Da Noi is the great Italian restaurant you might not know about. Situated on Montauk Highway in Islip, Da Noi serves Italian-American cuisine that competes with the best. Baked clams are my "litmus test" for Italian restaurants, and theirs are in my top 10. Their menu is insane! So many choices, so many specials each day, and a huge assortment of desserts. If you cannot find something to eat, there is something wrong. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar area is very small, so don't plan on spending too much time there before you get seated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their staff is attentive without being annoying, and their dining room is large and welcoming. Once seated, you are greeted with complimentary bruschetta and their ample bread basket. Two things I recommend ordering are their clams and if you eat rabbit, definitely get theirs when it is offered. Portions are huge and the quality of seafood is always fresh. They have a small lot in the rear of the restaurant, with both a rear and front entrance. I recently went to DA NOI restaurant in Islip on May 5th 2026 for my husband's birthday. We also had a friend with Us. Right out of the gate the male host was rude. He wanted my friend to sit in a certain seat and my friend preferred to sit in a different seat. The male host responded with sly remarks. My friend ordered a glass of Chianti and told the Male host that it tasted off. The male host told him it was not and begrudgingly brought him another glass. The wait staff acted like we were a bother to them. They were cold and distant, and did not make us feel welcome. The food was just OK. This was the second time my wife and I dined at "Da Noi". Both times were a gastronomical treat. The breads brought to the table are a sampling of four different varieties, of these, the Italian, was the most lack luster. Not because of poor quality, simply because of its ordinariness before the other three varieties. No need to ask for dipping oil, it was already seasoned and waiting for you on the table. We ordered the stuffed calamari and the polipo salad as appetizers. Be advised that the stuffed calamari is not a table order, only one is served, consequently, at most two can dine on this appetizer. We also ordered the octopus, which arrived warm and was served with arugula and a freshly sliced tomato and a sweet red onion. Delicious! Again, a word of caution, the serving is, at best enough for two. Please understand that this is not a slight, in fact, if any more were provided it would take away from the main meal, and this would prove to be a culinary sin! I ordered the "Black fettuccini with frutti di mare al fra diavolo." Except, I requested regular linguini and a mild sauce. At first glance, I thought the portion size of my entree to be lacking, however, as l began to eat, I discovered; to my delight; that there was almost more fish than I could handle. The entree was exquisite. There was no marinara at all, in its place was a light sauce that bathed the ensemble of different fish in a delightful, seafood broth that was flavorful and understated. To finish off the meal, I ordered an American cup of decaffeinated coffee and a gelato. The coffee was strong and hot, the gelato melted divinely leaving a rich chocolate flavor in its wake. If I could give this meal six stars, I would. To make the evening even more delightful, the service, from seating to dessert delivery, was exemplary. Take Aways: 1. Reservations are a must. 2. My boyfriend & I came to Da Noi on Friday night. I had tagged along on his work trip, and we always try to find a good Italian spot on our trips. It's kind of "our thing," since our first date was at an Italian restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful and there is even a cute patio if the weather permits you to eat outside. Very romantic. We were greeted by the most friendly hostess who was so helpful in recommending dishes and even pushed in my chair for me. She came by during our meal to make sure everything was good. She was so nice & helpful. Our waiter was equally helpful, suggested a bottle of wine that would complement both of our dishes. He was very patient and kind as we were very indecisive. There were so many delicious dishes to choose from. We decided on the Barese pasta to start off. So delicious with the sausage and homemade pasta. For main courses, we ordered the Veal Chop Capricciosa & Brit's Chicken. My boyfriend was initially questioning my ordering chicken, but after trying it, thought it was absolutely delicious. I was so excited to try this place out, and have a lot of experience with fine dining, but I'm sad to say they have missed the mark. Their overall approach needs a refresh and the menu needs editing. There are too many options, which is always a concern because that is impossible to maintain mastery of. Our experience validated that concern. The entrees were overcooked, under seasoned and there were a few items that seemed frozen rather than fresh. I started off with escargot & mushrooms so different so AMAZING!!..this was a departure from the usual garlic & butter sauce. My main course was Lamb ravioli in a champagne sauce..mouthwatering goodness. The ravioli was filled with lamb-no ricotta just the lamb..perfect!! Another diner has the halibut with clams & mussels another winner. We also had the Duck ragout with Al dente pappardelle. Da Noi in Islip is an old world Gem! Almost like dining at a private club. With a very active Bar scene this small Italian restaurant is our choice to bring friends. We were starved and decided to get 2 large pasta dishes to share as appys; Cavalli with Veal Rag and Squid ink pasta with Seafood...both delish! This restaurant is located on Main St in Islip Long Island. It's an Italian restaurant with inside and outside eating. They have heaters outside for outside eating. It's a real Italian restaurant feel and romantic. Although families eat there it's small and better for couples. You can also bring your dog for outside eating. A big plus. They have a separate bar. I went to Da Noi for the first time on Friday night. We had a table of 5, and the friends we went with go there regularly. They have talked highly very highly of this restaurant & wanted us to try it. It's a small place but it's nice, it has an old school feel. The wait staff was great & the drinks were strong. For appetizers we had the buratta, calamari, duck ravioli & short rib ravioli. Everything was beyond delicious, I would just suggest the prosciutto that comes with the burrata is cut thinner next time. For dinner, I had Britts Chicken, WOW! Thin crispy chicken cutlet, melted mozzarella in a brown sauce. It also had some sliced sausage. I would honestly order this again next time. My fiancé had penne Ala vodka with shrimp. The vodka sauce average, not good but not bad. The shrimp was over cooked which was disappointing. Wow! The service here was wonderful. Called on a Saturday at 5pm to try and book a dinner reservation for the same night. They only had a 930pm available left so my boyfriend and I took it. We showed up and they already had a table ready for us. We ordered a saint lucia higland pinot noir bottle for $65, which was fantastic! They gave us a variety of three different breads with a seasoned olive oil on the side to hold us over before our app arrived. The olive oil was delicious. For apps, we ordered friend calamari and burrata with proscutto and both were wonderful!!! Fried Calamari app was all rings, served crisp, and came with a side of marinara sauce with a few red spicys. I ordered the lamb chops med rare with mashed potatoe and asparagus. they were flexible with the potato and vegetable, which I was pleased with. The lamb chops came with a side sauce and both were amazing. My boyfriend ordered the 16oz bone in special steak and he loved it!! It's a beautiful, intimate space that gets traffic on a Tuesday night and with good reason. Stop what you're doing and get the lamb ravioli with champagne sauce topped with sliced grapes - what an incredible dish. Although the menu gives you plenty to choose from and marvel over, what gives you much to think about at Da Noi are the specials. I had a veal special filled with eggplant and a vegetable and it was something like I hadn't had anywhere else. We had octopus and a salad as appetizers as well, all absolutely delicious. The desserts were astonishing - we threw the pandemic out the window and rotated all of them. The service is high-quality and serious, prompt and professional, repeating all of those specials and answering as many questions about them as necessary. We ate at Da Noi on March 2nd, 2019. I'm sorry, but I was not impressed with Da Noi Italian Restaurant at all. I really don't like to leave negative reviews. I'm just a consumer eating food, taste varies and is subjective, and perhaps I really don't know what high-end Italian food is? For starters, our waiter was very terse. He rattled off specials, probably thirty of them, over what felt like 5-minutes. Come on! If there are that many specials, filter it down a bit with a simple question or two just to find out what our preference is. Moving on to the appetizers. We had the Vongole Casino. I love clams casino so much that I ordered two. What a mistake. By far the worst clams casino I have ever had. The pancetta was so soggy I couldn't tell if it was pancetta or bacon. Honestly, it was just raw meat. On top of that, I think they douse them with clam juice. All I tasted was sea water. So disappointing. For my entree, I had one of the specials. I don't remember the name, but it was a Tomahawk Ribeye Cowboy Steak? It came with this extremely spicy sauce loaded with peppers and oil. I remember the waiter saying spicy, but I don't remember him telling me I'd need a jug of milk after every bite. Thankfully the sauce was on the side as I was able to avoid it for the most part, with the exception of my spaghetti. I requested medium, but it was way under-cooked throughout most of the steak. See picture for reference. We waited well over 20-minutes for the check. We never saw our waiter after he took our food order, I don't know why. I'm guessing the main waiters handle all of the initial ordering and specials, while others serve, and follow-up. Eventually the hostess walked by, we mentioned we asked for the check 20-minutes ago, and she rudely said "You have to ask for your check if you want it.". No kidding? We asked three different people over the course. Either way, we spent $244.41, and I'm sure I left a ~$50.00 tip, even though the service was terrible. If you like Filet Mignon, you need to come here and try their famous bone-in version. It's a weekly special, I believe you can secure one ahead of time when making a reservation. It was one of the best bone-in filets I've had anywhere on the island. Much better then what I've gotten from the top steak houses in Suffolk/Nassau. The rest of the food I've tried here was pretty good as well but I think I'll be sticking with the filet each time I visit. read more

We ordered the gnocchi napoletana and fettuccini spinaci to share and both were very good with large portions. White table cloth tables set the tone with herb infused olive oil to dip the piping hot bread that came out in the bread basket. Small menu but ridiculously long soliloquy of the nightly specials that was longer than the printed menu. Just print out the specials so customers can review before choosing. Started off with stuffed oysters that was good but not great. Choose the special which was a pounded and rolled bone in veal chop stuffed with prosciutto, spinach and fontina. Came out boiling hot with side of delicious string beans and roasted potatoes. Had to be one of the best veal dishes I have had in a long time. This gem of a restaurant was a treat to behold. Very cozy inside. Nice background music piped in. Our waiter Gregory was courteous and knew the menu exceptionally well. From the extensive wine list of varying costs to the fresh seafood salad, to the perfectly prepared entrees, to the homemade desserts, we had a wonderful experience. The only thing I would suggest is that the daily specials be printed in addition to being described. There were so many delicious options that we found ourselves a bit lost as to a final decision.
