My aunt and I stopped in after eating dinner next door for a couple after dinner cocktails. So glad we did! The vibe was super chill and staff was so sweet and friendly. I ordered an espresso martini while my aunt had a coffee and baileys. Loved my tini. The bartender added a piece of lemon as an aromatic on the rim of my glass, I love that it enhanced the flavor of the coffee while helping cut the bitterness at the same time. My aunts coffee was a French pressed and honestly the perfect night cap. And since it was my birthday the staff was so sweet and hooked me up with a sweet treat, was so good, it was like a nutter butter but better. What's not to like? Like the previous Yelper mentioned, the loud and rowdy crowd compounded by open mike night. The last thing I was in the mood for after work were drunks thinking they sing The Doors songs just like Jim Morrison. I was quick to pay and leave. I went straight home to relax. My wife is a lightweight. Half a drink and she's giggling, one and she's toast. She had two here and didn't even get fuzzy knees. Watch them pour, it's a comedy routine. Either they're using eyedroppers or they dock bartenders for every shot they give away. The worst part was the bill. Every single price on the menu was lower than what showed up when we paid. Turns out those are "cash prices," which you only find out afterward. That's deceptive, plain and simple. The food was bland, small portions for big-city prices. Today we went to the famed Oxenfrē Public House for the very first time since all of the coworkers strongly recommended this restaurant. The consensus is that this place has one of the best beer and excellent foods. We went and ordered a glass of wine and hot coffee for a lunch. The coffee was served in a stainless steel French hot coffee presser with Mickey Mouse coffee mug and chilled whole milk and white granulated sugar packs and chilled red wine from yesterday, but once warmed up to a room temperature, the Educated Guess came to life. The Poutine has excellent fries with tasty gravy with cheese, bacons and cheese curds with extra gravy and mayonnaise. The 19 dollar burger with Wagyu beef was more than the best burger. Probably one of the best tasting burger of all time. From the juicy medium rare perfectly pan grilled Wagyu beef patty and Ciabatta breads and just perfect thick Texas bacons, lettuce, blue cheese, Alioli and excellent pickles trailblazer of full taste robustness made this burger one of the bests! I am recommending this establishment for the sheer big tasty menu and their overall experience. Good staffs and friendly service with reasonable price and atmosphere make it very attractive place for dining out. They open at 4 o'clock so don't go for lunch please! read more

As soon as we enter this place, they tell us everything they are out of, Bourbon and Gin. I don't put that on the bartenders but management. They are also out of mash potatoes? Really?? Another thing to mention is the bar stunk and was filled with little flies. Not a good sign for a big place like this. They obviously haven't been taking care of it. Impressive from the street, not so much from inside. I recommend you pass and find one of the smaller breweries VERY close by. read more

My wife and I took an impromptu drive to escape smoke in our area and wound up in Brookings. After a day of walking on the beaches we started looking for an early diner, a quick Yelp search landed us at Oxenfre' Public House. Without going into full details let me just say this was one of the best meals we've had at a restaurant in years. Go with an appetite and work your way down the menu. Be sure to try the deep fried deviled eggs. Portions were good sized and flavors carefully thought out. Absolutely outstanding restaurant. We stood in cresent city for the week and by far this was the best restaurant we had visited within a 50 mile radiace. The ambiance was quirky and classy. They have small oil lamps on every table which I found amazing cool! Our waitress was very nice, she was helpful and quick. First dish we tried was the fried devil eggs. It's nothing like you've ever had or will have again if not here. They were soo good I swallowed 3 of them before my partner made it back to the table. Next, we had the pozole. Now we both come from Hispanic backgrounds, and this pozole knocks most of them out the ball park. It was perfect temperature, full of flavor. They added sour cream drizzle and a bundle of thin fried tortilla strips. It was definitely a sexy looking dish. We also decided to try there cocktails. Our waitress suggested out first drink, mine was spicy and sweet she picked a winner for me. Next I had the bloody Mary, also very good. Perfect amount of clam flavor and just the right amount of spice and sour. The coolest one if a draft beer from the older brewery in the world. But that was it. 30 minutes after ordering she came to the table and said the kitchen printer was down and the kitchen didn't get any orders so sorry but it will be made now. It took someone 30-40 minutes to figure out a restaurant full of people had NO FOOD COMING OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!! Dumb. Well you think it would get better with food? Nope. Tacos. How can you F that up? They did ! 2 six inch shells on a plate with filling meat and onion pieces that you could cover with your pinky. Like it looked really weird. I think the waitress even had a look on her face that said. WTF! These people waited 45 minutes for this sh!t! Go anywhere but here. So bad. Years ago they had a menu you'd drive 3hours for. The fries were super crispy and the gravy was just dripping all over everything The fried deviled eggs were the perfect combination of crunchy with a little sweet tang! We weren't sure what gave the sweetness, but it almost tasted like some kind of pepper jam. It was amazing! For the main course, we got the banh mi sandwich and the short ribs. I love a good banh mi sandwich, and we were excited when we saw wagyu! The menu describes the meat as a meatloaf burger, which isn't very appealing in itself. We thought we'd give it a try, but the meat was kind of a soggy mess that didn't hold together very well. I was thinking that the high fat content of wagyu could have changed the texture a bit, or perhaps it was just not prepared well that time. The short ribs, however, were excellent! The ribs themselves were quite tender. There was no need for knives, as the meat just peeled right off at the grains. I only wish there was more sauce over them! We finished with the ice cream sandwich, which was filled with rocky road ice cream. She said the flavor of the day was rocky road, so I'm not sure if it rotates. Absolutely delicious! Previously I would have given Oxen Fre 5 stars and I've been a customer for years. However I was sad to discover that they recently changed their vibe drastically and pared down their menu for more of a traditional pub feel. The menu, while good for pub food, is missing a number of my favorite items. No more tacos, short ribs, or fresh fish selection. No salads? Personally I don't feel that the area needs yet another pub--it needed the classy restaurant and cocktail bar that it used to be. So I hope the owners read my constructive criticism here. I used to drive an hour and a half round trip to visit Oxen Fre, but now I don't really see the point. From a starving healthcare worker, please bring back the original Oxen Fre--I'm heartbroken. read more

The happy hour menu offers $5 optIons of tasty treats that kill it with unique spin on favorites like fried piickles and homemade tater tots. Not to mention bbq sliders. Delicious cocktails. Or just mosey over to regular menu and go for those delicacies! The vibe here is WONDERFUL! As locals start pouring in for happy hour you feel like you are among friends or potentially could be friends. Groups of friends meeting each other was fun to observe. It gives you a feel of what this interesting community must be like. Every age group represented. Our dinner was delicious, amazing and the quantity was way more than we expected. Their Shrimp and grits with sausage and bacon was to die for.. creamy grits!! The vegetable platter that my daughter ordered was over the top. Giving this place some love! We popped in at happy hour 4-6 PM, 16oz microbrew pints on tap for $3.50. Top that! Lots of good eats for $4, like, sliders, tacos, fries, etc. Wagyu burger is a thick 2-hander with braised bacon, aged cheddar, mama lil's peppers, picked onions on a tasty roll with cajun fries. Worth the quality and taste @$17. Excellent! And they got a solid menu of good eats supporting local farms and organic. They have a pool table. We played a little shuffleboard. Fun! Check their web for live music. Service and ambiance right on! Right on the #101 in downtown Brookings in the Banana Belt (Google that if you don't know what the banana belt is). It is a good reason why you want to visit Brookings on the southern most Oregon coast and take my recommendation to eat, drink and party at Oxenfre. Right on my list of things to do too! read more

Nicely decorated, clean and fairly comfortable. Good place to have drinks and good food. Speaking of the food and the drinks: YUM! In all, we had 3-4 different cocktails, all of which were well-balanced and tasty. Food was rich and fabulous. We tried the Poutine, the Duck Confirm Salad and the Macaroni & aged Cheese w/ Lardons. I always look for new and exciting places to eat whenever I travel and this place had high reviews. I'm almost speechless and didn't quite enjoy myself as much as I wanted because of my 3 year old. With that said, I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect plate of food in my life. Especially for a Reuben. Pretzel bun was sooo soft and chewy. Not dense like others and prob the best I've ever had. Pastrami was thin and lean with great flavor. Mustard had a nice bite and the pickled coleslaw was excellent. The pub fries were crispy and had a parmesan/garlic flavor, but not overwhelming. AND THE RANCH! Had a dill flavor. Heaven. My son had chicken strips. Juicy, tender white meat. Hand crafted sodas. Can't beat the happy hour prices. The food is a little more than other places but well worth it, especially for fresh, local, organic ingredients. Service was just as awesome. Cozy pub environment where even my 3 year old could be a little louder and I didn't have to worry about stares. Sorry for the long review, but this place is amazing. But with that being said, the food is amazing! The menu is fun and creative and portions are great! Had the Mac n cheese, deviled eggs and pretzel bites. The Mac n cheese has blue cheese and it's amazing. So creamy and flavorful but a bit heavy. The deviled eggs are so unique. They fry the egg white then top with the yolk and bacon and waffle fry. So so good! The pretzel bites were the best thing we had. The pretzels were doughy and the pub cheese was delicious. I would buy it by the tub. Had 2 manhattans and 2 old fashions. Both were creative, good amount of alcohol and artfully topped. Toasted lemon rind... whatttt? Entree we took to go but wow! Chicken and waffle is delicious. The waffle was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside and the chicken was well seasoned. With some maple syrup... 100%! Plus the tots with house made ranch were the perfect add on.
