We stopped in for a late dinner and go give osteria in surprise a try since the happy valley location is not our favorite. Service was good and our waitress was nice and friendly. She was also bartending and did a great job managing both duties. Alicia was her name :) The mozzarella was good and I liked that it came with pomadoro for dipping. My hubby was sad they were out of the scampi special but he ended up with the gemelli. The basil cream sauce was delish and so flavorful. He was thrown off by shrimp with tails left on being mixed into the dish but wasn't the end of the word (yes he ate one without realizing and stabbed the roof of his mouth lol). My pizza was good and it was different for me to try since I'm not a truffle fan but the black truffle cream sauce was good and balance well with the cheeses and mushrooms. We also got moose track gelato which is obviously going to be good. Our drinks were also made well and we loved seeing the white label Penelope as a bourbon options because we have never seen it out at a restaurant. It was slower in the evening but we did appreciate the spacious this location is One additional note- we honestly were very excited to see Sabi serving! She is a GOLDMINE in the city of Surprise! Jessica is our Server, super nice, attentive and very accommodating. The place is quite large, very open but clean and well maintained. Cocktails; Almafi Spritz-very refreshing, Gran Torino-Excellent and well balanced with all the different spirits that made up the cocktail, loved the large ice cube, nice touch Appetizer; Calamari Fritti-Lightly breaded, not tough, great homemade sauce and seasoned properly. Entrees; Gemelli, homemade pasta, homemade sauce with shrimp, very flavorful but filling, took some home for the next day, Linguine Alle Vongole; Excellent, homemade pasta and sauce with clams, loved it, no leftovers on this dish. The only suggestion I have is they should hand grind parmigiano/reggiano cheese table-side vs. a cheese shaker like you would get at Pizza Hut, just saying! OMG. I kept hearing about this restaurant and I don't even live here. So while visiting family, we decided to pop in for dinner on a Saturday. We were able to make a Phone reservation, which was very helpful since we were dining with a senior guest. I know everybody in town is a senior, but it is hard for them to wait. I believe our server's name was Sardie they were super friendly and professional. They had short brown hair and a bunch of tattoos, which was cool. We opted for two specials that evening. When was the chicken and the other was the Branzino. And then, of course we had the radiatore. Each of us also decided to start with the Caesar salad. It was delicious and the perfect size. The pasta was the star of the show with the short rib Ragu and creamy ricotta. We did enjoy the Branzino, although we felt it was a little overcooked and a little salty. Yes I know there are olives, etc., but it was a little salty. The chicken was also very good with both the breast and dark meat along with vegetables and sausage. The focaccia bread was also delicious and I recommend that you start with that. And then we finished off with a dark chocolate gelato, which was delicious. Overall, we had a great meal. There's parking out front, but it is a little weird directionally and if you have a limited mobility guest or handicap guest, you'll have to park on the opposite side because none of the curbs on one side of the building are ramps. Cool ambience although a little cavernous in my opinion, the manager came by to say hello, he was super sweet. I would definitely come back and try other items. read more

Nice little spot. Food was good but service was A+! Stephanie was our server, she was suuuper nice, as was everyone else we encountered. I asked for a veggie on the side to go with my daughter's Mac n cheese, so the chef personally came out to verify if broccolini would work, and if we'd like it cut small and sautéed rather than their normal way of preparing it. I got their weekly special branzino, awesome. I was slightly disappointed in the crème brûlée, I don't think the top was brûléed enough to my liking and still seemed like gritty sugar rather than a hard shell, but the overall taste was still great (and everyone else at the table preferred it this way). My husband and I had heard about this place and were genuinely excited to try it, especially because we don't get a lot of new restaurants in this area. We both love Italian food, so we decided to come here for his birthday as a special treat. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the beginning. When we first walked in, the ambiance was not at all what I was expecting. It's very "millennial gray" -- and I say that as a millennial. It reminded me a lot of the decor inside Toast. Obviously ambiance is personal preference, but to me it felt very bland and soulless, especially for an Italian restaurant. Once we were seated, we sat for about 15 minutes without anyone greeting us or even acknowledging us. It wasn't a particularly busy night, and we were seated out in the open, so eventually we went back up to the host to let her know we hadn't seen a server. To her credit, she was extremely kind and apologetic and immediately owned the mistake. Apparently she had seated us but hadn't let the server know we were in her section. We completely understood that they had recently opened and mistakes happen. Our server eventually came over and was also very nice and apologetic, which we appreciated. When ordering, my husband asked for a pasta recommendation because he likes pesto. She recommended one and mentioned that she usually gets it with chicken. He specifically said he wanted sausage instead. When our food came out, his pasta had chicken, so unfortunately his meal had to be sent back and remade with sausage. As far as the food itself, it was okay. Nothing was necessarily bad, but there also wasn't anything we ate that we were particularly impressed by or would rave about afterward. For us, it just wasn't memorable enough to make up for the rest of the experience. The most frustrating part came toward the end of dinner. I had planned on mentioning that it was my husband's birthday and asking if they did anything for birthdays, but it became incredibly difficult to get our server's attention because she kept sitting down at another table with two gentlemen and talking with them. I completely understand chatting with people you know or friends who come into the restaurant, but when it starts affecting the service you're providing to your other tables, that's where I have an issue. She was sitting with her back toward us for extended periods while we were trying to get her attention, and by that point we were already disappointed with how his birthday dinner had gone. It even took quite a while just to get checked out. I really wanted to love this place, especially because having another restaurant option in the area is exciting. I also understand that new restaurants have growing pains, which is why I don't fault them for every little mistake. Both the host and our server were genuinely nice and apologetic when issues were brought to their attention. Unfortunately, though, there were just too many service issues throughout one dinner for us to leave feeling like we had a good experience. Would we come back? Probably not. read more

We enjoyed a good Friday evening meal for the first time here at Osteria Mia in Surprise, AZ. I noticed when walking in that the seating here is very open with a cafeteria feel. There's not much to absorb noise, with no walls or noise-absorbing surfaces. There are tables and long booth seating as well as high back chairs and tables, and bar seating. Patio tables as well. This spot was packed on a Friday night and everyone seemed to be loving it here. We were told by the hostess it would be a 20-30 minute wait to be seated but got taken to a table in around 10 minutes. We had a great server, Stephanie! She was cheerful and fun. She gave me recommendations and helped me decide on a main course too. We ordered: - MEATBALLS to share to start - POMODORO, PARMIGIANO, CROSTINI. Decent tender meatball. Really enjoyed the marinara with fresh garlic flavor. Drool. - CAMPANELLE x2 - GRILLED CHICKEN, CREMINI MUSHROOMS, PEAS, RED WINE DEMI CREAM SAUCE, PECORINO. I absolutely loved this dish! Full of flavor. I adore peas and pasta. I also love mushrooms and pasta - a prefect marriage. Every bite of pasta was delicious. It tasted homemade. I asked Stephanie and she said that yes, indeed, the pastas are all made in house with exception to the gluten free pasta and the gnocchi. Hubs said that this dish didn't have enough flavor for him. My first time here since I live nearby and heard great things about it. The menu was simple which I like meaning they have specialty dishes, but they do well in. The atmosphere was chill the dining room looks like it was type of warehouse feel to it. But classy. The service was good. We ordered an appetizer two meals and a mocktail. I ordered the Short Rib Radiatore, Campanelle, Lupara, Americano Pizza, & the Truffle Fries. We visited this new Osteria Mia location about two weeks ago and were very impressed. Our server, Janelle, took great care of us and answered our various questions about the menu. We started off with the focaccia and the arancini. Both came out fairly quickly and were a hit. The sauce that topped the arancini was heavenly and made me want to get something with a red sauce for my entree. As such, I ordered the lasagna, which Janelle assured me was a great choice. It was a hearty slice and tasted amazing. My mother was really happy with her dish as well. We did not try a pizza with this visit, but we definitely plan to return and sample more of the menu. read more

The service, atmosphere and food were good. Place is very clean. Although I wouldn't recommend the stuffed artichokes, the rest is fantastic. We had focaccia, campanelle pasta from the dinner menu and the pasta forcing. It was a delicious. Pasta is all homemade and al dented. You can ask for the pasta to be cooked more if you want, but we were happy. The bread was to die for and the dipping oil was good. The pastas had some of the best sauce flavors I have had on the west side of the valley. For dessert we had Chocolate Gelato and Ricotta cheesecake. Both were devoured quickly. read more

First time dining at this location. Always heard others say food was good. They were right. We enjoyed their Bianca pizza, Frutti Di Mare, Short Rib Radiatore and Gemelli entrees. All were a delicious array of flavors to satisfy even the most grumpiest Italian. Spices and sauces a hit. The homemade pasta is the star of the show. We concluded with Pistachio gelato and the Crème Brûlée. Fine ending to a great Italian supper. All that was missing was bread. Italian restaurants are well known for serving bread with meals. Staff looked very busy. A look of seriousness projected on faces. Be patient. It's a large establishment compared to their other restaurants in the valley. Don't be dismayed when you walk in the doors. It may not look like an Italian restaurant. The smell eminating from the kitchen put me at ease. I hope they plan to liven up the place with a few plants and decor. Optics leaves a lasting impression. I gave it 4 stars because of their food which is ultimately the reason why we dined. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. A few people at my work mentioned it and so we went. The servers are what saved this place for me. Polite and gave recommendations since it was our first time. We got the truffle fries, arancini, margherita pizza and the tiramisu. We were going to get pasta because I read it was hand made. When we sat down the waitress told us about the pre made pasta. So it was a little confusing so we went with pizza hoping it was a safe bet. The truffle fries were pretty much McDonald fries with no seasoning. Relying heavily on the "truffle aioli" which there was minimal on them. My wife thought it was basically mayo squirted on them. The Arancini texture wise was pretty solid just a little bland for my taste but overall the best thing we ordered. The pizza was cooked alright but the basil appeared to be old leafs mixed with new ones and just big leaves on there instead of cut which I've seen on other pictures of theirs on google. When you look at other pictures of what people have got from them on google ours seem to have lacked any purpose when being made. Amazing from the very beginning before we ever got there!! We set a reservation for 6:00, but after a few people in our party had trouble figuring out if that would work, we decided to change the reservation (on a Thursday) to 6:30. They more than accommodated. Reservation set for 6:30!! Perfect! Half the party arrived 20 minutes early and that wasn't a problem. They made sure the table as ready and sat the first few to arrive. Offered drinks and apps and were super friendly!! Once everyone arrived, the great service continued. Our server, Jennifer, was amazing!!! She was very attentive and if she happened to be busy, the manager brought out shots we ordered and checked on us. All the food was AMAZING!!!! We got some apps (bruschetta board, fried mozzarella, & meatballs) and they were so good! Entrees were enjoyed by everyone...no one had a single complaint. Even the 4-year old, who tasted what was on everyone's plate, gave a huge smile and double thumbs up!!!
