One of my best restaurant experience, I ever had. Delicious food! The cook, Jimmy, who is an artist in his profession, came out and personally checked if the food was up to our satisfaction. The waitresses were also outstanding! Gina's honest smile, kindness and helpfulness put the crown on a nice dinner. I also would like to mention Danielle, who also made sure that we had the best service possible. Location is convenient. Prices are on the high side. My friend ordered one of the cheaper plates to save money. After medium length wait, we got our food. My 'big plate' salmon had a lot of room to spare. It tasted pretty good. I don't eat a lot, but I did not feel full. My 96 yr old mom, and my daughter flew in from southern CA. They both eat out regularly at good restaurants. They are lacto-ovo vegetarians. We were out enjoying what will probably be our last "girls day out" together. After Calaveras Big Trees we looked fora special place to eat. When I arrived at the restaurant I asked if they had vegetarian food. I was assured there were several good choices. We waited for our food 40 minutes. The place was not busy when we arrived. We were brought 3 glasses of water. One had a piece of lime in it, the others did not. My daughter drank all her water. Her glass was never refilled. When the waitress arrived we explained our needs and added that we did not want anything spicy (hot). The soup was so spicy they could not eat it. My sandwich was so tall I couldn't get it in my mouth. I tried cutting it with a knife, but the crust was like a rock. i finally scrapped out the insides and ate some of it, but it tasted bad. My mom and daughter had really bad tasting or tasteless (polenta) food. We tasted each other's food to see if we could trade. No luck. Even my french fries were burned and very oily. It was one of the WORST MEALS AND SERVICE I have ever had. I have traveled in many countries. The waitress never checked on us. At the end I asked for a reduction in the bill, she could see our food still on our plates. They discounted the soup. I paid $50 and wasted 2 hrs. of out precious time together. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in Murphys. It never disappoints. The food is absolutely delicious. The dishes are all fresh, well prepared and amazing. I have tried many of the dishes and loved them all. The staff is fabulous and so friendly. I have met the owners and they are the kind of people we all need in our lives. They care about all of the operations of their farm, their market and their restaurant. Their veggies are either from their organic farm or other local organic farms. If you want healthy food this is the place. They may never get a Michelin Star but they get the Isabella star. read more

My husband and I recently relocated from the bay area to the Sierra Foothills. Imagine our disappointment when we discovered that organic fruits and vegetables were not readily available here. Fortunately for us, we found Outer Aisles Farm stand and restaurant. Eric and Christine are passionate about their food and the environment. Their approach to food is farm to table with all the food grown at their local farm. Although their restaurant is now an event venue, you can still find hearty homemade soups and a great salad bar at their farm stand on Hwy.4 Thursdays through Saturdays. If you are planning an event, they would be the best place in town to have a fantastically healthy and delicious catered meal. And to make it even easier to party, there is a hotel across the parking lot so no driving!! Give 'em a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

Waitstaff was very friendly. Signature drink was good. Portion sizes were incredibly small especially for the price..Desserts were not good at all. Chocolate cake was so,so,so dry. Cheesecake was also surprisingly dry, tasted like an out of the box dessert. Main entree was only ok, salmon Caesar and cheeseburger, both very plain. Went to dinner early on a Saturday eve. We've eaten here before. In fact, I gave this restaurant a great review in the beginning when it was in the original location. Since it has been where it is currently, it's been a mixed bag. Some hits but plenty of misses. Tonight was no exception. The falafel appetizer was the best part of the dinner. Crunchy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, served with pita and salad with tzatziki. I ordered the farmer's salad with hard boiled egg, avocado, bacon bits, Gorgonzola and at what seemed like a half cup of walnuts. As in way too many. Dressing? Not sure. No other veggies besides lettuce. My husband's garden salad was better in the vegetable department but underdressed. The fish in the fish and chips dish had no flavor--no seasoning, very little salt. No salt on the fries either. Very bland. On the plus side, we won't be gulping water all night, but on the other, we want our restaurant food to be flavorful. So while we appreciate where the food comes from, for the price, we expect it to taste better. The waitstaff is pleasant and well meaning but unpolished. read more

This is another great restaurant in Murphys. The waitstaff are friendly, the environment, inside and outside seating, is clean, open and reflects the farm to table theme. The food is beautifully presented and is fresh and well seasoned. I had the Caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and two types of basil in a tangy basalmic vinegrette. My friends had the farmers salad and the Vege lovers plate. All of the produce is fresh, and there are options for vegetarians and vegans and meat lovers. I will eat here and recommend it to anyone visiting Murphys or Arnold! read more

I have eaten here several times and find the food, and service, different every time. The latest visit, prompted by a good local musician that night, I ordered the salmon Caesar salad. The food was good but not great. The fish was undercooked to the point I could not finish the very small serving. The waitress was okay, but not particularly attentive. She never asked why I did not eat the meat, and when I asked about how rare they served it she essentially said that was normal. I had to wait a very long time for the check. On an earlier visit I ordered the cheeseburger, one of the few things with meat from the menu, and was told they were sold out. The soups tend to be the same all the time (perhaps seasonal). The atmosphere is generally very nice, with outdoor seating. The acoustics are poor for a place with music. If you like "farm fresh" vegetable dishes this would probably be a place you would like. I'm giving this little gem of a restaurant 5 stars because I was so impressed with the flavorful meal we had and the courtesy of the staff and the chef. We happened upon this spot because we were in Murphys for a concert at Ironstone Vineyards and we had a room right across the parking lot at the Murphys Suites. Little did we know that one of the best restaurants in this awesome little town was right next to our hotel. Everything we ordered was fabulous, from the Caprese Salad with the most delicious and fresh mozzarella, and the Watermelon Salad that was outstanding, to the Brisket with mashed potatoes--hands down the best mashed potatoes I've EVER had, to the Gnocchi that was melt in your mouth, to the Chicken curry dish with the best flavor and slightly crispy rice, to the Salmon. We were so impressed with the dinners that we decided to go late to the concert and have dessert there! The brownie dessert was wonderful, as was the Pear in pastry dessert. They made me a coconut ice cream with chocolate ganache poured on top and I was in heaven. We decided that the farm to table meal was the best we've had in a very long time anywhere. Chef Jimmy came to our table to check in on us and we raved about his cooking. it could not have been more fresh and flavorful--so satisfying for our group. They could have some better wines to choose from but if you like dessert wine, they did have a really good one that they called Ice wine. yummy. They only had beer and wine and they did have a port along with the Ice wine. Blonde beer was good. So happy we found this spot, it made our whole night and stay worth it. Eric and Christine Taylor are hidden gems. If you need a caterer in the Murphys area, look no further. I organized a 3 day event recently for 70 attendees. Outer Aisle Catering rose to the challenge spectacularly. They supplied us with 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners. They also opened their venue to us as a private club for after dinner mingling. One of our dinners was in the wine caves of Ironstone Vineyards, highly recommended. Eric and Christine were extremely accommodating. The food was inventive and wonderful. All of the produce came from their nearby farm. The price for all of this was very reasonable. Simply amazing! read more

Just had a really wonderful locally sourced organic meal. The ribeye steak with caramelized onions and fresh mushrooms. Add sea salt to taste or just enjoy the grass fed beef flavor. Side of seasonal local vegetables and Yukon golden potatoes. I enjoyed the grass feed beef burger with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese. And side salad that was yummy. We started by sharing a bowl of basil zucchini creamy chicken broth soup. Don't skip eating here when in Murphys. And it is worth a side trip! read more

Just took out the most amazing salad ever from the salad bar at Outer Aisle and had to post. There is nothing this fresh, homegrown and delicious in San Francisco. Whenever my husband and I are in town, we eat here at least one of the weekend nights and shop for produce daily. Some standouts at dinner...love the vegetable tart, best caprese ever with Taylor's heirloom tomatoes, watermelon salad, all of the desserts, flights of local wines and beer, etc. Also noteworthy are the takeout prepared sauces (Romesco), hummus, pesto and more. I can never get enough of this place. One note, the service is friendly but you have to be patient and expect to wait for the food to arrive. This is good and not so good... it is not a SF scene where they want to turn the tables quickly. Bonus: there is outside dining and we can bring our dog. We love this restaurant and can't wait for the next season to see what they'll be growing and cooking. read more

Unfortunately my husband and I did not get to try this place because we walked in at 8:20 PM on a Saturday night (holiday weekend even) and were told we couldn't be seated for dinner because "the kitchen would kill me." This despite the fact the hours posted on the door said the hours were until 8:30pm and that night they were even having live music which we could have been seated for. The silver lining is that we found a great restaurant (Murphy's Grill) around the corner on Main Street in this charming town and had an excellent dinner. read more

We had lunch here yesterday on advice from a local couple that we met at the parade Friday night. The food was great! Everything is fresh, truly farm to table. We saw their farm just a bit farther down the road. Not only is it a great restaurant, but it is also a small grocery store where all of the ingredients used in their meals are available to purchase. I had the soup of the day which was a Radish Potato Puree, like potato soup (dairy free) but with the spice of a radish. It was great! My husband ordered the panini with brie, chicken and pears along with a small salad (included). He really did not need the cup of soup that he had also ordered, but ate anyway. The panini was yummy and huge! Service was superb. There is also a nice area with outdoor seating. Dessert menu looked good but we were too full to try. They also had a great selection of beers on taps and local wines. I hope they are a huge success so that we can return on our next visit to Murphys. read more

We hired Outer Aisle for our annual Harvest Festival twice. We love their farm to table mission and so the menu is somewhat dictated by what's in season. That makes the dining experience more fun. Just ate their this last Thurs. and had their Burger. Tim was the server and did a great job of making it a good experience. He recommended the burger with cheddar cheese. It did not disappoint; large, juicy patty cooked to perfection, awesome bun that held up and just one of the best burgers I have ever had! Some people may say $16 is too much for a burger, but this is worth every penny! Served with house made yummy fries or can get a side salad. Love the Taylor's commitment to organic, sustainable, farm to table ingredients. You can get your factory farmed, unhealthy food any number of other restaurants, NOT here. read more

Food was excellent but overpriced. $22 for a piece of Petrale Sole the size of a deck of cards on top of risotto. A tomato relish on top of the fish finished it off. $23 for 4 scallops on a bed of risotto with pieces of dried prosciutto on each scallop.The service was lackluster but that might have been because we didn't look like the upscale customer they expect. Now if this restaurant was in SF or Berkeley, it would do great but not in the wilds of Murphys, CA. We definitely won't be eating here again. read more

Our family decided to take a drive to Big Trees State Park and after our amazing trip, decided to stop and try this place. The food was really good but the service was horrible. The waitress took more than 30 minutes to bring our drinks out. She finally returned to take our order and then 10 minutes later returned to tell us most of our food choices were out so we had to reorder again. Most of the menu was unavailable. We wanted to substitute salad with fruit and they still charged us a dollar for substituting. She brought our order and then informed us our drink orders were also out. When we are finally served and ready to eat, we waited for our silverware...of course it didn't come. I eventually had to get up and get silverware for myself and our party. We begin eating and discovered our orders were made wrong. Of course we didn't send anything back but we wont be going back or recommending this place. read more

We went to Outer Aisle at my daughter's request for her birthday dinner. She says now she never wants to go any where else for her birthday. She is vegan and was so pleased that the chef came up with a dish both inventive and delicious. So often vegan means just vegetables or some kind of pasta. This was a complete meal including protein. The rest of us also had a delicious meal. They are only open Friday and Saturday for dinner so do make reservations, they are usually totally booked. Recommended for all. read more

I get Outer Aisle's veggie box so I was happy to try their restaurant. I was a bit surprised there wasn't more vegetarian options on the menu given they grow the veggies. We ordered the one vegetarian dinner they offered and a cup of their vegetarian soup. All of the food was very flavorful, nice layering of flavors. I would have given them five stars, but I felt that the quantity of food was a bit light for the price. ($17 for the veg dinner) Perhaps that's not the case when ordering a meat dish, but on the veg dish, I had one polenta square, a scoop of the beans and sauteed swiss chard. It was all very very good, just not a lot of it. read more

My family and I ate here on our way to the mountains. The waiter was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. However, we ordered 3 different menu items and none of them tasted good. The portions were small,the menu was very limited, and the food is expensive. We spent nearly $80 for 3 meals and left still feeling hungry. read more

Where else can you trust that the food you are eating is sourced from the freshest and most sustainably and eco-friendly farmers who know a LOT about what it takes to grow the best fruits and vegetables? Combine this with a chef who is a creative artist who has never let us down with the most delicious-tasting lunches and dinners. Owners Eric and Christine deserve huge kudos for not only growing much of the food they sell at the restaurant but then running a restaurant that never disappoints its clientele! We applaud them for the gift they have given this community and all the folks who travel through Murphys and are smart enough to go to the best of the best!!
