    Ancient Grains Bowl, V
    Jeff B.

Came here today for lunch with a couple of friends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very open and light (lots of windows), with a modern feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We each enjoyed our entrees, the weakest being the Ancient Grains Bowl. I really liked the spicy sauce in the Panang Curry. I would have liked a small amount of rice or even pasta to eat with the delicious sauce, but, alas, no. The service was fine. They serve water to the table that isn't chilled, so be prepared for that. And I drink a lot of water, and my glass was empty for a while until the server finally came around to fill it. That being said, once the server got the idea that I drink a lot of water, he did make an effort to check in more often. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My one issue with the place is that the music piped in - although very pleasant - is too loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We all remarked that it was tough to carry on a conversation over the loud music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Me and my wife wanted to try something different this weekend so we opted for lunch at True Food Kitchen in Ballston. I like the lunch we got, we tried the cauliflower my wife got a shrimp dish and I got a burger. Honestly, the food is on the healthier side and it's also extremely delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place for a nice healthy nourishing meal! The service was great and [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I came here for brunch with a friend. We were able to get a reservation just a couple days in advance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is ample seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a delicious quinoa and sweet potato bowl with chicken on top. The service was good, and we had a nice time. I thought the food was fresh and yummy. They have a large menu with a lot of options.

I came here on a Sunday for lunch with a friend. It's a large restaurant with a lot of open space. There weren't many people there so we were seated immediately. Our server was really helpful and checked on us regularly. For food, I had lasagna and it was just fine. For healthier food, I'm assuming the food probably has to have less flavor. The food was good but I just wish it was tastier. I would go again but probably not my first choice.

3.5 A true delight for vegetarian and vegan options. The food was good, especially if you're looking for vegan and vegetarian options. We both ordered the ancient grain bowls, which we enjoyed. However, there was a slight mix-up with our desserts -- both came out with caramel, including one vegan dish but overall, it didn't overshadow the good food and the enjoyable atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick, making for a seamless dining experience. The ambiance is great for a casual get-together with friends, as the space is light and bright, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I think the prices are in general a little high for a quinoa bowl, but on par with the surrounding Ballston Quarter.

Perfect midday visit to True Food Kitchen this week! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My friend and I got a quiet indoor table, and even though my friend was very late to lunch, everyone at True Food was welcoming for the two hours I was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was delicious, and the leftovers I took home were still excellent the next morning.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a wonderful, fresh place to dine![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After spending 5 days in DC/Arlington, eating at some fine, heavier restaurants, I was craving something lighter, fresher and green! True Food Kitchen was the place to go, to remind me how I usually eat back in the PNW. The Thai Shrimp Lettuce Bowls were the perfect starter! The wild-caught shrimp was fresh and snappy, the butter lettuce, cucumber, watermelon radish, asian herbs were crisp and flavorful, and the lemongrass almond sauce was delicious. Along with the shrimp bowls we got the Chinese Chicken Salad and Air Fried Chicken Tender Plate with Sweet Potato Chips. All excellent choices!! The salad was fresh, delicious and large portion! The chicken tenders were perfect, and the chips crunchy and tasty. Everything we ordered made my stomach feel so healthy; just good old fresh, healthy eating! We even ended the meal with the flourless chocolate cake. So, sooooo good. The waitress was sweet, helpful and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And, the restaurant itself had a PNW vibe to it! I felt very much at home with the decor and misty/rainy weather to boot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pricing was as expected for a restaurant and in the area. We will certainly return when we find ourselves back in Arlington.

Very good! Love this place. It's a bit expensive for lunch but I like it a lot. And so many gf options!

We were waiting on a family member who was having surgery at VHC, November 2025. We ordered for lunch, for delivery, from True Food Kitchen. The food was exceptional. I have to eat no bovine & no porcine, in any form. My sister has to eat GF. We called to verify a few items on the menu. They made sure of everything for us. No issues. Again the food was exceptional, very delicious, esp for ordering online and having it Ubered to the hospital. Hopefully we will get the chance to visit the actual brick & mortar restaurant one day.

Gluten free and dairy free cookie and ice cream.

The food was delicious! They took all of my food intolerants seriously. The server went back to check on all my food questions and concerns multiple times. I was able to eat so many food options here that I can not eat anywhere else. If you have food sensitivity you need to check this place out!

I loved everything about this place. The food was delicious, the ambiance was so relaxing and clean, and the service was top tier the waitress and manager checked in on us to make sure we were having a great time and we definitely did. We brought our toddlers and they had mini magnetic doodling boards for them to play with

My wife went to the Reston, VA location not too long ago, and since then it's been in our list for us to go to one so that I could enjoy too! Our closest one today was the one in Arlington, VA. Be ready to hunt for parking, it's not too easy in this area. We were seated immediately after walking in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is beautiful and ample.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got started with some refreshers (I got the Bright Eyes and she got the Kale Aid). We tried a seasonal market salad to share, and I loved it. Just enough dressing covered every bit, and it was a great balance of flavors and textures. My entrée ended up being the Chicken Parmesan and wow... that was amazing, from the chicken to the spaghetti squash. Server was great, giving us as much time as we needed to make our choices and regularly checking in on us throughout the meal. All in all, this was an amazing Sunday dinner, and the intention behind the way they source ingredients and prepare their foods is definitely noticed in every bite. Excited to add this to our rotation.

That thoughtfulness is one of the many reasons I was excited to try it. When we arrived, I was initially concerned after learning that the "G" on the menu indicated dishes **containing** gluten rather than being gluten-free. Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. She brought me the food allergy menu, answered my questions with patience, and made sure I understood what was safe for me to enjoy. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. If you have food intolerances or dietary restrictions, I hope this review gives you confidence to visit Ambar. Their team didn't just accommodate my needs. They made me feel welcome, respected, and cared for. That's the kind of hospitality that earns five stars from me.

We were celebrating an old friend's birthday, so I wanted a special evening. We went to the Signature to see "Safety Not Guaranteed" which was so good and so much fun. Then on to dinner at Carlyle in Shirlington. Carlyle always pumps out some of the most satisfying meals. You are almost guaranteed to love what the kitchen presents you with. This event was no different. I started with the crab & corn chowder. Thick, luxurious, savory perfection! My main course was Jambalaya Pasta which was outstanding. The chicken was moist, the shrimp was perfectly prepared and the andouille sausage added a perfect piquant note. The creamy sauce finished a great dish. There was so much that I could not eat it all (and I usually eat everything that is placed in front of me). But the best - the ABSOLUTE BEST - part of the evening was our perfect server Sebastian. He was professional, friendly, fast, funny, helpful and everything you want in a server. Plus, he did it all with one of the best personalities that I have ever come across in a server. At one point, we were all laughing so hard, that he had to sit down because he was ready to fall over. He served us, yes! But more than that - he ENTERTAINED US!!!! How often has that ever happened to you??? It is a night that I will not soon forget! Sebastian is a smart guy who will no doubt go far in his life. When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. She was running around and her tables seemed well cared for. Disappointed in my experience and the customer service.
