We started coming here in May since a few years ago. They have a big parking lot. The cherries and blueberries were a lot to pick because the farm was big. The staff were very friendly. My husband took me here for mother's day with my toddler and we had so much fun. We got so many blueberries and cherries. Also got a refreshing lemonade ($2) at the end. The price is really fair ($4 a pound with cash / $4.25 with card) and it's a great experience. Parking is easy and plentiful. While driving between SF and Yosemite, we saw roadside signs for u-pick cherries and blueberries. Our kids love both and we can't pick those fruits out in Ohio where we live. So while we were staying overnight in Merced on our way back from Yosemite, I started searching for U-pick locations. Ott Farms popped up in my Google search and is conveniently located near Modesto along our route back to SF. And let me say that we are soooooo glad we found Ott Farms! The gentleman and lady at the entrance were very nice, the blueberries & cherries were PHENOMENAL, the fruit trees were still full of fruits and easy to pick, and the prices were super reasonable ($3.50/lb cash or $3.75/lb credit card) We loved our trip to Yosemite but I get the feeling any future trips to Yosemite won't feel complete with a stopover for some fruit picking. read more

Ott Farms is a huge blueberry and cherry farm in Modesto, where you pick and pay. Blueberry season opened up in middle of May, and I was surprised to see so many rows and rows of blueberry bushes at the Ott Farms. Not all of the fruit is ripe, but you will likely find lots of round, plump, and juicy ones everywhere. Blueberry picking is actually fun and I highly recommend it! * Blueberries are super healthy and so delicious - eat them fresh, make pies or muffins, blend in yogurt, smoothies, compotes, etc. * Pricing is just $3/lb if you pay cash. $3.25/lb for card. * The bushes are mostly under 6-feet tall, so its really easy and relaxing to pick. No squatting in the open sun like strawberries, or practicing your vertical (jump ball) for cherries. * I found fruit picking actually relaxing and therapeutic. You can sample the product while you work and its just cool to hunt for the perfect shape or color of your berries. Just when you get some good ones there's more that you'll find! We had less luck with cherries. Either all the trees were picked bare a few weeks ago or maybe the professionals came in. There were no "low-hanging fruit" but after a few minutes we still managed to fill about 1.5 buckets between three families. I look forward to blueberry season every year, it's the same excitement as Christmas! BUT the experience at Ott farm today wasn't pleasant. The young people working the entrance and exit/ pay area are rude, have no customer skills what so ever! They would rather talk to the other people working than so much as look at you, herding everyone in and out like cattle, no pleasant greeting, a welcoming smile. Just smug looks like we're an inconvenience. Also that "Beer fund" can... yeah, not very suitable decor for a "family oriented" event. People have family killed by drunk drivers! I find it quite tacky. There's other better farms, I try to support all, but sorry Ott farm is off my list to recommend. Teach your staff manners and service skills, we all don't HAVE TO go there. read more

It is a pretty nice farm to pick blueberries and cherries, and at a pretty good price ($3.00 Cash $3.25 Credit). But, there are no decent restrooms, and a lot of dust flying around. There a lot of blueberry and cherry trees. Blueberry trees have many ripe blueberries. Meanwhile, cherry trees have very few cherries, unless you go to the end of the rows. Coming to Ott Farms, you don't need to bring your own bags and buckets - Ott Farms provides it. Cherry and Blueberry Picking - 4 stars * Parking Parking at Ott Farms is very easy. There are staff members guiding you into a parking spot. Although it might be kind of far to walk to the entrance, but it's very easy to park. Parking - 5 stars * Theft Lining up in line to pay, they check everyone's personal items to see if you have stolen their blueberries and cherries. I feel like I have no privacy, even if it is a very small bag; they check it. Also, they have staff members around the farm to make sure no one "escapes" the farm with their cherries and blueberries. If you stole their fruit, they would take away the blueberries/cherries that you've picked; not letting you buy it. They would tell you to leave and never come back. Honestly, the staff at Ott Farms are pretty kind about theft. But, they should trust their customers. Theft - 2 stars * Service We lined up and asked for two separate bags. But, they ignored us. I understand how it's hard to take care of all the customers during rush hour, but you should still listen. We asked many times, until they "slammed" a bag at us; not helping us separate it. Honestly, I don't think their staff members are very kind; although most of their staff are probably students. Arrived @ 10 AM Sunday (05/20/2018) Stayed for 2ish hours -plenty of ripe blueberries to pick. Not as much cherries though Ott Farms has blueberry and cherry picking. Cherry trees provide great shade from the sun, while blueberry bushes do not. I believe they have different types of blueberry grown here. -i saw a group having a picnic underneath the cherry trees which is a pretty neat idea The process -grab [a] bucket(s) [set out on a table when you enter]-they provide buckets for you -fill bucket with any blueberries (ripe when dark blue black shade) and/or cherries (make sure to pick the big,red ones) -bring bucket back to the front area to pay. They pour your bucket contents into a plastic bag and weigh them. -fyi: if you carry a larger bag inside, they will ask to search it when you exit. They searched my backpack Price: $3.00/ lb with cash or $3.25/ lb with credit card -ended up buying $37 (cash) worth of blueberries and cherries (two full buckets of blueberries and one 2/3rds full bucket of cherries) Bathrooms = Porta potties (portable toilets) -i think they had 7 or 8? at the front. The one i went to was decently clean. No hand sanitizer, but there is a water faucet station near the front to the left of the porta potties. All you can eat blueberries and cherries while you pick, take some home for $3/lb cash, or an up-charge of $3.25/lb credit. I didn't bother with cherries because I'm not a fan, and apparently they're not good anyway because my family decided to stop by a different farm to pick cherries after. The blueberries were abundant and tasty, but I only managed to pick two pounds before the heat got unbearable. I was also limited by only picking blueberries without spiderwebs on them, and there were many, so this is definitely not an arachnophobia-friendly place. They are open this season Thursdays-Sundays from 8a-3p. Last day to pick for 2017 is June 18th. Parking is in a dirt lot, no shade. This might be a no-brainer, but make sure you wear closed-toe shoes. Also wear sunscreen and a hat. Do not bring your own buckets or bags, they will only allow you to use their white buckets. Absolutely no picnics allowed inside. There are some bugs, but not enough to warrant bug spray (probably well-controlled with the spider population). Bathrooms are port-o-potties only. read more

I have been here in the past years with my family and they keep improving their parking and how organized it is. This was an enjoyable experience for my children. We found blueberries very easily. Cherries were not plentiful, you have to look at the trees way in the back far corner and most cherries are too high up. You grab a bucket at entrance and pick blueberries from different colored ribbon areas. At the Exit, They transfer your berries unto a plastic bag, then weigh it on the way out, you pay $3 per pound. So I usually pay around $12 for mostly blueberries and a few cherries. Great rate for delicious fresh blueberries. Tip: 1: Wear a hat and comfortable walking shoes 2: Only pick the dark red or almost burgundy cherries. Those are sweet. 3: Collect blueberries that are ripe, dark blue and larger, the ones with green hue are tart. 4. Come well before they close (Sunday they close by 3pm) The earlier in the day, the cooler is it. *The employee also taught us that if the cherries get picked before they are ready, they never ripen. read more

I've never been any kind of fruit picking and my family and I enjoyed ourselves. Parking - there are ushers to kind of flag you in the right direction to leave but it's quite hectic. I would arrive early, as in when they open, in order to avoid any hassle and to get a shady spot. If the lot is full, you can just keep going down to park anywhere, but it gets so crowded, it becomes a one way street. Beware - there are lots of mainland Chinese there. So expect delays in parking and also even getting out. There's one way in to grab buckets and one way out to weight/pay. It is cash only and as of May 2016, it's $3/lb for both cherries and blueberries. Blueberries - There are different types of blueberries around. Some were tiny and sweet, some were plump and more blueberry tasting. You'll just have to try to pick them all ;) Definitely don't pick any red or green ones as they aren't ripe yet. Cherries - cherry trees galore! There are many signs to tell you not to climb them because of the liability, but you can get smart and bend branches down to grab them. Be sure to get the ones that come easily off the stem and a darker color as they are more ripe :) Things to bring - blanket and picnic food if you want to take your time and enjoy the picking. This is a little hidden gem of the Central Valley. A great place to bring the whole family and grab a bucket to pick fresh cherries and blueberries. Upon arriving, you get a plastic bucket and directed to the areas where you may pick your own fruit. The farm staff will weigh it for you and you pay for what you picked. Trust me! It adds up fast! Bring cash- they only take cash. It's a farm, so it's perfectly dusty, unpaved, & sunny & hot. There are different varieties of blueberries. We came home with about 10 lbs of fruit for about $30. The taste was awesome! Overall it was quite a drive out here, but it was so worth it. The kids love picking (and eating) the fruit. The staff working there was very friendly. I love the blueberries here! I was here for about an hour and loved walking up and down the aisles. I picked about 10 pounds of fruit and am happy with my purchase. Overall, I would recommend coming here! On another note, I noticed that the employees were not wearing masks. I thought I would be focusing on all the blueberries but it gets sorta boring and the hunt is more fun with cherries. They are $3 a pound for either if you pay cash and more if you credit. There is no picnic area but I did see people bring blankets and get shaded under the cherry trees. I spent about 2 hours there picking and was quite exhausted and hungry. Somehow people got buckets and buckets and I was struggling until I found some good trees. Overall a great fun experience. They also provide water for you to drink, wash your berries, and public potties. They'll bag them for you them weigh and pay at the end. Don't mind the few cents of cost. Honestly the fruits there are great, but the people who working there are on the opposite side. As I was walking down to the cashier with my recycled hand bag(the bucket they gave is to small for my 5lb cherries and its limited 1 per person), a lady with the ott farm t-shirt showed up and yelled to me 'why are you putting our cherries in your own bag and trying to steal them?' As she was talking to me, she started to search another empty bag I held on my other hand without my permission. I don't know why she was accusing me like that when I was still in the farm walking to the cashier and trying to pay for their cherries. But the search is very rude and it erase all the good memories I have for this farm over the years. I will definitely come back next time with my friend, who owns a law firm. Honestly I never write a bad review for a place since I always understand things do happens and it might have a long story behind. However, this farm that I went (OTT) was my worse PEOPLE experience. You wonder how bad can a u pick farm gets (you basically already going in excepting no service and it's all about the fruit), it can get really bad. Lets make it short and not have to think about this place and people again. Bad service and no service. Line is long and cashier can't make changes. People follow you everywhere you go and make sure you don't steal. A friend of mine got the same experience but her was worse since the owner of the farm accuse her of stealing. (she walked her kids to the car, a 2 yr and a 5 yr, and accused stealing while she was heading back to the counter and pay) Workers are rude and didn't even apologize after they admit it was their mistake misunderstanding my friend. Returned last 2 years because of great first experience but I second the other reviewer's note of rude service and comments to Asians. Staff gives a bitter vibe, and rude looks to the MANY Asian customers, which doesn't make sense because they buy A Lot. Lines are long and staff don't care when people cut to the front.
