I had just arrived with my family to the Island and was stuck in quarantine. My wife turns 30 today and is a huge cyberpunk fan. I had contacted the store hoping they had something in stock, and got an email back right away. They went above and beyond to make sure that my wife was able to get her present, and were so very helpful and kind to us! This is exactly the kind of family feeling you want from an FLGS and why Amazon and the like just can't replace a brick and morter place. If you're a huge marvel, dc, image, dynamite, or even a dark horse comic fan, this is the place for you. The figures had the the perfect pricing, nothing was too overpriced or too underpriced. The comic packs were a bargain, they had whole series for $20 or less. I didn't get much marvel or dc comics because I'm trying to get into new comic characters and I'm glad I went here. After moving to Honolulu, I had to find a new neighborhood comic book store for my geek fix. I found the nicest people at Other Realms, formerly of Ward Warehouse. With the future development of that complex, Other Realms preempted their eventual removal by finding a new location. The change is an excellent one! The new location is on Nimitz highway right near Best Buy (and can be accessed through Best Buy's parking lot). The area is surprisingly quiet, but in a location sure to get traffic. The store itself is much larger, brighter, and obviously newer than the old location. The layout is welcoming and colorful. There is also a ton of floor space to having gaming tables right in the middle of the merchandise. They have two extra game rooms as well! There is plenty of food in the area and other shopping opportunities. The staff is knowledgeable about what they sell- which in this case translates to pop culture and other fun topics! The store focuses more on games (tabletop, card, RPGs, etc.) but also has a healthy comic selection. As many customers I'm sure do, I have a box for my orders that I can pick up at my convenience. It's always easy to add or subtract books from my order through social media or phone. The store keeps long hours, which is helpful when finding time outside of work. Other Realms is also known for their game events, which I know they plan to bring back and expand as they settle into the new location. My son had wanted to get a new Axis & Allies game to add to his collection. None were available at Target or Walmart or at another hobby store we visited - credit to them for pointing us to Other Realms. We found six different Axis & Allies available here. The owner/staff were helpful, allowing us to browse and asking if we needed help. The one staff we spoke to knew much about the game and the info she shared helped us make a decision on which box to get. This is going to be our go to place from now on for board games. Great place. My wife and i buy games from here quite often. Very helpful staff. You can try games and someone will show you how to play if the have the game in there sample shelf. Games are priced as is on amazon and haven't seen any game price jacked up. Be prepared to be there for awhile because they have a huge selection. It was a great place to check out as the staff are super friendly, and the shop has an array of items from cards, games, comics, models, paint for models, and a few action figures. I swear I left a review for Other Realms but it looks like I didn't! I must've thought "there's no way I haven't" so I didn't bother checking. But really... I have no idea how I haven't! If you're unfamiliar, Other Realms is a one stop shop for comic books, geeky merchandise, table top games, and role playing games and figures. I used to come here when it was in the old ward (thankfully they moved) and it's even better than it was back then - more space, more products, and room for table top games. Everyone that works here is awesome and I think the best thing about it is the occasional events they have like meet & greets, signings, and occasional cosplay events! I was looking forward to coming to this store unfortunately the gentleman working near the entrance had a poor attitude. My son opened the door and I came in after, upon entering the gentleman behind the counter gave my son this look like he didn't belong there. I ignored and entered anyway, I wasn't aware all customers entering were required to use the hand sanitizer. The gentleman working gave me a look and rudely said use the hand sanitizer. Came here for Friday Night Magic and had an absolute blast! I've had some bad experiences with Friday Night Magic at some stores and was worried but the staff was really helpful. My friend and I got paired with an awesome play group of regulars that were very helpful. The games were fun and always interesting. This is my favorite hobby shop on island, i pick up most of my D&D minatures here and the customer service ive recieved since day one has been exceptional. I really enjoyed chatting with Eric and Nichole about their D&D stories. They're both down to earth and very knowledgeable when it comes to table top RPG style games. This is my local comic shop. It's also a table top board game shop, but they have all the new issues of my Spider-Man or Captain America. These cats who work here know what comics come in and what sells out. I was at the register and mentioned I couldn't find my new Captain America, and the dude with the colored goatee found it for me qik and brought it to the register. These cats know their comics. People who take the time to read for pleasure, people who make the time to take photos of their friends, people who have the time to create things to give to their loved ones. This should be everyone. So if you are not this person, you should drop everything and pick up a comic book. Just pick one, any one if you don't like that one, pick up another one. Chances of you finding the perfect comic are 100%. If not, you need to read more books. Other Realms is magical. They're located perhaps in a serious, other realm, because unless you're looking for it. You will find it. Or if you somehow get lost from Best Buy or on Nimitz Hwy. They're this store located behind the building you see on Nimitz with Sensually Yours and Triple AAA - it's in that building. They have everything you need to keep your cards in mint condition, updated volumes of your fav comics. Random, independent comic books for cheap. They have loads of things for fans of all types or animation, super heroes and Star Wars. I feel what they provide are endless. The staff are straight up cool. They know the place like the back of their hand so feel free to ask someone for what you're looking for! There's also table for tournaments and I even saw a back room. T'was a hot day in Hawai'i nei of about mid 90's and we were contemplating on what to do during this unbearable hot day on the aina. A couple genius friends of mine were not up for watching movies. We just finished eating and are fresh out of ideas on what to do. Thankfully I am accompanied by board game fanatics and an idea came up to have a nice indoor game at Other Realms. All I can say is, "Wow, what a different world!" As I walk into this place with multiple walls of comic books, board games, figurines and collectible toys, other items of all sorts and DVD's, my jaw was dragging on the floor in shock of what I've been exposed to. I was given a grand tour by my friends. They also have multiple rooms where they demo games so you can sample games played by other game board fanatics. These people are like you and me but probably know how to play most games in the market. Tuesday nights are game nights and a chance to meet other cool players that are just as curious to play new games or are demoing at the same time. If you play 40k, you will want to join in on the fun as they also have a separate room (huge room). My friends brought their own games and we played until we lost count of the hours. This is a great place for people of all sorts, families and kids from 7 years of age to octogenarians (yes I'm serious). If you can learn and no matter how slow, you're fine! I've been back to this place not only because of my friends but because of the friendly people that work here. A nice couple owns the establishment and are very personable and are very knowledgeable. They checked on us to make sure we were okay or we were still friends at the end of our game (LOL). They made us feel like we're at home. I love coming here! The regular customers that come here are friendly as well. They don't make you feel inferior just because you are new at learning a game or are slow in learning (that's me!). I've been coming to this store for comic fix for quite a while now and I mainly continue to do so because the location has been very convenient. Selection wise, they do pretty well when it comes to the trade paperbacks and usually new releases. I say usually, because there have been times when they've run out or were shorted in a delivery and that usually means you'll get your missing book(s) in a week or so. Parking is definitely an issue. As mentioned in other reviews, there is a parking structure nearby, but stalls are limited. And be aware of any special events they have going on! I've dropped in on new release day for Magic The Gathering and a signing or two and it is a mad house! Now for the reason why I'm giving a 3 star review for a place I've been coming to for years? Customer service. For me personally, it is hit or miss. Certain staff are very engaging and will talk about what's going on in this comic or that, maybe even give a suggestion or two about what else to pick up. Hell, I've messaged them numerous times online about adding/taking off comics from my pull list and generally that works out fairly well and civil. Other times it feels like I'm a piece of sh*t that just ruined someone's day for attempting to pay for my stuff. Oh, you know it when you see the look in a person's eyes. Am I a bum? I apologize if my presence offends you I guess? Or the person just looks at me with a vacant look, like eh. No hello, hi, thanks, see ya later. Nothing. I should take into consideration that I'm lucky I was even rung up I suppose. I've even had multiple experiences where the entire staff is engaging in a rousing conversation with a customer and... no one at the register. So all in all, convenience is keeping me around, but customer service of late is really making me reconsider this. Sad. read more

This place is like the Cheers Bar - Where everybody knows your name . The owners/staff are personable and friendly and they really know their stuff! They treat you like they'd treat a guest coming over for dinner. The store is located right behind Best Buy on Nimitz. It's clean, well organized and comfortable. They host game nights and welcome any and all gamers who want to learn any given game. That's where we came into the picture. We are a family of geeks who love comics, Star Wars, Marvel, cosplay and all things geek. We visited their booth at the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con and my son took interest in the Star Wars X-Wing game and bought a set from them. He brought the game home and tried to learn how to play through YouTube videos and tutorials but he still had questions. So my BF called Other Realms and asked for advice. He found out that X-Wing players come on Thursday nights and that we were welcome to come and watch to get a better idea of the gameplay. We get there that Thursday and the staff were more than accommodating. We met some regular gamers who gave us some basics and then started a game with my BF and son to teach them with actual gameplay. Now my boys are hooked and they play at home with confidence. I'm sure this is just the beginning now that their geekdom has expanded into board games. Other Realms will be their go-to geekdom central. read more

Right off the bat, I'm going to start off this review by saying that I love the new at the Nimitz Center complex! One thing that I didn't really like about their old location on the second floor of Ward Warehouse was that it felt like the store was cramped with everything seeming like it was stuffed or crammed in. The funny thing is that they probably had one of the bigger lots in the shopping complex but the configuration was a little oddly shaped. The cramped quarters were most noticeable when they held events or game nights, due to the large table they had in the middle of their store. Since they didn't have adjacent side rooms on their lot, this central table was the only place for people to play games while others walked around & shopped. In the new location, the space is definitely a lot bigger and they have a lot more space to spread all of their stuff out. As soon as you enter the store, to the right you'll notice all of the gaming related stuff & figures are clustered together. In the middle of the store is a mix of more gaming stuff but this is also where you'll find comic book related merchandise such as vinyl toys, figurines, hats, stuffed figurines and a few graphic novels or books related to whatever comic book storyline is trending. To the left is the register and comic book issues laid out on a few racks, there are also graphic novels on the bookshelves adjacent to the wall. Towards the back left area of the shop is one of 2 conference rooms where gaming events are held, the other one is to the far right where the gaming related stuff. Thanks to this new layout I find that it's a pleasure to come in and shop. It no longer feels cramped like before when there gaming events, nor does it feel cramped when a handful of people are browsing in the same section. I feel like the space has also allowed them to diversify their offerings for both comics & games related merchandise too. I swear that they now have 3x the back issues and graphic novels then they ever had at the award Warehouse location! The staff is also really great & friendly too! Let me tell you that it can be a rare thing to go into a comic book shop & be able to talk to the workers about stuff you're looking for and not feel like you're being judged because you're not into the same stuff the shop owner or employees are into. The other day when I was in there browsing around, one of the employees came up & asked if I needed help and we got into a discussion about some of the variant covers they had of some of their Marvel comics. Although they personally kept up more with the independent publishers more than Marvel, I didn't feel like that got in the way of our brief talk nor did I feel like their interest in helping me was waning because of it. I knew that Other Realms had moved locations so my friend and I packed up our stuff and hit the road guided by our navigator "OK Google". I then spent the next 23 minutes yelling at my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge for using "HI 99" instead of "Kamehameha Highway" and for giving me instructions like "Keep Left, bear right" while my friend laughed on. The pinnacle of this is when we reached Best Buy and I pulled over because I thought "OK Google" had taken us to the old location by mistake because I had mixed up Other Realms and Ideal 808 in my head. I called the store and they informed me that they were in-fact just behind Best Buy. So we turned out of the lot and merged back onto the perilous main road then NINJA'D into the lot for Nimitz Center. We then found out that the parking lot links to Best Buy's lot and we didn't have to re-join the main road and do all that Ninjaing at all. ANYWAY! What we found inside the store was awesome, there were board games I've never even heard of and everything you could need for sessions of Pathfinder, D&D and others, from grid maps to figures. If I had had the money at the time I likely would have loaded up my car. On an unrelated note how much does a human kidney go for on the black market? You can live with just one right? Hands down, my favorite comic book/tabletop game shop in town. My husband and I come here because there is an amazing selection of comics, swag, and tabletop games. We come here to expand our Marvel Legendary collection and even though we plan on stopping by for only 10 minutes, we end up staying for an hour browsing through the entire collection and making friendly chit chat with staff. Staff is approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful and we love this place! I haven't played any tabletop games here before, but there are tons of space for folks to do that and it seems that this place has a great community of folks. This place is the biggest comic shop on the island of Oahu......that I know of LOL The workers at the shop are amazing and really helpful. The guy who owns the place is very insightful and helpful. They used to be located in the Ward Shopping Plaza by the theatres but with this new location, it is a lot more spacious. There is even a private game room. If you are into models, board games or comics, this is the place for you! I love the selection of games they have with ones for people of all ages. They also have a good selection of paints and tools for all your modeling needs. The selection of models is pretty well rounded as well, with ones for the novice and ones for the super experienced. If you are into role play, tjey have days for that (sorry can't help on more details, I like at home games lol). They also have a room where you can go and work on on your crafts! The store is really welcoming unlike some shops on the island, it's clean, well maintained, organized and spacious! If you need help, the staff is great! Also there is a free membership card for those that do buy lots of model supplies and games! Check this place out if you're in the area, you'll probably leave with at least a blindbox or button! Out of any of the gaming/card/hobby shops on the island, Other Realms is probably my favorite. It seems to be the most organized, has the friendliest associates, and is clean. Some of the shops on the island just...I don't know...smell funny and/or are weirdly lit and then they wind up not even having what I wanted or needed. Other Realms is pleasant to be in AND is usually well-stocked. They offer a huge selection of comics, dice, board games, tabletop games, etc. Their prices are comparable to the other like-stores on Oahu, and I feel like they have the largest selection over their competitors. There's only been a time or two where we couldn't find something that we wanted or needed and they could either give us a timeline as to when it would arrive or they offer to order it for us. Granted, their prices are more expensive than Amazon, but you have to consider a few things there...a.) supporting a local business and thus the local economy is always a good decision and b.) if you don't have Prime, the wait will either kill you or it will be the same price as the store at that point (and even with Prime, let's be real, there is no 2 day shipping to Hawaii). I think we've only ever went with Amazon over the store one time, and it was a game we didn't particularly care about getting right away but wanted to save $20 on. Everything else we've ever compared we've just decided to buy in the store for convenience's sake, because saving $1 or $2 is seriously not worth having to wait a week or two. My husband frequents the store a couple of nights a week due to their offering of tournaments and competitions; I don't participate in those, but they keep him happy and entertained. I do enjoy D&D on Wednesday nights; new and old players alike are welcome, and there seems to be a really good community for it. It's Adventurer's League, so just because one person can't play one week doesn't mean the entire campaign gets put on hold. So if you're tired of one person being a flake or bailing in your pal's living room D&D group and are constantly being put on hold...come out to Other Realms...we're playing regardless, lol. Other Realms is attached to a parking garage at Nimitz Center, so parking is free and plentiful. This is a very high break-in area, so don't leave any valuables in your car, hidden or not. Leave them at home or take them into the store with you. I've been in the store several times when HPD comes in and has to break the news to us that there's been a smash and grab either in the Nimitz Center parking lot or nearby at the Costco/Dole Cannery parking lot. Do NOT park in any of the parallel parking stalls in front of the store (along the building behind Other Realms), some people have nothing better to do than to wait for you to pull in for even half of a second before they call the tow truck. Just go in the parking garage and you'll be fine. If you do come on a tournament or game night, you don't necessarily have to come hungry, but if you do...there's plenty of fast food options nearby...Costco food court, 7-11, Subway, Tanaka Saimin, a thai place, and other places...or my personal favorite, La Tour Cafe :) You can also pack a lunchbox or something and bring in a sandwich, trail mix, etc., they're pretty cool about that. Just don't bring anything soupy/saucy or powdery, because you can't bring it in and eat it in the store. Thankfully, even if you do, there's a few seats in the back courtyard of the store near a fountain that you can chill and eat at really quickly before going back in and slaying some dragons. read more

The staff were helpful and the place is nice, but didn't have the RPG games I was looking for. I wanted OSR titles by publishers including Lamentations of the Flame Princess, Swordfish Islands and Necrotic Gnome. None were available even though some are currently Ennie nominated. They have a lot of DnD and Pathfinder and Call of Cthulhu (no Delta Green though). Disappointing because this place was the best chance on the island to find these things but all they carry are mostly PAIZO and WIZARDS OF THE COAST, which can also just be picked up at basic book stores like Barnes & Noble read more

Holy hell is this place awesome. Very rarely will you find a vast selection pretty close by. I came in to grab a few pop and ended up purchasing more expansion sets for my munchkin game. Granted it's a little bit more marked up, but at the same time it's fair (bare with me on this). Living on island sorta kills your shipping rates, so I did a little research and I only save about 2~3 bucks if that if I bought it online. They have a variety of comics that will peek your interests. I took a friend and she found a few comics she has not read since she was a teen. Some good toys and figures. The staff are quite knowledgeable and kind. If they didn't have an answer, they will help you search. You can also request items and they maybe able to ship it to their store for you. I wish they had video game tournaments, but it's the typical comic book store with magic card based tourneys/dicking around. I think I saw warhammer in the other rooms as wel. I came here for Local Comics day and it was great! This place is huge, super clean, organized, and full of employees who know their stuff! The back rooms had local comic authors/artists selling their comics. It was great to speak with them about their inspiration for their characters, what they have planned, and how they got started. Mog Park spent a lot of individual time with us going through her portfolios of GoT art. My daughter was amazed and appreciated it so much, as she's a young artist herself. I'd say the only downside to this place is that there's too much stuff I want in it. Haha. The gaming section alone could be its own store (or a walk-in closet in my dream home)! The $2 mystery comic bags are awesome. My daughter and I couldn't wait to open it when we got home. We even found a comic in there that was perfect for her BFF (who claims to be Batman)!
