We visited Superfly while in Brookings for a work trip because it was close to our hotel. We enjoyed the vibe, and the staff was very friendly. They make their own vodka and it's quite nice. Do yourself a favor and try any of the Superfly specials with it, they'll surprise you. They do have a food menu, but it's a martini bar first and restaurant second. The food was pretty decent, but the knife work, plating and ratios showed the experience behind the stove. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told I could order fish tacos even though it wasn't on the menu. I love a good grilled fish taco so I went for it. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned well, the green and orange sauces were good if a little too mild, and the tortillas were the right style but not grilled quite enough. Also, there was very little cilantro or onion and almost no cabbage so they weren't as filling as I would have liked. My wife had the Katsu Chicken Salad. It arrived plated like it was deconstructed: the katsu on a bed of lettuce greens with very thick slices of vegetables around around the plate and the dressing on the side. It was odd, clunky and the katsu was under seasoned. The peanut dressing was divine though, my wife said she could have drank that like milk. There are some other dishes I'd like to try and their drinks were fantastic so we'll definitely try them again. read more

Second time around will be my last... my kids got food after waiting half hour. About 20 mins ? Later we got ours.. after the kids were done eating.. wrong food came out and was comped 7? Bucks? Well... no specials told to us so we got something off the menu.. no refills on water had to get up ask. Had to get up and grab napkins then silverware then more water.. was hardly a good time. 130 bucks later and Taco Bell would have been a far better choice.. bartender had zero concern and so did the manager... As I own multiple business's myself I would be furious if I was the owner of this place... I'm so annoyed I'm typing while driving and I can't wait to have everyone see this poor review. read more

TERRIBLE. I honestly don't even know where to begin. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. When we walked in, we were told to sit wherever we wanted. We sat down and waited for almost 40 minutes without a single server acknowledging us. No menus, no silverware, no waters, nothing. We were completely ignored. Eventually, someone came over apologizing and took our drink orders. Somehow, they still brought the wrong drinks. My friends received theirs first while I had ordered nothing but a water, and I still had to wait several more minutes just to get that. When our food finally arrived, they only brought 2 out of the 3 meals. My friend had to sit there and watch us eat while waiting almost another 10 minutes for her food to come out. As if the service wasn't bad enough, we all asked for separate checks. Instead, they somehow charged my card for TWO different checks, leaving me to sort out a mistake that never should have happened. I've worked in customer service, so I understand restaurants get busy and mistakes happen. The food was good, but this wasn't one mistake--it was one problem after another from the moment we sat down until we paid. Being ignored for nearly 40 minutes, getting incorrect drinks, missing food, and then being OVERCHARGED is completely unacceptable. I definitely won't be returning, and I can't recommend this place to anyone. read more

We have been coming to the Superfly for more than a decade, and it used to be so good all around! Sadly, this place has gone downhill. The last handful of times we've been here have been progressively worse. The most recent visit was Sunday the 19th for brunch. The drinks were decent at best. (The martinis used to be better, but now they put sour mix in nearly everything on their drink menu, and if you asked for no sour, they short the drink) The food was okay, except we ordered a burger cooked medium (we verified pink), but it arrived well-done and dry. It showed PINK notated on our ticket, so the instructions were neglected. We also requested to order a deep-fried PB&J to go for the end of our meal, but they made it right away with our other food, and it sat under a heat lamp the entire time we were there. The wait staff was fairly inattentive/disconnected. When we got there, they took my mom's drink order and walked away without taking my drink order. When we received our food, we did not have any napkins or silverware to use. And then we never received the extra napkins we requested later during our meal. Very disappointing, and I'm sad to report that because this used to be one of my favorite places in Brookings. read more

Superfly is one of our favorites! Locally owned by a great family that really cares about your experience. I try something different each time and I haven't been disappointed. With family last weekend, we, of course, ordered the Obsidian Mussels (amazing), my sister ordered the Seared Pacific Yellowfin Tuna (she LOVED it) and I tried the Katsu Chicken Salad. Everything was great! The restaurant was busy, but clean. The patrons were all smiles, as well as all of the staff we encountered. We will continue to choose Superfly when in Brookings! read more

This saddens me to write this review, but this went from being one of my favorite places in Brookings to somewhere I doubt I'd eat again. I don't live here, but I have friends I visit here several times a year and we have come to Superfly on Sundays when I visit for a few years. We always looked forward to getting the deep fried PB&J, which is no longer on the menu. This was disappointing, but menus change and I won't hold this single thing against them. But the rest of our experience did not hold up to the standards we had all come to expect over the last few years. After being seated, and the order being taken, we waited longer than we ever had for our food to come. Itself not a big deal, maybe they were short staffed. However, we specifically asked for one item to come out like an appetizer and instead it came out with the rest of the food. Once all the food came, is where it went downhill. Everything was cold. The potatoes, the meat, everything. The twisted chicken and waffles was so cold it didn't melt the butter out on top of the waffle. It was also very dry and we had to ask twice for more syrup, and were brought hot honey instead (that wasn't actually spicy at all). The waffle would have been better if it was hot, but the chicken looked like a little once frozen cutlet that was heated up and slapped on the waffle. It was dry and tough. No flavor, difficult to cut with the knife, and also not fried like you'd expect chicken for chicken and waffles to be. Just a plan boneless skinless little cutlet. The bananas foster was a poor attempt at the classic dish. Really just deep friend French toast with a few slices of banana on top, which also came out cold and tasted like it had been fried in old oil. No one at our table expected perfection but of the four people at our table, no one wanted to eat it. And lastly we ordered the Monte Cristo sliders to share. Also came out cold, and was nothing like a Monte Cristo sliders. These were Hawaiian rolls with cheese and very dry cuts of ham. Towards the end of our time, the waitress who had been very friendly albeit a little inattentive, walked by and asked one of the three of us if we wanted a refill on coffee, but didn't seem to extend that to the rest of us who had gotten coffee. Not sure if it was intentional or not, but it was one more thing about the experience that didn't line up with our expectations after coming here for years. Not sure if they got new owners, or a new chef, or what happened, but everything about the experience was poor for all of us and none of us have a desire to return after years of patronage. read more

Not a big fan. We weren't able to get lunch, only brunch on Sundays until 1:30pm. Sad to say but it seems dirty to me. There was food and garbage on the dining room carpet and it actually smelled like dirty carpet. The flooring that was not carpeted, was sticky. We ended up going somewhere else. read more

I was very disappointed this afternoon, as some of wait staff behind the bar, were just not very welcoming or friendly. When we come to town, Superfly is a must. Very very disappointing visit. We arrived at noon on a Saturday. The waiter informed us they were changing over from brunch service. Every table was full and nobody had any food. Unfortunately we waited for 1/2 hour and our waiter informed us he was unable to take our order. We did not have the time to wait. We paid for our drinks and left. If this is the norm they should close to prep for dinner/lunch service. What a let down! Piss poor experience and perhaps our last. Very weird place. The ambiance is half family restaurant half night club. 90's music blasting. The menu is pretty small and they were out of two things we ordered (hummus appetizer and chicken strips kids meal). According to the server they weren't "sold out" these are just items they don't want to make that are still on the menu. Hmm. They don't have a burger kids item so we had to order the adult meal and have the kids split it with an extra side of fries. No big deal but we ordered it plain and there was still some kind of spicy mayo on the bun that my picky kid wouldn't eat. Everybody working seemed very frazzled. read more

Well, I don't normally write a bad review, but the owners of "SuperFly" need a wakeup call. Sat at the bar, about mid-section, with a partial view into the kitchen area. A dirty hand towel, a fork an a knife had dropped onto the floor, right in the aisle way, for over an hour that we sat there, every employee looked at them, stepped over them, bumped them, kicked them, But, not one bothered to pick them up!! The kitchen floor looked so discussing, we almost got up an left. You could tell by the way employees walked, the floor was slippery from grease an who knows what all else dropped or spilled on it? An not one employee wearing Non-slip shoes!!! (lawsuit?) The bartender was dressed like a poor homeless person, ripped torn, dirty jeans, that when she moved just right, you could see her underwear, fat mid-drift belly showing from under a top way too small for her size, with huge baggy sleeves, that dragged over the tops of every bottle in the well holder, (health dept?) every time she reached up, she had to adjust her arms so as not to catch the sleeves on something!!! If I was the owner/manager, she would have been told to go change, come back looking like a professional employee, not a homeless person off the streets!!! The way employees acts, dresses, reflects a lot about a restaurant, it's management an owner!!! read more

Well the pictures make it look much nicer than it is. It feels like it's in an old Taco Bell building however, they make the most of it. I'm giving it a 4 star because the service was awesome, the drinks were good and the food was good (not great). It's only one step up from a drive bar. I had the cod fish sandwich with fries. The cod seemed like a fish stick, not an actual fillet. The fries were soggy, not my fave. My husband loved his burger. All in all, worth the stop but wouldn't go back. read more

I had an enjoyable dining experience at Superfly. The food was good, the wait staff was helpful, and I really enjoyed the interior design. The lighting was great - I went during the day but I imagine the blue and orange color scheme really pops during the evening and night hours. Definitely the kind of place you could go on a first date. I ate the Alaskan cod fish sandwich, and the cod was tasty, crispy, and fluffy. It was served with fries, which were just the right amount of crispy without feeling dry. The sandwich as a whole was slightly blander than I would have liked, but I ate a good meal nonetheless. While the restaurant is clean, some attention should probably be paid to the bathroom, which was out of paper towels with an overflowing trash bin. Not a big fix, but one that I feel is worth mentioning. I would eat here again! I didn't drink any alcohol while here, so I'll have to give that a try whenever I'm back in the area. read more
