Since the new ownership took over, this place is definitely not the same. We visited on a busy summer day, and the wait staff situation was horrible--there were only two people waiting tables for the entire place. Because they were so understaffed, our food sat around waiting to be delivered and came to the table cold. The wings were completely soggy and cold from sitting in the buffalo sauce, which was incredibly disappointing because the food itself actually tasted great. The wait staff seemed both completely overwhelmed and entirely careless. Interestingly, they had plenty of bus girls working, and honestly, those girls were more helpful than the servers. Management needs to get them trained to help wait tables quickly, because right now, the leadership is totally off. To make matters worse, the restroom was filthy. It was unclean to the point that we could actually smell the stench of urine while sitting at our table. The kitchen has potential, but management needs to fix the staffing, training, and cleanliness issues immediately.

Always a must on any trip to brookings. The pizza quality is top notch. One of my favorite pizzas anywhere in the US

Zola's is a must-stop every time I'm in Brookings, and they always deliver. The food is consistently great, and the service somehow manages to be even better. If you're sitting at the bar, Brian will absolutely take care of you friendly, attentive, and knows how to make the experience memorable without being overbearing. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like a regular, even if you're just passing through. Hands down one of the best spot in Brookings. Consistent, welcoming, and worth every visit.

AMAZING drinks! Brian at the bar is the BOMB! Smoked old fashion and a peach black pepper mint something mule type drink that ROCKS! By the way, wood fired pizza and food that matches the drinks! The bar is awesome with a custom top representing the Chetco River!

Creamy tomato soup, clam chowder and Sunday night special: Rigatoni Bolognese with side salad

We find ourselves back at Zola's craving for pasta, chowder and pizza. We came by for lunch on a Sunday. Seating was readily available than being here on a busy day like Friday or Saturday. We opted to sit outside on their covered patio during a warmer winter day. Menu is limited at lunch so I begged my bf for us to come back at dinner and get some takeout. The good: - Big Peppa Pizza was excellent. The dough was baked right and the toppings were really tasty. We were kinda kicking ourselves for not getting a bigger size than a 12" but it was a good serving for 2. - Clam chowder bread bowl was a perfect hit this time. Perfect ratio of clams and potatoes, tasty creamy soup base and the bread bowl is freshly baked. This is something I would eat over and over again if I lived near here. My bf said it's among his Top 3 favorite clam chowders he's ever had, along with popular Bay Area spots, Scoma's (San Francisco) and Spud Point (Bodega Bay). - Calamari, also tasty. Tender squid with subtle crisp and a hint of curry powder (?). - Creamy Tomato Soup, you can tell it's house made. It tastes fresh, no bitter aftertaste, well seasoned. - Rigatoni Bolognese, al dente pasta with meat sauce, possibly the tomato soup and pasta sauce are made from the same house made base. I ordered this because it was their Sunday special but I prefer their spaghetti and meatballs or other pasta options which unfortunately aren't available for lunch. - House salad, I cannot believe how fresh the salad greens were. The entire night I was in disbelief and boasting about how great the salad greens were. We visited a few grocery stores around the area prior to ordering takeout and their greens were wilted and sad but Zola's, they were like picked from a garden that same day. I still can't get over it. The not so good: Our server dropped the calamari all over our table, didn't apologize or say anything, didn't replace the dish. To not ruin our lunch, we gave her a pass, just instilled in our heads that she was probably new to the service industry and didn't know what to say or do. Will I be back? Absolutely. I would like to try all the items on the menu eventually, especially their pizzas and baked options. I would also give a verdict of food consistency after a few more visits since our very first visit experience here was also not so great but good enough for us to return. With this updated review, I accidentally deleted photos I posted before which showed the hilarity/disappointment of our first visit but it's okay. We will still be back.

The $20 clam chowder bread bowl, what is this portion?

Assistance+ Balance- Cleanliness+ Deliciousness- Environment+ Full Review: Assistance+ service was great, greeted warmly, served promptly professionally and the server was kind. Balance- the portions were small especially for the price, I follow a Quality+Quantity/Price formula, the quality was mid, the quantity was small, and the price was high. $20 for a bread bowl of clam chowder, the bowl was smaller than most and filled less than half way? Fish and chips where it's a single piece of fish with a ton of thick fried batter, pancake thick, burned on one end. It doesn't make up for a lack of FISH. Cleanliness+ nothing special, it wasn't dirty but also not spotless, came right as they opened so kind of expected a little cleaner, but not a problem. Deliciousness- though the batter tasted sweet and was thick like a pancake the fish was old, greasy, and way fishier than the type of fish should have been, my stomach was cramping all night and the next day, assuming it was left out or too old to be served. The clam chowder had clam in it, canned I believe, didn't taste fresh, but it was heavily masked with ham, bacon, and a remarkable amount of dill, overpowering anything else. Environment+ beautiful place with great atmosphere, at the harbor, great theme and very cool bar.

Party of three and went in to celebrate a birthday. We ordered: 1 oyster shooter, 1 crispy oyster appetizer, 1 patty melt, 1 cheeseburger basket, and 1 fish & chips. She walked away and we had to call her back to order drinks. The oyster shooter came out quickly. It was huge! We also saw another guest with a whole crab. We then realized that there was a seasonal crab menu. Our server never told us about the special menu. I would have easily ordered the whole crab or seafood tower (I forget what it's called but it had scallops, crab, sirloin, etc.). Our meals came out, patty melt, cheeseburger, fish and chips, and crispy oyster appetizer. Wait...what? Why didn't the crispy oyster come out with the shooter? Oh...because our server gave us a meal instead of the appetizer since it had a pile of French fries with it and we were charged for it! Overall, the meals were good. Our daughter enjoyed her patty melt. My crispy oysters and fish and chips were OK, nothing to write home about. Also, the server did not ask how I wanted my fish and chips since the menu offers them deep fried or grilled. They came deep fried. Either way is fine with me but if there is an option, the server should know that and ask. After our meals, we ordered two slices of brown butter cake and instead were served two pieces of mile high chocolate cake. At this point, it was useless to complain to the unattentive server. Probably won't go back.

They open at 11am and we came before 11:30 and there was only 1 other couple seated. The waitress was very polite and friendly. We were seated quickly, given menus and water. One lady in our group can't eat gluten and has a few other allergies so she ask if she could eat the "soup of the day". Our waitress replied "I'm pretty sure". My friend asked if she was sure or pretty sure. She said she would check but never came back. Then the weird part happened. We had placed our orders, the other tables were now full, but nobody had food, except that one party that arrived before us. We assume there was some problem in the kitchen but she never came back to explain or apologize for the very long wait. Not to us, or anyone. When she eventually brought the food out, there was no apology or acknowledgement for the long wait. And she brought my friend a salad instead of the soup which she had inquired about. She did explain that she couldn't get an answer to her allergy question so she wanted to be safe. But wouldn't you tell the customer before just bringing the food? Anyway the food was all delicious!! I ordered the halibut sliders which were cooked perfectly. The "soup of the day" was okay but needed salt and pepper, which we requested. They brought us 2 pepper shakers, no salt. My wife had pasta bolognese which she loved. Her salad was bland. So overall the food was very good. The service was below par

My wife ordered the Agedashi Tofu & Pork Gyozas and I had a couple of rolls, the spicy Rouge and a plain Jane salmon, avocado and cucumber roll. Everything was fantastic. The fish was super fresh, the tofu cooked perfectly and the gyoza sauce tangy and yummy. We only had a couple of small issues, more personal preferences really. 1 - my wife enjoyed the tofu, but the dish is described as having an agedashi broth but really it was more of a thicker style sauce smeared on the plate the tofu was placed on. It didn't really have a true broth. 2 - the habanero marmalade was not spicy. The roll was described as a spicy roll, but the marmalade was sweet. Unfortunately, the jalapeños were sweet as well. I know they can't control capsaicin in peppers, but that marmalade needs way more habanero. It would be WONDRFUL on toast though! Note: looking at their menu now they have updated this roll to replace the marmalade with a "tangy sesame". I look forward to trying this to see the difference. If you want a wonderful coastal option that isn't fish & chips, give Pacific Sushi a try.

We were seated right away, arriving around 8pm on a Saturday night, with several other guests already seated. The lighting was low and decor was pleasing for a small town coastal sushi joint. The vibe is exactly what you expect from a awesome little Irish pub. Lots of beer artwork on the walls, cool little tree of life art, and the friendliest staff you'll ever find. The bartender Holly was the most friendly bartender I've had in I feel like a decade or more, and the bar back Josh was pretty awesome himself. He gave us some wonderful tips for some other places to eat at as we travel around the state, and all in all both of them gave us some pretty epic conversation. We almost never said at the bar, we decided to this time and I'm so glad that we did! The food was so so, nothing to really write home about but nothing really wrong either. It's bar food, you get what you expect when you go to an Irish pub. Taco Tuesday was well worth it, I'm a pescatarian so I had the fish taco and then tried their awesome potato taco and enjoyed the potato taco the most actually! I wouldn't pay what they normally charge for these tacos, they're pretty basic and the tortillas are not grilled nearly enough, but Taco Tuesday made three tacos only $10.50 and I could mix and match between all the different types so that was totally worth it! My wife tried the honey mustard chicken salad and unfortunately it did not live up to what she had hoped for. It was a really basic salad the veggies were fresh which was fortunate but it was basic, nothing was really seasoned, the honey mustard dressing didn't taste like mustard at all and the chicken was basic breaded chicken that tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. It was fresh, but still tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. All In all, the drinks and the bartender will definitely keep us coming back. Next time it'll just be for some drinks and some fries probably, but I definitely can't wait to try the steamer clams with jalapenos.
