I took my car in to get new front brakes quoted (they refused to do it over the phone) m. After taking a brief look, they explained I needed both new rotors and pads, quoting me at over $500 for just the fronts and gave me a hard time when I told them I needed to look around more. I took it to another location (not affiliated with them) in San Rafael that quoted me (over the phone) $250. After bringing the car to that shop, they took one look and said the front brakes were perfectly fine! Not only is this place a ripoff, they're dishonest. POOR SERVICE NOT A RECOMMENDED REPAIR SHOP Rick said that he could repair my car so I had my car towed over to him and he said he would start working on it on Monday. The car sat there for a month till he finally said it was fixed and charges me $900 for the PCM, so I came and picked it up and drove it home. I put it in the garage. The next day I started it and ran for about thirty seconds and stopped and wouldn't start again. So I had it towed back to him. I said I need it fixed ASAP so the sat there for another month and he wouldn't fix it. He said he couldn't figure out how to fix my car. So I had towed to another repair shop. Amazing place! The service staff and Rick are great people and did an amazing job servicing my 1969 Camaro Pace Car! There are only two people that have ever worked on my Camaro. One being my father and he has passed away. So naturally, I was very concerned selecting the mechanic to be responsible for taking care and maintaining my Camaro. I did my research and spoke to local car enthusiasts and collectors and Rick's name came up several times. I even met with Rick in person last year to try to get to know him and kind of do a quick interview. I was very impressed. So I took my car in today for a complete service and the Camaro runs amazing. Rick even took the time to suggest products and ways for me to better maintain my car and to keep the engine running in tip top condition. I did not price shop, because I appreciate expertise and quality work and I will always support local when it makes sense. I found the price to be quite fair and I am 100% satisfied. Rick and I even came up with a game plan for future improvements which is awesome. I highly recommend Boulevard Automotive for ALL your service and repair needs! Beware of this place--they have shady business practices!! My car wouldn't start so we had it towed to this shop. They opened the hood, looked around, poked a few places, and promptly said it was the battery. They charged $90 for labor and $150 for the battery. Per the invoice, the "vehicle now starts properly." On a road trip to LA, we stopped off at Coalinga, about 200 miles from home. Car wouldn't start again, and luckily we have AAA, otherwise, we would have been stranded. The tow truck driver jumped our battery. Wouldn't start. Then he poked a few places--one of the places was one that the mechanic from Boulevard poked!! The car started, and the tow truck driver told us it was the starter. He showed us exactly where to poke to get the car to start. We didn't have any problems on the drive back home--thank goodness! This place is only concerned about making money and not the welfare of its customers. If the car didn't start, we would have had to stay overnight and then find a mechanic the next day. Luckily we were in a safe place, but it could have easily been a worse situation. read more

I never write yelp reviews, but after my experience here I feel like I have to warn others. The first time I went here I went in for an engine light inspection in order to pass smog. After about an hour of waiting I was told an estimate of over $900 for repairs! I said absolutely not and was still charged $40 just for the inspection when he didn't even do anything. My mechanic in Marin county (Country Club Automotive, the best) only charged me $350. Silly me thought I'd give this place another chance with a simple oil change. I already knew my car takes synthetic oil only but still wanted to charge me $85?! I had a coupon for regular oil and asked the receptionist if the mechanic would work with me on some sort of discount. No. $85. I said no thank you Wheel Works charges me $50 with their coupon. Beware of mechanics like this one who try to take advantage of young women like me who think we know nothing of cars! read more

It's always so great to Yelp a positive review on a business instead of a negative one. Boulevard Automotive rates such a positive review for something small they helped me out with just yesterday. My 2000 Hyundai Elantra has had this annoying clunk coming from the rear-end for months now and I've just been enduring it for lack of repair funds. Having just financed a newer car it became time to sell my well-loved (and used) Hyundai so I thought I better ante up and get the car into the shop to have the clunk fixed before it scared off a prospective buyer. You can imagine my surprise when I brought in the Elantra after work yesterday to have it looked at by Rik, the owner, only to have him take it for an immediate test-drive before driving it right into an available bay, putting it up on a lift, and quickly fixing the problem -- at NO CHARGE! I was in and out in less than 25 minutes with a car that now sounds solid going over bumps and ready for impressing a potential buyer. I always give my business to the local guy when I can and Rik at Boulevard is one of those great small town business owners who would get my repeat business, just for this one small gesture of goodwill toward a customer in need. read more

I'm so happy I found Boulevard Automotive! Becky and Rick are so nice and genuinely care about their customers. I took my 2004 Dodge Durango there last Friday to get the radiator checked out as Oil Stop had previously mentioned that the radiator was cracked and the hoses were bloated. Rick looked at it and said that was indeed the case. The hoses were 3 times the size they were supposed to be. It was too late by time I got off work to get it fixed that afternoon so I brought it in today (Monday) on my lunch break and dropped it off. Rick even gave me a ride back to work!!! I tried to tip him $5 just as a thank you, (I really appreciated the ride back to work), but he wouldn't take it! He said it was no trouble and not to worry about it. So I dropped it off around 11:30 am and it was done by time I was off work at 3:00. They even offered to pick me up from work but my manager was kind enough to give me a ride there. I got there and got to chat with Becky for a minute while she got paperwork together. She is super sweet and funny. Both she and Rick do everything in their power to make sure you're happy. I walked out of there super happy and paying $200-$400 less than other places wanted to charge me! It's so nice to be able to turn the AC on on a 92 degree day and not have my truck overheat! We recently moved to the area and had to find a shop to do our 90k mile maintenance. I called about 5 different shops to get quotes, and Boulevard Automotive was the place. (They quoted me the coupon rate of $80 off without my telling them I had a coupon. In other words, they actually give you their best rate!) All of the other places I called were $80 to $200 higher... LOVE that! So I made an appointment and brought my car in. They didn't try to sell me extra work that the car didn't need. I dropped off and picked up kinda late. But they stayed open late, and were still very friendly and polite. I'm very happy with the service I received. Kudos to all of you at Boulevard Automotive. You'll be seeing us again! :D read more

I have a Ford Fusion that we purchased a maintenance contract. Took car in for an oil change and was informed needed brakes. They did not even look at my contract i had to tell them we had a maintenance contract. Then they offered to replace them for free but that was after driving 20 minutes to get there and waiting 15 minutes in line. You think they would know what services we have and they would try to provide excellent customer service. The oil change was on a Wednesday brakes were completed by Monday. When picking up car car salesman in lobby had no mask on and another employee behind the service desk had mask on his chin but nose and mouth were not covered. Mark, of Boulevard Automotive, is the best mechanic in Petaluma. A former medical student, he is a doctor with cars. I have trusted him with our family van and my sporty Toyota Solara, and he not only keeps our cars running well and lasting beyond their normal lives, but he also identifies potential problems before they become realities. I trust Mark, and I can't give a better recommendation than that. He even helped me stay away from buying a new-looking minivan that had hidden problems, when car fax and other people's inspections looked clean. I mean, he saw that the cars were re-painted and had been in an accident, when the seller and carfax didn't disclose this information. Truly, Mark is a doctor for cars, so if you want a dependable (can do) mechanic who can make your sick car well, Mark is your man. read more

From my personal experience this is a very honest and speedy place. I had an engine light on and was never told this COULD make me fail at 101 SMOG EXPRESS in Santa Rosa; a very dishonest shop. This would have been good to know before paying the full amount ($85). Long story short if you have 100% chance of passing they have a good price and thats pretty much it (about 40 bucks if you call in advance or have some kind of coupon). I gambled and payed the price. I recommend Boulevard automotive they price at about 55 bucks. No coupons or anything of that kind; just $55 and thats it; and YES they are HONEST and will let you know about small things such as an engine light before you take the plunge. No body is perfect but some honesty is nice. read more

I am a fairly new client with this shop, but after listening to "Car Talk" on the radio, I am convinced that they are right about getting as good if not better service from a private mechanic as you can at a dealer's shop, plus a better value. I have a 2002 Santa Fe which is well out of warrantee. My husband insisted I have it serviced by the dealer for years but now I am taking it to Boulevard Automotive for service. Then, just the other day, I had my first mechanical problem and needed their help to solve it. I thought I had a stuck accelerator, but they quickly discovered it was a flaw in my cruise control and resolved it. Also, I didn't know they offered car detailing. Wow! This shop does everything! Customer satisfaction is number one. They sure treated me like a first class customer, and I must say, I'm now one of their biggest fans! read more

Very disappointed, but as a business owner myself, I appreciate that there are always 2 sides to every story and you can't always control the actions of your employees. I am hoping the owner will do the right thing. Here's my daughter's story. My daughter is a student at Sonoma State and she was referred to Boulevard Automotive. She's used them for little things in the past and has always had a great experience. Last week, she went to have her air conditioner fixed because it wasn't blowing cold air and she was driving home to LA for the weekend. They told her she needed a new AC motor and charged her $300 for a new motor and installation. Because they had to order the motor and she had to go to her babysitting job, she left her car there for the day. After she picked her car up, the air was blowing cold but it was making a weird noise so she returned the next day to ask them about it. The owner of the shop sat in the car with her and heard the noise. He then told her that if she was his daughter, he would tell her to just let it go because in order to find the problem and fix it, he would have to remove her entire dashboard and it would be very expensive. So she listened to him and left. She drove home to LA that day for the weekend and took her car to our regular mechanic and told him that a new motor was installed but the noise was troubling. The mechanic seemed to know what the problem was, and immediately pulled the motor out. He showed her that 1) the "new" motor that was installed was actually old and broken 2) the noise was caused from a plug that was intentionally cut and missing (he showed her the wire that was cut) which is why there was a noise coming from the motor. He ordered a new motor which arrived in 20 minutes. He took the new motor out of the box and compared it to the one that was installed by Boulevard and there was no question the Boulevard motor was definitely not new. He then asked her to try to spin the motor that they pulled of her car and it was frozen. Then he had her spin the new motor which moved easily. Our mechanic then showed my daughter how to properly install the motor which she can now do on her own and it took less than 30 minutes to do without having to take the dashboard off. The cost to have the new one fixed a second time? Less than $100. My daughter returned to Boulevard Automotive today and waited for the owner so she could show him the motor they installed and return it for a refund. After waiting for 20+ minutes, the girl in the office told her to leave the motor and she would call her when the owner got there. It's 10:00 a.m. and still no call. My daughter works and pays for her school and expenses. $300 for a student is 3 weeks of work for her. She is now out $400 because she had to have the air conditioner fixed when she got back to LA. Up until now, she has always raved about this place and how much she trusted the work they do and how well they treated her. It's disappointing and unethical that whoever worked on her car thought it was okay to defraud her. Update: My daughter spoke to the owner who offered no apology, and was rude to her when she finally spoke to him on the phone. He said he told her dad that she would get a full refund and that he doesn't know why he is still talking to her about the situation and then proceeded to be a bully and ask her if she still wanted the refund or not. I appreciate that he refunded her money in full, but his lack of concern or even acknowledgment that she was taken advantage of makes me think that he's just mad because they got caught! I'm giving 5 stars for their excellent work! I was driving back from Bodega Bay, and noticed the rubber sealant around my front bumper was hanging down and hitting the road. I thought the best place to go would be the Honda dealership in Petaluma. When I got there, they were too busy to look at my car and could not give any suggestions on how to do a quick fix (I tried to do it myself, but it kept falling). I really wasn't too happy with their lack of interest. I headed down the street and stopped at the first auto body place- Boulevard Automotive. I asked Mark how much it would be, how long it would take, and what to do. He got down on his knees, snapped everything into place, explained what to do next, and did it all for free. I came here for a couple of oil changes last year, and I knew that I would be back for any major service. Sure enough, I had a sputter in my F150 which I thought was a transmission issue. After some chitchat and a hook up to their diagnostic machine, they assured me that I just needed a simple tuneup. I could have attempted this myself, but they had the expensive specialty tools to remove the tricky Ford spark plugs in my 5.4L. She's purring like a lion now! Went to Boulevard for a smog check on an old truck. They did an inexpensive "pre-smog test" smog test, just in case it might fail and put me in the "gross polluters" category. It failed, and then they told me very clearly what kind of money I'd be getting into to bring it up to smog cert. I'm getting rid of my truck, but I've gained an honest mechanic. I've been a long time customer of Mark, then Craig at Boulevard Auto. The quality of service since Mark left has dropped off significantly. Nevertheless I continued to have my car cared for by Rick until now. I had him change my tires, but when I picked it up I could not open my door with the key fob. They say they did not do anything to cause this, and also did absolutely nothing to help figure out how this occurred, refusing to take any responsibility for it. This caused me to take my BMW to a specialist who figured out my issue within an hour. He also changed my spark plugs which I thought were changed recently by Rick. Rick charged me $192.00 to change my plugs but apparently forgot to do so. I will no longer support Boulevard Auto and you should consider this before you entrust them with your car. read more
