of the best meals I have had since moving to Florida, and it has now earned a place in my personal top 20 restaurants to visit when I am in Orlando. You can feel that this restaurant is driven by the owner's love of authentic Italian food and a deep respect for quality. There is real history here. The story behind the restaurant is almost as interesting as the food itself. The name Ester comes from the grandmother whose recipes inspired the menu, and that sense of tradition is woven into the entire experience. I ordered the Radiatori Bolognese. For someone who does not typically eat pasta, it was incredibly satisfying. The meat sauce was rich, balanced, and generous enough for the portion of pasta served. It was so filling that I had to take half of it home, which says a lot considering how much I was enjoying it. The star of the night for me was the Caesar salad. The dressing was absolutely scrumptious. The anchovies were perfectly blended into a creamy, savory base that made the salad completely addictive. I honestly could have ordered a second one just for myself. The evening felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable as the three of us gathered and prepared our bellies for a long night at the opera. Wow! Fabulous new concept by the Good Salt group in lovely Thorton Park. The reimagining of the space is absolutely gorgeous. Warm and inviting with a reasonable noise level and gorgeous lighting. You could come here for a large family dinner or a date night. Or even sit solo at the great bar! Our server Maddie was perfect. Attentive but didn't rush us. She gave solid recommendations and didn't steer us wrong. Service was a level up for sure. It's a new space in soft open but there were little to no kinks left to be worked out. The cocktails we started with were excellent and featured beautiful craft ice. The focaccia is home made and was AMAZING. Do not skip it. We ordered a variety of entrees and everything was delicious. Only two knocks kept them from five stars. We were sat outside on a chilly Orlando evening and there were no heaters. It was too cold. Plus there was some Thorton Park pub crawl happening so there was a lot of traffic walking by with occasional smokers. I don't think this is in their control but it was a real turnoff. Loved the stuffed Castelvetrano with half parmesan and half cream cheese. That could have been an appetizer on its own, it was just that good! Caffe shakerato and my own custom calabrian chili vodka concoction was also wonderful. Got to taste the house-made lemoncello - mellow and delicious! Espresso paired perfectly with the cannoli trio. Me and the girls went for dinner. They had already been here one and insisted we get the focaccia and the short rib tortelloni. They also recommended the white Negroni, which was unique, with a white chocolate infused olive oil gin. Service was excellent. The manager even came over to ask how things panned out. We shared a bottle of wine and I had two cocktails- the white Negroni and their version of an espresso martini, which has orgeat and sambuca in it. Very interesting! The focaccia was a small portion- I would say one can serve 2-4 people. It comes w oil an vinegar dip on the side. The meatballs were meaty! A little shaved cheese on top and a lot of sauce. 3 meatballs. Yum. The carpaccio was great- the ladies loved it. It was standard fare for a carpaccio. The baked clams they also insisted we get - they come topped with diced pepperoni. Pretty goo, but I prefer just a standard clams oreganata. The pepperoni is fine but also it overwhelms the flavor. Good portion- ten clams. The burrata was pretty standard- tomatoes needed salt. I asked for a salt shaker when I had the chance. For dinner we split the short rib tortellini which was amazing, and the special which I can't remember the name but it was like lasagna rollatini. They did not go cheap on the ricotta. It was good. For dessert we shared the trio of cannoli (pistachio- the best one, amarena cherry- difficult to discern, and chocolate) and the butterscotch budino, which was fantastic. I told the manager that the butterscotch budino lacked crunch- it would benefit from a piece of butterscotch or toffee or something like stabbed into the top of it- the manager mentioned there were nuts on it to provide the crunch. Well!!! I just happened to miss the nuts because the girls ate almost all of them hahahaha. I did find one, and it did elevate the dish for me. But that dessert is absolutely perfect. We loved it. We would have gotten affogato but it was a week day and none of us wanted to have that caffeine so late. The restaurant is a bit dark and romantic, perfect for a date night. It's small and cozy and has some bar seating and outdoor seating. Restrooms are clean. Parking is awful - street parking or paid lots. No valet. Recommend reservation. Menu is limited but their focus is to do the items well and to have rotating specials. Would love to go back again. read more

What an amazing dining experience! I have seen and heard so many things about Osteria Ester so my husband brought me here for our date night! The aesthetics are absolutely stunning from the outside façade to when you enter the building and sit down. Our server Quinlan was stellar! She was very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations on what to get when I was stuck between two types of pasta dishes. For drinks we got an aperol spritz and a non-alcoholic amaretto sour (no difference in flavor from a regular one!), and for our meal we ordered the truffle arancini, braised beef tortelloni, gnocchi sardo with shrimp, and ended with tiramisu and a cannoli trio (chocolate hazelnut, lemon pistachio, cherry). Everything tasted great, and I have to say if you get the gnocchi it's definitely worth it to add a protein to the dish! We had our first date night post baby here and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated and very welcoming. They have a signature martini called the Cacio E Pepe 50/50 and it's made with peppercorn & Parmesan vodka, pasta water, and olive brine - it's their take on a dirty martini so we had to try it. It was delish, very unique flavor. Everything we ordered to eat was delicious; the focaccia, baked clams (dip the bread into the clam juice), the veal parm, lasagna (it's not traditional but absolutely delish), tiramisu may be the best in Orlando and the affogato with hazelnut gelato. I ordered their Pizette, Pesce Crudo, Lasagna Rotolo, Tiramisu, and Americano. Everything was delicious, and I recommend them all! Savory, briny, silky, and honestly one of the most creative and delicious martinis I've had. We also tried the tuna crudo, which was beautifully fresh. The mint and citrus brightened the dish perfectly, and the olives rounded out the flavor profile. For mains, we went with the paccheri alla vodka, think spicy rigatoni vibes, and the spaghetti alle vongole with clams in a white wine sauce. Both were fantastic. The pasta is also made fresh in-house every single day, and you can absolutely tell! Service was good and the atmosphere is beautiful. Normally, every restaurant from the Salt group is a 10/10 for me... then there's Osteria. I'll break down why this ended up being a 3-star experience. First, about three hours before our reservation, I received a text asking me to confirm my "outdoor table." I made this reservation a month in advance specifically because indoor tables were already difficult to get. When I questioned it, I was basically told it was "my mistake." It honestly felt like they were trying to push us outside due to demand. Second, the food was really disappointing. The focaccia tasted microwaved. The "melt in your mouth" wagyu was surprisingly chewy and lacked flavor. The pasta was just okay. The chicken parmesan was a massive Cheesecake Factory-style portion with almost no flavor at all. The one real highlight was the excellent wine list. Overall, really disappointing, especially coming from what I usually consider the best restaurant group in Orlando. read more

We went here on a double date and had such a wonderful experience! We started by sharing the focaccia bread, which was the perfect way to kick things off. For appetizers, my husband and I ordered the carpaccio, while our friends went with the crispy polenta, both were excellent choices. They're currently offering a special New Year's menu (while supplies last) with a truffle focus, so for my main I ordered the spaghetti al tartufo. The portion was generous and absolutely delicious. My husband chose the braised beef tortelloni from the regular menu. Slightly smaller in portion, but still very filling and packed with plenty of tender meat. It's located in Thornton park (literally on the same street as Jinya), and we were so happy we ended up coming here. First all off, the food was incredible. The focaccia was fire with the balsamic and olive oil combo. We also got some carpaccio which was Wagyu and had capers, also a great choice. I recommend their espresso martini for sure! The food was so good I didn't even get pictures of everything I ate. But some of my faves from the evening included the lasagna, the focaccia, and the crispy polenta. They know what they're doing here so def check the place out if you get a chance. I'm still dreaming of that lasagna. The fresh ricotta was out of this world!! Since it is in Thornton park, chances are you'll have to park in a garage or by downtown but the vibes were very grown and sexy. I loved all of the artwork and the service was great! We were really excited to try Osteria Ester, especially since it's part of the Good Salt group, which houses several restaurants we genuinely love. Unfortunately, this experience ended up being subpar and pretty underwhelming. We were a party of four and started with drinks: café shakeratos (2), margaritas (2), mezcal over a large ice cube with two limes (2), and mezcal with club soda and two limes (2). Things started off rough with the mezcal drinks. We specifically requested two limes per drink, yet the first round arrived incorrect (1 lime in the one with soda and none with the other). When we mentioned it, our server apologized and said she'd bring more. Five minutes later she returned to check on us and take our order -- still no limes. After asking again, she eventually brought extra limes. On the second round, we again reminded the server about the two limes each. A plate with three limes arrived, followed by drinks with no limes at all. This may sound minor, but attention to detail matters. When a simple, specific request is missed repeatedly across multiple rounds of drinks, it sets the tone for the overall experience. As for the food: Baked Clams: Not the classic breadcrumb-topped version I expected, but surprisingly delicious and one of the highlights of the meal. Braised Beef Tortelloni: Honestly horrible. The flavor was lackluster, and the pasta was undercooked. There's a difference between al dente and simply underdone. Bucatini Diavolo: Good. Nice level of spice, and the shrimp were large, plump, and well prepared. Lasagna Rotolo: Beautiful presentation, but the flavor didn't match the visuals. It leaned heavy on noodles with not enough meat or sauce to create depth. Chicken Alfredo: Very basic and forgettable. Broccoli Rabe: Overcooked, soggy, and missing the bite and texture this dish should have. Roasted Eggplant: Flavorless and mushy. Easily the most disappointing dish of the night. Cannoli Trio: The filling should be thick and creamy; these were almost watery inside, which was unexpected and disappointing. Overall, I'd be hard-pressed to return. Given the caliber of other Good Salt restaurants and how excited we were to try this new addition, this visit felt like a major letdown. Popped in early right after they opened to snag an open table in the bar area. The decor inside is fantastic. Down to the little detail in design on the shelves and photo. I love it. We ordered 3 different pastas to try. Pappardelle bolognese is one of my all time favorite pasta dishes so I had to try it, but this one fell a little flat for me. It wasn't bad, just didn't wow me. The diavolo was actually quite spicy in a good way. Didn't expect as much kick as it did. Enjoyed that. Our top favorite was the gnocchi sardo. Delicious. The gnocchi was smaller and thinner than I am used to which is a good thing because I normally don't like gnocchi. It's usually too fat and doesn't take up much sauce, but this gnocchi tasted very much like pasta and had ridges to hold the sauce. Would highly recommend. Went on a double date to this location. We are very excited about this restaurant since the salt group has so many other additional restaurants in Orlando that we love we walked in and the waiters and staff were super accommodating to our situation since we had two babies with us and made sure we felt comfortable at our table. We ordered some wine and some cocktails, and I was very excited that they had a Chianti Classico on the menu we then ordered a focaccia for the table. It was big enough to feed the four of us our friends end up sharing the lasagna while my partner and I got two different dishes. He got the steak and I got the alla vodka. He was very surprised by the taste of the steak and loved the sauce that it came with where I really enjoyed my pasta and could tell that it was fresh pasta handmade. Would be 5 stars if not for the gnocchi. Honestly wanted to give 3 but that would be unfair because of only one issue. Went with some friends and everything was very good. Service, atmosphere, the food- Burrata, carpaccio, clams, multiple pasta dishes...until the gnocchi. Whenever I hear house made gnocchi that's absolutely what I'm going to order. Imagine my surprise when the dish arrives and it's basically a small shell pasta. After dinner asked about it and was told, "Yeah we do it a little differently here, we don't use potato". THEN WHY ON EARTH DO YOU CALL IT GNOCCHI ON THE MENU!?
