When we come up to Albany from the city, we always make it a habit to visit this place. This has been our third time here and everything we have tried has been delicious. This time around we came for the prime rib special. Although the prime ribs were a little overcooked, we all said we would come back for it again. We usually order the wings for appetizer but this time we opted for the spinach dip. We weren't a fan of it- personal preference. As my brother in law would put it, it "tastes like the fake cheese from 7-11". The waiter (Hi Noah!) was very nice about it and told the manager, who promptly came over to the table and let us know she would take it off the bill. Very nice of her to do! As we waited, patiently for a table, and sat in the waiting area, another group with very young children came in and were able to sit at the bar, literally both of their children were under age and one sat in a high back chair at the bar! Although, when we had arrived 22 minutes earlier we were told "No Sorry" when we asked if we could get a drink at the bar, not sure why we were told "No" but another family was allowed. Wondering why? Wondering if the Kitchen staff is running the joint and/or do they need to be monitored? seems to me it's not worth the wait and time For this restaurant. read more

It was hard to find an open dining room during these times. This restaurant had one so I tried them for dinner. I had the fish burrito and enjoyed it. Decided to come here because it is one of the few indoor seating places open currently. The food was alright however, between two people we got a total of 15 bug bites on our feet, ankles, and legs. I was hoping to find a Good Friday fish fry and found a great one here. The beer batter coating was crispy and golden with delicious warm haddock inside. So good! Wow! What a great find. Nice little place on a golf course with a great menu. I had the fish and chips and, I'm not exaggerating, it was Moby Dick. I barely finished the fish and left behind a plate of fries. This fish was perfectly breaded and fried. The service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. Food came out hot and fast and from what I could see of other customers food, everyone should be happy. I don't ever remember getting this much fish at a restaurant. Showed up at 6pm on a Friday night without a reservation. Service was impeccable.. entree was served within 30 min of arriving, waitress went above and beyond expectations, servings were the perfect size. This is one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. Water glasses refilled in a timely manner. Food was absolutely outstanding. We spent less than $30 for the both of us (before tip) and were in and out in an hour. Never felt rushed despite and crowds of people arriving while we were seated... Terrific food. We go weekly. We've probably been there 100 times and have never had a disappointing experience. Hard to know where to start. The fish fry is the best I've found in the area. I've never found blue cheese dressing as good anywhere around here as well. The soups are always terrific. The wings are plump and juicy. The service in both the dining room and at the bar is always first rate. They get everything right and you don't have to wait a long time. My only beef is that it can be hard to get a seat at the bar but that's a testament to how popular the place is. read more

Our late arriving party of six were warmly greeted on a recent Tuesday evening and served by Lorie. She was very attentive and gracious during our meal. You need to take Mill Rd off Rt 7 to find it. Very little direct signage directing you there. It's been expanded and improved by new ownership. I haven't been there in more than 20 years as I knew the former owners very well and the new ownership appears to be carrying the torch forward in quality. Yes, bar area can be loud, it's not the quaint upscale restaurant where you overpay for everything. It's like a Cheers bar with good food, good beer/drinks and great people. This is a very good place to eat. I ordered a turkey club and it was very good. The turkey and lettuce were fresh and the bacon was cooked perfectly. They put the exact right amount of mayonnaise to correspond with the rest of the sandwich. The fries were are very good. They were crispy, but light and had good flavor. My boyfriend and I and a couple friends went here for dinner one night. I had pretty high expectations for this place because it had come highly recommended. I was craving a burger and someone told me this was the place to go. Atmosphere: Much like a pub. Dim lights, busy, VERY NOISY. There is an upper level with tables and then a lower level that looks more like a dining room with a bunch of tables as well. The noise is what really got me though. I felt like I was yelling across the table at my friends. Service: We made reservations and thank goodness because it was jammed pack full. I would definitely recommend doing the same. Once we got seated our waitress was fairly prompt in taking our drink and food orders. She was friendly enough but seemed a bit overwhelmed. We waited for our food for about 30 minutes. The waitress got our orders correct except that my friend's burger was underdone and she is pregnant. Big problem. We told the waitress and she apologize profusely and mircowaved my friend's burger. She checked in with us a couple times and offered to refill our drinks. She was a bit grabby with our plates. I am a slow eater and some of the other people at my table are very fast eaters so she took their plates away and I was still eating but she was about to take mine as well. Waitress 101 - wait until the customer is finished. Food: I can only speak to the burger and fries because everyone at my table got some variation of that. One person ordered the Western Burger (onion rings, american cheese, bacon, a-1 sauce), another the Patty Melt (onions and swiss on grilled rye), and the Aztec Burger (chipolte sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon). Everyone seemed to enjoy their burgers without any complaints (minus the one burger being underdone). I asked them if they would get the same thing again and they said they would. I have to tell you thought, one of my friends and my boyfriend are guys who will eat just about anything you put in front of them and call it delicious. Now, I just got a plain cheeseburger. I ordered it with cheddar cheese which was my first mistake because they use shredded cheddar instead of slices. The shredded cheddar you could hardly taste and that was disappointing because I mean, when you order a cheese burger, you want some ooey gooey cheese coming out. The meat itself was decent, nothing spectacular or interesting about it, but tasty none the less. The burgers all came with lettuce, tomato, and raw onion. I should have asked to leave the onions off because they over powered everything. I took them out though and that was fine. The buns the burgers were served on were okay, they don't toast them or anything though which I think is always a nice touch. The fries however, were absolutely amazing. They were hot and crispy and seasoned just right. YUM! Size wise the burgers were all approximately 8oz patties. They don't go crazy on your fries, which for me is fine because I can never finish them all, but some might say they are cheating you. So I was a bit sad that my burger wasn't everything I had dreamed about. I think if I ever were to go back I would get the Popeye Burger without the lettuce, tomato, or onion. Cost: Relatively cheap if you are just getting a burger and fries. I think everyone's burger was around $12-$13. There were some more expensive things on the menu but that's if you go for the steaks or something more high end. So, overall, not awful, just not fantastic either. We've been frequent customers for many years but last night's visit was the most unpleasant experience we've ever had. When we arrived for our 5 PM reservation the hostess did not acknowledge us or look up from her chart. We were seated in the dining room. There were 2 of us and the table we were shown to (#2) was a small one, in the corner leaving one person looking directly at a wall. We asked for a different table, the young lady went to check with the hostess and returned and told us they needed the 4 tops for larger groups and they were fully booked. I pointed out 2 other couples seated at that style of table and the vacant ones that were still available. She replied that they couldn't make a change. So....... after 2 years of Covid and being stuck in the house our one night out this week had me looking at a wall and a not very attractive picture. In my view the hospitality industry is 50% food and 50% ambiance. The food was fine but the latter most definitely was not. By the way when we left the 4 top directly behind us was STILL vacant, 3 other couples had been seated at 4 tops AND we had to wait while the unpleasant and unaccommodating hostess chatted up people in the entry hall blocking our exit. No thank you for coming either. Very poor customer service. read more

A friend of mine dragged me in there about a year ago and I've never looked back. If I'm in the mood for fish and chips, a good burger or the Calamari ( which is some of the best I have had ), it's become my home away from home. I haven't had a formal dining experience there as of yet - I'm just a person who nibbles something at the bar. Great bartenders, great waitstaff and the owner is always attentive to what his customers prefer and tries to adjust the draft beer selections accordingly. My husband and I went to Otis and Oliver this past Friday night with another couple, and it was so noisy and loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation with our friends. In addition, our server (#1 at Table 4) was rude. We had to ask for silverware and napkins when our meal came and she blamed the oversight on the person who seated us. We love the food and may order takeout again, but have no plan to return to such a noisy atmosphere. We have been here three times so far-- all during weekday lunch hours. They tend to be fairly busy and the waitresses seem a bit overloaded with work. The first time we were there, we waited a full 30 minutes for the meal (after having to flag down the waitress to put in our orders), and had to take the food to go due to limited time on lunch. After that, we have been calling in our order ahead of time so that it'd be ready when we arrived, and the hostesses have been very accommodating about it-- which is a huge plus that keeps us going back. All three times, I've ordered the pub ribs, which is always delicious but not as consistent (today's was loaded with barbecue sauce whereas a previous take was less saucy and more dry rub). As far as quality of ribs go though, they are fantastic. We've also had the burger and wraps, which seem consistently delicious. Baked beans are on the sweet side. Fries are average. Staff is accommodating. Overall, a good place for lunch! read more

My husband and I frequent Otis and Oliver's once a week. Even our dog is named Otis. We love this place. Staff and owners are very friendly and the food is wonderful. Suggestions to try: Shrimp Cocktail Scallops Gruyere as an appetizer or meal Steaks Italian Burger is to die for The Ribs are truly their signature dish All of their soups are incredible-Loaded Baked Potato, French Onion, New England Clam Chowder, try them all as they are not salty. Mixed emotions here. I went here a few weeks ago, with friends, and still debated on how to rate this. The food was close to 4 stars. A few little tips and I would say they could get there. The service was good too. She did drop the ball towards the end, when she got busy with more tables. My complaint here is this. The place is very large. The plain retro wooden tables that so reminded me of the set up at a Golden Corral or sizzler came to mind. Real tall ceilings so that the conversation echo through the place. Was hard to have a quiet intimate conversation. Birthday celebrations everywhere. I guess to someone that's no big deal but the place definitely wasn't cozy. As a matter of fact I thought the seats and tables were uncomfortable, that to me takes away from the whole dining experience. The food although tasty was slightly cold. The French onion soup which was full of flavor, needed a knife and fork to cut through the harden cheese that once was melted. read more
