We went to this restaurant at the suggestion of a friend. There were 4 of us eating. We ordered the XL Outlaw Burger, the Brisket Reuben, the 1/2 rack Ribs, and a Baked Potato with Mac and cheese for my no meat eating daughter. The burger was good. Huge, only complaint was it had too much cheese. The seasoning they put on their fries made them awesome! The Reuben, my son said, was a unique approach on the Reuben (which he loves.) As they use brisket instead of corned beef or pastrami. He did say that when he had a bite of the burger, it was better. But he DID like the sandwich. The red barbecue sauce they used on the ribs is INCREDIBLE! I even tried the yellow sauce and it was good as well. I would have been happy to use either one. I got the bacon potato salad and a ceaser salad for my sides and substituted the white bread with the cheesy corn bread. I think the corn bread was nice and sweet. I could have done without the block of cheese in the center. I am picky about my potato salad, and theirs was pretty good. The Mac and cheese was really good. We think they put the BBQ sauce mixed in. And the potato was average. It might be better with all the meats on it, but as we had it with just cheese and green onion, it was just an average potato. Tough place to review for me. ordered the plate that got me basically everything they do. Ill start with the bad. The brisket. Whoa... no way they can serve that and call themselves BBQ. I live very close to Outlaw and order to go often. I just had a small issue with a to go order and didn't notice till I got home. Once we saw the issue, I gave them a quick call to explain what happened. The manager asked if I lived close, and proceeded to hand deliver us a completely new order ALONG with some delicious cake, on the house. No charge or questions. I am blown away with there customer service. Mistakes happen and that's ok! Thank you so much to the manager for making it right, and the whole staff for always making some of the best food in town. We discovered this gem 2 weeks ago. Had to come back tonight! Last week I had the Pull pork sandwich and my husband had the smoked brisket. So much delicious food!!! Tonight we shared the "small" Outlaw nachos with smoked brisket. They had nacho cheese, regular cheese, onions, tomatoes, pickle jalapeños, and seasoned chips. Every bite, I say every bite WAS DELICIOUS! Plenty of food! I hear the large could feed 4-6. I had a Moscow mule to drink and had to have 2!!! Yum. Service is top notch. Very friendly. I have had bbq from all over the country so I was sooo excited to try Outlaw with all the hype I've heard...but I was incredibly let down by the quality of the food we received. We got a sampler so we could try a bit of everything and make a good judgement. All of the meats were VERY dry as if they were bottom of the barrel leftovers, yet they were over sauced-likely to try to make up for the meat being dry-and somehow lacked flavor other than an overpowering weird sweetness from the sauce. The sides were mediocre at best...the southern mac and cheese actually kind of broke my heart. Maybe it was the location, maybe it was just a REALLY bad day...I am not sure but this was not a good experience. I won't completely write them off and maybe I'd try it another day and another location but it was a huge waste of money this time around. read more

The staff was fun, friendly, and engaging. Very good service. My wife and I had heard lots of good stories about this BBQ restaurant. The western decor has a kind of Texas Roadhouse feel to it. We started off with their fried pickles with their BBQ ranch dipping sauce....FANTASTIC! I tried their 3 meat platter and also got 2 ribs. Starting off with the ribs....they were amazing! The pulled pork wasn't the best I've ever had but it was serviceable. My wife seemed to like it though on her pulled pork nachos with chips that were pretty good too. I chose the sausage as one of the meats expecting it to be more fatty and go with the tradition of BBQ but was disappointed to finally get to it and it was over cooked and it was a local companies effort (Sonnenbergs). Tasted more sweet and almost exactly like Italian sausage which to me wasn't good. I saved what should have been the best for last....but no. The brisket was no-good. Taste more like pot roast that was dry. The smoke ring looked good but did not have the smoke flavor....not sure how you pull this off. I opted to have their cheesy cornbread muffins....they were very dry and the only thing that helped was the maple butter that was provided. The southern mac and cheese was pretty decent. My baked potato was lukewarm also. I do have to say though....the sweet tea was exceptional. For a "Texas" style BBQ place they have quite a way to go to earn that name. They do not offer some of the staples of a traditional Texas BBQ place (fried catfish, black eyed peas, hush puppies, fried okra). Normally when I go to a BBQ place the meats rank more like you should expect....BRISKET, RIBS, and then either SAUSAGE or PULLED PORK......however I rank theirs as follows 1. RIBS 2. PULLED PORK 3/4. Looks great, tastes aweful. This place seemed promising. Smelled great and had a country feel. The first red flag was the wait time. The place was empty, but brisket and nachos took a half hour. Smoked brisket is cooked for hours, so it's either ready when you order it, or you can come back tomorrow. The nachos were super soggy chips topped with super dry brisket. We scraped it off and decided to give the half pound a try. It was not as dry, but still super dry. In my opinion, the very worst part was the complete lack of seasoning on the brisket. This is a nice casual Western vibe with bench seating and tables with chairs. On one side is the bar. There are several TV's so it's a good place to watch sports. When you come in, you seat yourself, but I always go up to the dessert counter and plan ahead. Desserts are made in house and there are always a large variety to choose from. I've been told gently they also have karaoke on some nights! I don't know how anyone can say you don't get a lot of food. Their salads come in huge mixing bowls where they barely fix in a Togo box! My husband ordered the nachos and couldn't finish them (he's not one to leave food behind). Five of my friends also once ordered the nachos and couldn't finish it. If you're having trouble deciding which meat, the pulled pork is my favorite. My bbq pulled pork sandwich was mediocre at best, the slaw was tasteless. The pork was chewy and the bread was cold along with dry. My roommates bbq brisket "slider"/sandwich weighing in $13.00 had a huge chunk of fat/nerve. When paying that much for a "slider" you would hope it was All brisket and no play. We found out 16 hours before a Baby shower that we didn't have the food we thought we did, huge disaster when we were expecting 50 people at 2PM the next day. We were coming from out of state state so we were not familiar with the restaurants in the area. The good: While the pulled pork was flavorful, especially with the sauces that were provided, I really liked two of the sides....Mac and Cheese was awesome and their coleslaw was flavorful....yes I am praising coleslaw! The roles that were provided were also tender and made for a great sandwich. Desserts were also tasty, and were homemade. What could have been better: The little cornbread muffins were rather dry. The ribs, while tasty, were a little tough compared to what I would like. Yea, I am being a little picky, especially for catered food. i would not hesitate to use Outlaw BBQ for a catered event. This is a terrific BBQ spot hidden away on the north side. It's been around a while and we've eaten here a few times but I've never gotten around to extolling its virtues. Since I've never eaten bbq in Texas I cannot speak to how regionally authentic the food is but let me say this, it's awfully darn tasty. Often times at places like this there is a tendency to over smoke but not here. Just the right combination of smoke and seasoning in everything they do. On our last we happened upon their Sunday buffet so we got to sample a lot of everything. Ribs, pulled pork, and chicken were all off the chain. Sad that they didn't have brisket on the buffet because we've enjoyed that on our previous visits. They also had several of their sides on the buffet that included a spicy Tex-mex macaroni salad that seemed to take pleasure in burning your face off (in the best possible way).
