What a great little breakfast cafe in downtown Pittsburg, Kansas! Made from scratch breakfasts are a pleasant change from causal dining and fast food. Everything we had was good, from the omelettes to the pancakes and biscuits and gravy. And the prices were what you expect to pay in a small college Kansas town. Worth stopping for any morning.

What a neat little place and the breakfast was so good! When we first walked in, all the locals kinda stopped and looked like who are THESE people? I don't think too many non-locals go here....or maybe it was a slow day! But everyone was super nice so it was fine; just kinda funny! Or maybe we were getting stares because we just rolled out of bed and had planned on eating at the hotel, until we saw the breakfast selection...or lack thereof. Anywho, they had a pretty big breakfast selection and the prices were decent; sadly all they have is Pepsi products, but that's typical around here with the Pepsi bottling plant. We both got the #1 Breakfast Special with 2 eggs, mounds of bacon, hash browns, and either toast or biscuit and gravy. I got the biscuit and gravy and the biscuit was huge and the gravy had sausage in it....mmmmmm. The hash browns weren't shredded but were cubed, fried potatoes. Very good though I usually like the shredded kind better. The waitress was very attentive, and sweet although I kept waiting for her to say "Kiss My Grits" a la Flo from Mel's Diner... If you're ever in Pittsburg, check this place out....it was a great find on our last day there and better than the fast food breakfast choices!

The food was great, especially the pancakes. The overall place felt warm, and homey. I will definitely be back.

Tried to have dinner with a co-worker tonight. Hard to rate which was worse, the service or food…read more Both were so terrible that we actually wondered if we were on a local candid camera show. Our appetizers came after the food. The mozzarella sticks were so burnt / overcooked that cheese had mostly leaked out. The dynamite shrimp was barely lukewarm. When we mentioned this to our waitress, she said that we couldn't get our money back (not that we had asked) because we had tried it, but she could bring new. As we were 40 minutes into our visit, we declined. My friend asked for a roll, pointing to the menu and stating that his meal came with one. Again acting like we were trying to pull a fast one, the waitress declined telling us first that I brought you one when you sat down and then said "well I think we are out anyway." Salt, butter and a refill all were obtained by me, when after asking for (and not receiving after 5 or 6 more minutes), I went roving the dining room looking for anyone else to help us. My friend asked for lean brisket, and was punished for the request with a heap of fat that had a little meat attached. He did not eat one for full of that chewy mess. $82 later and we are heading somewhere else to get a dessert and just call that dinner. When we paid, we were asked "how was your dinner?" We we said "not good" , her answer was simply "oh no... well... here your bill, sign here." Recommend anywhere else.

Been a year or so since last visit. First notice was no upgrade to restaurant. Actually should be…read moreclassified as a high price dive bar. The place is kind of a dump. And oh boy, prices are way more expensive. Most steakhouses Dont even have chicken fried steak on the menu. But at Jims it went from $16 to $27. I got invited to go, not my pick. At $27 it was one of the cheaper options. The burger was $17, and fish sandwich was $19. And they come with nothing. To add fries they are $5 for off the truck frozen fries or $8 for "hand cut " fries. A baked potato is $10. Those prices may not be shocking at all fine dining restaurant, but Jims is just an overpriced dive bar. BTW, the chicken fried steak was huge. Impressive on the plate. I made sure to have the gravy on the side to not make the fry soggy. The fry was soggy and lukewarm warm in temp. Lack of seasoning and no crispness is best description. Side salad was something you would expect at a diner. Worst part of the iceberg lettuce. Highlight was the baked Idaho baked potato. Problem is they brought me cold to fozen butter in foil and very cold sour creme. I spent 10 minutes building the potato they could have spent a little time trying to wow me. Wouldn't matter, you could order the flagship $70 porterhouse and would end up with the same deal. Jims is an overpriced dive bar masking as a high end steakhouse
