Really good food. Mexican food elevated. Their Molote is absolutely delicious. I will be coming back again and recommending to my coworkers.

My fiancé and I are regulars at Oteo. We both love it there. The pineapple agua fresca is killer. The queso fundido is amazing. The asada burrito (secret menu) is great and so are their tacos and sopes. Everything tastes freshly cooked and made in house. Highly recommend the churros for dessert! We loved the food here! Big fans of the queso fundido, definitely a different take on your typical queso and chips but it was delicious! We could taste the care and love in each bite. My wife got the tacos with hanger steak and chicken. Beef was so tender and flavorful. She loved them! I got the Torta with hanger steak and it was fantastic. We had a big group so the service was a tad slow but they were very nice and even treated our whole group to their delicious churros! I definitely recommend this place! read more

I've avoided this place for a while, only because I like my Mexican food to be what others find cliche about Mexican cuisine in Utah: greasy, cheesy, over-the-top in portion sizes, relatively cheap. When I think "fine dining," I think French, American-new, etc. But I quite like Oteo, even if it's not typical Mexican or haute. I had the quesadilla, the beef taco, and the avocado dip, and all were delicious. The beef (flank?) was tender, the quesadilla was thick, the guac was "meaty." Was it worth the price? For me, it's a "go there every now and then" sort of place. I'm glad I went and do recommend it to those who aren't stuck in the typical Tex-Mex mindset, but as someone who is unabashedly in love with Tex-Mex in all it's greasy glory, Oteo is a second-choice ... I love Oteo. My go to is the Granny Salad, salmon tacos and the queso. Their steak and mashed potatoes is probably the most tender meat I've ever had. As soon as I get there I ask about the Agua Fresca and the cronut (they sell out early). read more

After all of its many forms, and old names, and ownership questions, and locations, and drama, you just have to sit back and ask one question: how's the food? It was the best thing I ate--a salad dish in 2013 (in a different iteration)--and when I went with a friend not too long ago, I once again thoroughly enjoyed every flavor. Queso was a must, and whatever tacos are on the menu and sound good to you; there's not a bad taco in the bunch. Well, the location is nice enough and I like that it's not overly formal. They're not giving the stuff away, but you pay for the taste, I suppose. I think it's best described as really casual nice dinner, or a really nice casual dinner. It's a little niche. It ain't fast casual. It's dressed up Mexican food, not quite gourmet, but built with tastes and flavors in mind. What started as grabbing a bite to eat in between a wedding ceremony and reception turned into one of the best dining experiences we've had. We had the beef and pork tacos, at 10.50 a piece the tortillas were great, meat tender, but nothing special. They were both very saucy and fell apart easily. The plantains were a bit better, but overly mushy. Pretty slow, relaxed environment and friendly staff other than the chef staring us down the entire time. read more

Imagine Mexican food, but thoughtful. That's how I'd describe Oteo. This is not your run of the mill, bottomless chips and salsa Mexican food joint- this is something totally different. And that's not to say that it isn't every bit as warm and inviting as your favorite locally owned Mexican food place- the decor is homey, the colors are warm, and it feels like you're in someone's kitchen. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is definitely casual. But that's where the similarities between this place and a typical Mexican restaurant end- the food complex, professional, and delicious. The menu is pretty straight forward and simple- you have a few appetizer/salad options, and 4 entree options that are customizable based on your meat preference. My husband got the steak empanadas, I got the pork molote, and we shared the queso fundido as an appetizer. The queso was totally unique and tasted wonderful. The pork on my entree was perfectly seasoned, and I loved the cabbage topping. I am a native Arizonan, have lived in Latin America, and love Mexican food. I loved that this place took all my favorite parts of my favorite, less fancy Mexican food restaurants and somehow made them 10 times better. As an added bonus to the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonable, and a great option if you want high quality food on a budget. This place really blew my expectations out of the water. I didn't expect much seeing how small the restaurant is, but it really was a great experience. As regulars of Manhattan Restaurant in Orem, we've been keen to try Oteo across the street. Tonight was the night! We arrive to a similarly minimalist decor as Manhattan, with a more intimate lighting and a bit larger venue. Lauren commented that it feels "comfortable and homey". As with Manhattan, we intended to focus on the service and the cuisine, which is where our expectations were high. We were welcomed to sit where we wanted as we arrived, and were greeted with water and a rundown of the menu. We ordered the queso fundido as a start, and it was a smart way to begin the dinner. The queso was fresh and hot, and as expected, the compliment and diversity of flavor was amazing. The notes of sweet and heat blended well in this dish and Lauren and I loved it. For our first entrees at Oteo, Lauren ordered the Molote with Pork, and I ordered the Empanadas with Beef Tender. In a word, "delicious!" The pork and the beef had rich flavor profiles, cooked perfectly, and dressed with complimentary toppings and flavors. Lauren described her molote as akin to "trying your favorite Mexican food times ten!" Coming from someone who spent two years in Central America, she was elated by her entree. My empanadas were perfect. The beef was tender, cooked ~ medium, and the serving size was appropriate. Lauren and I loved this meal, and we already have some ideas about what to try on our next visit! The service was wonderful and the experience was exactly what we were hoping for! 10/10 read more

90+ minutes for 6 tacos and a salad? And you don't have chips and salsa? We spent nearly 2 hours here to get a couple tacos is for lunch! Ridiculous. The tacos were actually pretty decent, everyone enjoyed theirs but I'd never come back here based on the service and the wait time. It's TACOS!!! There is absolutely NO reason making lunch should take this long. When walking passed the kitchen to bathroom we saw a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store sitting out, still in the package. So apparently they don't even COOK their chicken here? The menu SAYS Organic Chicken!?! These people are full of crap, who knows what you're eating here. Clearly the chicken is rotisserie chicken from Costco - it's the Kirkland brand as shown in the attached photos. THEN - Another 30 minutes for dessert? What a joke. This is basic! I'd be willing to bet these desserts are purchased frozen and reheated. The cook was in the back shredding up this chicken with no gloves and one of our party had to make an emergency run to the restroom. This place COULD be really great, but, it's not. Too bad. The cost for all this GARBAGE? $75 dollars?! Just pass on this place. Absolute worst restaurant we've been to in Utah. Wasted a good part of our day here. I loved everything about this place. This is not your ordinary Mexican restaurant. The unique dishes and flavors at this place is insane. I got three different types of tacos (avacado, chicken and steak) and they were all divine. We got a salad to start with and it was awesome as well. It's so hard to explain because these are flavors I've never really tasted before. It was a cool little place and I'll for sure be going back. The waitress was pretty forgetful but I didn't let that ruin my experience because the food was just that good!!! We got a couple of desserts and I loved the flavors of both. I was a tad disappointed in the Cronut. The ones I have had in the past at other places are super soft and flaky. The one at this restaurant was very hard and crunchy, although it did have a delicious custard in it. Overall, this place is straight 10's. Can't wait to go back. Went back again yesterday and I was pretty disappointed. I wanted to try my tacos again, but in empanada form. Not good. The Avacado empanada is WAY different than the avacado taco. Why?! That's so strange to me because it doesn't say there's a difference anywhere on the menu. They added jalapeños and TONS of salt. I couldn't taste any of the flavors because the salt was too overpowering. I will NOT be getting empanadas again. Tacos are way better. If you check in, you get a free dessert. Homemade churros were AWESOME!! I'd get those again in a heartbeat. Had to lower my review to 4 stars because of the disappointing empanadas. Sad! read more

I come here every so often with my husband and groups of girlfriends. I feel like the most popular dishes for us are the steak taco, avocado taco, pork empanadas, and the fruit bowl (under greens). My girlfriends also typically order the queso appetizer. Last night I tested out the shrimp taco and it was unbelievably good! I'm actually craving one right now. A friend and I ordered the churros for dessert, one for each of us and both of us had completely raw dough inside all three churros. Beef taco with apple strips dipped in lemon and jalapeños. The beef was great! The toppings were weird. Avocado taco with beets, radishes, cheese, a LOT of sour cream, and a tiny bit of lettuce. Avocados and cheese were delicious. Everything else just didn't do it for me. My boyfriend got the chicken taco. I don't know what was on it, but I wasn't willing to even try. Honestly this place was hyped up and after trying it, I don't know what all the hype is about. I got the tacos, pork and hanger steak. The pork one was okay needed salt and too greasy, the steak tasted super old. Took one bite and couldn't eat any more. The service on top of that sucked, two servers standing around talking, and no one came to check on us. When they came to finally give us our check the sever seen we had each only had a bite of steak taco and when asked didn't want a box. Didn't ask if there was something wrong or nothing. We were recommended Oteo's from my sons nurse and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small but hip and adorable The menu is simple and easy to manage. You get low prices yet a high class presentation that you'd get at a swanky restaurant. They were so kind to offer us a delicious appetizer of Platano Macho and we absolutely loved it! The flavors weren't what we'd expect but were pleasantly surprised. My mother and I split the hanging steak tacos and the Molote. Molote has got to be my favorite!
