Dena, the scheduling coordinator, made the whole process smooth and easy. Julie Anderson R.N., was amazing -- always available to answer my texts and questions throughout the entire process, which meant so much during recovery. Dr. Park, the anesthesiologist, was also excellent and made me feel completely comfortable. Dr. Owens is truly the best. He is patient, thoughtful, and takes the time to answer questions without ever making you feel rushed. Thanks to his skill and the support of this great team, I was walking within two weeks with only mild cane support after my hip replacement. Dr. Owens did the replacement of my right hip 16 years ago and I cannot be certain that I will come up with the words that express my thanks to him and his office staff. I was at Verdugo Hills Hospital for the operation and I was sent home 4 days after the operation. I felt that I had no issues with walking and I actually drove my car to join a friend for pizza that same night. I was going to get the walker out of the trunk and decided against it. All was great and no pain. 3 years later Dr. Owens replaced both of my knees in a single operation. I was driving my car within 10 days of the operation. I had 4-6 in home physical therapy and was signed off as not needing to go to additional therapy after the at home visits. What can I say. I am currently in the midst of getting back into the medical coverage that allowed Dr. Owens to be my surgeon. I had no idea that he wouldn't be covered by my current policy. Anyway, you can tell that I think that Dr. Owens walks on water. Relax and be grateful that his knowledge and talent are available to us. read more

Went to see Dr. Owens for a shoulder issue. He sent me to get an MRI. When I came back to find out what the diagnosis was, he walked into the office and said "remind me while you're here" to say the least I was completely shocked. He then all of a sudden remembered that. Oh yeah, I need surgery. He never explained the MRI. He never showed me anything. He never discussed anything else. When I told him I'd like to explore other avenues before I decided on surgery, he said to me "I'm a surgeon" he's rude arrogant and has no bedside manner. He left the office in a few minutes later a nurse came in and handed me a paper and said he wants you to go to physical therapy. to say the least, I will never go back to this office again. read more

Dr. Owens is an experienced, highly-skilled and caring physician. His nurse Dina is a total doll, too. What more could you ask for? He fixed my shoulder and did a knee replacement for me a few years ago. Now that I'm facing a hip replacement, I wouldn't hesitate to have him do the surgery! I'm seeing Dr. Owens now and for a new development - i.e. a separated shoulder - the thing just doesn't want to stay in its' place/socket. If you've never had this? It's like when your shoulder comes out of the socket you're in incredible pain. No longer have use of your right or left side. Literally can't lift your arm on that side. So it's scary. But I'm older now, things are breaking-down (two major knee replacements in the last four years done by the equally-sensational Dr. John A. Ostercamp). So you pick yourself up - head over to the best doctor/doctors that money can buy. Feeling very blessed just to have this office, i.e. doctors like Dr. Owens - so close by. A lot of people don't have this. This is good fortune. I know of Dr. Owens from the numerous friends/patients he has fixed. People I know from the N.Glendale area. My church, my YMCA, the local senior center, etc. To a person they rave about Dr. Owens. Consider him something of a Wizard. But remember that the Kerlan-Jobe Sports Medicine Office at USC-VHH is filled with wizards. Namely Dr. Owens, Dr. Ostercamp, Dr. Loren M. Geller, Dr. Mona Zall. If you're lucky-enough to be treated by any of the aforementioned doctors you're lucky. The Kerlan-Jobe Sports Medicine office is rarified air space. L.A. Lakers and L.A. Dodgers and Clippers are frequent visitors. Just so you know the overall reputation of this office. If you run across a friend who's just had surgery? In our area of town? Most will tell you the surgery was performed by the above. Dr. Owens name comes up frequently, and I can't tell you the amount of times someone marvels at Dr. Owens' surgery, class, office etiquette. This entire office, between the Doctors and Front Office Personnel, X-Ray Tech's, especially the nurses such as Dr. Owens (Dina) and Dr. Ostercamp (Allison). Are top of the line. I'm looking at an MRI on Friday, possible Shoulder Replacement surgery. I'd be scared spitless if it wasn't Dr. Owens doing the surgery. Have complete and utter confidence in Dr. Owens, the entire office. They've fixed me three different times. I'm only leading a regular, active life because of the care I've received from these great doctors - this great office. read more

Dr Owens is a Genius! I am a fitness expert that while in preparation for the biggest and most important Muscle Contest of my career on the Men's Physique division. I am 43 y/o and in 24 years of weight lifting and Bodybuilding I never had any major injuries as this I suffered last November. Next day, a Tuesday I was seen by Dr Owens and since I had full tear 3rd degree I was scheduled for surgery on Friday of that week. I felt confident since the beginning because first, a distant relative and later a family member were treated by Dr Owens. Both had a great intervention and a pleasant experience but most importantly......they both recovered well from their injuries and gained full mobility back. Well, 2 weeks after my surgery, Saturday morning, I was taken to ER due to an infection on my right bicep that got developed from a blood clot. Since Huntington Memorial Hospital was the closest to me that's were I was taken....MISTAKE! But that's a different story this is not a review for that Hospital, I will speak about my experience there later. Since it was a big abscess I needed surgery....yes again! Sunday i go to surgery once again. Weak and in tremendous pain I spend one more night at Huntington. Next morning, Monday I asked to be discharged so I could see Dr Owens. Once in front of Dr Owens the first thing he asked me..."Why didn't they call me?". I realized he didn't like what he saw and specially not to be informed by Huntington Memorial Hospital. Immediately Dr Owens schedules me for a 3rd surgery to fix what these other people did for next day Tuesday early morning. Very very weak I spent that Monday night at home. The pain was managed with strong pain killers that made me nauseous, lose my appetite, dehydration and terrible constipation. Tuesday morning, feeling so weak and afraid and with an unpleasant feeling like life leaving my body! Regardless....I was taken to Verdugo Hills Hospital to be put under the knife once again but this time like the fist I knew I was going to be fine and thankfully, that is what happened! I had a great experience almost pain free. The Anesthesiologist and everyone were great but that's another story. Dr Owens not only repaired my torn pectoral but also made sure the infection on my bicep was properly attended as well as the surgical procedure they put me through at the ER of the Huntington Memorial Hospital (I do NOT recommend anyone to get any type of medical care there......but again, it's another story) was overseen double check I had no problems of any kind. Now, I am in rehabilitation and little by little I am recovering mobility in my right arm and the pain and soreness is reducing day by day! The rehabilitation process is also painful to fire up muscle fibers that were reattached and also those fibers that are atrophied from immobility. But for what I see I think I will recover full functionality and fully mobility in my Arm! YES! I am a very happy patient and I highly recommend Dr Owens! read more

Dr. Stephen Owens was referred to me by Dr. Plance, while I was attending to him for my shoulder pain cure. After MRI Dr. Owens recommended to have the Arthroscopy ASAP to prevent more damage to my broken tendons. A month ago Dr. Owens did the operation. I have no pain as I have before, only pains are curing pains which is disappearing by each session of physiotherapy. I can feel that Dr. Owens did a great and superb job. Excellent! I liked Dr. Owens and his friendly professional staff from the very start. After X-Ray's showed my hip to be bone on bone (believe me I already felt the pain it caused) I appreciated that Owens did not try to "sell me" on surgery. Once I decided to have total hip replacement surgery, all procedures were properly implemented. The day before my surgery Owens really checked in with me by asking, "Ok are you ready for this?" He gave me the indication that I could change my mind if I wanted too. I didn't and had surgery the next day. Before the operation, I especially needed to be reassured I would do well, and Dr. Owens was supportive and encouraging the entire time. I highly recommend Dr. Owens! Dr. Stephen G. Owens is a GREAT DOCTOR. I injured my ACL and meniscus on a trampoline of all things! I was really scared and he explained the procedure to me in a completely kind and detailed way that reassured me about not being frightened that he needed to replace my torn ACL with a cadaver (which freaked me out). He is such a good doctor, brilliant, kind, caring, honest and perfect. The surgery was so easy, the staff were really great, everyone is so professional and knowledgeable, Dr. Owens has a wonderful efficient staff. It has been about 2 months since surgery and I'm doing really well. One could not even tell that I've even had surgery bc the minor scars from the cuts, are almost completely healed. This is not a review of Dr Owens--he is a good dr. His front desk staff Erlina needs serious training! She feels her job is too difficult, so she chooses not to help patients! I've been here in the past prior to her hire and it was wonderful. Erlina should not be working in a service capacity. She refused to help a patient who was impaired physically due to an injury (it is an orthopedist office--the patient was here for help) with paper work. She explained legally she could help, but she had too many files. The patient couldn't see the dr due to Erlina's incompetence. Claudia works here as well and she is an angel. I was referred to Dr Owens by the Surgeon who had successfully replaced both of my knees. I had a congenital hip problem that I was not aware of until the second knee surgery. I had been compensating with my left knee for years. My hip problem was exasperated by an injury probably caused by a head on collision years ago on the freeway. From the first day after surgery, I had NO pain! Unbelievable in my mind! No need for pain meds! It has been only 3 weeks since surgery, but I am doing extremely well. Out of privacy, I am writing this review on behalf of my mom. I have never in my life seen such a terrible doctor perform surgery. First of all, my mom didn't need surgery. She went to seek Dr. Owens medical expertise and he suggested surgery on her torn meniscus. After my mom has the surgery and she saw other doctors and PT's, they all said she should have never had the surgery to begin with. He also never required her to get physical therapy afterwards which has resulted in indescribable pain. My mom's knee will never be the same. I don't know how this guy is allowed to be a Doctor. I hope he loses his license one of these days....just not at anyone else's expense. It makes me sad that he will continue to damage people's well being. read more

My son and I have been patients of Dr. Owens for over 15 years. I had a total knee replacement and have had multiple arthroscopic procedures. My son had ankle surgery, thumb surgery and multiple follow ups. He's an athlete and having a good Orthopedic Doc is required. The office staff is polite, pleasant, accommodating and very competent. I have no idea who Nancy M. from So. San Francisco saw but it certainly doesn't sound like the same Dr.Owens I have trusted for so many years. Worst receptionist in the world! (Erlina) Came in with a broken hand ... which I clearly can't write with - and I was refused doctor because I can't fill out paperwork! How does anyone with a broken hand see the doctor? The receptionist has REFUSED to help me with paperwork even though I have all info and documents. Can't get into my appointment! I want to begin by saying that Dr. Owens is quite kind and capable, but not extraordinary. My treatment there for a badly sprained ankle was an X-ray and time off. Nothing to red flag him to my insurance company...like a much needed MRI or a crutch. Then I scheduled an injectable to help my left knee, and it's been worse ever since. I didn't think there was a bad way to do it. All in all, I find the office VERY lacking in compassion too, especially Iris the office manager. Worst of all, I've never had an office charge $25 for needed paperwork. Are they that strapped for money! This office will find any and every nit picking way to separate you from your money and they make it quite clear...no money, no information. I suggest holding onto ALL your Medical Records too. read more

Dr Owen has performed rotator cuff and ankle surgery on me I can't speak more highly of his skills. I went years with having horrible pain until my surgeries and now I am pain free with complete mobility. I'd trust him completely. I can't say enough positive about Dr. Owens, his staff, and the entire staff at Verdugo Hills Hospital Day Surgery Center. I waited to get my torn meniscus surgically treated because I was not sure the pain was bad enough to risk a surgery that might not help. Dr. Owens was patient and had me do physical therapy to avoid surgery a few years ago. When the pain worsened recently after a fall he asked if I was ready to let him fix it. He didn't promise there would be no complications, but he was willing to do the surgery and was optimistic. A week ago I had this out patient surgery. I used crutches the first day and a cane for 2 days. Now week later I am improving to the point of only slight discomfort with Tylonal a few times a day. The stitches were removed today by his kind, knowledgable nurse Deana who answered a few of my questions over the phone promptly. I am thankful for the excellent care and results I have received. read more
