Christine and her team did an amazing job catering our wedding in Copperopolis, CA. They were able to cook onsite at our family's ranch location bringing a full BBQ with them for tri-tip and chicken. They served a beautiful charcuterie table for appetizers and were able to place salad and bread on the tables for people to enjoy while they waited for their turn at the buffet. They even had a vegan option available for dinner for some of our guests. Everyone raved about how delicious all the food was. I have been to Outer Aisle several times since it opened, and the place still impresses. Even the locals love this place, so they are doing something good just off Highway 4 in Murphys. Their restaurant is right next to Murphys Suites right as you enter the town heading up from the Valley. Their focus is on New American food using local and natural ingredients. On my recent trip, my friend and I both had the Waygu Burger. The kitchen prepared the burger exactly to medium rare which let the flavor of the beef really shine. I opted for the fries which was a massive portion served with a sweet ketchup which was a little off. You can get a side salad instead which is probably a healthier option. They have wine and beer and even a good kombucha selection. I am not a big fan of the paper straws which tend to get soft quickly, but I appreciate the effort for natural and sustainable products. Staff was friendly and quick to deliver the tasty food and drinks. Outer Aisle should be a stop for visitors and locals looking for something classic with a modern twist. read more

Lemon chicken with fresh seasonal vegetables was sautéed with herbs moist and juicy. The capers were not over whelming with a pinch of pepper and tossed with lemon. Coconut pineapple cake was moist with a light cream cheese frosting. As my fork dipped densely into perfection my mouth watered with anticipation. This is definately a go to for dinner. Tasty food and a comfortable space. The vegetarian lasagne was a bit over-brown on top, but nicely cooked inside. We were there for a pre-wedding banquet --- the space worked well for that, with a pebbled side yard to enjoy some sun and goof around with the little kids, and a spacious interior for getting groups around a table. Both the vegetarian and meaty dishes worked well. Plenty of parking, which helped for the large group. read more

I just had an amazing dinner with my mom. We started with the chef salad with gorgonzola cheese, pears, garbanzo beans, bacon and balsamic vinnaigrette. We were suprised with the special of the evening, seared scallops over red rice with fennel, very fresh and the scallops were cooked perfectly, simply delicious! Next we both chose the wild caught salmon, cooked per order, (wich we both prefer mid rare), in a light beurre blanc. Every component of each dish was portrayed beautifully and full of flavor. I didn't have to add salt (wich says a lot for me) Great local wine selection as well. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, worth getting off of main street for a breather. I will definitely go back to try the upcoming changes I hear they will be making to the menu! read more

Met a friend here for lunch the other day. My visit was long overdue, as I've wanted to try this place for some time now. Tessi was our server and she was terrific. Warm welcome, unforgettable smile, plenty of suggestions and a sampling of beer. We had the following: Stout beers. Delicious!! Wagyu burgers with avocado and bacon on a home baked bun. Although the burgers were very good, they were really small to the point of hiding inside the bun. Now I like my fries well done, but these were beyond well done, to the point of almost being burnt. They were still yummy, but it would have been nice to have more than just a dozen of these little guys on my plate. Dessert consisted of an almond flour brownie a la mode. This too was yummy, but nothing memorable and quite skimpy as well. Overall our meal was good, but when you drop $70.00 plus a 20% tip, well, it doesn't leave the best taste in your mouth, especially considering how skimpy the portions were. Now don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not an "all you can eat" kind of guy, but I like to feel that I'm getting value for my munching and sipping dollars. I'll definitely come back and try it out again, to see if maybe there's a less skimpy with the food person cooking up vittles in the kitchen next time. Good times in Calico! read more

Started badly: hostess told us to sit anywhere and she would bring menus, so we sat, and sat, but neither menu nor waitress ever materialized. Turned out they had no printed menu (whiteboard menu only) and no table service on this Thursday evening; no explanation or apology offered. The farmers market side of the dining room has beautiful (albeit pricey) produce, and the place and staff have a pleasant hippie commune affect. A small bar seating six or so serves a variety of beers, but we didn't try them. Live music and outside seating available. We came for the food, having read mostly rave reviews on Yelp, and we were both extremely disappointed. We split a grilled veg wrap and a lamb curry kabob. Both plates were beautiful, but sadly presentation turned out to be the high point of the evening. Veg wrap and kabobs both included lightly grilled squash that my wife rated underdone. Considering their wonderful fresh produce, I don't know how they made the veg wrap taste so undistinguished. The lamb was very tough, undercooked, and the curry innocuous. Kabobs included lamb and squash, nothing else. Total tab for two $33 with one glass of house red. Maybe an off night for them, but for us it was genuinely not a good meal and not a pleasant dining experience. read more

The kitchen serves some misses -- our salad was tragically overdressed, drowning out the flavors of high-quality ingredients -- but in general you'll do fine because the raw materials are so good. That said, this spot doesn't hold a candle to the Soldier's Daughter up the road in Arnold, if you can catch during a time when it's open. read more

But now it's even better because they have a bigger better building and they will be open more often and for longer hours, (plus they're just a little closer to my house now so that's good too!) It changes all the time because they only use fresh in-season ingredients so I won't waste your time with a description of the food. Whatever they have will be fantastic! From farm to table and using local beef and bakery items...one of the freshest and tastiest meals I have ever had. Even the iced tea was amazing! The ambience is perfect, service was great, but the food is definitely the star here. The meatloaf that was part of my dish was one of the best that I have ever had... And I love the idea of receiving fresh seasonal fruit (persimmon,plum and mandarin orange) as an accompaniment to my entree instead of the usual veggie that you would find elsewhere. The cheese, olives and Aria baked bread were to die for as well. I am overjoyed to have such a fresh, innovative and healthy dining choice right in my backyard. Food was really good. I had the veggie wrap and the hummus was delicious! Service on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. I was seated and then forgotten. Server came to take my order for drinks and I ordered my food at the same time. He never came back with my water. Another party was seated next to me and same thing happened to them. Finally another employee came to ask how I was doing and brought me some water. Everything else was equally slow, from getting my food, the check and getting my card back. When I left the people at the table next to me were still waiting for their meal but had already been served their dessert. Something else that I thought was strange - a couple came in and were told it was too busy as if they were being shooed away. Gold and Double Gold wines paired with the freshest of farm grown ingredients. Salad with butter lettuce, spinach, Point Reyes Blue cheese and pears with Grenache. Handmade pasta with gourmet mushrooms and truffle oil paired with Syrah. Wagyu beef cooked perfectly rare. Mascapone potatoes and vegetables, with Barbera and Cabernet. Coconut cake for dessert. Outer Aisle Catering --- Highly recommended!! Our wedding was a sunset backyard wedding at my fiance parents' home in Mokelumne Hill, CA (close to Murphys, CA). We catered Outer Aisle for our wedding because we wanted farm-to-table food that is fresh, organic, and local. Outer Aisle provided just that -- food that is fresh, colorful, and organic. The fact that they source their protein from local farmers and only use seasonal produce that came directly from their farm was a plus for us! The food: It was a gastronomic delight and artfully prepared! The cuisine was delicious and has complex flavors at the same time very thoughtful and comforting. The grilled chicken and tri-tip that they grilled on site with their gigantic BBQ set up was amazing. The food was served on time and hot as it should be. The proteins were marinated perfectly and all our guests loved it. They even provided vegetarian dishes for our vegan guests which we greatly appreciated. It was quite a culinary experience! We especially liked the salad and appetizers as they used all the wonderful seasonal fruits and vegetables from their local farm so it was incredibly fresh and satisfying. We also loved the cheese selection that was served. And their signature dish --- the cornbread -- well, it's to die for....yum! The Staff: Christine and Eric Taylor provided a staff of professional servers who understood what service excellence meant. First, we met with Eric and Christine at our home and they took time to survey the area in the backyard where the food was going to be served since it was a backyard wedding. Then they sat down with us to plan the menu in detail. Then on the wedding day, their staff of wonderful people who were very thoughtful in every way served our guests in a buffet line that was set up to flow perfectly. Everything went as planned and we couldn't ask for a more professional staff! Overall, we highly recommend Outer Aisle to cater any event because they can provide a wonderful experience with scrumptious culinary local dishes and present it in a sophisticated and professional way. This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere but it is an oasis of farm fresh, delicious food. There is a great outdoor seating area- the ground is woodchips and there are sunflowers growing everywhere. Music was playing- it was a great vibe. They have wine, kombucha, and beer, and their food is amazing. If for any reason you are going to pass by this gem, pull into the parking lot, go in, and have a quick and delicious meal. read more

My fiancé and I stopped in here for lunch for the simple reason that it was right next to our hotel. The food was pretty good, I especially enjoyed the ranch..... Yes, that's right, the ranch! It was different at first, with a subtle dill taste.... I ended up loving it! The fries, salad, and sandwiches were very yummy as well! My fiancé ordered a coke and was brought a very nicely chilled bottle of a brand of soda I had never heard of- it was made with real sugar and had almost a cream soda-y taste... We both loved it! My tea that I ordered had an odd flavor and I stuck to sipping on my fiancées soda. The service was okay, our food seemed like it took a long time-- but that could have been because we had just spent the last three hours climbing through California Caverns! Also, with that being said, you may want to avoid going into this place unless you are nicely dressed... Unfortunately, we got some disproving looks from staff and I felt as though they were talking about us amongst theirselves. For that reason, I am withholding my fifth star. read more

Both of us being chefs means we appreciate good food but we are also extremely picky;-) We started with the roasted beet salad with bacon and figs, and roquefort dressing with a lettuce wedge. Delicious! We then split the eggplant parmesan which is probably the best i have ever eaten . Every bite sublime. Our next dish was seared scallops on a bed of creamy risotto made with smoked bacon and fresh corn. The 2 desserts were also equally incredible. The chocolate soufflé served in a mini mason jar sitting on a large smear of chocolate ganache and surrounded by slices of sweet pluots, nectarines, and some melon and a quenelle of freshly whipped cream, all fruits coming locally from the owners farm. The cream brûlée was pistachio and also served with the same set up as the chocolate soufflé. We enjoyed everything so much, we went back Sun night before leaving! The service was gracious and attentive. The second time we ordered the bacon sautéed spinach with roasted figs stuffed with blue cheese and drizzled with balsamic reduction. We finally got around to trying Outer Aisle for dinner this evening. What a delicious, wonderful, fresh and tasty experience. Dining out can be a hazardous venture for me because I have a sensitivity to some artificial additives and preservatives and must eat gluten free. I was pleased to see entrees identified as GF on the menu. Our server, Rose, was friendly and welcoming and I didn't have to explain what gluten was or justify why I can't have it! That might not seem like a big deal, but when an ingredient misrepresentation results in 24 hours of agony......it's huge. This cafe is committed to fresh, healthy, locally grown food and sustainable, earth friendly practices. They really mean it. Our menus came clipped to cardboard holders that were made from up cycled veggie boxes and they were artistic and cool looking. The table was set with soft cotton cloth napkins. Rose brought our water in a tall, chilled glass bottle and left it on the table so we could refill our glasses as we liked. I don't like ice or really cold water so again, this was perfect for me. The menu featured only about 5-6 entrees, 3 or 4 appetizer plates, 2 salads and a soup, but each option contained such a rich variety of flavors and textures that it didn't strike me as being limited. Part of the farm to table experience is only having what is in season, but I will take a small number of tasty dishes over a ton of bland, dead, old veggies that traveled 1000 miles in a dank cargo ship any day! There were a few vegan options, a beef, a chicken, a fish and a mussel dish to choose from, so something for everyone. Rose assured me that if I wanted to try any of the non GF options, they could adjust the recipe to make it GF. We started with the Cheese Plate, which came with plenty of fresh fruit instead of bread for me and the crostini that is ordinarily part of the app on a separate plate for my husband. It was soooo good. The blue cheese was amazing and with the crisp apple slices, nuts, honey, jam, kalamata olives, every bite was a new yummy pleasure. My husband also had a salad, and it came without the onions and radishes just as he ordered it. His typical M.O. is to pick out the best parts and leave the rest on the plate. He polished off every last bite. I had the macadamia encrusted sole, which came to the table steaming hot, on a bed of creamy risotto and topped with a delicious and beautiful shredded apple creation and Bacon. Again, a unique and perfectly complimentary blend of flavor and texture....with no gluten. My husband had a pasta special with Mountain Ranch Chicken and he said it was really good. Both meals were generously portioned, I took half of mine home. Finally, for dessert, we ended with a chocolate soufflé fresh out of the oven, finished with a huge glob of freshly whipped cream and strawberries and French pressed coffee. I feel like I overused the word fresh in this review, but I had to! It really is and the entire meal had that "made from scratch just for you taste." I'm looking forward to returning often and can only imagine how much more amazing it will be at the peak of the harvest season. The restaurant was clean and comfortable with eclectic, uncluttered decor. We had a 5:30 reservation and it was quiet when we arrived, but quickly filled up, so I think reservations are a good idea. Even when the room was pretty full, it didn't get too noisy so we were able to enjoy a relaxing conversation. I rated it as a casual attire, but the atmosphere would also be conducive to a dressier, date night type of attire if desired. I answered "yes" to whether it's good for kids, but there is a caveat. If your children appreciate real food, like fruit and veggies and are well behaved little persons with utensil skills, then yes. If they only eat french fries that come in bags with toys, maybe not so much. read more
