Yummy ice cream with lots of interesting flavors. The staff is very adamant on trying all the different flavors which I did not mind. I ordered a vanilla macnut which was delicious. The ice cream is really good, however a little expensive, a single is 7 and a double is 11. Worth a stop if in the area or driving by. We love this place! They are so kind and the ice cream is delicious. You can tell it's made from fresh products and it just can't be beat. The staff are friendly and fun to talk to and always offer samples. We highly recommend Mango, Papaya, Chili Chocolate, Surinam Cherry, G-snap, and Oreo! All so good! It's nice and cool inside if you want to sit down and eat your ice dream. Or you can even eat out on the lanai if you prefer. The music is good and the restroom is clean and well maintained too! Unfortunately, this was a very uncomfortable experience. We ordered the cherry ice cream, which was okay (you could tell it was homemade, but nothing special). The bigger issue was the price: $7 for a single scoop and $11 for a double, which felt extremely high for the quality. The interaction with the man behind the counter, who appeared to be the owner, is what really ruined the visit. Someone in our group needed to use the restroom and was told it was for paying customers only, which was fair. After they came back out and went to purchase ice cream, he said, "Well I was gonna charge you for the bathroom anyways, so you may as well get something," in a very rude tone. There were additional comments that made the situation increasingly uncomfortable. He also attempted to hand out samples to everyone in our group. Some of us declined, and when we didn't immediately take them, he said, "Okay, never mind," in an upset tone and put them away. When another employee asked if we wanted to try anything specific, he dismissed us by saying, "No, they don't want to try anything," without letting us respond. To make matters worse, we watched him step outside and yell at multiple cars that parked in front if they weren't immediately coming in to buy ice cream. To be fair, the woman working there was kind and polite, but the overall experience felt hostile and off-putting. Between the attitude and the very high prices for mediocre ice cream, this is not a place I would return to or recommend to others. read more

Delicious ice cream with both local fruity flavors and classic flavors. Come here after the Pololu Valley hike for the perfect cold treat! Upon walking in, we were greeted warmly and they proactively suggested flavors to sample - ginger snap, lemon, strawberry, lilikoi. We then also tried the matcha and mint chip. All the flavors were good. I ended up getting a double (2 scoops) with strawberry and matcha - winning combo! Strawberry is fruity and has actual strawberry chunks. Matcha is a great balance of tea-flavor but also naturally sweetened with local honey. Easy parking spots right outside (their own lot) and clean bathroom was well. When we reached Hawi, our first stop was at Our Founding Farmers ice cream shop. My wife had a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of ginger snap, while I had a scoop of mango and a scoop of passion fruit. All four of our ice cream scoops were delicious. The guy in charge gave us at least 4 samples to taste while we waited to order and we didn't request any of them. Outstanding service. read more

Mean, not helpful, disgusting, smelly, bad quality. I walk into the store and I immediately get a whiff of ponis smell. it is clear, the tables and chairs have not been cleaned in a while. There was a man running the store, and he was a complete jerk and a weirdo. First of all, I saw him reuse the sample spoons without cleaning them which could lead to spreading sickness which was a major health concern. Second of all, he was not helpful one bit. I asked him if there were any flavors with coffee, he answered by asking me if I could read, and pointed at a cluttered, messy menu. Then my friend asked for a sample, and he told that if we didn't buy anything we "wouldn't get anything free out of him" unless we bought something, which my friend explained that we were all together (there were 6 of us who had already bought). My friend planned to buy an ice cream, but decided not to support such a rude man's business. After receiving my ice cream, my friend wanted to try some of it, so he requested a spoon so we could share. The man refused and told us "we don't do that here, but we do free samples of ice cream" (yet he denied one of our friends when they asked for one earlier). Aside from the rude man, there was also a female worker there who offered free samples to each of us and recommended a couple flavors, which we ended up buying. Its sad that such a kind person has to work with someone so toxic frequently. We hope that this rude attitude is adjusted in the future. read more

My family and I stopped here for ice cream after a long drive back from a tour more than an hour away. We chose this location because we had a wonderful experience during a previous visit when the owner was not present. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. After our long drive, several family members needed to use the restroom. The owner informed us in a very rude and hostile manner that we could not use the restroom unless we purchased something first. While businesses are certainly entitled to have restroom policies, the way this was communicated was unnecessarily disrespectful. The interaction only became more uncomfortable from there. While samples were being offered to customers, my mother was not given the opportunity to try a flavor that was being passed around. When there was an extra sample available, the owner abruptly took it away, stating that "too many people said no, so we won't be offering more of that." Additionally, the owner appeared irritated that my brother and sister-in-law chose to share a single serving rather than order separately. As paying customers, this felt both unnecessary and unwelcoming. The ice cream itself is delicious, which makes this experience even more disappointing. However, customer service is just as important as the product being sold. Based on the way our family was treated, I would not return or recommend supporting this business. There are plenty of places that serve great ice cream while also treating their customers with kindness and respect. read more

We were on a quest for ice cream while visiting the big island, and stumbled upon our founding farmers while driving north bound through Hawī. The lovely lady working behind the coolers immediately asked if we had any allergies which was much appreciated as someone with food sensitivities. She offered us about 5 different samples varying from Waimea strawberry to ginger snap, all made in house from locally sourced ingredients. The scoop sizes were generous and came in 1 or 2 scoop cup options. It was $7 per scoop, or $11 for two which seemed steep, but whatever were on vacation and the service was phenomenal. There was plenty of outdoor and indoor seating a designated parking lot. Additionally, they've got a bathroom, which was near impossible to find in the rest of the town area. Definitely recommend if you're in the neighborhood to make a stop for a sweet treat! read more

DO NOT come here !!!!!! The owner is odd. Spend ur money elsewhere and very pricey. Ice cream is nothing special. First thing I told him was I have a peanut allergy. I kept asking him to try the M&M's because that's usually my favorite flavor, but he showed me every other flavor. Besides the one I asked to try and at the end I said I'll take the M&M's but I had no idea they had peanuts and I walked out of there and ate ice cream that had peanuts in it. We had told him that we were all going to split two scoops of ice cream and when my friend went to go use the bathroom, he screamed at him and then told us you guys are all going to have to pay or is he a paying customer and we told him we're just buying one ice cream like we're all splitting and he had a huge problem about it. I got the **Rocky Road ice cream** and the **papaya gelato**, which sounds like a slightly chaotic pairing, but somehow it worked perfectly. The Rocky Road was rich, chocolatey perfection, and the papaya gelato tasted like a tropical vacation that decided to become dessert. And the customer service? Absolutely top-notch. The bald guy (MARK) was a complete A-hole!!! After we didn't want to try all of his favorites he got pissed and refused any other samples. Made sure we bought something even though my son has allergies!!! The music was so loud that when we mentioned allergies he snapped that he already mentioned that. He thinks his ice cream is the best thing on the earth.....it was ok. The young lady that came in was the only reason I was even able to get ice cream. This place is great! We saw a sign for homemade ice cream and decided to stop in and give it a try. So glad we did! The owner is super friendly and gave us tastes of all different kinds of flavors that were all delicious. We enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and would consider returning to try the acai bowls or dirty sodas next time we are on the Big Island, but we will likely look elsewhere for shave ice.
