I've been coming to Outwest for over a decade, and this was even after I moved away from Petaluma down to SF. When a check engine light came on, I reluctantly took my car to a local dealership -- who then promptly tried to upsell me a whole bunch of things I knew I didn't need. I called Outwest, and Maria helped me figure out what was the most likely issue over the phone. Since driving my car on the highway wasn't going to be the safest option (and long distance towing just wasn't going to work for me at that particular time), she walked me through what I would need to ask for with a local independent auto shop. Second visit for a new issue- solved the dread CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (all EVAP fault codes ) in 2 minutes. My first visit a month ago was to redo and repair the wrong parts put on at another shop 2 weeks earlier( an emergency choice of that "garage" on a Saturday). OutWest did the needed repair for less than the first garage charged (the first garage refunded and apologized ) and my car runs like a Swiss clock , although it is a Toyota! Also mmentioned the may recommended actions were not indicated by my mileage, usage, and car's performance... No inflated suggestions ! My elderly mother lives in Petaluma, her situation is complicated, she is on a very fixed income, and is vulnerable to being taken advantage of, I step in where I can to help. With that said, she has an appointment at another shop to get a problem diagnosed, the diagnostic fee will be applied to the repair. Bearing that in mind, I wanted to find a reputable shop for a second opinion if the repairs estimate is very costly. I called Outwest and spoke with Maria, she offered to see my mom same day, even though we were nearing closing time and she offered a courtesy diagnosis ahead of my mom's existing appointment. I explained the complexities of my mother's situation and Maria treated me with such empathy - we hung up and I was literally in tears, I worry about my mom so much and I was simply overwhelmed by her kindness. read more

I've gone to this garage for years and have always gotten honest, friendly service. One time when I got stranded and had to call a mobile mechanic, he said this is the finest shop in Sonoma County for Japanese makes--and maybe the best, period. There are some shops that are a little cheaper, but Maria and Darrell let you know if something needs work before it becomes a more expensive issue. So which would you rather do--pay $225 twice or pay $250 once? read more

We were visiting Petaluma and our van wouldn't start. My husband called around to find a garage that could work on the van. After calling two places that were too busy, we were told to try Out West. Darrell at Out West heard the description of the problem, said yeah we can work on it and after the phone call, ordered a starter to be delivered that afternoon. Who gives old school real kind service? These folks! But they're ladies too! Great waiting room that doubles as a jam space. Play the instruments while you're there or do some art. I've used this shop for like 18 years. I was bummed to get a car they didn't service, but got a Mazda now they work on. They always have the best and beyond great service plus really nice pricing. After running around town trying to get new headlight bulbs installed on my Mazda CX7, I called Maria who said to swing on by, she would take care of me. And She DID! Within 10 minutes my lights were installed and I was on my way. While I waited, I enjoyed her cozy waiting-room filled with magazines, games, arts and instruments to help you pass the time. I almost wish it took longer so I could have really soaked in Maria's inviting atmosphere and listened to her sing along with the old-timey voice playing in her office. (not bad Maria!!) I've never been so disappointed in a shop before. I go with my girlfriend to get her cars maintenance here so she has a ride home but we've noticed how first, all the mechanics seem super sad and after witnessing Darrel belittle one of them we've decided to never come here again. We discussed how uncomfortable that made the both of us and how if he feels comfortable enough to talk to the mechanics like that in front of us, how do they get treaded when they don't have customers. I've also noticed that they have this service that's almost 400$ that includes an oil change and they just look at your car or "inspection " when I feel as if they should be doing that already. Very disappointing because being a women owned shop I assumed my girlfriend wouldn't get scammed but I guess you can't trust everyone. read more

Okay, they fixed the issue I went in for, which was a Transmission Solenoid. But, I asked for a quote on another small repair, and they said $180. I subsequently had that done at another shop for $56. They also said my brake pads were 10% on on end and 15% on the other, and quoted me $720 to do front and rear brakes. I've done brakes before, so I bought some brake pads, etc and got to work. Turns out I had a good 40-50% front and rear on the pads. I didn't need pads, I wasted time and money. I wouldn't trust them with my car again. NOPE. read more

they gave my Toyota Tacoma a perfect 100,000 mile tuneup. They did a terrific job, the price was very reasonable. My truck runs like new.

I took my truck in for an electrical issue and was quoted $160 for diagnostics. 20-minutes after dropping the truck off it was ready. Final bill, $34.23. One of the ways to assess a repair shop, to figure out if they are honest, is to look at what they do when given the opportunity to gouge. Out West Garage could have easily charged me $200 and I would never have known the difference. Out West Garage rocks! read more

I took my car in to get checked for something I wasn't sure about. I called just before closing to see how it was going and the gentleman (I could kick myself for not remembering his name!) was support kind and let me know they test drove it, checked out the engine and didn't find anything.
