This shop has a very odd way of doing business. I called them to ask if they could do repair on my classic car. They said "sure, no problem" and quoted me $450 at first - but every time they recapped the price went up: "Sure, we can do that for you, it'll be about $450. We get these all the time, so $550 is what you can expect to pay. It's a pretty simple job, should get you in and out in a day for $700. So bring it on down and we'll get you taken care of for $850." Huh? What happened to $450? Do they think I'm so dumb I didn't notice the price doubled in 30 seconds, every time they recapped? If they're that slippery over the phone, what are they going to be like when they have you over a barrel with your car in the shop? All the other shops that work on classic cars have closed, so I figured I had no choice. I told them let's do it, they said "we're a little busy right now, we'll call you in a week and tell you to bring it in." TWO WEEKS later, no call. So I called them and they acted like they never heard of me before. I described my issue all over again and was again told "we're a little busy right now, we'll call you in a week to bring it in." TWO MORE WEEKS pass, no call. So I called them. This time they remembered me, and said "there's just one car ahead of you, an old Mustang. We're waiting for parts. As soon as it's done, you're in! Should be two or three more days." THREE MORE WEEKS later, no call. I called again, this time they said "there's just one car ahead of you - an old Lincoln - it's so big there's no room in the shop for anyone else! We're just waiting for parts. As soon as it's done, you're in!" HUH? What happened to the Mustang? I thought as soon as the Mustang was done it was my turn. I guess not. ONE MONTH LATER still no call. You can't tell me they're turning away several months of business while one car hogs up the shop collecting dust waiting for parts--no way. Meanwhile, their Facebook page is a revolving door of cars coming and going during the three months I had been waiting for an appointment. They did not say when I first called it would be that long a wait, just the opposite. I called one last time, got the same song and dance, then just wrote them off. (Six months later, still no call - NEVER heard back from them again, ever.) Shame on these people for not just telling you up front to go someplace else. They run their business like a high school clique rather than a shop that is supposedly open to the public. Perhaps a call to the Livonia city ordinance office would remind them that a business open to the public is not allowed to deny access to prospective patrons on an ad-hoc basis. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

Another repair shop and a Ford dealer gave up fixing my mustang, but Jeff and his team didn't give up my mustang, finally found the problem, and got my mustang back on the road. He even washed my car before picking it up. :) Thanks to the Oval Auto team, I could continue my stories with the first mustang in my whole life. Can't say enough good things about these guys; 5 stars only because we can't give more than 5. Here's my take on the auto repair business; there's 3 key things, two of which are very hard for the layperson to access. 1-Diagnosing the problem. 2-Fixing the problem. 3-Being honest about what needs done. 1-Jeff has many years experience and is excellent at diagnosing the problem. Obviously some things are easier than others; e.g., the brakes grind, you need brake pads; other noises or symptoms can be much harder to figure out. He's a master at figuring it out and won't give up till he has. 2-Fixing it. This is what every professional shop can do. 3-Honesty. This is the most important one - yet the hardest one for the layperson to assess. e.g., Did your brake job really need rotors too or would just pads have been enough. Did you really need that new radiator or was it just a hose that was leaking? Did you really need all the tie rods and ball joints and suspension links replaced or would've ball joints been enough? ...etc, etc. Sooner or later there will be times where a less-than-honest shop can oversell a repair for extra labor and parts dollars. And the layperson will never know. This is where the trust comes in. I am absolutely convinced Jeff is as honest and straight a shooter as there is in the car business. He'll tell you what your car needs and not oversell repairs you don't need. read more
