My original review still stands so I will add a bit to it. There is more diversity here which is good. More women and races other than Hispanic so I didn't feel any outward hostility like before. The cars are still good if you know how to search for them. They seem more expensive now, most cars go over $1K. The key is in the car but you can't start it. A few people did and it was enough to see if the car is a bucket so take that risk if you dare, they aren't going to kick you out over it. The are only Porta potties there so use the restroom beforehand. Be prepared to pay for your deposit immediately after bidding. If you don't, they will make a big deal about it. Know your limit on a car and stop bidding when you hit it. It makes no sense to overpay. It's best to have 5 well researched cars. The pictures show almost no damage so be prepared. Do your research on the cars. Unlike offerup or Craigslist, you don't have to worry about someone actively concealing some horrible problem. Yes there are plenty of lemons being sold, you see them on the side of the road, but I've gotten 3 cars here and all have minimal problems. read more

We donated a non-operational Chevy S-10 truck to a non-profit organization, and they have a partnership with Otay Auto Auctions for towing away donated vehicles & auctioning them off, with proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization & a tax deduction for the donor. Here's a summary of how things proceeded- Saturday pick up scheduled via phone confirmation. I let the employee at Otay Auto Auctions know we wanted this taken care of ASAP. When Saturday afternoon rolled around, we didn't have an update. I called to confirm pickup, only to be told the driver was busy/not available. No call from them, letting me know. I had to call to find this out. I arranged a pickup for the following Tuesday 1pm - 4pm. Not wanting the same outcome as before, I called Monday to confirm Tuesday pickup and make sure everything would be set. Tuesday, didn't hear anything from Otay Auto Actions, again. Called around 2pm, and was told tow truck broke down, and they need a couple hours to see if another flat bed tow truck driver would be available. No courtesy call from them, for the second time. I informed the employee if this matter wasn't taken care of that day, I'd cancel & seek another towing company. Otay Auto Auctions called me, informing me pickup would arrive 5pm - 7pm. Once the tow truck operator arrived, it was a pleasant experience. He had all the necessary paperwork to sign, and even though the S-10 had flat tires, with a little help from me, it was loaded on the flat bed, and was off on it's way. Only memories of driving it in my possession. Otay Auto Auctions refused to notify me of pickup delays, causing loss of time. It's a simple matter of calling/texting, and a matter of good customer service. If I were to donate another vehicle, I would choose not to deal with Otay Auto Auctions. Don't recommend. read more

This please needs to be investigated for corruption. We were bidding on a car earlier today and the auctioneer closed the auction immediately "seconds" after We we're outbid. We literally swiped the bid button immediately after being outbid and while doing so the auctioneer ended the auction and gave it to his friend probably. I have seen this pattern repeat itself on good cars. Where a particular person places a bid and they give it to him immediately without giving the rest of the people a chance to place bids. The car was a donation too. There job is to maximize the amount of money they get for cars and not favor their buddies by being shady. read more

They are scavengers. Shill bidding is in professional form. Good batteries are exchanged for bad and a battery salesman happens to be there to sell you back the good. They are ruthless and burdened with greed. Quick to blame the customer for their lack of integrity. Runs and drives apparently is subjective and often misinterpreted. Anything that can be stripped from the car that does not create a noticable detraction I'd promptly stolen prior to purchase pick up. read more

These guys of course with the help the auctioneer guy buy some cars that they already know that have good market value on line or on the floo sometimes they even mess with the cars to sound rough to be able to buy them cheeper and then turn them around and resell them in the next few auctions that they are going to have or selling them in the other auctions that are around the area or wholesale them to other dealers or customers that they might have. They even sell theor own running or none running cars as donated vehicle. And so many other scams. read more

I donated my car to the veterans and this company came to tow it from the dealership. The driver had a hard time finding the place even though the address was provided and he spoke to a dealership rep. I had my trunk opened so I can move my stuff to my other car and the driver started grabbing bags and taking them to my other car without a permission and without being asked. I got my expensive sunglasses lost. They also ask you to sign the car's pink slip on their name even though you are donating the car to a charity. I would not recommend this company. read more

I agree and second all the negative reviews. also what legit company only operates in cash ,no e-mail to contact them .the pictures provided are almost useless. unfortunately i was desperate and bid on a car online. they never mentioned back fees due to dmv and the interior could not be ascertained very well when I picked up the car I almost threw up it was so dirty.the title was provided allright, along with 3 transfer forms . I cannot smog the car needs engine work or something ,that same vehicle usually sells for junk and for a lot less so I was definitely shilled.I recognized the auctioneer from another auction I used to go to in Gardena,he was in training there I think. .This place makes it very difficult to get a deal with all the insiders working in tandem.lots of sabotage done to cars they want for themselves. I had the same issue as someone else posted 3 weeks prior. I put $500 deposit to bid on 1 car. When I went to pick up my car they said I bid on 2 cars and I would also have to purchase second car or pay a $200 drop fee. This is a complete lie. I did not bid on 2 cars. The car on bid on was nowhere near the 2nd car they tried to claim I bid on. I felt completely hustled and taken advantage of. The 2nd car even had a bad transmission. I was very careful NOT to press the bid button and stay clear of the green bid box unless it was the car I was bidding on. I had to pay the extra $200 "Drop Fee" so I could get the only car I bid on and not lose my $500 deposit. I only hope now that I got a reliable car for $2,000. Scammers!! process used to be quick and easy when auctions were in person and inspections were open. Now, they tell you to go online where malfunctions are ever present. I had to leave a deposit before bidding and when I went to bid website didnt register it. The inspection process takes a long time of waiting n line. And, they have babysitters that seem to try and hide the faults of vehicles. Staff seem rude and unhelpful. Youre just a drop in the bucket over here. read more

Don't go here!! The cars are in really bad shape. I recently bought a car and it had the odometer fixed so the miles weren't accurate. Also it had an oil leak, which i didn't notice at the time and it seems that they tried to cover it up so people wouldn't notice. I recommend people not to go here!!! read more

There is a reason they won't let you start the cars. I bought a US Marshall vehicle thinking it might be better than the donated vehicles. First of all they drove the car up and the tiny donor battery and engine were both smoking. I had to run to Oreillys and pay $200 for a new battery. Then I drove 7 miles and the engine stopped. I can tell you the price I paid was not low enough to cover the cost of replacing the engine. Plus I spent way too much time and money dealing with tow trucks and other crap as the car broke down on the way home. read more

Place is a joke. I do not recommend anyone go there. You can inspect the cars but oh yes, BTW, you can't look under the hood. An absolute trash pile here. How do they expect you to be able to inspect a car without looking under the hood? At the same time, all the cars, trucks, suv's and vans looked very rough. Tried to start about 8 different vehicle with no success on any of them. So you can't inspect the vehicles properly and they don't start and they look like they have been used and abused to no end. It is an auction place, like every other auction house, there are good cars and there are bad cars. It is the buyer's responsibility to make educated decision. Also you are voluntarily bidding on the cars, no one is forcing you to do so. I have bought 10-12 cars over the course of 2 months here and 2 of them had bad tranny. Was it bad, absolutely, but did I get a good deal? Heck yeah! Even after I had the cars fixed it still cost me less than the Craigslist prices for those models. I was thinking maybe I shouldn't have posted a positive review because you know, less people go there more chances for me :) but come on, they deserve at least a little bit recognition. During my visits there were over 150 cars on each time, so my guess is every week is pretty much the same, if there are only 4-5 complaints after selling 500-600 cars a month, it shouldn't be that bad. read more

I bought two different cars from there, one did not even make it home, the other broke down one week later, i took it to the shop and they told me the oil pump was bad since time ago, they just added thicker engine oil to keep it running to sell it without fixing it, it seems all their cars do not work properly. Be prepare you will have to do major repairs if you buy a car from there. read more
