DAY 2 of Vacation - After ziplining, we wanted to walk around the town. We stumbled upon this local shop and decided to grab some snacks before driving back to Kona. Ambiance/Environment: I love the open space. There were so many products, groceries, and food. There is also limited outdoor seating. Service: I didn't catch her name, but the owner was so nice and welcoming. She gave us good recommendations from the drink menu. Everything we got: 1) Maui Vera - I bought this reef friendly sunscreen. I was told regular sunscreen will not help, so I waited until we came out here to buy sunscreen. This sunscreen helped protect me from crazy sunburns. It is very thick and dries up quickly. It does leave you looking whiter than usual lol. 2) Smoothies - My ILs ordered the Hawaiian Superman, Strawberry Bliss, Chocolate Monkey, and Super Soursop. All these smoothies were recommended by the owner based on their preferences. They absolutely enjoyed their drinks. Perfect refresher after 2 hours of ziplining. 3) Tropical Dreams Ice Cream - My BIL got an 8 oz ube ice cream. We all took a spoonful to try it. Wow .. the ube flavor was unbelievable. Non-assuming and quaint local market/eatery/beauty products store. On our way around the norther tip of Hawai'i we stopped at Hawi, a little town nestled aling 270. Not far from the King Kamehameha statue. We ordered Taro Burgers and Rosemary Chicken Burgers... locally sourced and freshly made. The clerk who checked us out was super nice and helpful with our orders... A definte must stop if you are driving by! read more

What an incredible find in Hawi! A gem of a local market! Kohala Grown Market is a deli and specialty food market offering hot foods, smoothies, kombuchas on tap, and so much more! We stopped in on our drive south from Pololū Valley. If it was closer to where we stayed, I would have visited this market daily. Think fresh local fruits and vegetables, a variety of local snacks and drinks, beautiful floral bouquets, coffee.... I ordered a honey basil kombucha on tap and it was so refreshing after our hot and sweaty hike! We also purchased a few bags of local coffee beans and mushroom coffee. There are a few tables outside the market where we saw people sitting and enjoying food from the deli. We will be back to try more! If you're driving through Hawi, highly recommend a stop at this market! read more

This place is a gem. We loved the vegetarian options and the soft bread. I had the taro burger and it was yummy. My hubby tried the roast beef. It was tasty with lots of flavor. My friend Martha tried the black bean burger and she said it was delicious and ate every bite. Edwin tried the grilled cheese and enjoyed it. The pickles were tart and the chips were crunchy. I loved the ginger beer too. You wait it line to order but the service is excellent. Everyone was friendly. It is a casual outdoor dining spot so find a seat and grub! read more

Sunday 3 pm food service was closing but they took our order anyway! Such kind ALOHA! We ordered two Caprese sandwich's one with and one without chicken. We have been eating out daily and we have been on the Big Island for 4 weeks. I can say without hesitation this was the highest quality food we have eaten. Ono Loa in Kona was wonderful also (their Ono fish sandwich was grilled to perfection). Kohala Grown Market Caprese sandwich: The bread was soft and fresh, the tomato flavorful, spinach clean freshly grown and generous. They flavored the bread with olive tapenade and a pesto drizzle. The chicken was also placed on the sandwich in perfectly sliced pieces. Everything was well balanced, and no flavor dominated. Well-balanced delicious and healthy. Food art!!! We ate outside at the tables provided. The market inside was clean and well organized. Friendly, helpful staff. read more

Do not miss this incredible little market!!! I got the best taro burger here - little pricey but so unique and delicious with soft yummy bread and perfect toppings, also comes with chips and a pickle. It's made to order so a little slower after you order at the counter but we took the opportunity to souvenir shop all the local goods and buy some fresh rambutan for dessert. Everyone is super friendly and it is the perfect meal to have before (or after) hiking Waipio Valley. The little town is cute with art galleries and little stores as well. read more

Amazing market! Super local and very fresh items. We bought apple bananas, mangoes, and they were so fresh and we ate them on the spot. We also got the Hawaiian Superman smoothie and it was delicious. Earthy, sweet, and yummy! The cashier was super sweet and very talkative to us about all of the questions we had! An awesome little find as we drove through Hawi. The guys in our group opted for Mexican food a few stores down. My friend and I opted for delicious smoothies, recommended by store staff: Blue Flame and Kohala Sunrise. We got them as smoothie bowls and both were delightful and refreshing as we returned from a long trek to Mo'okini. The store has other prepared food as options too. The coconuts were reasonably priced, a lot better than other vendors along the side of the road. read more

Delicious smoothies! The pineapple ginger was amazing. The ingredients were fresh and the shop is lovely.

We drove up from Waimea today to see what restaurant options are in this area. We tried a strawberry banana smoothie, black bean mushroom burger, and rosemary chicken plate lunch. The staff members were friendly, the food was prepared quickly, and I was impressed with the many vegetarian options. The black bean burger was one of the best I have tried on the island. The toppings were complementary and the sauce was ono! The smoothie was excellent and the plate lunch was very filling and healthy. We appreciated all of the local products available, as well. Overall, this was very enjoyable and I plan on returning! read more

We just had the best smoothie we've ever consumed here! Wow. It was called "Hawaiian ___". Obviously all the superfoods within it didn't help our memory, haha. Anyway, HUGE smoothie selection. Also a lot of fun unique gifts and snacks. They also are the ONLY place we could find that sells an Aloe product that only has Aloe in it! It's called "Maui Organics". It's been working GREAT! Wow! This very unique and remarkable spot combines elements of local and organic produce with deli-like sandwiches and other dishes that are flavorful and interesting to enjoy. Laid back but warm service and a really friendly vibe so typical of this little town. Worth a trip just to say you've been there. My wife and I split a roast beef sandwich, fruit smoothie, and several frozen desserts and all were excellent. This is the cutest little store on the island! I love that they support their community and the island by only selling locally sourced products. The produce that they sell is better than anything you'll find in any of the grocery stores, is all organic, and absolutely delicious. Leo, the owner, made me a smoothie that was to die for. I highly recommend adding macadamia nuts to your smoothie. It sounds weird but it makes it so rich and creamy! I also like that they don't carry any of that cheesy Hawaiian touristy crap that all the other shops sell. Their items are unique, thoughtfully chosen, and beautifully displayed. I highly recommend the bread fruit hummus, paired with the Taro chips. Sooooo good! read more
