Recommended by a lovely young lady at Dollar Tree. They're lucky to have friends. To begin with, seems that there was one lady (albeit a very nice one) who was serving as chief cook and bottle washer. She was taking orders, preparing food, and keeping it friendly. We waited over 30 minutes. Pimp had the bbq chicken dinner and I had a fish sandwich. The place was very clean. Not much seating. We chose to wait in our car. After going in to check several times, the lady said we were waiting for my fish sandwich. (Said she didn't wanna "serve [us] no raw fish." Appreciated that.) But 30 minutes? My fish sandwich was tasty but the white bread was gummy. Pimp's chicken was a bit overcooked and dry. He says the sauce was runny and not flavorful. No seasoning on the chicken whatsoever. His baked beans were bleh and his collard greens were too salty (and we love salt). No bread or corn muffin. Just mediocre. Sorry. Won't be back. They have a very simple entrance but immediately you feel at ease when entering. I got the pulled pork, which was a little fatty but very delicious. There's a lot of sauce board on top of it as well so it's not dry. I got the ribs and they were fall-off-the-bone deliciousness. They have a good dry rub it seems on it and then also sauce over top. The collard greens were spectacular. I added some crushed red pepper to make them spicy and I inhaled them. The cornbread is very dense, and the mac & cheese is simple but gooey. The service was only one worker the phone and the grill and taking orders for the walk-ins. So be kind to them! she was quick and getting the order out to me and I am glad that it was in a plastic bag because the sauce spilled over, but that means it was a very saucy ambience establishment was clean and displaying all the award-winning barbecue fest accolades. read more

I can only speak for the ribs as we picked up a tray for a party and they were absolutely terrible. pretty much every rib in the pan was tough, flavorless and dang near inedible. I really enjoy the pulled BBQ pork with a side of greens and Mac n cheese. I've never had greens before trying theirs an I'm addicted. Very flavorful with bacon, soft and at times a little salty. The pork is always drenched in their BBQ which I absolutely love. I always ask for my bread on the side so I can use to dip & scoop the meat. Called and the lady said she didn't read the ticket correctly then proceeded to blame the dasher as well for not checking the order. Got a pulled pork sandwich that included BONES! I have seen this place for 9 years on the corner of Main and 6 1/2 mile and was really excited to try it. I asked for a full order of ribs and the person working the counter said they didn't have any. (They close at 9 and it was 6:30) I asked if they had chicken and she said yes that there was 1 left. I also ordered a full order of rib tips, mac and cheese and greens. She was friendly and quick to put our order together. When we got home we all sampled the takeout. We all thought the tips were a bit chewey and the chicken was dry. The flavor was mediocre and we were a bit disappointed with the bbq sauce and meat. The mac and cheese was good. Had a good cheesy flavor. Not much more you can say about mac and cheese. I've never had greens and wanted to try them. My wife said greens are good if you make them with onion and bacon. Not sure if any onion were in these but there were definitely signs and taste of bacon. The taste reminded me of green beans with bacon. My wife said these didn't taste like the greens she had from a coworker and was a little disappointed. I hope for the business sake the bad score I gave them is only for their travel trailer and not for their main address. Having lived in battle Creek for roughly a year this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the town. OTs up in smoke serves some of the best barbecue I've had since leaving Georgia and Tennessee. I grew up in the south in a very big barbecue culture this really does remind me of home. The ribs and rib tips are absolutely phenomenal my wife tends to like the pulled pork plate as well sandwiches are just as delicious. I love the slaw which has chopped up apples in it to give it a little bit of sweetness. Macaroni and cheese taste very homemade and wonderful we have even tried one of their homemade pies which was very very good. You will not go wrong giving this restaurant a try you'll be coming back over and over. read more

The Rib Tips were delicious and tender. I liked the bbq sauce that they used. The baked beans were really flavorful with some bacon in it. The French fries were nice and crispy. Not bad prices for a lunch meal. My buddy got the pulled pork sandwich and he said it was also really good and he enjoyed the baked beans too. It didn't take long to get our food and the service was quick. The restaurant itself was fairly small and it wasn't packed at all during lunch. So this place was suggested by a local that was kind enough to engage in a conversation with a stranger asking about a good place to eat. The started offering up chain restaurants and I politely said, no I'm looking for a mom and pop shop or a hole in the wall. Well this is no hole in the wall but I would say it family owned and they offer up a damn good product. I was craving a whiting fish sandwich but they don't serve whiting. They do however serve catfish and I must say it was some of the most that I've had since leaving the south. Lots of souther or sould food side to choose from and the woman I enter acted with at the register was delightful and up spirited. Another thing I want to mention is I got my food hot. It was in a Styrofoam container inside a tied plastic bag. I drove for 20 minutes before I was able to stop and eat. The food was still hot but the most impressive part to me was my fish was still crispy to the bite! read more

We decided to order from here for the first time because we've never tried it. We had to order through a delivery company, of course. Our food was done quickly and still hot when it arrived so that was really nice. Other than that, the food was just okay. We ordered the rib tip dinner and the chicken tenders dinner. Both with beans and fries. We ordered cornbread as well. The menu said that the chicken tenders dinner comes with two sauces but nowhere does it say what those sauces are so we added a note that if we are allowed to choose, can we please get hot sauce as one choice and bbq sauce as the other since we didnt know if we could get hot mustard as an option or anything like that. So the two sauces we got was a big cup of bbq and then a much smaller cup with literally a squirt and a half of hot sauce. Really? It wasnt even enough for one tender so we actually got shorted a sauce since they wanted to be so stingy about it. The bbq sauce was extremely watered down. There was so substance or thickness to it at all. We also got no napkins or flatware. Again, really? The rib tips were decent but the bbq sauce took them from good to just okay. The chicken strips were good. I loved the breaking and they were a really good size which is why the hot sauce was gone after eating 3/4 of one. The cornbread tasted more like some kind if sweet bread. It had no flavor except for the sweet aftertaste of the honey glaze. All in all, it's the little things like that that really effect ones experience. I draw the line on being stingy with hot sauce though. Clearly this is not good ole southern bbq. If you like BBQ pork sandwiches, and some good corn bread, this is the best in town. They also make great hamburgers, cole slaw and fries. You should call ahead, as there really is no place to eat on the premises. During the summer, they have a small table or two out front, but that is it. It is mainly take out. They have won a lot of local BBQ awards in festival competitions, and the food is pretty consistent. read more

Really good BBQ. My husband grab me BBQ from there whenever he has to go to Battle Creek for work. Whenever he goes he gets the ribs, pulled pork, rib tips and 2 or 3 orders of their red beans and rice. Whenever he goes he gets them to put the sauce on the side as they tend to put too much on their plates otherwise. Other than that, though it's really good BBQ. I know they have won awards at BBQ festivals and you can tell by how good the food is. read more

First visit was very good but second and third were sub par at best. Portions of ribs varied greatly on every visit and the last were so tough we gave up. I feel the membrane on the underside of the rib rack should be cut off before smoking as it is inedible, unappealing and impedes the smoking process IMO. The sides of slaw and Mac and cheese were unremarkable. Service personnel were friendly! For the price and quality I think we will give place a long break from our patronage. read more

OT's isn't exactly bad, it's just not as good as the other place in town... and it's a bit pricier. I love bbq in general, but I'm willing to drive past here and all the way across town to get to Sonny's, even when time is of the essence. The pork here is pretty good, the sauce is lacking. I have had OT's bbq at catered work events and am always pleased with their food. I decided to go out to lunch and was surprised upon arrival at the restaurant that it's not indeed an actual restaurant - it's take-out/catering only. There is not a single table inside the place. Thankfully it was nice enough outside that we sat at the only picnic table. Maybe I am not familiar with the norm of these type of places - I was expecting a pulled pork sandwich, but definitely had to eat it with a fork since it's loaded with meat and bbq sauce, not able to be contained in the bun and definitely too messy to pick up. All that said, I left satisfied, but not super likely to return there for lunch again, knowing that I'd have to take it back to the office to eat it. read more

I have been getting lunch from here for about 8 years now. The pulled pork and fries have always been the best. Not sure what happened there recently but after the meal I had this week from there i won't be returning. The sauce was horrible,it appeared to be watered down and there was very little sauce.
