F for customer service…read more I feel bad leaving a poor review especially given that I quite like the owner and have had good experiences with the shop in the past. And have been a loyal customer for many years and have bought a ton of stuff from them. But today I had a terrible experience and I just feel like I need to share it. I went in to rent a pair of skis for my daughter as we wanted to go skiing the next day. It was 4:45 on Sat. Walking in and saying I wanted to rent skis. The young guy behind the counter asked me if I had an appointment. I said no, I no idea I needed an appointment for a one-day rental. Then he said I'm sorry I won't be able to help you we close in 14 minutes. Well, first closing at 5pm when you're a rental shop during the ski season seems a little early but OK. I said are you sure I just need skis and that shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes (I used to work in a rental shop and setting up rental skis is really very quick). But he said no, it would not be possible. There were no other customers in the shop so it was unclear what else would be taking his time, but clearly not helping me. He very unhelpfully suggested that I could come back in the morning and that they open at 11. Which is pretty useless if you want to ski that same day. The fact that he suggested that as a solution is just more evidence that he had zero interest in listening to what I need or in any way finding a way to help me. I hope this is an anomaly and not what I can expect from the shop going forward. I really enjoy having a local ski shop in West Seattle and I hope that my future experiences will be like all my previous ones.

I lost an irreplaceable rod on a river yesterday. I never would have found it without the incredible help of Muaaz, one of the staff members, who was so exceedingly caring and attentive that he voluntarily managed to track down the person who grabbed it from the bank. Thank you, Muaaz! Many fly shops are intimidating. Most are uncomfortable to hang out in. Plenty of them employ "experts" who are outright disdainful and rude to customers who don't know what they're doing. Most other shops aren't designed to foster a real community, let alone bring a positive force to the larger community of the neighborhood. There isn't a single employee here who won't go above and beyond for you, whether you're an absolute novice, intermediate to expert angler, or just have a friend or family member who's into fly fishing. Need a gift for the angler in your life? Curious about why people are so obsessed with this sport? Want to understand why matching a rod with the appropriate reel, line, leader, and tippet seems so complicated? Want to know if that piece of equipment is really worth the price tag? Maybe you don't really need anything, but you'd like to hang out in a comfortable space designed for customers like you to relax and socialize. Maybe you're tinkering with the idea of getting into fly tying but have no idea where to start. Or perhaps you could really use some expert advice based extensive experience -- without being told you have to buy $2,000 worth of whatever. If any of the above rings a bell, this is the place. No upselling, no uptight attitudes, no joke. This place is invested in making a real contribution to the community of West Seattle. If you live closer to another shop, give this one a shot. It's worth the trip, and you might not go back to that other place. The junction is lucky to have EWA at their new location on California Ave. I shop here instead of buying directly from vendors because there's no price gouging or elitist vibe, and because I honestly want this business to thrive. Most of the other customers who frequent this place do too. Moving this shop from 42nd and Oregon to the heart of the junction took an enormous group effort. There's a good reason so many of its customers volunteered to help with whatever was needed. There are also plenty of good reasons I've spent this much of my time and this many words writing a yelp review. Come see what all this fuss is about.

I will now relate the tale of shoe mecca: This is what happened I walked in ad went straight to the shoe are... i never did get offered help so I eventually found a nice clerk to help me and he promptly got the shoes i had picked out which i ended up hating. He asked what i was using them for primarily (restaurant kitchen) and immediately had ideas other then what I had picked and showed them too me, got me my size and was very very very patient with my picky self. Eventually he asked if i minded a boot, i said I didn't and he brought over a pair of SWAT team combat boots! Holly crap! I had never thought of using boots like this in a kitchen environment before but wow they are awesome! I was thrilled that he thought of them! Bless that kid for he has found me mecca in shoe form! I was a little worried cause they were a high boot that they might not be comfortable durring work. He told me to wear them to work and if they didn't feel good bring them back and he would definitely return them for me... i was stunned by this. Do you have any idea how much beating my shoes took today?! I spilled hot greasy water all over them, a chicken fell on one, my clutsy colleague dropped a hotel pan on my foot, i used my feet to open reach ins and coolers and to give me leverage, to break up cardboard and stomp down garbage, my feet stayed safe, cool and comfortable but wow they are dirty already so i was pretty impressed when he said he'd return them NO MATTER WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE TOMOROW! Regardless I won't be returning them but wow! The down sides to my visit were the other sales associate who did not care at all that I was also looking for quads (ie rollerskates) and pointed in the direction of the skates rather then actually showing me. The lady at teh front cared more about her nails then anything else and I actually had to wait for her to finish her (very long and boring) conversation with the other sales associate before she rang me up. I'll go back if I have a prob with the boots or to buy shoes but only from that one kid.

Even worse, it's really obvious how unfairly she treats her team--showing clear favoritism toward certain employees while treating others poorly right on the sales floor. I did ask one of the staff for her name and her name is Rachel . The rest of the staff deserves better support, and management needs to step up.

The store is located in the Admiral district, across the street from Hiawatha Playfield. They are on the ground level of the Orion Building, with plenty of free street parking nearby. I just walked into the store and someone started helping me immediately. I could tell she was a runner and had tons of experience, so I felt comfortable trusting her guidance. In addition to measuring my feet, she also watched me walk (without shoes on) to analyze my gait. She gave me several brands/styles to try on and asked for my input after each one. I selected two pairs and I'm happy with my purchase. I think the price I paid was close to the online price and I am glad that I can support a local business instead. They also have a loyalty program, so if you spend a certain amount of money, you get a discount for the next year. In addition to being a retail store, West Seattle Runner is also involved in the local community. For example, they offer free weekly running groups and events with physical therapists. I would definitely shop here again.

Staff said nothing to me about the incident that occurred in front of all of us. Door was wide open, anyone could have walked in. Typically things involving kids are more secure. Ratio seemed acceptable, there were like 3 or 4 when we arrived and 2 when we picked up and there were less than 10 kids. You would think they could handle it or help redirect the aggression - especially between bigger and littler kids. I'm disgusted because the coaches are pretty great for soccer so we trusted Arena Sports. I would NEVER recommend this to any parent.
