If you're looking for an honest, competent, reasonably-priced mechanic for your Audi vehicle, look no further than Eric and his crew at Sonoma Autowerks in Petaluma. My 2019 Audi SQ5 needed a small repair and they completed the task and didn't even charge me for a full hour. So there's no minimum rate. And they don't charge you for a consultation. The local dealer charges you $350 for that. But they repair more than just Audis. When I was there, they had a giant red tractor waiting in their parking lot. Don't ask me how it got there! I asked them to tackle some weird behavior from my engine and ECU and they were able to fix some oil leaks and work out a lot of the bugs. They were very honest and reasonable. When I called the Porsche dealership Marin and was quoted upwards of $1600 to replace just brake pads on a Macan, I sought elsewhere. After googling Porsche mechanics in the Petaluma area this shop came up. So I called them to discuss, after I purchased parts to replace with better rotors and ceramic brake pads it still came out to less than half of what I was quoted by the dealership. These guys were great & able to get me in for an appointment about a week and half out, even though it's the holidays season and I'm sure they're busy. I had an issue with something draining my battery and my car not starting. I called Monday morning and they said they would do their best to look at it, but let me know they had a busy schedule. I always appreciate it when a mechanic knows how to set expectations. he suspected it was a relay and that seemed to be correct. he happened to have one in stock and had it taken care of an hour later! he also let me know that while it appears that this was the fix, it's possible that there's another relay causing the issue- tbd. again, it's just nice to have expectations set with clear communications. First time here. I called to make an appointment for an oil change and inspection on my VW and they had openings within a week. They let me wait in their reception area - I had to head to work right after and couldn't drop it off. It was very fast service. I'm glad I could find an auto shop like this. We've always gone to the dealership for this kind of stuff for years, but the one in S Rosa is awful. My warranty is up anyway. Took one of my cars here for a regular service; the first non dealer service it had seen, due to its warranty and pre-paid maintenance recently ending. I researched local shops thoroughly and went with Sonoma Autowerks due to their outstanding ratings and recommendation by another local Audi enthusiast. I was not disappointed. They did an excellent job at the work and in a timely manner. The pricing was competitive and better than the dealer. They also gave it a free inspection and recommended a few things without being pushy or even suggesting they do the work; with one issue they even suggested I wait until the work was necessary. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for work on their Audi, whether it be routine service, repairs or modifications. highly recommend this place! auto shops can be really nerve wracking as a woman, always worried if i'm getting ripped off etc. i came in with my old VW for a check engine light that previous mechanics couldn't solve. all three of the technicians i spoke with were super nice, attentive with communication, explained things in a way i understood, and were extremely honest. it took a few tries to finally find what was causing the problem and they only charged me for the parts/labor that contributed to solving the issue. best auto shop experience to date! thankyou! read more

Man! These guys rock. My only regret at this point... I have a Ford. I wish I could bring MY car to them. Every time my boyfriend has needed anything done on his Volkswagen they are super accommodating. From a simple dash light/sensor reset to a timing belt, they do it all in a timely manner AND without breaking the bank. This review is long overdue. When I had my Volkswagen GTI I used to drive all the way down here from Ukiah for service. They always did a great job at a fair price. In fact, when there is an issue they they go above and beyond to make it right. During one routine oil change, they over-torqued the drain plug, which stripped the threads in the drain. I didn't notice it until a couple of days later. Once I noticed oil leaking, I called them up about the issue. The owner told me not to risk driving it down to Petaluma and to just take it to a local shop in Ukiah and he would cover the repairs. I dropped it off at a Ukiah shop where they had to completely replace the oil pan. I gave them the number for Sonoma Autowerks and the owner took care of it for me. I didn't have to pay a dime out of my own pocket or deal with getting reimbursed. Anybody can give good service, but it takes an exceptionally great person and business to do what they did when a mistake was made. 10/10 I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs VW or Audi service. When my coolant hoses broke, on the back side of the motor, I was considering just parking it because I was treated so badly at the last three automotive shops that I went to. Quoted $170 for a Audi oil change and was charged $260 upon checkout (had no other work done). Not the end of the world but when I asked about the increase in price they said Audi changed to a new oil spec for my model recently which is false (unless they were referring to several year ago). Either way 0w-20 spec 508 oil is not $22+ a liter... not even if you sprinkle gold dust on it and you should have got the quote right the first time considering that is not a new standard oil for Audi. Yep they got the job done (and quickly) but you should be more aware when you're doing work for a car enthusiast that owns several imports and is part of local car clubs. You're basically robbing people considering a certified Audi dealer will do the same job for almost $100 less. Live in learn- I won't be back and my fellow car enthusiast won't either. read more

I have a 2008 Audi A4. I've been through seven shops throughout the North Bay with not that much good luck with service or customer service even the so called big dogs. On April 2017 I finally tried out Sonoma Autowerks and had Eric worked on my vehicle. He replaced valve cover, thermostat and coolant flange. I'll present this review by including the reciprocal experience you would have had at the dealership had you not been smart and clever enough to read this review first.... 1. When you call Sonoma Autowerks, Ignemar or Eric will answer the phone. Dealership - Customer, meet the computer. Would you like some popcorn with your hold time? You'll have to make it yourself... 2. Both these guys are extremely professionally easy going, courteous and knowledgeable; on the phone, in person, and when working on your car. It's almost like they have a bushido ethic...Honest, honorable, disciplined and intensely competent. They care about your car as much as you do. They love your car as much as you do. It strikes me that they simply love working on cars and that's a palpable feeling when you hand over your keys. Dealership - Hahahahahaha...I've never felt more than a cog in a machine at a dealership. I'm just a number to be processed as quickly as possible. Substantively remedying the issue is ancillary to them making me think they've remedied the issue. And honestly, I'm not a car guy so how do I really know? which leads me to my 3rd point about these two guys. 3. You'll actually get a straight answer from Ignemar and Eric. In fact, they let you hang out while they are working on your vehicle, and if you are so inclined, will explain the different things or particular points about your car that you should be aware of and the process they will use to determine what is wrong and why. Dealership - the only interaction you are going to get from the tech is 1) your bill or 2) that your warranty is voided because you put on a different air filter. 4. They actually use MOBIL 1. Ignemar said this in passing the 1st time I was there for an oil change and I just about passed out. It's like walking into a bar that only serves top shelf, at just above cost...on principle. Dealership - I'm convinced on occasion that the oil wasn't even changed. Certainly not all dealerships are so disingenuous, but I watch Ignemar and Eric drain my little GTI....I watch them walk under my car; examining, prodding, and meticulously going over areas where trouble might be lurking. 5. Ignemar and Eric are regular guys. They understand you are not made of money. You are going to save hundreds, eventually thousands of dollars on maintenance over the life of your car. If you're skeptical, which you should be, call around and get a quote.....These guys will consistently be a winning bid. Dealership - Ask yourself this question, have you ever got a bill from a dealership and said "holy sh*t! this is great!" Exactly.....You are going to pay a premium on parts, labor, fees, misc. fees, jack you around fees, we are in the back room laughing at you b/c you are stupid and don't know how to work on cars fees....I'm over it, man. 6. Lastly, and maybe this is just me, but when these guys hand me my keys, shake my hand, and say goodbye, they look me in the eye and really mean it. That may be old school and of no particular consequence to you, but it really means a lot to me. It just feels like they really appreciate your business. Dealership - Wait out in the lobby sucker....we'll get to you when we're ready. P.S. Shop is immaculate. I'd eat in there...In fact I have. read more

If you have an Audi or VW this is the place to service your car. My warranty on my Audi finished recently and when I went to took my car to the dealer they gave me a quote of $590. I told them not to service my car I will go elsewhere. I found Sonoma Autowerks on Yelp and called them and they quoted me for $194. That is almost a savings of $400, and in this economy, you need all the money you can get! SA even had my car re-aligned my car because they felt that it wasn't perfect. Perfectionist mechanics are rare. Bottom Line: If you have an Audi, VW or Euro car and don't feel like paying an arm and a leg at the dearlship than Sonoma Autowerks is perfect. I live in the northbay so it was very close to me, but I would suggest calling even if you have to drive a little bit longer. Great service and they really know what they are doing. read more

We have 3 VWs and just moved to Sonoma County. We left our great VW mechanic behind, in San Diego. I had a check engine light come on in my Passat shortly after arriving up here and came to Sonoma Autowerks based upon the Yelp reviews. Wow ... everyone's Yelp reviews here is spot on. From my first call to the shop to the friendly and professional service I was very happy with my interactions. There is even a sweet old dog that rambles around the shop and cool music to boot. First off I would like to say that I have not written many yelp reviews because honestly, it has to either be a business that I hate so much I want anyone considering it to steer clear, or it is a business that I like or believe in so much, that I will make the time to tell anyone I can. Sonoma Autowerks would fall under the latter. I know a fair amount about working on cars and try to do most things myself, but there are always things I can't or would rather not take on myself. There are so many people who don't have the slightest clue about their cars and they are the ones being taken advantage of. If that is you, take this to heart. First of all, NEVER take you car to the dealership no matter how "right" it feels. They will always charge more than anyone else, will give you the runaround with their "Free100+ point inspections", which is only an attempt to find things that "you really should replace..." We've all heard that before and many people fall right into the trap. Not to mention the horrible customer service and "behind closed doors, fast food mentality" work they do. My best advice is to find a good local certified shop that does honest work for fair prices, and then proceeds to take the time and explain things to you without making you feel like they are looking for ways to squeeze money out of you. The trouble is it is pretty hard to find that sort of business these days. The GOOD NEWS IS, that has already been done! This is the shop that you will return to because you had such a great experience! I have been to their shop three times now and will continue to make the drive from Napa any time I need something for my VW. I meant to write this review a while ago but finally remembered today after my third great experience. Ingemar and Eric are two of the nicest guys I have met and are honest, friendly, fast, and will take the time to talk to you after repairs, explaining things you don't understand, giving you suggestions, even telling you what you can fix yourself to save money! That is the true sign of good business and proof that they are not here to swindle you. One reason for my visit today was to replace an O2 sensor. I read horror stories about trying to break them loose, using liquid wrench, WD40, butane torches, hammers, etc. This was more than I wanted to get involved in. Long story short I forgot the new sensor at home, and instead of suggesting I come back another day, Ingemar offered to break it loose for me so I could replace it myself when I got home. He didn't even charge me for his labor! If I could give this shop 10 stars I would. My only suggestion is that you call in advance and make an appointment because it seems that lately they are booked solid for at least a week. It seems as though more and more people are aware of this shop so make an appointment and know that the wait is well worth the peace of mind. Keep up the great work guys! read more

I wish I could give this place 6 stars, because that's what they honestly deserve. If your factory warranty has expired and you need routine maintenance, inspection, or a major service you would be a fool to take your German car anywhere else. These guys are master and ASE certified in addition owning a melee of various technical and mechanical certifications. Also, were both dealer trained at Sonnen Motorcars in San Rafael...so as far as a mechanical resume goes, it's a Harvard. They are incredibly honest, straightforward, knowledgeable, and very time efficient. You may not get a car wash after your service here like you would at the dealership, but you will get a far more detailed and thorough inspection with a nice chunk of surplus cash in your pocket to buy several car washes at some other place. When I got back to pick up my keys, all details from inspection were in front of me and I was able to shoot a bunch of questions at Eric and Ingmar and receive detailed explanations, unheard of. Do your car and pocketbook a favor and check this place out for yourself. Then get back on here and you will understand why I recommended 6/5 stars here. read more

Using the email address posted on the Sonoma Autowerks website, I emailed them asking for a service quote since I don't have a lot of opportunities to make phone calls during the day. Days later, still no response. So, I went out of my way to make time to call them and they were friendly enough on the phone. However, when I asked for a quote, the guy wanted over DOUBLE the amount in labor fees than four other reputable performance shops in the Bay Area. I know this kind of work isn't cheap and I don't expect it to be, but I've done my research and I know what labor costs should be for this kind of job. I wouldn't mind paying slightly more money at a shop that I know does quality work, but over twice the amount in labor fees is just silly, especially for just an ECU reflash. I'm sure these guys are knowledgable and friendly, but they didn't make a good first impression on me so unfortunately, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more
