I am very happy with my experience working with the owner Adam. He is a hard-working military veteran like myself. The only difference is that he runs his own business single-handedly! He runs all aspects of the business so make sure you exercise patience with scheduling and communication. He is extremely thorough, but he might not be able to quickly respond since he could, quite literally, be out on a limb. Adam is trustworthy, straightforward and genuinely kind. He is passionate about his work and does a great job of explaining the "why's" and "how's" of the proper way to handle the job while taking care of the environment. He was the only quote we received and I felt very comfortable moving forward without shopping competition for a competitors quote. That's because his price was extremely fair and I had confidence in his work after interacting with him directly. We had a 30 foot tree taken down in our backyard and significant pruning done in our front yard. The job site was left immaculate afterwards. They came back and picked up one leaf that had fallen on the porch. Talk about attention to detail. Adam was very upfront about the cost basing it off the number of hours of the job and explaining all the aspects in detail. Adam is the owner and passionate arborist, was unbelievably helpful...even when I called him to buy some firewood, and found out his business doesn't sell any to begin with. Did he quickly get me off the phone? No. Did he dismissively mention a couple other people in the area to maybe look up? Not at all. What HE DID do was take 25-30 minutes of his time to help educate me as to what to look for in terms of buying firewood, what scams to look out for, and just be a good person in general and give me tips that will help me going forward when making my purchases. Since he's a certified arborist, he focuses only on Virginia. I can guarantee you that I will direct anyone I work with (or know at all) his direction when they need his services in terms of trees. Adam knew within 15 seconds that I wasn't going to be a customer giving him revenue this evening. He also took 20x that amount of time being a helpful resource for what I did need - and people remember that...like me. Adam Wingo is proof that heroes don't always wear capes. A big storm blew through our neighborhood recently and a big 80 foot oak tree in our backyard fell over and landed on the limb of another tree. It balanced there precipitously threatening to fall on our house. Unknown to us, the roots of the fallen oak tree had completely rotted away. It was a dangerous situation, so we called around frantically. A few other companies either refused the work as too dangerous or told us we needed a crane. Many companies weren't even open on the weekend. Another storm was threatening in two days, and the crane companies were probably several days from being available since trees were down throughout Northern Virginia. We weren't hopeful, but on a whim, we called Adam because another tree company actually suggested we call him. We called Adam on a Sunday. Not only did he take our call, but he patiently listened and thoroughly asked detailed questions about the tree and the situation we faced. Within ten minutes, he was on the road to us and would be our salvation. On the spot, he assessed the situation, committed to do the job without a crane and called his wife to tell her he wouldn't be home for dinner. It would be a very technical job and impossible for most, but it became very clear to us that Adam was not just another tree guy. Not only did he have very extensive experience, but he was also a certified arborist who was extremely knowledgeable about trees. Over the course of the next two days, he worked into the dark of night and safely brought down the tree. Then the very next day, another storm came through that almost certainly would've brought down the tree onto our house. Adam literally saved our home. In a crowded field of tree services with great ratings, Out on a Limb truly stands above the rest. It deserves six stars! We've used other tree services with five star ratings in the past, but Adam detailed why the past work done on our surviving tree was subpar. Adam thoroughly explained to us how to trim a tree differently that would actually strengthen the long term health of a tree. He even brings special electronic equipment to assess the health of a tree, listening to the insides of the trunk. He is truly a jedi master of trees. When Adam and his crew left, they left almost no trace that they had even been there except for the hole where the fallen tree had been. Out on a Limb recently removed nine trees from my yard and took the dead wood out of several others. This involved a lot of climbing, careful analysis, removal of limbs and massive tree trunks, and grinding down of stumps. The work was done efficiently and without incident and the workmen were unfailingly polite and serious about their responsibilities. I highly recommend Out on a Limb for any tree work that may be needed. Although the company did not split and stack the wood for me, they were able to recommend a man who could do so at a very low price. He was equally efficient and prompt. I now have two cords of firewood stacked and ready to become seasoned. Most importantly, I can rest comfortably knowing that the sickly trees and trees that were too close to the house no longer pose a threat, and I also have the satisfaction of knowing that the remaining trees will have the space they need to grow. Based on the awesome reviews posted by Yelp, I tried to contact Out on a Limb for tree work. I called several different times on different days. I never reached a human being. On each occasion an annoying high tech answer machine first stated that it would try to get Adam for me and then said he was not available, leave a message. Each time I left a message. Never got a call back. I also tried texting. That didn't work either. Zero response. I can understand that this company may be popular and may be booked up. In that case though I'd hope for the courtesy of a reply that there are no available appointments or an answer tape message that says the company is booked and not accepting new customers. Alternatively, perhaps their overly fancy high tech answer machine doesn't work well and is not capturing messages. Either way: Seems like poor customer service/business relations and tends to raise questions about overall professionalism. read more

Just had a great experience with Out on a Limb tree service. Bruce (the owner who is also a veteran) was very responsive and efficient in coming to give me an estimate. They were also able to schedule the job quickly. Here is what impressed me most. 1. They communicated with me all the way including any delays or concerns about weather. 2. When they carefully removed an extra fallen limb (for a nominal fee), they even reached over the fence to retrieve the part that had fallen on the neighbor's side. 3. They continued working even when the rain got really heavy. And made sure they finished the job. In that heavy rain they still cleaned up...even though it was way more difficult. 4. They came prepared with the gear and safety equipment needed to scale these big trees and do the work. These guys are veterans (though their youthful appearance belies their ages), and their integrity and strong work ethic really show. Part of a big tree in my backyard was knocked down by wind several days before Thanksgiving. At first, I called another company recommended by a neighbor for an estimate, but they responded very slow and didn't seem to be very responsible (the guy just put the estimation in front of my door with very awful handwriting). Then I searched Yelp and found Adam, he was very responsive and estimated for me personally the second day I called . Then I decided to choose his team. My HOA informed me that I needed to remove a stump at the rear of my fence. Initially I was just going to get a buddy of a buddy to take care of it on the cheap. Luckily he flaked. Out of the 4-5 arborist I called, Adam was not only the first to return my call (within 90 minutes), but also the only one able to provide an estimate that day. After coming out to look at the stump, Mr. Wingo suggested that the stump was more than likely not on my property. Based on that assumption, I submitted a request for waiver shortly thereafter. Adam Wingo saved Thanksgiving!! My cat was stuck up a huge tree in the woods behind my house. I was hysterical. I called Adam the Tuesday before the holiday and told him the situation. He came to my house within hours and was able to climb up the tree (80 feet) and save my cat!! He is kind and professional and was so good with my terrified cat. A neighbor had several dead and dying trees on their property over looking mine. They had not been agreeable to having them removed. The Fairfax County Arborist suggested that I have a Certified Arborist examine the trees and give me a written opinion regarding their safety. Adam Wingo advertised himself on www.goodtreecare.com as being a Certified Arborist as well as being certified in Tree Risk Assessment. He came to my home in April 2015 and examined the trees, promising to come back several days later for a further examination and to prepare a report. He never came back, and we never received a report. He was not responsive to voice mail regarding the matter. This resulted in a delay in my trying to find another arborist. One of the trees collapsed onto my property on 23 June 2015 causing more than $3,000 in damage. read more
