I'm sorry about my last review but really the air condition issue was so bad! I'm eating there for the second time after they fixed the AC , it's now good! From the beginning I said that the food here is really amazing!!! I tried the both kinds of Döner and the Iskender!! They are amazing! I'm planning to try more items but I can't go there without eating lamb-beef Döner first then it makes me full! My tip for you is to ask them nicely to switch the French fries with rice, eat the rice with the lettuce and Tabasco hot sauce. Then use the other toppings with the Döner! Then till me how awesome am I after that! Lol The owner is very nice friendly person and I really wanna thank him for his very nice attitude all the time, he put his heart in this place and he will see that rewarding him and his business! My husband wanted to try out the mixed grill at this hole in the wall. It comes with rice, onion salad and fries. I had explained to the person on the phone, when I placed the order that I didn't want fries, I would be ok with some extra salad instead. She seemed like she got it and was agreeable to the idea, but her English was poor and she didn't get it, instead she tried to charge us extra for another salad, we gave up and left the salad and took just the grill box which was rather small for $23. After reading all the numerous reviews below I thought the best bet was to try the Iskender. I ordered the beef and lamb Iskender - knowing full well when you order lamb things can go good or bad. Usually, the right restaurants know how to cook lamb in a way that the intrinsically distinct lamb smell/ taste becomes more subtle- as it can easily overpower everything else. Sadly, this was not the case here. The lamb overpowered the rest of the dish so completely that it was hard for me to taste anything else. The bread was a bit soggy with the sauce, but that was a given. On the plus side - the portion size is HUGE - enough to share with one other person, they are definitely not stingy on the meat. The meat itself was nice and crispy without being dry - so I assume perhaps just getting another dish may have been more eventful than this. But based on the lamb I give it a 3 stars since I have seen it done better before at other places. Sutluc was pretty good btw so I highly recommend that! The meal cost me about $20 or so and could have easily fed two!! It definitely is a bang for your buck - I am pretty sure if I had tried the chicken or liked very gamey smell/taste of lamb I would have liked this a bit better and this would have been 4 stars. read more

Sadly I have to write this review. I recently ordered a large spread from Ottoman Kitchen to include all of their signature offerings. I got the chicken Iskendar, beef iskandar, Adana kabab and several other items. The group I was with was very familiar with Turkish cuisine. Long story short, nearly everyone got food sickness. The Adana kabob meat was undercooked (it was clear the meat skewers are put the freezer and pulled out when ordered, thus the meat is not properly cooked). The Iskandars included the tomato based sauce which was not fresh. Both were extremely salted. This was not a good representation of Turkish food. Over priced and not fresh. I love Turkish food but would never recommend this place. read more

Popped in for a quick lunch of Donner kabab sandwich/wrap while out near Chantilly. Located in the Dulles Expo center strip mall, I was the only one there. My order was promptly taken, prepared and I picked it up. The place is clean and well lit. The Donner wrap was good, but a bit bland; the tzatziki sauce helped. The accompanying fries were soggy, having been kept warm by a heat lamp, I suspect. What was interesting was the lack of any real customer service or interaction. I bet there were not 10 words spoken while I was there and I used 5 words to order. The cashier and the kitchen cook (owner?) each separated to opposite corners of the restaurant and were ensconced in their mobile phones. All the while the TV is blaring out sports. Simple and delicious is probably the two words I'd used to best describe this place. It is a family run business which is very new very to see these days. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The place itself is clean and simple like the food. I've been here a couple of times and loved it each time. True Turkish doners are hard to come by but this place hits the mark. I've ordered both the chicken and the lamb & beef and both were very good. I would definitely recommend people give this place a try. I don't know where this has been all my life! OK, yes I do. It's been in Turkey and in the highly underrated Turkish restaurants around town. I decided to try this place to change up my lunch routine and be a bit adventurous on an otherwise lackluster Wednesday at the office. Boy, am I glad I took a chance on Ottoman Kitchen! When you walk in, you're met with the smell of spices and cooking meat. Yes, folks, MEAT. On a stick, rotating against a heat source. I'm sure there's a technical term, but the result is out of this world. The ordering counter is clean and white, open to the very bright and clean kitchen, and there are several Turkish appetizers and desserts on display in the case. Three words: Chicken Doner Iskender. A bit pricey at $13.95, but the keyword here is "Iskender." It refers to the delicious, buttery-but-not-greasy tomato-based sauce they top the large portion of chicken with before finishing it off with a yogurt (and sour cream?) sauce and grilled vegetables. There are also little crouton-sized pieces of bread at the bottom. Those little jewels have the enviable job of soaking up the delicious sauce that falls past the (again-LARGE) heap of perfectly spiced and tender chicken pieces. No funky chicken here, folks. The meat almost melts in your mouth and appears to be all white meat, slow roasted on that genius rotating stick and just waiting to be devoured. Maybe next time I'll try the wrap, because the meat was really THAT good, but it will be hard to not order the Iskender again and again. read more

Finally! A real doner kebab place! I've had doner kebabs in Europe, and they are amazing. Why oh why does DC not get doner kebab right. They all serve mostly the gyro pressed meat variety, which is nowhere near a close to a doner kebab! The gyro meats are processed, blended low quality meats that don't taste like beef or lamb, it tastes more like a beef version of spam. Doner Bistro in Adams Morgan doesn't get it right either, they use only beef meat with a super thick bread, you don't taste anything but bread. Here's how Ottoman Kitchen does their doner kebab. First, they start off with WHOLE meat, not pressed gyro crap, whole beef and lamb mix. There are chunks of fat and meat, and it's all delicious. The doner sandwich (not wrap) also comes in an authentic pita that you would find in Turkey, thin holds the meat together, and they also grill the pita bread as well, you see grill marks on the bread. They also put veges on the outside, but I put it in, and put in a lot of tzatziki sauce as well. It's one delicious, filling doner kebab sandwich, and is the closest to what I had in Europe, nothing else has come close (maybe Divan, but I still like this one better). The service was also great, the cashier was so nice and so were the owners. You can tell they put their heart into this business. The owner said his meat is always fresh, never frozen. I've seen other greek places where they take gyro meat out of a freezer and fry it on a griddle, disgusting! read more

Today was our second visit to this restaurant -- both times I got the Lamb and Beef Doner Iskender, which was absolutely delicious. The first time we came here, we also got some baba ganoush, which comes in a to-go container for $4.95 -- there was plenty to enjoy with our meal and take the rest home. This time, however, we got two! It is marvelous -- and it won't last long in our house. Service was very prompt and friendly. The restaurant is an easy walk around the corner from the Dulles Expo Center, which we visit frequently (DC Big Flea, International Gem and Jewelry Show, and so on). I was searching the googles for Virginia places and found Ottoman Kitchen has the traditionally shaved lamb meat on the vertical spit to make proper Döner Kebab and I had to try it. (I haven't been able to find shwarmas that do this.) I walked in and was greeted so nicely by the older Turkish man who might have been the owner or head chef. He made me laugh right off with jokes about the cold weather we've been getting. Then he made the lamb-and-beef döner wrap, I watched in anticipation. We had a below mediocre experience here. My adana kebab was fresh and tasted good. However, my rice was only half-cooked. My mom's chicken doner was pre-cut and smelled bad, like it was days old. It was also really cold. We asked if it was meant to be served cold, to which they replied no, it wasn't. The waiter then insisted on touching it with a gloved hand, tried to microwave it (my mother refused) and then grilled the old chicken. It smelled even worse. One thing the DC metro area seems to have going for it is there are a lot of good Middle-Eastern restaurants in the area. Ottoman Kitchen is no exception. But like any worthwhile dictator, I'm going to mostly dismiss his opinion & give the rating I think is right First, to all the folks super upset about the AC situation, they've remedied that. It was actually chilly in there on an August afternoon. The food is authentically Turkish. So folks looking for Arab Shawerma doused in Tahini & sumac, won't find it here. It was different but I liked it. The salads were really good. Service was efficient. Prices were great. They might want to expand the drink menu & add something funky. Service could probably be a bit enthusiastic & friendly. Restaurant is super clean & it's an awesome small business that is bringing unique & ethnic food to the mostly lackluster scene in the Northern VA burbs.
