The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is always a fun race and for 2024, it did not disappoint…read more Going back to 2018, I have participated in this for several years, I think the only one I missed was in 2022 which worked out well as it rained that year. Also, while it was a virtual run in 2020 due to covid, I did go out and run the route on Thanksgiving morning (so technically, I did not miss that year...LOL). They always do a great job with organizing this run. As with most runs, the earlier you sign up the lower the registration fee. They always have some great shirts that are included with the registration and medals are always nice. As for the sign up, one can choose to do a timed run or just an open, untimed run. As for the race itself, there is a corral at the front for those who signed up for a timed run and then those who chose to do an untimed run line up behind them. The route is not the most scenic but it works well for me as I live nearby. This means I'm able to walk to/from the event and not have to deal with parking. The 5K race starts at Dallas City Hall, goes east into Deep Ellum before heading west through downtown Dallas and ending back at City Hall. There is also an 8 mile run that tracks the same route until a certain point, the 5K goes one direction and the 8 mile goes another (I often wonder how many 5K runners miss the turn and end up doing the 8 mile instead). There is always a great mix of runners, walkers, and those who do a bit of both. Some people are in running gear while others are costumes. This run is pet friendly so there are lots of fur babies out enjoying themselves (with their owners...of course). Along the route there are numerous spectators cheering on the participants. Also, there are smaller bands along the route which contributes to the energy level. There are lots of water stations along the route and once the finished line is crossed, there are lots of volunteers in the vicinity passing out medals, water, and fruit. For 2024, there were vendors in the area with cooked food such as breakfast tacos, etc. which was a change compared to other years. There are numerous vendors with stands who offer things from lip balm to bags of powdered protein and everything in between. For 2024, the participant turnout seemed to be back at pre-pandemic levels which made for a fun and energizing time. I am already looking forward to 2025.

For those who are looking for a wedding photographer, here's why you need Laura: 1) Flawless Execution One of the MOST IMPORTANT lessons I learned from wedding planning is that the on-the-day execution trumps any portfolio. Wedding photography is a completely different ball game from studio photography and unfortunately, many of the current "wedding photographers" fall in the second category. It's easy to set up the perfect lighting, line up the perfect angle, and set up the perfect pose for a "perfect shot" (and even apply the perfect filter afterwards). That's studio photography and anyone can do that given a good camera. Wedding photography, on the other hand, is about capturing the moments. It's about having the instinct and the experience to capture those split seconds, those candid moments, and knowing how to respond to those unexpected events (which happens at every wedding). Laura's execution is flawless, which comes from her extensive resume and attention to details. Her efficiency is off the chart. That's how she can crank out 3,000 pics (while others can only do 800) w/o compromising quality. 2) Excellent Support Team All of the packages comes with 2 photographers + 1 "assistant", with Laura being the lead photographer most of the time. However, the rest of the team is superb as well (unlike other studios that just grab some complete newbie). Everyone on the team has their own photography studio, including the "assistant". Our second photographer actually charges more than Laura does at her own studio! How Laura can get her as a second photographer is beyond my understanding. So essentially, you're getting 3 professional photographers. What a deal! Each photographer has his/her distinct on-the-day roles. Laura is in charge of constantly following the couple, period. The second photographer is in charge of the guests, all the candid moments, and setup for some artistic studio shots. Everyone is professionally dressed and communicated well. With 3 photographers, you can easily get 100% coverage of the entire wedding. As a cherry on top, Laura personally processes some pics immediately after the wedding (usually past midnight) and will have a sneak peak of about 70 pics ready before the morning. 3) Contagious Personality Laura loves weddings. She genuinely loves weddings and helping brides, and her excitement is contagious. She's much more than just a photographer that you hire for one day. My wife and I have gained a friend though the process. I would recommend Fairytale and Laura to everyone looking for a true wedding photographer. I've gone to many weddings over the past few years and I can confidently say that no one came anywhere close to the level of execution that Laura had. You know... those "in your face" photographers who get good shots but ruins the moment; those scrappily dressed photographers who looks like they hate their jobs; those studio photographers that takes 5 mins to set up each shot; yeah... you don't want them at your wedding day. You want Laura at your wedding.

He also let my granddaughter (after summoning up enough courage) to be the last ride of the day when I told him she had not had a turn. Thank you for having such a kind & caring employee. I asked one of the two young men, if he could assist me. I was at the point of giving us (leaving it near recycling bin) when the second young man, joined and assisted. They were handling the bounce houses, directly in front of the Police Station. Not only that, they even placed it inside the carrying case and loaded into the back of my car. We did the Secret Vault which had a 35% passing rate. It was challenging and fun and even though we didn't escape, they did allow us 15 extra minutes with 3 more clues and we got out in 7 minutes. It was only 1 room, but it was so well thought out and some stuff that was super crazy hard, that I would have never thought of. I liked how clean everything was and well kept. I've been through some escape rooms out of the country and so I thought that this room was comparable in the level of difficulty for some parts, but for sure the puzzles were done very well. I've told a lot of my friends about this place, so I can't wait to go back with them. There's no red herrings, and the game master did very well with guiding us during the clues and was very thorough with the rules. Can't wait to go back.

You already have numerous different rules and a required liability form, so I don't see a problem with a screwdriver, something you can find in your house. At least that is what I bet on. Oh, how wrong I was. Boasting the "largest" escape room in Texas is true. Just trying to find the bathroom in this place is hard. HOWEVER, it really is just a pitiful excuse to be expensive. Their "third generation escape room" is just a fancy phrase to say an escape room with no manual locks. I hated their escape room, Holding Cell. Their orientation room takes away from the experience. I didn't pay $30 to sit and get lectured like children for 10 minutes on about 15 different rules I could be liable for if I break. When you enter an escape room, you should feel transported into a movie or another dimension. Their room had no atmosphere. It felt like a room disguised as a cell, instead of being a cell. It just felt fake. Where was the toilet or sink the prisoner was suppose to use? Why the hell was there a blackboard on the wall? The blackboard should be a clue. The room just felt clunky. It didn't have a flow and the progression clues were poorly displayed. Progression should feel rewarding. Here, it just felt trivial and insulting. (We got the puzzle! What did we get? Oh, just a laminated card).The clues were written on LAMINATED CARDS. Like come on, be more creative. Have a scewdrive as a reward and something. On the backs, they had the location of the clues for the staff to reset the room. It was a poor attempt at an technologically advanced escape room. This is a prime example of quality over quantity. Save your money and take it to the Perfect Escape, The Escape Game, or even Red Door! Anywhere but here.
