I usually order saganaki, but saw Feta Psiti ($19) and had to try it. It's described as "baked feta wrapped in puff pastry, finished with a sprinkle of sesame & a drizzle of honey." It was absolutely delicious and could absolutely be a not-too-sweet dessert. Then I had the Paidakia appetizer ($29) - 2 lamb chops cooked perfectly with lemony Greek potatoes and asparagus. Yum. Was in the area and decided to drop in for happy hour. Happy hour is only at the bar. This place is so cute! There is also dog friendly outdoor seating. Food was good. The spanakopita was delicious. Pastry was flavorful and flaky and the filling was yummy. I also had the meatballs. You get three meatballs for six dollars. I thought that was a little steep for 3 regular sized meatballs but they were scrumptious. The bartender was awesome. My wife loves Greek food, so I took her here for our Valentine's-Eve date night. It did not disappoint. First, the service was fantastic. We were welcomed immediately by the hosts and promptly led to our table. Our waitress was friendly and managed to appear at our table at exactly the right moments throughout. The food came out quickly, but without rushing us on from appetizers to entrees. They were pretty much fully booked, but the service seemed to be going off without a hitch across the whole restaurant. We started with an order of tzaziki and an order of grilled halloumi. The tzaziki was delicious and well portioned... enough that you could probably split it four ways, and splitting it for two, we each got plenty but finishing it was achievable. And, they mastered the rare art of giving exactly the right amount of pita for the amount of spread. The grilled haloumi was also a good sized block, and was topped with grape preserves and arugula... the arugula and preserves were great compliments to the cheese. For entrees, my wife got the mixed grill, with beef, lamb, chicken, potatoes, asparagus (and I feel like I'm missing something). She really liked it. And the bite of steak I tried was good. I got the Thalassina, which was magical. The sauce was perfect for the dish, and portion of seafood was very generous. I tried their "Greek sangria" cocktail, which might have been a special, and it was pretty good, and very fun because they used a mix of cordials and liquor to approximate a spritzy version of the flavor of sangria in an unexpected way. The vibe inside is great. The friendly servers and happy customers were part of it. But, the decor is also nice. It's artfully done Mediterranean decor that has a modern feeling crispness to it, and touches that feel higher end, but within a kinda laidback Mediterranean palate that leaves it feeling a little upscale but not at all uptight. When I first skimmed the menu, it did look a bit pricey for a dinner in Shirlington, and Im sure some orders could get there, but when we got our bill, the total turned out to be in the normal range for what we'd wind up paying for a comparable experience anywhere else. Granted, ymmv. Everything about our experience at Our Mom Eugenia was great. It'll definitely be in heavy consideration for future occasions that call for a nice dinner in Shirlington. read more

Very nice greek restaurant with a menu that can be a bit overwhelming. You can have a feast here and spend a lot of money, but portions are big so if you order judiciously you can have a very nice meal on just a couple of appetizers. Old standards like moussaka, spanikopita, saganaki, and spreads like skordaliá and taramosalata are done well here but can add up. Tell them when you sit down not to bring the bread until the appetizers arrive. It's best hot and you'll probably want it with your food. If your mom cooks like this, you better count your blessings for this lip-smacking experience! The staff that greeted me at the entrance mentioned that they do take reservations for Friday and Saturday nights because they are quite busy. So, I sat at the bar. I was welcomed by the bartender and was given two menus. I looked over the menus quickly and asked for a Tito's and Sprite to start. The bartender was busy, so a gentleman, who seemed to be the owner, asked me if I was ready. I told him yes and that it was my first time there. I also asked him if I could order their Melitzanosalata and Paidakia Appetizer (Lamb Chops). Which he helped me to pronounce correctly. Neither one have I tried before. The Melitzanosalata was tasty, and as a reminder, if you don't eat all the bread, save it. You will need it for your main course or in my case, their meat appetizer. Now that item Paidakia Appetizer (Lamb Chops), was Omg mind-blowingly delicious. The flavor, taste, juiciness and the ability to actually hit Medium on this kind of meat was on point!!! Their asparagus was not some flimsy style that you see in restaurants of lower caliber. It was the big, thick kind that was nicely prepared and you could crunch into it. Just the appropriate level of seasoning to bring out the flavor of the meat. A little extra broth allowed me to put that extra bread to use. Wiped the plate clean! Highly recommend this item for the ladies or for anyone that is not trying to take the whole lamb, their main entree, in one sitting. Bariatric foodies will enjoy this as well. From wine, to delicious libations, this is definitely a place to come and just enjoy delicious food, conversation and fellowship with this you know and those you don't know. From the hostesses, to the servers, to the crew that provides water and takes your plates, it shows the attention to detail shines through that the owners are thinking about the customer. Quick Notes for the manager / owner. I was not provided a run down of the daily specials or drinks, that I noted, the bartender did provide to other customers after me. I was not sure if there were desserts to partake of because it was not mentioned either. I was full so I didn't ask, but would have liked to see the options for desserts because my friends can put some food away, including desserts. This was our first time at Our Mom Eugenia. We are visiting from Chicago, and I grew up in my father's diners and I am Greek. I read up about the restaurant and was intrigued as I have been to Zakynthos several times to venerate St Dionysius. The food was excellent but the service was terribly lacking. Our server appeared uninterested and disengaged in our experience. For example, the server picked up a drink that "appeared" completed but didn't ask if they were done and removed it. He didn't ask if the guest wanted another drink. When he came back and the guest asked for a second drink, he didn't ask if anyone else wanted a second drink. When one guest asked for more water, he removed the one glass and brought another. Other guests water glasses were half empty, but he didn't ask if anyone else wanted more water. The final insult was when he arrived at the table at 8:43 and stated that the kitchen was closing at 8:45!!!!!! Really? You are going to give guests who had a 7:30 reservation. 2 minutes notice that the kitchen was closing. The service was not up to par for this restaurant. read more

This place nickel and dimes you. When you are already looking at a $50 to $60 bill for one person without alcohol it adds up fast. I was disappointed to learn that complimentary bread is no longer provided with soup and is now an additional $2.50. I have not been in a couple of years so I was not expecting the change but I still find it offensive. Bread is one of the least expensive items to offer. Greek restaurants are already higher in cost so this felt unnecessary. As always I enjoyed the Avgolémono and the oven lemon roasted potatoes. I also tried the Kotopoulo Fileto chicken breast filet. The grilled chicken was juicy and flavorful but I did not care for the fasolakia braised green beans. Service was hit or miss. My server was not attentive. They took my order and did not return until it was time to bring the check. That said other servers including one who I later learned was the manager along with the busser were extremely friendly and attentive which helped balance the experience. read more

We got the flaming cheese, spanakopita, zucchini fritters, three spreads (eggplant one is our favorite), steak skewers and grilled octopus. Everything was wonderful! The service was great and quick! I was a solo dinner seeking a table for one and they sat me. Let's talk about my recent experience with Greek food that, quite frankly, left me wondering if "fresh" was just a suggestion. I ordered lamb, but when it arrived, it was so lukewarm, I thought maybe it had just been airlifted from a fridge to a 30 second microwave, and then on its way to my table. So, naturally, I sent it back, hoping for some warmth--because, you know, that's what hot food should have. When it came back, well, it still had the same "room temperature" charm. But hey, I was hungry, so I ate it anyway, giving "meh" a whole new meaning. But the real kicker? The manager, who decided to go full Greek drama on me, practically shouted that the food was indeed fresh--freshly made, not pre-cooked, and definitely not sitting around. His tone was so harsh I half-expected him to break into a monologue about the tragic downfall of Greek cuisine. I was honestly in shock. I wasn't asking for a speech, just for my food to be hot. To top it all off, my waiter was a one-man show, juggling drinks at the very busy bar while taking order fat my table. I get it, multitasking is hard, but I wasn't in a rush. That said, when the food finally did arrive, it had a chill vibe that didn't exactly scream "cooked to order." Would I go back? Absolutely not. There are over a dozen $6 food options to choose from including salads, small bites, dips and sweets. There are also so many craft cocktails (many made with Greek spirits) and drinks on the happy hour menu for $5-8. I choose the Greek mule and and several snacks. Everything was absolutely delicious. Welcome to Shirlington! Our Mom Eugenia is just the delicious and Greek food Shirlington needed. We had been waiting eagerly for their open so we snagged a reservation as soon as we could. The ambiance here is quite lovely. Spacious and bright with a very personable staff, Tanya took great care of us. I was quite impressed by how well everything was running despite it being just second day of opening. We ordered a feast for the two of us, consisting of the Dolmades Yalantzi, Saganaki, Pastitsio, Thalassina, Apple Cake à la Mode and Loukoumádes with Honey. Everything was absolutely stellar. The saganaki is a must, for the fire show as well as ooey gooey melted cheese and a scrumptious brandy crust on top. My husband's absolute favorite was the pastitsio. He had grown up making them at Greek festivals and this lived up to his childhood memories. Mine was the Thalassina - the broth was slightly sweet with ouzo but a lovely acid from the tomato sauce and then the white wine. It came with bountiful mussels, calamari and shrimp. A feast for the eyes and palette, for sure. We were stuffed by dessert but still wanted to try out some of the offerings. It was my first time trying the Loukoumádes. My GOODNESS. It looks so simple, but executed with perfection. Fried dough in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and sesame. I had plenty and am already salivating just thinking about this dish. Picked up food to go here recently. For some reason there was a struggle to find my online order. I received email confirmation and saw a pending charge on my credit card but the restaurant staff were unable to locate it. I showed multiple staff screenshots/emails from my phone. The manager even took pictures. After a bit of a wait, they located it and started cooking. They were nice and the food was good.
