I grew up near here and when I was a kid, Ritzee was a HUGE treat. People didn't go out to eat back then as much as we do now. I haven't been home in many years. I had to come to town for a funeral, and I was amazed to see that it was still here! This place is fantastic. No gimmicks. Just good old American style burgers and fries. Must be a hometown favorite. Received our food super fast. Fries super hot just out of the fryer. Crispy on the outside, creamy inside. A ton of them! They were perfect. Burgers were okay. Hit the spot. Not sure about being the best around as we regularly go to a burger place that has one of the best burgers in Michigan so every burger we get anywhere else is compared to what we get there (Laura's Burger Joint in Decatur). This didn't measure up. Looks like a school cafeteria burger. It did taste better than a cafeteria burger. We thought the burgers were okay. Fine for a quick stop, pick them up and if you are from out of town go down the road to the arboretum and have an in-car meal with a nice view. Ritzee's is a block west of the Urbandale Speed's, it's closest competitor in the area. Unlike Speed's, Ritzee's is counter service. Once you order and pay at the counter, you find a table or booth and someone brings the prepared food from the kitchen. The more complicated the order, the longer it takes. We generally get a couple of 1/2 lb. cheeseburgers (Ritzburgers) and fries and that takes 5 - 10 minutes. The decor is strictly 1970's with a lot of photographic memorabilia about Battle Creek. The booth we typically pick still has the remnants of a "No Smoking" label on the table (dating back to those fond days when dining rooms were divided between those that were compelled to smoke during a meal and those that didn't or wouldn't). It's classic diner food that is satisfying because it is hot and filling rather than imaginative or flavorful. The protein in the burgers is not seasoned (which we consider an idiotic practice, considering how many different seasoning mixes are available. We put together a seasoning mix whch we store in our shelves at home for when we make burgers. It's made of things readily available - so, sorry, no star anise - and it makes the burgers much more flavorful. It's one of the reasons we WILL drive to Back to the 50's in South Haven because the owner's seasoning of his protein is spot on). The fries are traditional krinkle fries without seasoning. Milk shakes are ice cream blended with milk so only a moron could mess up that recipe. The food is okay, nothing more. Going to Ritzee's is a matter of convenience rather than a spot I will drive to. I will say that prices are very, very reasonable. Service is generally good. Because of the order we prefer, we are advised at least once, if not twice, that it'll take so many minutes for our order to come up. And that's fine. We don't come to Ritzee's in a rush to eat. So, of course, I don't understand who would go to Ritzee's using the drive through. Just because a restaurant has a drive through doesn't mean the restaurant is equipped to use it appropriately. Ritzee's is like fast food much like Panera's is like fast food. The punch line is: They really aren't. As with any Panera, I'd go in, order, pay, grab a chair, and wait for my take out order to be picked up. I would never expect Ritzee's to churn out an order as fast as a McDonald's. read more

Classic. I've been here just once, but it brought back nostalgic memories of the now defunct Humdinger Restaurant (Portland, Oregon) that sold delicious, simple burgers for less than a buck each. I remember eating lots of them as a kid. Ritzee's sign says "79 cent hamburgers", so I figured I'd give it a shot and see if they were similar to my childhood favorites. Got a bag of two mini burgers and two mini cheeseburgers and a soda for less than $6. They were yummy and cheap and brought back the memories of my past. They get an extra star here for nostalgia - the food is simple and not gourmet, but it works for me. Will be back for sure! read more

This is a classic old style burger joint on the West Side of Battle Creek. Ritzee has been in business since I can remember. They serve burgers, dogs, fish, chicken strips, and other fast food. They also serve breakfast. The burgers and dogs are average, but the fries are fantastic. They serve the best crinkle fries that I have ever consumed. Overall this is a pretty good burger stop with character. It sure beats getting the same old chain food. read more

The interior of this restaurants reminds me of the old school mcdonalds from the 80's with the stained glass. It's. Pretty sweet looking. It may be dated, but adds to the flare of this restaurant. I stopped in for lunch and picked up an olive burger combo with an extra cheese burger to go. The fries are ordinary crinkle cut, and not over salted. The amount you get it ridiculous! The to go bag was full of them! BRAVO! The olive burger was delicious and the same for the cheese burger. Nice sized patties and a great price! Ritzee was our go-to fast food growing up in Battle Creek. While visiting town my parents and I went to the last remaining location (the other two closed a decade or two ago) so the nostalgia likely influences my rating. We went for lunch on a Tuesday, you order at the counter and grab a booth and they bring food out. The inside of this location has not changed much in 30 years. Ritzee has a wide range of burgers, chili dogs, sandwiches and a lot of other stuff I did not remember. I ordered a chili dog, Oliver burger and fries. My mom got a BLT and my dad ordered the chicken sandwich. The food came out in less than ten minutes. The chili dog was every thing I recalled, the chili sauce was rich and savory, the bun held up to the dog/sauce and flavor was great. The olive burger was just OK (there used to be better ones in BC), now the crinkle cut fries were outstanding as always. I will not be back in BC as often now that my parents have left but I do hope this place keeps going and that life grants me a few more visits for a chili dog fix! read more

Pretty standard burger, with a really cool retro twist. I love the pink neon, the huge larger than life sign that tells us who they are. I have never gone in this place, for fast food I typically opt for drive through, but maybe we should try going in next time because the complaints that people have about the long waits are true. They were nice enough, but when you use a drive through, you hope for some speed. The burgers are good, no frills, the chicken strips for my son were decent. The fries were pretty good as well, very well seasoned which isn't always the case. So I want to love this place, but in all I can only fall in like with them. read more

We were driving through Battle Creek heading home and we were starting to get hungry. As I turned a corner my car was filled with an awesome scent (glorious BACON). And there was Ritzee. So we went in and were greeted with a smile. The lady behind the cash register was very happy and seemed genuinely happy to be there. We placed our order and she made sure we ordered exactly what we wanted. The food was made and delivered quickly and was exactly what we ordered. The food was awesome (great burger).
