After speaking with Mitch he helped us make a decision based upon our needs, we purchased 2 units. A decorative stove for our main floor and a wall unit for our basement for emergency use only. I must tell you first off Osterman's had the best price around, I got two units with installation for under what competitors wanted for one unit!! One unit had an issue which was caused at the factory and without a blink they came out and serviced it. And not only did the schedule the appointment around me, the tech gave me a call with an ETA! When I call to schedule a gas delivery I am always greeted by the friendly staff! I have and will continue to recommend Osterman's to everyone I know!!!!! read more

If you want to deal with zero customer service, double the price of propane than other providers, and strong arm policies, Osterman Propane is your company! I have been a customer for several years, dealt with their poor customer service follow-up for convenience, but my last interaction is it with them. I called twice in the first week of June to have someone come out and move the tank due to zoning issues. I explained the emergency need, twice. No call backs, ever. So I contacted Suburban Propane. No only did they fix my problem, move the tank, but also came in at half the price I was paying Osterman. Half the freaking price for propane. They had everything done within a week. Its now July 9th, a month after I reached out to Osterman, and I called to cancel my account and was told there was a $250 tank pickup fee. hahaha. You can't make this crap up. Its $250 for them to come out, take their tank away because of their lack of service for their customers. Your company is a joke, and no wonder you have a 1 star rating across hundreds of reviews online. BTW, I will be disputing your $250 fee, and reviewing this experience across every online platform that will accept one. read more

DO NOT use this company. Their propane rates are WAY HIGHER than other compani Our tank ran low and we asked them NOT to come fill it while we saved up some money to pay for a delivery. They said Fine, no problem. Two weeks later we get a text that they have FILLED our tank with 321 gallons of propane. NOPE. NOT PAYING. I will take them to court if need be, but I'm not paying for something I did not order and specifically told them I did not want. In addition, they do NOT have any technicians who will come out to fix your equipment if it fails. They basically just want to steal from you and leave you hanging. Get your propane elsewhere. You tell them you want auto delivery but they never auto deliver. Then when you run out the charge you $200 to come out. One time ok I understand mistakes happen but now it's happened twice. You ask to review your auto delivery they say "Oh that's the customer service department I can't help you". The only times they've come out this year in 2021 is because I've called them when I've ran out. Isn't the point of auto delivery to not have to worry about this? Not only are their costs high but customer service is no good. Save yourself some time and go with another propane provider. read more

TLDR: overpriced with hidden fees, bad service, abandoned tank on my lawn 3 months ago. I've been with Osterman's for somewhere around 10 years. Their customer service was never great (or even pleasant, to be honest) and neither was their pricing, but I didn't use much propane so I only had to deal with them every other year or so. I figured it wasn't worth the hassle of switching to someone else. 2 years ago, I had my empty tank filled. After having some trouble starting my heater, I called to confirm that they did a pressure/safety check before filling it. Despite it being legally required and paying for it, their customer service rep said they "couldn't confirm anything over the phone, but would be happy to send out a service tech" as long as I paid their base rate and hourly charge ...to come out and perform the service I had already paid for and, in theory, just had done. This fall, it was time to get my tank topped off again. Remembering the issues I'd had with them before, I wanted to at least find out their pricing ahead of time so I could look into other options. After two phone calls with someone thoroughly saturated in idgaf, I still had no idea how much it would cost or how much more I'd have to be using to not have to deal with a low-usage charge. Uncas Gas was more than happy to give me up-front pricing. I obviously switched companies, and was just glad I wouldn't have to deal with them anymore ...or so I thought, seeing that their tank, with propane still in it, has apparently been abandoned on my lawn. So far I've been "promised" that it would be picked up "before the end of October", then "before thanksgiving", then "before Christmas", then "before January 1st", it's now more than a week into January. What was supposed to be 2 weeks at most has now been 3 months, so idk, I guess I have a new ugly, dangerous lawn ornament. The only saving grace is that at least the new customer service rep is pleasant. read more

I had good service and reasonable pricing from Osterman for 25 years. When Superior acquired the company, customer service ended and price rose a lot. Supervisors would not return numerous phone calls about service issues. I finally severed the relationship and signed on with Uncas Gas. Uncas welcomed me and said that I am far from the first to have recently become dissatisfied with Osterman. Osterman's tank remains on my property six months after service termination despite repeated phone calls to remove it. I would give Osterman zero starts if possible. read more

Upon receiving a statement I realized a payment I put in the mail immediately upon receiving a delivery from Osterman got lost in the mail. Thus I wrote another check emailing and enclosing a copy that informed Osterman of both check numbers and instructed them to only cash one of the checks. Osterman cashed the second check on 2/23 and then cashed the lost check soon there after (3/3). I immediately contacted Osterman, regarding the errors. My initial communications were ignored. I had to call due to emails going unanswered. I was put in touch with the Plainfield office. Samantha said she would put in the necessary paperwork to get the refund sent to me. After communications with the sales manager, Stacey, and now again today with Samantha, I was told it takes three to 4 weeks for processing. She said the check was cut on 3/26. That was 10 days ago. It has been over 1 month since I contacted Osterman about the double payment. Today I told Samantha that on my next delivery I will need 3 - 4 weeks to process my next payment and asked if Osterman would be okay with this. She said she was sorry but she does not make these internal decisions. I asked to speak to that individual. I was hung up on. $659.53 has been in their pocket and not mine since March 3rd. Terrible customer service. Be wary of their "smart-pay" auto-billing system, which is the furthest thing from smart. Despite voiced concerns about the monthly payment being adjusted too low, at the end of the year we would up with almost a $1,000 balance that we were told we needed to pay immediately. Then we're told we can extend payments with applicable finance charges, but two days later get a shutoff warning. This is on top of the fact that the auto-billing system is supposed to guarantee auto delivery. But we still wound up going completely empty last year and risked significant damage to our heating system. If I had the choice, I would not do business with this company at all. read more

We just moved into our new home and the previous owners had an account with Osterman and the tank was already installed in the yard. We thought it was the best move to at least get an idea of what the average cost would be since we are new to gas heat. We were given an amazing quote, impeccable customer service from the representatives on the phone and prompt service to get our tank filled on such short notice. The transition from the previous owners to us was beyond simple as well. My parents ended up without propane because of this company. They have an Osterman tank with an agreement with them that they will automatically fill the tank. Osterman never filled the tank as agreed and my parents ended up with no heat, hot water, and stove because of their incompetence. When my father called them at 7am to tell them that the tank ran out they told my dad that it would cost extra to come out. He called during normal hours and the person then told him that the tank being out was his fault and he should've called when it was low. My parents have a paid plan with them to prevent this. 24 hours after being without heat, hot water, or stove they finally showed up to fill the tank. There is zero excuse to miss a fill for my parents when they have a paid plan. It is there responsibility to regularly show up and fill the tank. These people rely on it to heat their homes, take showers, and cook their food in these winter temperatures. Look at their reviews all over the internet and you'll see that my parents have not had a unique experience with them. Avoid this company. read more

I purchased a new home in 2010 that has a 500 gallon propane tank owned by Osterman. I purchased the home with the understanding that the tank was mine. After purchasing the home and doing research I found that Osterman owned it and would not fill the tank unless I signed their agreement. needing propane I did so. As a result of y research I found that a premium is charged when the propane vendor owns the tank. The suppliers shared that is was to cover the cost of the tank. (This was confirmed by an Osterman employee within the last 30 days.) I reached out to Osterman to purchase the tank from them in 2012. They refused. last year by CT law all propane vendors must offer tanks for sale to their customers at "fair market value". When I contacted Osterman, I failed to get a reply. after three attempts I was told $2800 is what it would cost which is what a new tank today would cost. I asked that Osterman reconsider in that I paid a premium for the tank cost since 2010 and the people building my house paid a premium on propane from 2009 or 2009. Afterall I use more than 1500 gallons per year. I have paid in excess of $1500 if paying a premium of $.25/gallon and as much as $3000 if a premium of $.50/gallon was charged. Additionally the cost of the tank was less at installation. My Osterman contact said that he would review it with the appropriate Osterman management. After weeks of no response it took three calls for me to connect (even after voicemails). The response is that Osterman measures fair market value as the cost to put in a tank today. They do not depreciate the cost of the tank. Thus I conclude that Osterman is gouging and leveraging the customer to stay with them. I will not. They are gouging. BUYER BEWARE!! Worst. Company. EVER!! If we could give NEGATIVE 5 Stars we would! Ashamed to say we have been customers for many years, but certainly not out of any sense of satisfaction or loyalty. Whenever we've had to call their despicable "Customer Service" in the Plainfield CT office to dispute a bill (which is almost every statement because they LOVE to add "mystery fees"... Google other review sites if you require further evidence of this, they have all kinds of names for these ridiculous fees), the incessantly nasty people who answer the phone will rudely argue about why the new mystery fee is justified (it's not) and cannot and will not be removed from the bill. And they're never insignificant amounts, they're usually between $60-$80 and have nothing to do with the propane that was delivered AND PAID FOR. Also, after explicitly telling them on Day One we would ONLY be using this gas for cooking (thus the small tank with the direct line to the stove), they started charging us a $60 per delivery "MINIMAL USAGE" fee [read: they're charging us for something we have not and will not ever use]. Recently they came and disconnected our propane gas line, so we finally caved and paid their fee over the phone while the tech was still there, but she wouldn't call him and ask him to wait until the transaction was completed, and then she wanted an additional $75 reconnection fee for him to come back THE NEXT WEEK! Wait, WHAT? We are throwing in the towel and calling another gas company. Anyone who is reading this, PLEASE learn from our experience and stay far, far away from this company. Nobody needs this much added stress (and expense) in their lives. read more

I was looking for a new propane supplier in my area when I purchased my new home. The previous owners had propane service from a competitor who was nearly $1per gallon as the tanks were rented. Osterman provided me with rented tanks at a lower price per gallon cost. The switch was painless. They removed the competitors tanks and placed then aside safely for their removal. They were on time & delivered the services/propane as scheduled. The competitors tanks are still sitting here one week later. That should tell you everything you need to know about the other guys. I have a tank at my house that was there when I moved in from E Osterman Propane. The tank only services a gas fireplace used occasionally. This year last month I was charged a minimum use charge of about $80. The next month I need a fill up and the tank took 100 gallons for which I was charged 6.54 a gallon. When I called to inquire why it was so high, I was told it was the going price. I told them I got other prices that were in the $2.50 s gal range and was told those are introductory prices. I have family that have had Suburban Propane for years now and still pay in the $2.50 range. I call BS. When I told them I would call when the tank was low, I was told there is a $200 pick up fee. In my opinion, they overcharge and are not pleasant to deal with. When my tank runs low from this most recent fill up I will pay your $200 with pleasure to discontinue my service with them. read more

Let me begin with saying that I was a former employee of Osterman. I first worked with Ernie in the 1970s as a Hyster tank delivery driver and in the early 1990s as a Bulk delivery driver and found him to be a wonderful man. My wife and I moved to Minnesota in 1991 from Mass. where I worked at the Belchertown(Arrow Gas) and Palmer(E Osterman) facilitys. When we relocated to N.E Connecticut in 1998 we switched our Gas supplier to Osterman and have regretted it ever since. We had to request will call delivery's because they would deliver when ever they felt like it as well as running out when we needed it most . Since than they started an 150 Gallon minimum delivery. With that said the last 4 requested 150 gallon delivery's were over filled to the tune $ 300.00 +or - Than this past Mon. we requested a delivery today (Fri) we were suppose to have received our delivery. After being assured twice that we would receive our delivery we have not ! So do yourself a favor and find a supplier that wants to Service You ! not themselves. read more
