After initially receiving some help (I note, only AFTER I submitted my last review), more than a month ago I was sent a replacement drive that was dead on arrival. I asked for a replacement for the replacement, also more than a month ago, and received NO response from anyone at OWC. I followed up several more times before concerns of the pandemic heated up, all to no avail. Now, I must work from home, and lack a critical component of my equipment (a reliable MacBook). DO NOT BUY from these charlatans. If ANYTHING goes wrong, their help will be half-assed and half-hearted, at BEST. read more

DO NOT PURCHASE ANY MAGSAFE CHARGERS FROM THEM! They are fakes being marketed as genuine. I have a mid-2012 MBP and my original charger died around Christmas 2019. January 2 2020 i bought a 60W Magsafe2 charger from OWC looking to save a little as they were seemingly a legit company and were selling legitimate products. Here was my error. The charger that arrived was from Dongguan Samsung Electro-Mechanics. And the charging light behavior was not normal but customer service assured me it was a genuine product from apple. 4 months later IT DIED. OWC apologized and replaced my charger under warranty. I cannot recall if I had to pay return shipping but it is entirely possible given what I have read from others. They sent me a new charger by the middle of June(a few weeks delay possibly from covid) Here I am again almost a year later with ANOTHER DEAD CHARGER. I called customer service again and got stone walled with "theres nothing we can do its out of warranty" and they said all I could do was buy another. I requested a manager and wanted my money back for their piece of crap chargers (TWO DEAD WITHIN A YEAR IS UNACCEPTABLE) and was told the same, nothing they can do. I sucked it up and spend the $85USD at Apple and got a genuine charger. There are a number of differences including a weight difference of 188g for the OWC vs 220g for Apple, the fact that OWC chargers are NOT UL Listed, and the Apple charger does not get hot like the OWC one did. Jim S. from the company refused to transfer me to a manger, although he had identified himself as a manager, and then changed to say he was in tech support (LIE#1), said he was trying to help, but then said there was no exception to any their policies (30 days to return a part MAX) (Lie #2). Come on OWC! Now a family member is stuck with a part that was given as a gift for their birthday, and since it was purchased in advance, it cannot be accepted by OWC. Really disappointed in this company and their customer service. Mac mini was not compatible with my Apple computer and customer service had me on hold over 30 minutes and then they couldn't help me. Had to call again and they finally figured out it wasn't compatible So I said I wanted to return it. It cost me almost $30 to return and then the refund was only for 85% of the purchase price due to a bullsh*t restocking fee that no one ever mentioned. Been trying to contact them for about a month now. I made my order in February and a couple of days later I got a text from customs that I had to pay import tax, so far so good. After more than a week I still hadn't received my package. I then contacted customs to make sure this was the package from OWC, I got a picture of the package (they always take pictures of packages that you need to pay tax on). In the picture I noticed that they had posted the package to the wrong post code, misspelled my city AND address. This is probably why I'll never see this package. OWC doesn't respond on my messages to them, but they're quick to answer my updates on TrustPilot. GREAT customer service. Solid products. I highly recommend these folks. I've used these guys for years to buy RAM for various model Macs without issue. Recently, I purchased a replacement battery for a 2009 17" Macbook Pro. Was overall pleased with the purchase, which arrived promptly and included all the needed tools for the simple install, plus a link to video instructions. A nice bonus was the battery arrived with a 75% charge. Was surprised to get an email two months later stating they'd discovered a firmware problem with my new battery and were sending me a replacement. It arrived a few days later; once again with all the necessary tools included and a pre-paid return label to send back the defective battery. Now, while I didn't really want to have to open my Mac and replace the battery again, I appreciated the prompt action on the matter -- all initiated on their end. Additionally, I emailed Nick (who'd sent the original notice of the recall), and asked if they recycled batteries, wondering if I could send them the now-dead Apple installed battery that I had originally replaced. Nick promptly replied, saying 'not a problem', and included a new shipping label to cover the increase in package weight. Not going to dock these guys for the defective battery issue. Sometimes the unexpected happens - especially in the world of technology. Bottom line, they did the right thing by notifying me and providing a quick solution before I had any issues on my end. Bought a whole bunch of products in anticipation of getting a MacBook Pro (wound up buying a late-2011 17" through MacMall). - OWC 16GB 1600MHz RAM - OWC Data Doubler (bought a nice 1TB Western Digital Blue thru Amazon) - OWC SuperSlim External DVD SuperDrive Enclosure - Parallels 8 copy (great buy; if you're not getting it bundled with your Mac, buy through OWC) All arrived in a single box, in a timely manner and without lost or damaged product. A+ on just being an awesome, comprehensive third-party supplier, with lots of great options for after-market parts on Apple's notoriously closed-box products. The online videos helped me immensely in uncovering my MacBook and installing all the parts cleanly and without too many sticky moments (working on a Mac is still rather tricky, but not too hard, even if you're a novice). My biggest surprise has been the ability to yank out all the replaceable parts and slap in the new ones and Apple seeing and accessing all these parts almost instantly (you gotta format the drives in Disk Utility, but then the OS can see and access all your pretty new SSDs and extra HDDs). I figured it'd be days of tweaking software to make this all work, or painfully slow part-by-part installations, but everything came together seamlessly. The small toolkit that came with the Data Doubler is also all you'll really need to access the guts of your MacBook. My only gripe was in the SuperSlim case's performance. The internal design is a little subpar, with too little mounting screw holes (and the slot kept causing the drive to sit a little bowed upward), but the connection works solid and allows an easy-to-carry DVD drive for loading any programs or watching any movies on the go, also freeing up more storage space. All told, shopping through OWC has been a great experience, and they will likely remain in my list of go-to online retailers for quality parts and service (and the prices aren't so bad either). read more

It's great that "you" are engaged and caretake your reviews. The response is standard and unfortunately doesn't help me in my situation. As I mentioned I have hardly used this system and it looks like the drive had a flaw from the start. It is an expensive Lemon. This lockdown has destroyed my business and I am in the process of rebuilding it. I have been forced for the first time in 30 years of working to take unemployment to help support my family and we are still siphoning savings each month. That leaves me with very limited discretionary funds and it is frustrating to think I did not get what I paid for, and a little insulting as a consumer that the answer from OWC is throw us some more money.... read more

I had no problems. My OWC 480 SSD upgrade went well, and my computer's performance is solid and noticeably faster. I did spend the extra hundred bucks to have certified Mac servicer install the new SSD, transfer data, and encase the old SSD in an external enclosure. So I eliminated my self as a source of error, but everything is working fine. read more

So a few months after the upgrade and the computer is still running and it's running very well. There is one or two pieces of dust under the glass of the screen, but I can only see it when the monitor is turned off. Overall, I am very pleased with OWC and I would definitely use them again to upgrade my Mac. The service was prompt and customer service is excellent! Thanks! read more

I deleted my earlier review (which pinned OWC at a 2-star affair) milliseconds after posting. My initial beef? I was being dinged with the shipping expense for an RMA return. It rubbed me the wrong way, and I thought you should know. But before I had a chance to post, I also let OWC know -- and within minutes of sending off my concern, I get an email from the head of OWC followed by phone calls from customer service remedying the issue. I've been taught a valuable lesson -- give the vendor a shot to show their colors. OWC customer service is top-notch. Thanks, gang. As to the shop itself. I do like the products - some have worked for me better than others. And their do-it-yourself aesthetic very much appeals to me. The tutorials are great. The product-thinking is very much a forward/backward affair -- looking toward future-tech but also continuing to support and find clever ways to repurpose older tech. Didn't honor a warranty on product I bought from then - a MacBook Pro charger that fell apart where they have consistently been described to fall apart. Had it for only 8 months. Do not recommend using them. Updated 9/8/2014: I was called the following day (after my yelp review) on 9/5/2014 by Scott from OWC. He was profusely apologetic and stated the case had been re-opened for review and they would be happy to honor the warranty. I was quite pleased. I received my charger today! Unfortunately I had already ordered a new charger from another company, which also arrived today. I have two chargers now, which probably isn't a bad thing, considering these things seem to fall apart quickly. Other World Computing offers DSL internet service via Faster Mac and I have been a customer of theirs using this internet service for years. During this time, my internet connection has been "ok", altho there have been some "hiccups" along the way. Usually, OWC is readily available to help via phone tech support. I have/do recommend them as a DSL provider to friends & neighbors, altho that may change based on a recent experience. It drives me crazy when they email me to tell me I must contact them immediately because my "... credit card has been declined or there was an error in processing payment for Internet services." This has happened more than once to me. Receiving an email like this causes me to panic - especially in this day & age when credit card numbers are stolen & every other email nowadays seems to be a "phishing" scam. I have to spend time & effort in contacting my credit card company to see if there is a problem on their end, which it never is their problem...it is always OWC's issue. I then spend time & effort to contact OWC to tell them it is, once again, a problem in billing, on their end. Today, after calling & speaking to "Doug" about this, he very non-chalantly said OWC knew about the problem, and it didn't affect very many people, it was a "software glitch" on their part & they corrected the problem. I asked why OWC couldn't contact people who received the incorrect email to tell them the situation was an error on their part & to ignore the first email. His answer to me was unacceptable; it was "That's a good question." I'm *still* waiting for an answer to my question from 2 years ago as to why my internet speed isn't what it's supposed to be. At that time, I was told OWC was going to send someone to to check the connection going into the house. Needless to say, I'm still waiting for that visit. Doug's cavalier response to my concern, coupled with the fact that tech support never calls you back when they are asked a question that they may need to research before giving an answer, makes me question if it's time to switch to another internet provider.... read more

Update...although I was contacted by Nick at OWC the outcome was the same...the logic board won't be replaced and I should consider buying the warranty when purchasing electronics. Nice to be contacted by Nick who i'm assuming is the manager since no other manager contacted me. But basically my fault for not spending more money on a warranty, I guess I should've predicted it would stop working after 6 months. So my advice go with Apple directly or buy the warranty. First and last time I go anywhere but Apple directly. Expensive lesson learned! Got a battery from OWC for a 15" Macbook Pro. In less than two months it started draining rapidly even on stand by mode. Asked OWC tech support and they said it is normal and I should not expect more than 3-4 hours from a fully charged battery-- which I am not getting. That is rather poor for a $100 battery. Tech support said I should have bought the battery from Apple to expect factory performance (which by the way is only $29 more). However, their own marketing hype states the following: "NuPower is your answer. NuPower batteries are designed to meet and exceed factory specifications, so now you can listen to more music, watch more videos, and get more work done between recharges." Basically, the message was "live with it"-- OWC will not do anything to help. Bad experience.... read more

I purchased a MagSafe charger and power cord. Both were not authentic Mac products and did not work. I sent them back for a refund, and MacSales claimed they could not offer a refund as they couldn't prove the MagSafe was theirs, and that I must have not returned all the packaging the charger came in. This is a flat out lie from them, as I made sure to save and return everything. The charger also did not come in any Apple packaging, just an unmarked bubble mailer. Screen adhesive failed. 31 day old BRAND NEW IMAC destroyed. Immediately after purchasing my new IMAC, I installed an SSD with the OWC kit following every instruction to the finest detail. Everything worked well. Roughly 30 days later, I walk in to my screen face first on my keyboard and mouse broken. After speaking to 3 people, all repeated the same exact thing, Sorry, we are not responsible for damage caused during installation. I installed it 30 days ago... IT WAS INSTALLED fine. It was again, 30 DAYS LATER that your adhesive FAILED! I even told the last manager I spoke to, that I was so disappointed that not one single time did they ever ask about the details leading up to the failure. Would quality control not want to be in the conversation to ask a few questions to assure the integrity of their product to make sure my situation was an isolated one and not the beginning of a larger problem? He could care less. Reinsuring me that it was not their problem. I left a one star review which will still not show up on their page. I called and asked why, and was told they all need to be reviewed. You mean, filtered? I hope I do not get the robo message on here like all other bad reviews. I need a solution. Let me add...I am very disappointed. Up until this point I was a OWC fan boy. (OWCS3DAPB4MB10) Quantity: 1 Price: $429.00 It was shipped to our business in Canada. It was installed by a certified MAC repair shop (I-Technique) in Toronto and IT WAS DEFECTIVE. I had paid $100 to I-Technique for installation. After OWC accepted that it was defective and agreed to send a new drive if I returned the old one, I had incurred another $100 installation fee from I-Technique. I had asked OWC to refund the second installation charge and they refused. It was very poor business practice and I do not recommend them. read more

I really wish I'd read the reviews first. Their misleading information led me to buy a cord for my MacBook that was half the length of the original cord. I paid for rush shipping, and had to pay to return this cord, for absolutely nothing. I would never buy something from this company again. I clarified MULTIPLE times that my warranty would at the very least be extended from the date of replacement - and I was assured that was the case. Here we are again, on yet another failure, 3 weeks outside of warranty - and there is nothing they can do for me. literally nothing. no discount. no options. nothing but 'i'll help you order a new drive" - i would stay FAR away from this company. I own a small technology consulting company and needed something running OS X for testing in our office. I ordered a MacBook Pro from OWC for way less than I could find one elsewhere. I chose a unit with a bad optical drive because we can work around that and it was quite a bit less expensive than ones with working optical dives. Even though I selected the free shipping option that they estimated would take 5 days I received the MacBook in just 2 days. It was carefully packaged and arrived in good working order. Its been running for about 10 days now and has been upgraded to El Capitan without issue. If I ever need another MAC I'll go back to OWC for sure! read more

I have spent a lot of money with this company and found out that the first time you need them to stand behind their product they run as fast they can from you. I purchased a SSD for my IMAC, I followed the instructions implicitly. When I put it all back together the LCD display was damaged. I took it to the Apple Store and naturally it was $580 to repair it. When they finished fixing it, they called and told me that the heat sensor for the SSD failed diagnostics. I called OWC very concerned about this problem. I don't want to take the $580 LCD off to replace the defective sensor. I asked OWC for assistance and they have obviously forgot I am their customer. read more

I contacted support and they sent me another battery at no extra charge and matched the shipping speed I first chose. I had the batteries swapped and it is better than brand new. My original review, which gave the company one star, follows below, but I'm now rating it five stars because they were very proactive in responding to the problem. They wrote and called me (both) within hours of the original review and sent a replacement item 2 day air. They also noted that they were going to review their online payment procedure using PayPal, so that the customer would have a chance to review customer info, mainly address, before being sent over to PayPal. That would solve the problem described below in the future. However, there's an outstanding problem with how they fulfill orders using Paypal they need to fix. I initiated an online order with OWC for a NewerTech NuGuard Snap-On Laptop Cover. I was then asked how I wanted to pay for it and I selected Paypal. Without any further verification of my address, etc., I was then sent to Paypal where I clicked to verify the order. The item never arrived. When phoned OWC (Macsales) I discovered for the first time that the company had sent my purchase to a former address. I was told that I would have to wait until Monday (it's now Saturday) for the problem to be "analyzed" by some team OWC. I was not given the option to order the item for shipment to the correct address, and now have to wait another couple of days to try to get this resolved. I did check with PayPal and they've had my current address on file for a long time, so the problem is that OWC doesn't have a procedure for verifying and updating the address if one uses Paypal. This is a procedural error that needs correcting. The correction is quite simple: 1 Don't ask for the payment method until the customer information is verified. I purchased an Aura Pro drive which lasted less than a year in a MacBook Pro, and was sent an Aura X2 drive as a replacement. To start things off, the replacement was valued at $149 when I originally paid $219 for the Aura Pro. I also asked to have the replacement shipped overnight, and paid for the shipping as well, to which they FORGOT to ship it. I then received the replacement 3 days late. Later, after installing the X2 and trying to boot into windows, I encountered error after error and it would not boot in windows. I ended up digging around and discovered in some release from OWC that the drive they had replaced the Aura Pro with was not compatible with bootcamp meaning I could not run windows on the Aura X2. So in all, I was given a drive which didn't live up to the original aura but was claimed to be better in every way (or so I was promised)......Since I need to run bootcamp I returned the Aura X2 and expected full refund of the original 219 I paid for the Aura Pro. I was later informed I would only be receiving 149 back. To add to all of this the Aura X2 is a terrible drive and causes crashes ALL the time. Another note, OWC requires you to return your original drive back to them when you are given a replacement. At first, this may seem like standard procedure but it could be a major invasion of privacy because in many cases data can still be pulled from a broken drive. I asked if I could drill a hole through the drive which would definitely render it unreadable to which I was told I would not receive a refund if I did. Clearly this company does not value anyones privacy. I would never ever recommend this product or this company to anyone. In sum it seems like they are using cheap components and selling them at high dollar. Both SSD's I owned and tested never lived up to the read and write speeds, and were actually lesser than OEM Samsung SSD's which is what originally shipped in the MacBook Pro's. I've been a long time customer of OWC/MacSales and I had always been happy with their products and service. This has changed with my most recent purchase from them, however. I bought a NewerTech 95W NuPower Battery Replacement Kit from them in December and went through the lengthy process of removing and gluing in the new battery. Everything worked well for the first few weeks but then I got a notification that my battery needs to be serviced. Since it had only been 3 months since I replaced it, I reached out to customer support and they told me to recalibrate the battery by discharging and recharging 4 times. I tried this and it still has a warning that I should replace it now. I reached out to customer service again and was told that they would provide a replacement. They asked if I wanted to provide a credit card or send the battery back and wait for the replacement. Since I need my computer for work, I gave them my credit card info. I just received the replacement battery and was surprised that there is no return shipping label. Thinking it was a mistake, I reached out to customer support and asked for the return label. They told me that I'm responsible for shipping it back to them. I don't even know why they want the faulty battery back because it's glued in and you have to pry it out. My original battery looked pretty beat up by the time I got it out of my computer so it seems like a hazard to be shipping it back anyway. But now I have to go through the whole battery replacement process again and pay to ship the faulty battery back. The customer service rep was no help and I asked for an email or number to file a complaint. She told me that wasn't possible. I saw this happened to one other person as well so it's not an anomaly with this battery. I used to stand by this company and their products but, unfortunately, I can't recommend them anymore. UPDATE: I was contacted by OWC/MacSales and they provided a shipping label for the faulty battery and the new battery seems to be charging and discharging properly so I have added a star to my review. read more

OWC has a large selection of spare computer parts, but I was not able to find the laptop battery replacement I needed for my mid 2012 MacBook. There was some initial confusion at first and I ended up with the wrong battery, but they accepted my return well after the return period due to the fact I had spent all that time trying to install it. I will return to their selection to look for other parts I need in the future. read more
