    Gulai
    J G.

My personal favorite reataurant in Ashland. I ordered the gulai which was a delicious vegetable dish and I added beans to the dish. And I also ordered the fingerling potatoes which had hearty artichoke hearts included. Both dishes were really perfectly done, and very healthy dishes. Ok top of the food and waitress being nice their was a man playing guitar in the restaurant and he played the most relaxing peaceful tunes. A great experience and I will definitely be back!

Sunday Brunch was excellent. We were seated right away, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The Schnitzel Benedict was outstanding -- perfectly runny egg, flavorful hollandaise, and a delicious pretzel base. The Tarte Flambée is a must try as well. The homemade sausage, goat cheese, and vibrant berry sauce create a perfect harmony of flavors. Their coffee - flat white and espresso macchiato were smooth and well-balanced. Overall, it was a wonderful brunch experience -- great food, great service, and a warm, comfortable atmosphere. Can't wait to come back and try their dinner menu

They welcomed me back with friendly hellos and smiles. We stayed a long time for the Sunday night game night!! We played cribbage, Monopoly and sushi go. They kept us happy with pretzels, waters and the delicious Alasation Food. The chef came out to check on the food and told us he made the kids Mac and cheese super cheesy for them. It was delicious. I had the chicken thigh and beans from the kids menu and it was amazing. I thought it was just a bite but it was a full meal! I also had the salmon with celeriac puree and roe. Mouth watering. Every time I visit Ashland, I have come by since they opened and there's more delicious food! The menu rotates seasonally so it's amazing to try Chef Charlie's food! We even got a tour of the kitchen at the end. Highly recommend for a quiet dinner, date night or night out with kids. The restaurant itself is such a beautiful sight for the eyes. Julie is an artist so she brought together the yummiest color pallet and hosts a variety of of artists. This brings an extra special experience to the night.

Molly, Julie, Charlie, and their staff are wonderful, and you feel like family every time you dine with them. I've been a couple of times, and Nous is an absolute treasure. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed with warmth, intention, and an obvious love for craft -- from the design of the space by Julie to the sommelier-curated wine list by Molly. Every dish is thoughtfully and beautifully executed by Charlie, with flavor combinations that feel both elevated and grounded with local, fresh, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients. The wine list is a true highlight -- smart, focused, and full of small-production, terroir-driven selections that pair perfectly with the menu. You can tell a lot of care went into curating it, and the staff is knowledgeable without a trace of pretension. Whether you're a casual wine lover or a full-on wine geek, you'll find something exciting to sip. We are so lucky to have Nous in Ashland!

This restaurant is an absolute gem. The moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone for the evening warm, inviting, and beautifully detailed, from the table settings to the soft lighting and flowers that made each space feel personal and cared for. The food was extraordinary. The Foie Gras Partager was indulgent and balanced, the Moules Marinières brought richness and brightness in harmony, and the Coho Saumon Poêlé was a true showcase of precision and flavor. We ended with the Grand Marnier Soufflé, light and fragrant, a perfect finish to an exceptional meal. The staff added so much to the experience, guiding us through thoughtful wine pairings with knowledge and passion, making every sip and bite even more meaningful. And when the chef came to the table, it was clear how much care and pride he and his team put into their craft. This is a true testament to French inspired cuisine and a shining example of what Ashland's dining scene can be. We'll be back as soon as possible. And brunch is already at the top of our list!

Brand-new elevated classy restaurant in Ashland! This will be an in-depth review so the too long; didn't read version is a phenomenal and unique collection of drinks and food that you won't find elsewhere and is worth the try! If you don't recognize a dish, the staff is very knowledgeable and explain exactly what's in it. We were told the menu may be seasonal so we look forward to seeing what new items come and go and as they are currently only open for dinners, they are potentially evaluating lunch options - so TBD, but exciting! Nous is an Alsatian cuisine dining, which from a quick google search, is from the Alsace region of France that has strong German heritage and influence which matches the food presented. This restaurant breathed new life into this location with a pop of pastel colors inside. Opened just a couple weeks ago, they boast experienced Chefs and managers. While there are some small kinks, it is far more well-refined than you would expect for a newly opened restaurant and they have set themselves a high bar that I have faith they'll reach. BEVERAGES: As far as the drinks, they have great signature cocktails a solid collection of local wine and beer: some local to Ashland and the Rogue Valley, and some "local" to the Alsace region that this cuisine hails from. Some of our cocktail favorites where "The Alsatian swizzle" which was an herb based effervescent cocktail, and the "Hotel d'Alsace" which was a whisky base but cut with countreau creating an extremely smooth drink. We also tried the Leon Beyer Pinot Noir from Alsace, France and the "Weihenstephaner" which was a Bavarian beer. Both were excellent. And while it may be simple, they were very on-top of keeping our waters filled which is always nice. FOOD: The appetizers and entrees were the star of the show: the flavors were mesmerizing and the most important thing is they are so niche and unique that you cannot really compare it with any other venue around. With beautiful aesthetics came beautiful pairings, each dish having multiple flavor profiles but each melding well together. Working backwards, for the main courses: The crown is pigeon was lightly "gamey" while the texture was closer to a rare beef or duck than something like chicken. Both fish dishes (trout and black cod) looked incredible. We ended up getting the Trout with an Asparagus cream and it was amazing! On the appetizers, do not be mistaken as they appear on the menu as "L'entree" which roughly means dish prior to the main course, but to the unassuming eye they may thing it's the "entree" from that selection, the pine nut and Brie flatbread is delectable and melts in your mouth after having been warmed in their fire oven. Last but certainly not least the pretzel had phenomenal dips such as a very creamy cheese and horse radish, something unfortunately far too rare these days! Only critique we had is the desserts were very unique but maybe too explorative when you want something simpler to end the night. The pine nut brittle that gets delivered with the check however was so tasty, I practically wish I could order a whole sheet to take home! All in all- phenomenal experience and I look forward to coming back

I don't remember the name a kind of elderberry wine spritzer, was delicious and refreshing

We had a lovely dinner last night, staff was friendly and welcoming and the weather was perfect for sitting on the patio. We had the spaetzle with fall veggies and pork schnitzel. Both were delicious and portions were large.

The food there was super duper good. They also had a contest to name their animal that was painted on the wall. Their lemonade was great. Our waiter was really nice and they had excellent service.

I love it here, best food I've eaten in a while, I eat here about every 2 weeks since it's so good! My favorite? The albacore tarte flame! You can't go wrong with a pretzel pocket or the shinzel sandwich(to die for!). If you're in Ashland this is seriously a must, the place is ran by a wonderful group, big upgrade! Thanks nous!

Bar Juillet: Where Perfect Cocktails Meet Perfect Fried Chicken…read more Bar Juillet has quickly become one of our absolute favorite go-to spots in Ashland and Southern Oregon. It all starts with the best fried chicken you'll find anywhere in the region. Hands down. This restaurant and cocktail bar delivers on every front. The cocktails are crafted with real skill and balance, and their wine list is outstanding a thoughtful mix of local favorites and world-renowned producers that shows just how seriously they take their program. I've eaten here multiple times, and one thing you can always count on is consistency. The service is warm and attentive, the food is always executed beautifully, and the atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the night. They do get busy on weekends, so reservations are smart, but even if you end up waiting, it's absolutely worth it. And if you can grab a seat at the bar, do it. The bartenders here make it an experience all on its own. Reliable, delicious, and truly one of Ashland's standout spots. Bar Juillet never disappoints.

As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.

The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.
