I was initially impressed by the layout and character of this place. The building itself is beautiful--there's so much history here, having once been a hospital and a movie theater, and you can still see those touches throughout. I especially loved the stairs; they add a lot of charm to the space. The menu, however, felt overly large, and I couldn't help but think it would benefit from being cut in half so the focus could be more on quality rather than quantity--because unfortunately, the food didn't quite deliver. The pepperoni pizza was not good. The pepperoni was burnt, and the crust was extremely dry--honestly reminiscent of cafeteria pizza. The mozzarella sticks were also disappointing and tasted very much like something straight from Sysco. The bruschetta was easily the highlight of the meal. The crostini was crispy and buttery, and the tomato topping was fresh and flavorful. I ordered the angel hair pasta with shrimp, which was overly creamy, and the shrimp itself was bland. On a positive note, the vegetables had a nice texture and were cooked well. (I was busy taking photos of everyone else's food that I forgot to focus on my own--oops.) The cocktails were also underwhelming. My Tuscan Mule lacked flavor, and the Manhattan was especially bad--watered down with tiny slivers of ice. A couple friends, my wife and I decided to eat this local, long tenured restaurant during the recent art festival. The patio was shaded and inviting, so we sat there. Great spot to people watch and light traffic even when street is opened. The interior is "1970's fancy" Italian feel, and I appreciated keeping the architectural elements of the historic building intact. The restrooms were clean with old school decor. It honestly felt like stepping back in time. Our server was adequate given how busy they were. We ordered Italian beef sandwiches (available only during the festival) and spaghetti. The Italian beefs are not what you get in Chicago, so a bit of a disappointment. The pasta salad was very flavorful, and my wife said the spaghetti was fine. Decided to try Othello's after 7 years of living in Edmond. We are already big fans of Around the Corner next door - same owners, we've heard. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised. The Caesar salad was really delicious. The chicken parm we ordered with fettuccine alfredo instead of spaghetti and both hit the spot. In fact the chicken parm was some of the best we've had! We also tried the "Garfield special" aka the lasagna. Really delicious. Service was attentive, ambiance was cozy and quiet - the music stopped about halfway through and it definitely added to the experience, though. We'll be back for another date night soon. The place itself is cozy and adorable with a mix of high class but also casual. There's plenty of seating and a full bar as well. Parking is also good with angled parking in front on the street and additional parking in the lot in the rear of the location. Service was okay, not too bad but definitely could be better. We ordered appetizers of fried calamari and bruscetta. The bruscetta was good. The calamari came with cocktail sauce, which was odd and was very pale for being fried. My husband is the only one who eats it and thankfully because the portion was so small. He says it was okay. For dinner I got baked ziti and the sauce itself was very flavorless, but the ziti and mozzarella were cooked to perfection. My husband got stuffed shrimp with crabmeat stuffing- it was like 7 little shrimps! He said the crabmeat was good but the portion was not efficient. The portions in general were very small- especially for Italian food. I ordered a frozen peach bellini and it was delicious. I will say we were super hopeful for this place because it came recommended from many Oklahomans. It sadly missed the mark for us. Charming restaurant. We went as a group. most of the food was good. the short eib ravioli in a mushroom sauce had a great flavor although a bit doughy. i know they were aiming for al dente. Saw one of those triangular signs stating they had a mushroom penne and so got that, as well as the ravioli. The antipasto was also great. We moved to Edmond 8 years ago and Othello's quickly became our favorite restaurant. A few years back the service and the food took a big turn for the worse and we rarely go back. Tonight we had our granddaughter with us and that is where she wanted to go as she likes the mozzarella sticks there the best. Surprise for us Jake our server did a fantastic job and the food came out hot and good. Jake checked back with us several times to check on us. We didn't even have to ask for a box for take out as he had one waiting on us. If you find yourself going to Othello's I would ask for Jake to be your server. Decent service, good food, and a fantastic atmosphere. If I was at a Disney Italian restaurant it would feel like this. The customer specials are great, especially the pink sauce mix. The ambiance of this location is perfect for a date night but they also have plenty of seating to accommodate the food. Overall I thought alot of the food lacked seasoning from the complimentary bread to the main pasta dish I had. A friend has the JK chicken which they also said lacked a bit of pizzazz as did my tortellini Diablo. The showstopper was definitely the coconut cream pie at the end of the meal! My girlfriend's Polla a la Tammy was extremely salty so much so that no other flavors were present. I believe the chicken was poorly seasoned and cooked. She was unable to finish it. Great food! We arrived alittle after they opened at 4. Seated in the main level at booth by stairs. Asked about candle for our table but told due to fire Marshall it didn't have one. Felt left out since all others booths and tables had one! Next time I will request diff table. They are the cool ones that have all colors of wax dripping down sides. Lol from my Hippie days. We were brought the best bread with seasoning on top with butter. So good, that when he asked if we wanted more, I had to say NO. Like a kid I would not eat my meal. I ordered the Greg's Lasagna Suprema. Had loads of meat and Italian sausage. Alittle higher prices than the reg lasagna they offer but worth it for the sausage. Pat's special was saturated with a spicy marinara to the point where you couldn't even taste the peppers and onions. A delicious Italian dinner with a very kitschy vibe-very old Italy style I love it! We tried the fried cheese sticks, eggplant parmigiana with sausage, and chicken Alfredo. Half price pizzas Sunday evening! My family called in some pizza on Sunday evening to go and even to go order pizza was half off. The pizzas were huge! If you like to eat the crust of your pizza slices then you will love theirs or even if you like bread. The food is decent, and the desserts are pretty good, and the wait staff is okay, but don't bother making a reservation because they won't honor the time. If I hadn't of been with a large group (9) with my 95 yo mom I would have left. Absolutely horrendous service from the hostess and ownership. I got nothing but a mouthful of excuses from the hostess, and quite frankly, I don't care what your issue is, I had a reservation for a large group with a couple of handicapped people, and you didn't honor my reservation. If I wanted to stand around in a cramped waiting area for an hour I wouldn't have made a reservation. I don't care what your problem was, you made it my problem and that is unacceptable. The flippant attitude of your hostess did nothing but aggravate the problem. You need to fix it, and if you can't, you need to stop taking reservations for large groups. read more
